In The Flesh? Lyrics

So ya
Thought ya
Might like to go to the show
To feel the warm thrill of confusion
That space cadet glow
Tell me is something eluding you, sunshine?
Is this not what you expected to see?
If you want to find out what's behind these cold eyes
You'll just have to claw your way through this disguise

Lights, turn on the sound effects, action
Drop it, drop it on 'em, drop it on them

In The Flesh?
  • This is the first song of the album, and the first part of this song is music from the last song of the album, "Outside the Wall." At the end of that song, a man says "Isn't this where..." and and in the beginning of "In the Flesh" he says "...we came in?" This was one manifestation of Roger Waters' fascination with cycles.
  • There is another song named "In the Flesh" on the album, which has the same tune but relatively different lyrics. The first song concerns the protagonist Pink's birth, while the latter concerns Pink becoming a Nazi dictator after he suffers a schizophrenic break.

    Rock N Roll Lyrics

Let 'em know that we're still Rock N Roll

    I don't care about my make-up
I like it better with my jeans all ripped up
Don't know how to keep my mouth shut
    You say, "So what?" (What)

    I don't care if I'm a misfit
I like it better than the hipster bullshit
    I am the motherfuckin' princess
    You still love it

Some some how, it's a little different when, I'm with you
You know what I really am, all about
You know how it really goes, oh oh oh oh yeah
    Some some way,
We'll be getting out of this, town one day
You're the only one that I, want with me
You know how the story goes, oh oh oh

    When it's you and me
We don't need no one to tell us who to be
We'll keep turning up the radio
    What if you and I
Just put up, a middle finger to the sky
Let them know that we're still rock 'n roll

Rock 'n roll, hey hey hey
Rock 'n roll, hey hey hey

Call it a bad attitude dude
I'm never gonna to cover up that tattoo
I might have a couple issues
    You say, "Me too" (yeah)
    Don't care about a reputation
Must be living in the wrong generation
    This is your invitation
    Let's get wasted

Some some how, it's a little different when, I'm with you
You know what I really am, all about
You know how the story goes, oh oh oh

    When it's you and me
We don't need no one to tell us who to be
We'll keep turning up the radio
    What if you and I
Just put up a middle finger to the sky
Let them know that we're still rock 'n roll

Rock 'n roll, hey hey hey
Rock 'n roll, hey hey hey (Rock 'n roll)

    (Yeah)
    (Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah)
    (Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah)

    When it's you and me
We don't need no one to tell us who to be
We'll keep turning up the radio

    Rock N Roll
  • This upbeat pop-punk song is a boisterous declaration of rebellion on which Lavigne sings of putting up her "middle finger to the sky" to "let 'em know that we're still rock and roll." The tune was the second cut to be lifted from the Canadian singer's eponymous fifth studio album.
  • The track was produced by Max Martin (Britney Spears, Katy Perry) and co-written by Lavigne with her husband Chad Kroeger, Dr. Luke protégé Jacob Kasher, David Hodges from Evanescence, and Peter Svensson from The Cardigans.
  • The song's music video was directed by Chris Marrs Piliero (Britney Spears, Kesha) and shot on July 21, 2013. The comic book-style clip, which was was inspired by the 1995 cult film Tank Girl, finds Lavigne battling a bearshark as well as engaging in a post-car crash kiss with Danica McKellar. The actress turned New York Times bestselling author and mathematician is best known for playing Winnie, the girl fancied by Kevin Arnold on the late-'80s coming-of-age sitcom The Wonder Years. The visual also features Sid Wilson from the band Slipknot, whilst Titanic actor Billy Zane shows up in the finale sequence on a Segway. Lavigne described the clip to Billboard magazine as "a post-apocalyptic comic book adventure." She added: "I didn't want to just make a standard music video. I wanted to step it up."
  • At the beginning of the video, Avril harkens back to her 2002 song "Sk8er Boi" when she tells a caller, "How much more obvious can I make it - he was a boy, she was a girl."

