Master of Savagery Lyrics

Disciple gods of cyanide
Bewailing my final demise
Forever engraved within
Enslaved by my apathy

Master of Savagery
Master...savage

Master of savagery
Master...savage

Dethroned the master, cut his head
The veil of trust is shattered
Forcing social regression
The swallow's ostentation

Master of savagery
Master...savage

Master of savagery
Master...savage

New age dogma darkened forms
In this hell beneath, I rot

Master of savagery
Master...savage

Master of savagery
Master...savage

Certain is suffering
Morbid premonition
Obliterate ourselves
Toxic death corrosion

Master of Savagery
  • Soulfly lead singer Max Cavalera has written thousands of guitar riffs, but he says this is one of his favorites. "I really like the groove of the song," he told us . "It's very similar to older Soulfly stuff, like Prophecy, Dark Ages, Soulfly I. It's a really catchy, heavy groove."
  • This is a track from Savages, the ninth studio album by the Brazilian Metal group. The record was the first to feature drummer Zyon Cavalera, frontman Max's son, in a full-time capacity after the departure of David Kinkade in 2012. Said Max: "I worked for the first time on a full album with my son, Zyon. Before recording the album I first worked closely at home with him in preproduction, and it was great to spend weeks on the songs with Zyon, shaping the sound of the record. Zyon did a great job and he hits really hard just like his uncle Igor."

"It was amazing recording with my son," he added. A whole record! A dream come true for a father whose life is dedicated to metal. 'Savages' is a celebration of all that."
  • About three minutes into this song, it breaks down to just the bass, then gets - as Max Cavalera says - "super heavy." Max had to refuse/resist the temptation to add vocals. "I was tempted to sing on top of it," he said in our interview. "I even tried once. Then I was like, 'No, let's leave it open, just let the music take control and be just this cool, heavy part on the song.'"
  • The cover artwork for Savages was created by renowned artist Paul Stottler, who is best known for his work on Sacred Reich's legendary Surf Nicaragua cover.
  • Max Cavalera explained to Metal Exiles the journey he wanted to take his listeners on the album. "The idea of Savages was that with all of our progress and technology we are all still killing each other, decapitating, blowing up marathons, doing all of these savage acts so at heart we are all still Savages," he said. "A lot of the lyrics are based around that theme even though this is not a concept record. It is almost like there is something wrong with us, like we are born with Savagery in us and we cannot get rid of it."

Feel Good Hit Of The Summer
  • The lyrics are a list of drugs: Nicotine, valium, vicodinmarijuana, ecstasy, and alcohol. Before they get to cocaine, they do utter the word "no."
  • Judas Priest lead singer Rob Halford was recording in a studio nearby, and the band asked him to sing backup on this, which he did. When they showed Halford the lyrics, he said, "A Rock And Roll cocktail, I know this one."
  • Although this contains no foul language, some radio stations refused to play it and Wal-Mart banned it for a while. They eventually agreed to stock the album without a warning label, since it was already called "Rated R."
  • In 2007, QOTSA was forcefully removed from a rehab center in California for playing this song. They were going to play a light-hearted show for the patients there, but Josh Homme and his twisted sense of humor decided to open their set with this song, and they were immediately unplugged.
  • Josh Homme told NME July 24, "All of our records have some loose theme that's put a rope around all the songs and drawn them in tight… Rated R is about paranoia and about paranoia that someone's putting you in a box forever and trying to escape getting out of their box.
'You're free to do what you want as long as you do it in here' - and that is the frustration that your voice means nothing."
  • Josh Homme recalled to Mojo magazine September 2010: "Nick (Oliveri) and I had gone out to Joshua Tree just before New Years, 2000, and stayed at a place called 29 Palms Inn. Out of that came Feel Good Hit Of The Summer and Quick And To The Pointless. Feel Good Hit was such a great way to start that record. It said, 'Look out, here we come.'"
  • Homme discussed the experimental elements of Rated R with Mojo:"I used to make mix tapes for my girlfriends and friends - Can next to Bjork and Slayer and Hasil Adkins - and I wanted my own record to be like the mix tapes I was making. On Rated R I wanted to play a love song and a paranoid song and an art song and a heavy song - all on one record. There's this unseeable force wants you to conform, and I was fighting that. We'd try anything we thought was 'wrong'. We'd experiment on anything. On ourselves too. We got ourselves in an otherworldly state."
  • Both Kerrang and NME made Rated R #1 in their Top Albums of 2000 list. The record also came #2 in Mojo's list.

    Torus
  • This is the title track of Sub Focus (aka Nick Douwma)'s second album. It's the only song on the set that he penned on his own. He explained to MusicRadar.com : "This began as an intro for the new live show I launched in 2012. I wanted a brand new track to start the show off, and thankfully it worked well and I've used it as an intro ever since."

