Make Me Wanna Lyrics

Windows down, country sound, FM on the radio
Just me and you and the man on the moon
Cruisin' down some old back road

Now baby don't you look at me that way
'Cause you know there's only so much I can take
'Cause you Make Me Wanna

Pull this truck to the side of the road
Slide on over, let me hold you close and tell
You everything I'm thinking
Hop on out and let the tailgate fall
Get drunk on you with no alcohol
If you don't stop I'm gonna
Girl you make me wanna

Yeah
Hm hm

You know better than to wear that dress
It oughta be against the law, yeah
Plain and simple, girl them dimples
Know just how to turn me on

Now baby don't you look at me that way
'Cause you know there's only so much I can take
'Cause you make me wanna

Pull this truck to the side of the road
Slide on over, let me hold you close and tell
You everything I'm thinking
Hop on out and let the tailgate fall
Get drunk on you with no alcohol
If you don't stop I'm gonna
Girl you make me wanna

You make me wanna
Wake up with you
In the bed of my truck and start
Over again when the sun comes up

You make me wanna
Pull this truck to the side of the road
Slide on over, let me hold you close and tell
You everything I'm thinking
Hop on out and let the tailgate fall
Get drunk on you with no alcohol
If you don't stop I'm gonna
You make me wanna

Pull this truck to the side of the road
Slide on over, let me hold you close and tell
You everything I'm thinking
Hop on out and let the tailgate fall
Get drunk on you with no alcohol
If you don't stop I'm gonna
Girl you make me wanna

Yeah

Make Me Wanna
  • Thomas Rhett told the story of this cut, which he penned with Jon Pardi producer Bart Butler and Ray Stevens' bass player Larry McCoy. "This song came out because I had just been listening to 'Stayin' Alive' by the Bee Gees," he explained, "and I went into a room with a few buddies. We wanted to write a song with country lyrics, but we wanted it to have the old '80s dance feel. That's kind of why this song has such a funky groove and is a great song to play live."
  • The song showcases an R&B side to Rhett. "I've got a lot of that in me," he told Billboard magazine. "I grew up listening to '(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay,' Aretha Franklin, Muddy Waters, and all the Rolling Stones stuff. I think that's where the soulful side of my voice comes from. It's not 100% bluesy, but I come from a lot of that. So to put out a song like this is really fun for me."

"It's just a song that makes you feel good," Rhett added. "You just want to crank the windows down and have a good time with it."
  • The video was directed by TK McKamy, who also helmed Rhett's "It Goes Like This" and" Get Me Some of That" clips. The visual was shot in Nashville and features the singer performing a number of dance moves, which didn't necessarily come naturally at first. "Making this video put me a little outside my comfort zone," Rhett said. "I wanted it to have a little swagger in a loose, fun way and reflect that sort of Bee Gees feel the song has. I've never claimed to be a dancer, but me and my band love to goof off on stage, especially to this song. I wanted the video to reflect that and let everyone know it's OK to shake your hips a little bit."
  • Billboard magazine chose this as their best country song of 2014. So what sets it apart? They said it was "the '70s R&B-influenced production that melds with Rhett's southern twang to make for a record that would make Otis Redding smile."
  • Rhett wrote this the day after he'd watched the movie Airplane. He recalled to Radio.com : "My grandma used to love watching that movie, and Grease, with me. When I'd go to her house, she'd always try to teach me all the dances they used to do in the '50s and '60s. And so I've always been intrigued by that period of music."

"So when 'Make Me Wanna' was written, it was written from that scene in Airplane when they are playing 'Staying Alive' by the Bee Gees," he continued. "I was like, 'I want to go write that melody with a country lyric,' and that's what we did."
  • Bart Butler told The Boot the story of the writing of the song: "Thomas was running late," he recalled. "He shows up, and he says, 'Guys, I'm sorry. But do you know who the Bee Gees are? I was watching the movie Airplane last night. You know that whole Saturday Night Live Fever thing?' I go, 'Yeah.' He said, 'I like that feel, the disco feel. I've got this little riff.'"

"Of course, Larry's sitting there, and [Rhett] started playing a chord," Butler continued. "He goes, 'Man, I can't figure out exactly how to finish this chord, but I hear [hums chorus melody].' Larry finished the chord with him, and they started working on that melody."