Every Picture Tells A Story Lyrics

Spent time feelin' inferior standing' in front of my mirror
Combed my hair in a thousand ways, but I came out lookin' just the same
Daddy said, son, you better see the world
I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to leave
But remember one thing, don't lose your head to a woman that'll spend your bread
    So I got out

Paris was a place you could hide away, if you felt you didn't fit in
French police wouldn't give me no peace, they claimed I was a nasty person
Down along the left bank, minding my own
Was knocked down by a human stampede
Got arrested for inciting a peaceful riot, when all I wanted was a cup of tea
    I was accused

    I moved on
Down in rome I wasn't getting enough
Of the things that keep a young man alive
My body stunk, but I kept my funk at a time when I was right out of luck
Getting desperate, indeed I was looking like a tourist attraction
Oh, my dear, I better get out of here for the vatican don't give no sanction
I wasn't ready for that, no, no

I moved right out east, yeah
On the peking ferry I was feeling merry, sailing on my way back here
I fell in love with a slant-eyed lady by the light of an eastern moon
Shanghai lil never used the pill, she claimed that it just ain't natural
She took me up on deck and bit my neck
Oh, people, I was glad I found her
Oh, yeah, I was glad I found here

I firmly believed that I didn't need anyone but me
I sincerely thought I was so complete
Look how wrong you can be
The women I've known I wouldn't let tie my shoe
They wouldn't give you the time of day
But the slant-eyed lady knocked me off my feet
God, I was glad I found her

And if they had the words I could tell to you
To help you on your way down the road
I couldn't quote you no dickens, shelley or keats
'Cause it's all been said before
Make the best out of the bad, just laugh it off
You didn't have to come here anyway, so remember

    Every Picture Tells A Story
  • This song recounts a series of misadventures endured by Stewart's globetrotting protagonist, culminating with his torrid romance with a "slit-eyed lady." (Political correctness has never exactly been Rod Stewart's calling card).

In the May 1995 issue of Mojo, Stewart said of the song: "I can remember the build up. You know what the song's about - your early teenage life when you're leaving home and you're exploring the world for yourself. Ronnie (Wood) and I rehearsed round my house at Muswell Hill and recorded it the next day. That whole album was done in 10 days, two weeks, about as long as it takes to get a drum sound right nowadays."
  • The song's title doesn't appear in the lyrics until the end... where it is repeated 24 times! ("Every picture tells a story, don't it?")

    You Think You Know Lyrics

    Come on!

Don't hang me, on another problem
I really don't give a fuck if you believe me
I can see that you were not the one to confide in
I cannot abide by you anymore
Can you shut, down the funky vibe and (get)
The fuck up, yeah, better believe me.
    You aren't heard anymore
You weren't able to silence, resorted to violence
    I've seen it before
Now get your ass out the door
    Won't take shit anymore

You Think You Know, but you're horribly blind
You think you know how this story's defined
You think you know that your heart has gone cold inside
    Fine

Get off me, you don't know where I've been
I'm all fucked up, better believe me
I didn't care anymore, I opened up the device and
I gave into vice with you, little whore
God damn this, no one could believe that
I am this monster you believe in
    There's nothing left anymore
You were the one who decided, our souls were divided
I've heard it before, won't take shit anymore

You think you know, but you're horribly blind
You think you know how this story's defined
You think you know that your heart has gone cold inside
    Fine
You think you know, but it's all in your mind
You think you know just whose fate has been signed
You think you know just whose heart has gone cold this time
    Mine

    Well you can blame yourself
And you just might be right
    For there is nothing left
Do you think its time to say goodbye?

You think you know, but you're horribly blind
You think you know how this story's defined
You think you know that your heart has gone cold inside
    Fine
You think you know, but it's all in your mind

    You Think You Know
  • Device is a group that David Draiman put together after Disturbed announced their hiatus. The second single from the Industrial Metal band's eponymous debut album serves as a two-sided statement. Draiman explained in a video interview: "One, it's giving people a heads-up as to what their impressions might have been of what this body of work or this project would be, and kind of giving them an awareness that it is something entirely unique and different in its own right. But from a pure lyrical inspiration it came from a hundred relationships that I've been in in the past, situations where your significant other or your partner in the relationship has their own unique perception of reality."

How Do You Get That Lonely Lyrics

It was just another story written on the second page
    Underneath the Tiger's football score
It said he was only eighteen, a boy about my age
They found him face down on his bedroom floor
There'll be services on Friday at the Lawrence Funeral Home
Then out on Mooresville highway, they'll lay him 'neath a stone...
How Do You Get That Lonely, how do you hurt that bad
To make you make the call, that havin' no life at all
Is better than the life that you had
How do you feel so empty, you want to let it all go
How do you get that lonely... and nobody know
Did his girlfriend break up with him, did he buy or steal that gun?
Did he lose a fight with drugs or alcohol?
Did his Mom and Daddy forget to say I love you son?
Did no one see the writing on the wall?
I'm not blamin' anybody, we all do the best we can
    I know hindsight's 20/20, but I still don't understand...
How do you get that lonely, how do you hurt that bad
To make you make the call, that havin' no life at all
Is better than the life that you had
How do you feel so empty, you want to let it all go
How do you get that lonely... and nobody know
It was just another story printed on the second page
    Underneath the Tiger's football score...