"The beginning of the song samples the Halt tape," Douma continued, "which is a famous audio recording of a UFO sighting. It's an incredible recording, and the guy has got a real sense of wonder in his voice. I remember years ago, I think it was Photek who used it in a tune - I was inspired to use it as if someone had spotted the Torus disc. It just fit the track name and the concept so well."
  • The word Torus is used in geometry to describe a ring shaped surface formed by the revolution of a circle around an axis that does not intersect the circle.

    Vermilion Lyrics

She seems dressed in all the rings
    Of past fatalaties
    So fragile yet so devious
    She continues to see it
    Climatic hands that press
    Her temples and my chest
Enter the night that she came home
    Forever

Oh (she's the only one that makes me sad)

    She is everything and more
    The solemn hypnotic
    My dahlia, bathed in possession
    She is home to me

I get neverous, perversed when I see her it's worse
    But the stress is astounding
It's now or never she's coming home
    Forever

Oh (she's the only one that makes me sad)

Hard to say what caught my attention
    Vixen crazy, aphid attraction
Carve my name in my face, to recognize
Such a pheromone cult to terrorize

I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me

    (Yeah!)

    I'm a slave, and I am a master
    No restraints and, unchecked collectors
I exist through my need, to self-oblige
She is something in me, that I despise

I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me

    Falling Down
  • This was released as the first single from British electronic musician Sub Focus' second studio album Torus. It was made available on December 14, 2011, as a free digital download through RAM Records and Mercury Records. The track was re-released half a year later as an EP alongside remixes from Nick Thayer, xKore and Sub Focus himself.
  • The song features soulful vocals from Boston-born and London-raised singer-songwriter Kenzie May.
  • Sub Focus told the story of the song to MusicRadar.com : "This tune began with the synth chords in the breakdown. This was originally something that I wrote for the track that I did with Chase & Status on their last album called 'Flashing Lights.' I really loved the part, but we decided that it didn't fit, so it was left over. This tune stemmed from there."

    Moonlight Feels Right Lyrics

The wind blew some luck in my direction
I caught it in my hands today
I finally made a tricky French connection
You winked and gave me your o.k.
I'll take you on a trip beside the ocean
And drop the top at Chesapeake Bay
Ain't nothing like the sky to dose a potion
The moon'll send you on your way

    Moonlight Feels Right
    Moonlight feels right

We'll lay back and observe the constellations
And watch the moon smilin' bright
I'll play the radio on southern stations
Cause southern belles are hell at night
You say you came to Baltimore from Ole Miss
Class of seven four gold ring
The eastern moon looks ready for a wet kiss
To make the tide rise again

We'll see the sun come up on Sunday morning
And watch it fade the moon away
I guess you know I'm giving you a warning
Cause me and moon are itching to play
I'll take you on a trip beside the ocean
And drop the top at Chesapeake Bay

    Chicks, Trucks, and Beer Lyrics

    Map dots, parking lots
    Honky-tonks, fields, and back roads
They come alive on Friday nights
Don't shut down 'til that rooster crows

It's just some rural route rockin'
I don't ever see it stopping
Got them good old boys hoppin' oh yeah
    And they're spending every dollar
Make 'em hoop, and make 'em holler, woo hoo
It's how we do it up in here
    Chicks, Trucks, and Beer

    Tan lines, straight pipes
    Longneck bottles iced down
    That's all you need
That's the recipe to do it up big in a little town

It's just some rural route rockin'
I don't ever see it stopping
Got them good old boys hoppin' oh yeah
    And they're spending every dollar
Make 'em hoop, and make 'em holler, woo hoo
It's how we do it up in here
    Chicks, trucks, and beer

Colt ford, tell 'em how we roll
    Short skirts, chrome, and dirt
    Long legs, pony kegs
    Loving on a tailgate
    Friday night, I can't wait

It's just some rural route rockin'
I don't ever see it stopping
Got them good old boys hoppin' oh yeah
    And they're spending every dollar
Make 'em hoop, and make 'em holler, woo hoo
It's how we do it up in here
    Chicks, trucks, and beer
    Chicks, trucks, and beer

If you get the chicks, then you got the trucks
And you got beer, then you got others
You can't have fear son, if you want speed
Now where we come from this is all we need
    Them chicks, trucks, and beer
It's how we do around here every night
    Chicks , trucks and beer
We keep it country, but we keep it real tight
    Chicks, trucks, and beer
    That's all we know
    Chicks, trucks, and beer
Come on, Farr, let's take it down the dirt road

The Importance Of Being Idle Lyrics

I sold my soul for the second time, 'cause the man don't pay me.
I begged my landlord for some more time, he said "Son, the bill's waiting."
My best friend called me the other night, he said, "Man, are you crazy?"
My girlfriend told me to get a life, she said, "Boy, you lazy."

But I don't mind, as long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine.
I'll be fine - if you give me a minute, a man's got a limit.
I can't get a life if my heart's not in it.

    [Solo]

I don't mind, as long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine.
I'll be fine - if you give me a minute, a man's got a limit.
I can't get a life if my heart's not in it.