"All of a sudden, I said, 'What about "Make Me Wanna"?' I've got this title laying around, and we went from there," he added. "I think that whole energy that day was amazing because Thomas - he said the movie made him feel good, and he came in with a good idea, and boom."

"I think we knew we had something," Butler concluded. "But I think when I heard the official demo that they did, I knew we had a hit."

    In a Minute
  • Thomas Rhett penned this song with his father Rhett Atkins and Ashley Gorley. He explained: "I am a strong believer in God and this song, I feel, will speak to people because life is so short and unpredictable. You never know when you're going to leave this earth so I think you have to enjoy every minute. That is why I put this song on the record because just like 'Beer With Jesus,' it gives perspective to live and how it changes in a minute."
  • Both "In a Minute" and "It Goes Like This" are expressions that Thomas Rhett regularly uses.

    Don't Tread On Me Lyrics

    Don't Tread On Me
  • The motto "Don't Tread On Me" was very popular in colonial America. It is not known who originally coined the phrase, but it was paired up with the image of the American timber rattlesnake and printed on a famous flag commonly referred to as the "Gadsden Flag." Use of this flag and variations of it by American soldiers, sailors, and Marines grew fast and widespread during the American Revolution. There is a great historical significance and meaning to this flag and it is heavily linked to the Metallica song. The idea of the rattlesnake as a symbol of America was first thought of by Benjamin Franklin when he published the world's first ever political cartoon in 1754. It was a rattlesnake cut into several pieces and each part labeled a different colony. Under the snake it said "Join, or Die," encouraging colonial unity in standing up to the homeland monarchy ruling them from across the sea. Over the next two decades the rattlesnake, or more specifically the American timber rattlesnake of the northeastern states gained popularity (notice the rattlesnake on the cover of Metallica's Black Album).
  • The opening guitar riff (with triplets) is taken from the song "America" in the 1957 musical West Side Story.
  • In a 2001 interview for Playboy magazine, Hetfield rated this as not one of his favorites musically. The band never played it live.
  • This has been criticized for its jingoistic lyrics. At the time, the band's Danish drummer Lars Ulrich had to look up the word "jingoistic" in a dictionary, to see what it meant. He said: "It pissed me off!"

    Sorry For Partying
  • Rhett penned this drunken waltz with Barry Dean and Jimmy Robbins. He wrote it for all those people who get put down for wanting to have a good time. Rhett recalled: "I have never been carried out of a bar, but ironically after writing this song, I was hanging out in Rhode Island on a day off on the road when something crazy happened. I went into this old bar and it turned out it was one of the oldest bars in America. I hung out for while before the waitress told me they didn't get people 'like us' up in that bar and she handed us the check. I was confused about what she meant about 'people like us.' Oh well. Sorry for partying, Miss."

    The Things We'll Never Know
  • This song is about a guy who is reminiscing on his past relationship, presumedly with his girlfriend. He realizes the relationship would have never worked, but he regrets not making her stay: "Sorry that I couldn't make you stay." "Puddles in the rain" is an analogy of him falling apart after this relationship has ended.

  • This song features British rapper Dizzee Rascal and American Hip-Hop artist, Ty Dolla $ign. Speaking about the collaboration, with Capital FM, Tempah said: "It's very hard, it's very grimey. It's the complete opposite of what people would think we were gunning for. When I played the instrumental to Dizzee he was like, 'Thank god you didn't try and get me on something that you want to make a big hit'. It's very indie and underground and raw. I'm just taking it back to the basics."
  • Tinie told Q magazine that he's been listening to Dizzee Rascal since he was 12 and when it came to collaborating, he captured some of the pre-stardom Dizzee whose rhymes he adored as a kid. "I feel like I got the old Dizzee," he beamed. "Raw, spitting lyrics about whatever he felt like."

    Big Long Now Lyrics

    It's not cold enough
    Please put this side up
    She is moving through
Can we show our faces now?
    I'm not interesting
    She's not turning green
    Shameful as it seems
Can we show our faces now?

    Endless climb
    I am blind
    Why can't I leave?
    Color blind
    Speaking a phrase
    Instantly grown
    I am blind
    Waiting in line

    Why am I sure?

    Big Long Now
  • This song appears to be about an alien encounter. There's not much to go by, but some lines like "She's not turning green," "Why can't I hear" and "Instantly grow" lead many to think this song is about extraterrestrials.