How Do You Get That Lonely
  • This song was written by Rory Lee Feek and Jamie Teachener after Rory got a call from his daughter's school. They told Rory his daughter wanted to come home because her friend's boyfriend killed himself, and they found the body that morning.
  • A few years after this song was released, Rory started recording with his wife as Joey + Rory. They recorded "Album Number Two," which Rory wrote for Larsen, but was rejected. Another one Rory wrote that Larsen turned down was "A Little More Country Than That," which Easton Corbin recorded in 2009.

I Just Want to Dance With You Lyrics

I don't want to be the kind to hesitate
Be too shy, wait to late
I don't care what they say other lovers do
I Just Want to Dance With You

I got a feeling that you have a heart like mine
So, let it show, let it shine
If we have a chance to make one heart of two
I just want to dance with you

    [Chorus]
I want to dance with you
Twirl you all around the floor
That's what they intended dancing for
I just want to dance with you
I want to dance with you
Hold you in my arms once more
That's what they invented dancing for
I just want to dance with you

I caught you looking at me when I looked at you
Yes, I did; ain't that true?
You won't get embarrassed by the things I do
I just want to dance with you

Oh, the boys are playing softly, and the girls are too
So am I, and so are you
If this was a movie, we'd be right on cue
I just want to dance with you

    [Chorus]

I want to dance with you
Twirl you all around the floor
That's what they invented dancing for
I just want to dance with you

I want to dance with you
Hold you in my arms once more
That's what they intended dancing for

I Just Want to Dance With You
  • This John Prine and Roger Cook penned cut was originally recorded by Prine for his 1986 album German Afternoons. Strait covered the tune in April 1998 for the lead-off single to his album, One Step at a Time. The song became his 34th country #1.
  • Asked by Billboard magazine why he recorded the song, Strait replied: "I felt it had such a great laid-back melody and groove, if you will, and I also loved the lyrics. Especially the line 'That's what they intended dancing for.' I think I changed it to 'That's what they invented dancing for,' but ended up saying both in the song. It's little things like that-little things that are so simple, but yet so clever-that really make a song."
  • This was also a hit for Daniel O'Donnell in 1992, reaching #20 in the UK single charts.

Ooh ooh ooh ooh - ooh take my breath away - ooh
    Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh You Take My Breath Away

Look into my eyes and you'll see
    I'm the only one
    You've captured my love
    Stolen my heart
    Changed my life
Every time you make a move
    You destroy my mind
    And the way you touch
I lose control and shiver deep inside
    You take my breath away

You can reduce me to tears
    With a single sigh
    (Please don't cry anymore)
    Every breath that you take
    Any sound that you make
Is a whisper in my ear
I could give up all my life for just one kiss
    I would surely die
If you dismiss me from your love
    You take my breath away

    So please don't go
Don't leave me here all by myself
I get ever so lonely from time to time
    I will find you
Anywhere you go, I'll be right behind you
Right until the ends of the Earth
I'll get no sleep till I find you to tell you
That you just take my breath away

    I will find you
    Anywhere you go
Right until the ends of the Earth
I'll get no sleep till I find you to
Tell you when I've found you -
    I love you

Take my breath, take my breath

    You Take My Breath Away
  • This song was written by Freddie Mercury and is based on the Japanese pentatonic scale. According to Brian May, Japan was a big influence on Queen, as we can hear through songs like "Teo Torriatte" from the same album.
  • This song is probably about Freddie Mercury's female lover Mary Austin, whom he lived with for 6 years and remained friends with until his death. Austin and Mercury split up in 1980 when Mercury decided he preferred male partners. Upon his death in 1991, Mercury left Austin his house in London.
  • Freddie Mercury in an interview on Capital Radio: "This one I did myself, I multi tracked myself. So the others weren't used on this for the voices. I played piano and basically, I don't know how we managed to stay this simple you know, with all our over dubs and things. People seem to think that we're over complexed, and it's not true. It depends on the individual track really, if it needs it - we do it. So this is pretty sparse actually by Queen and our standards."