I lost my faith in the summertime, 'cause it don't stop raining.
The sky all day is black as night, but I know I can't blame me.
I begged my Doctor for one more line, he said "Son, words fail me!"
There ain't no place to be killing time, I guess I'm just lazy.

I don't mind, as long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine.
I'll be fine - if you give me a minute, a man's got a limit.
I can't get a life if my heart's not in it.

    The Importance Of Being Idle
  • Noel Gallagher (Q magazine, May 2005): "A cross between The Kinks and The La's. About being a lazy so and so. I spent a lot of last summer just sitting around the house doing nothing, really impressed by my lack of drive."
  • The band doesn't appear in the video. It features the Welsh actor Rhys Ifans and a group of dancing undertakers lip-synching to the track. Rhys Ifans was for a short while the lead singer of Welsh band Super Furry Animals before they achieved chart success. He has been in the movies Notting Hill (1999), Little Nicky (2000) and Vanity Fare (2004).
  • The was Oasis' second consecutive #1 single in the UK, after "Lyla." It was the second time they had back to back #1 hits, but the first time in the same calendar year. "All Around The World" and "Go Let It Out" followed each other in the late '90s but had a gap of 2 years between them.
  • This is only the second time that an Oasis single with Noel rather than Liam on lead vocals has topped the UK charts, his first being "Don't Look Back In Anger" back in 1996.
  • This was Oasis' 19th straight Top 10 UK hit, beating a long standing record for a group that was previously held jointly by The Beatles and ABBA. The all-time record is held by Madonna, with a total of 34 in a row between 1984 and 1995.
  • The video was shot on Caradoc Street, East Greenwich, London. The band appears for about 5 seconds: Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Zak Starkey are playing cards on a coffin while Liam is sitting by a desk and Noel is shaving.
  • Some of the second verse, with the reference to begging his doctor for "One more line," seems to be referring to an actual event as this resembles Noel's account of how he gave up cocaine in 1998.

I don't think I should be here, but maybe we can make it through the night
I don't know what I'm feeling, maybe that it's better somewhere else
Somewhere where my mind turns off and my heart becomes the guide
And maybe my guard is down but I don't seem to mind, oh

But I'm Damaged from the man that I was yesterday
Yeah, it's the damage from the life that in turn used to shadow me
And now it's over and done

You make me think I'm feeling, but you know I'm just a vulture on your heart
And I don't want to be this, I'm sorry I misled you from the start
To somewhere I've never been and I could never be
So maybe my time is up and I should let it be, oh

But I'm damaged from the man that I was yesterday
I guess I'm damaged from the breath that I won't led me astray
And now it's over and done

Yeah, I'm damaged from the man that I was yesterday
I guess I'm damaged from the breath that I won't led me astray
I guess I'm damaged from the chances I made yesterday

  • The Winery Dogs are a Rock trio formed in New York City in 2012 by former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portney , Mr. Big bassist Billy Sheehan and ex-Poison guitarist/singer Richie Kotzen. This is a track from their eponymous debut album. Portnoy said regarding the songwriting process for The Winery Dogs set: "In all cases, the music was the very first element and from there, Richie would start melodies on top of it. Sometimes the final lyrics were there, coming up on the spot, and other times he would take the melodies and write lyrics later. There were a couple of examples of Richie having something and bringing it in. In those cases, like 'Damaged' and 'Regret', we just left them. Because in those two particular cases, the songs were great as they were."

    Means the murder of self.

  • "Ruin" is the opening track to Lamb of God's As The Palaces Burn album, which the band produced with Devin Townsend .

The song is very dark, calling forth what leads to "the art of ruin." The band's lyricists, Mark Morton and Randy Blythe , often express the shadowy side of their personalities in their songs, which suits their genre. They point out, however, that they are not a miserable bunch; it's just that happy songs aren't very metal.
  • Dan Rush directed the music video, which shows the band performing the song in what appears to be a Mexican church.

    Factory Girl
  • This song is a great example of Mick Jagger taking on a persona, which he often did in his lyrics. Here, he sings from the perspective of a guy who is waiting for his girlfriend - a destitute, disheveled sort - to get out of work at the factory. It's quite a contrast to Jagger's reality: a glamorous Rock star who often dated models.
  • Dave Mason, who did some session work for Jimi Hendrix and was a member of the band Traffic, played the mandolin on this song.
  • Ric Grech was brought in to play fiddle on this track. Grech was a violinist and bass player who was a member of the band Family in the '60s and went on to play in Blind Faith with Eric Clapton. He also played on Gram Parsons' solo albums in the '70s, and he appears on Ron Wood and Ronnie Lane's 1976 Mahoney's Last Stand project.

  • Guitarist Keith Richards: "To me 'Factory Girl' felt something like Molly Malone, an Irish jig; one of those ancient Celtic things that emerge from time to time, or an Appalachian song. In those days I would just come up and play something, sitting around the room. I still do that today."