According to Chad Channing, who was Nirvana's drummer when this song was written, Kurt Cobain didn't know what it was about either. Chad ended up supplying the title. He told us: "He (Cobain) goes, 'Well, I don't really have a title for it,' and so I just off the top of my head, 'big... long... now?' I was trying to think of something how the song felt. Because it was slow, heavy, and something that we were doing now. So I thought, 'big long now?' And once again, Kurt was like, 'Okay, let's do that.'"

Chad supplied the title for "About A Girl" in similar fashion. In our 2013 interview , he talks more about his time in Nirvana and how Cobain wrote songs.

Just got paid I got a little money
    Aftershave and after a honey
Got my name on a shot of Jack whiskey
Gonna roll with me, you gotta roll quickly

Get in, sit down, Shut Up And Hold On
Can't wait, too late, it's time to get gone
Show up downtown, get us a buzz on
Get in, sit down, shut up and hold on
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh, Oh oh oh oh oh oh)

Shoot a little pool, shoot a little 8 ball
    Ain't goin' home
    Make a little phone call
    Feelin' pretty good
    Stumble out the front door
She pulls up in a farm girl Ford singin'

Get in, sit down, shut up, and hold on
Can't wait, too late, it's time to get gone
Find us a dirt road get a groove on
Get in, sit down, shut up and hold on

There's no time like night time and the moonlight
    To have a good time
Baby let's throw down, don’t slow down
    If I'm gonna go down
    I'm gonna go down crazy
Get in, sit down, shut up and hold on
Can't wait, too late, it's time to get gone
Find us a dirt road and get a groove on
Get in, sit down, shut up and hold on
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh, Oh oh oh oh oh oh)

    Get in.
    Sit down.
    Shut up.
    Hold on!

There's no time than the night time
In the moonlight, to have a good time
Baby lets throw down, don’t slow down

    Shut Up And Hold On
  • Long term Keith collaborator Bobby Pinson helped the singer write this swamp-stomp opener from his Drinks After Work album. Keith recalled: "Bobby brought that to me and it was one of those songs. I didn't know if it was a single, but I knew it was kind of what we do live - it's fun and just feels like being in an amphitheater or at a festival."
  • This was one of the last tunes Keith cut for Drinks After Work, so he pushed it a bit and the song bloomed in the studio. He recalled: "We were messing around with the vocal and trying to get some different drum sounds. We got the groove where we wanted it and I started singing, but it was almost strange. It wasn't laying down quite like I had thought when we were writing. But when they sent me the mix I said, 'Wow, that thing really took off.' When people on the team heard it I started getting lots of text messages about how much they love it. It sort of rose from the ashes."

Great Romances Of The 20th Century Lyrics

    September never stays this cold
    Where I come from
    And you know
    I'm not one for complaining,
But I love the way you'd roll
Excuses off the tip of your tongue
As I slowly fall apart (slowly, quietly, slowly)
    Fall apart

This won't mean a thing come tomorrow
And that's exactly how I'll make it seem
    Cause I'm still not sleeping,
Thinking I've crawled home from worse than this

    So please, please (please)
I'm running out of sympathy (I'm running out of sympathy!)
And I never said I'd take this
I never said I'd take this lying down

    She says
"Come on, come on, let's just get this over with [Repeat x2]
(I never said I'd take this lying down, let's just get this over with,
And I've crawled home from worse than this)
    She says
"Come on, come on, let's just get this over with
    She says
    "Come on, come on"

You always come close but this never comes easy,
I still know everything [Repeat x3]
    You always come so close
I still know everything, I still know everything, I still know

You always come close but this never comes easy [Repeat x2]
You always come, you come in close

I never said I'd take this lying down [Repeat x3]
But I've crawled home from worse than this

If it's not keeping you up nights
Then what's the point [Repeat x4]

    I'm in your room
Now is this turning you on
    Am I turning you on?

    I'm in your room
    Are you turned on?

I'm on the corner of your bed,
    I'm practically naked,
    Are you turned on,
    Are you turned on?

  • Toby Keith penned this R&B-tinged cut with Scotty Emerick. Keith commented: "That's a tongue-in-cheek stab with a great line: 'Would you like to just go and talk, or is never still a good time to call?' I don't know, probably pushing it a little too far as usual. It's a little more kiss-off than it is goodbye, but it's comical. It's got a great groove. I really, really like that song."