    The Dreams Of Children Lyrics

I sat alone with The Dreams Of Children
Weeping willows and tall dark building,
I've caught a fashion from the dreams of children
But woke up sweating from this modern nightmare, and
I was alone, no one was there
I was alone, no one was there
I caught a glimpse from the dreams of children
I got a feeling of optimism
But woke up to a grey and lonely picture
The streets below left me feeling dirty, and
I was alone, no one was there
I was alone, no one was there
Something's gonna crack on your dreams tonight...
You will crack on your dreams tonight
I fell in love with the dreams of children
I saw a vision of all the happy days
I've caught a fashion from the dreams of children
But woke up sweating from this modern nightmare, and
I was alone, no one was there
I was alone, no one was there
Something's gonna crack on your dreams tonight...
You will crack on your dreams tonight
You will choke on your dreams tonight

    The Dreams Of Children
  • The title was inspired by English writer Clive Barker's horror story The Forbidden, where The Candyman kills to preserve his reputation, so he can haunt "The Dreams Of Children." The book was adapted into a movie in 1992.
  • This song has a psychadelic Beatles-like interesting backwards intro. Prior to writing the song Paul Weller had been listening to his favourite album, The Beatles Revolver. Weller recalls in the book 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh, "After we'd finished recording the album Setting Sons, I asked the engineer if he could record the album backwards and put it on cassette. When I listened to it there was one piece of vocal that I really liked and wrote "The Dreams Of Children" around it."
  • This was released as a double A-side single along with "Going Underground." So many people pre-ordered the single that it entered the UK charts at #1. The previous time this had occurred was Slade's "Merry Christmas Everybody" in 1974.

Now I'm bound, empty and hollow

I took the pills, I've been consumed
I drank the water, I had to choose
I'm still here with a fire burning, burning inside
If you want to burn, light it up, light up, let it rise

When you're high who ya flying for
When you ride who ya riding for
When you toast who ya drinking for
When you play, gotta deal with the devil

    Gotta deal with the devil
    Gotta deal with the devil
    Gotta deal with the devil

    Let it rise

When you're high who ya flying for
When you ride who ya riding for
When you toast who ya drinking for
When you play, gotta deal with the devil

    Gotta deal with the devil
    Gotta deal with the devil
    Gotta deal with the devil
    Gotta deal with the devil
    Gotta deal with the devil
    Gotta deal with the devil
    Gotta deal with the devil

    Deal With The Devil
  • This was released as the second single from Pop Evil's third album, Onyx. It acted as the follow-up to their first #1 on the active rock radio chart, "Trenches."
  • Drummer Chachi Riot said about the song: "Life can be wonderful, but life can also be extremely merciless. How do we deal with these hard times? Who do we have to deal with? Our decisions have consequences."
  • The song's music video is part two of a three part video trilogy that revolves around addiction and abuse. It goes in reverse order, with "Trenches" being the final installment and the opening part featuring the song "Behind Closed Doors."

Directed by Johan Carlén, the trilogy follows a woman going through a transformation. In the "Deal With The Devil" clip, she shoots up heroin and is confronted by demons.

    Hate For The Weak
  • This song talks about people who walk around with an attitude, but when you ask them to back up that "Hard" attitude they just back down. They can talk the talk, but they cant walk the walk!

    Boom Boom (Heartbeat) Lyrics

    Another night another day
I'm moving love in every beat that's played
    Suddenly I'm out of place
    Distracted by an unfamiliar face
    You say come on over
    Let me take control
Of you and of what we do
Confused I make every word you say
Confused you got a ride inside my head

I've been poisoned by your eyes tonight
My pulse on overload I've gotta try
I can speak or think I want you as mine
You made my heart beat in and out of time

    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom

Surrounding our hand on my face
I like your subtle touch and your slow pace
Sound of you with sound of me
This perfect loss is happening naturally

You say let me hold you
    Let me take control
Of you and of what we do
I can feel your energy inside of me
    Electricity explodes from out bodies

I've been poisoned by your eyes tonight
My pulse on overload I've gotta try
I can speak or think I want you as mine
You made my heart beat in and out of time

    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom

I've been poisoned by your eyes tonight
My pulse on overload I've gotta try
I can speak or think I want you as mine
You made my heart beat in and out of time
You made my heart beat in and out of time
You made my heart beat in and out of time
I've been poisoned by your eyes tonight
My pulse on overload I've gotta try
I can speak or think I want you as mine
You made my heart beat in and out of time

    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom
    Boom boom boom boom

    You made my heart beat
    You made my heart beat
    You made my heart beat
You made my heart beat in and out of time
