Permawar

This was released as one of the intro tracks to Ministry's From Beer To Eternity album. The record was recorded at frontman Al Jourgensen 's 13th Planet compound in El Paso, Texas with guitarists Mike Scaccia and Sin Quirin, drummer Aaron Rossi and bassist Tony Campos. Three days after rough tracks for the songs were completed, Scaccia died from a heart attack he suffered onstage while playing a live show with his band Rigor Mattis.

The remaining Ministry members were absolutely devastated and Jourgensen announced in March 2013 that From Beer To Eternity would be the band's last ever album, as he didn't want to carry on without Scaccia. "Mikey was my best friend in the world and there's no Ministry without him", he told Noisey . "But I know the music we recorded together during the last weeks of his life had to be released to honor him. So after his funeral, I locked myself in my studio and turned the songs we had recorded into the best and last Ministry record anyone will ever hear. I can't do it without Mikey and I don't want to. So yes, this will be Ministry's last album."

Jourgensen recalled the recording of the album to Loudwire : "Me and Mikey, we would just jam around between country songs and we kept coming up with these riffs and Mikey kept going, 'Man we've got to put this out,'" remembered the frontman. "I kept telling him Ministry is done, but he's like, 'No, seriously dude. These riffs are cool; we have to put this out.' I kind of went into it begrudgingly and now I'm really quite happy with the result. I think this album came out like a great middle finger from me and Mikey as the final blow. So, I'm pretty happy with it."

The song's music video was shot in July 2013 at Jourgensen's Texan compound and directed by filmmaker/animator Zach Passero whose credits include Ministry's "Lieslieslies," "GhoulDiggers" and "99 Percenters," as well as the feature film Wicked Lake. The clip combines provocative news images taken from World War Two, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, with a bad acid trip. Jourgensen portrays three different personalities, representing three different points of view on America's persistence of war: the corrupt political leader, the predatory business man, and the passive observer.

Burning Of The Midnight Lamp

Hendrix wrote the lyrics on a flight from New York to Los Angeles in 1967. They express the confusion he felt at the time.

Hendrix: "That's really a song I'm proud of. Some people say this is the worst track we have ever done. I think it is the best. Even if the technique is not great, even if the sound is not clear and even if the lyrics can't be properly heard, this is a song that you often listen to and come back to. I don't play neither piano nor harpsichord, but I had managed to put together all these different sounds. It was the starting point."

Hendrix used a wah wah pedal on his guitar for this song. Frank Zappa was an influence on this.

Overnight

The title track of Parachute's third album finds Will Anderson singing about being unable to sleep because he's infatuated with a love interest. He declares desperately, "I can't get over you overnight," accompanied by a pounding kick drum. "'Overnight' is one of our favorite songs on the album," Anderson told Billboard magazine. "We feel it captures the essence of the whole record in one song, and enough so to make us name the whole album after it. It was easy to write, a lot of fun to record."

All The Little Lights

This is the title track of the third studio album by singer Mike Rosenberg who records under the moniker of Passenger. Born and bred in the United Kingdom, Rosenberg first took his act in October 2009 to Australia where he has earned a big following. All but one of the All The Little Lights tracks were recorded at Sydney's Linear Recording studio. He was joined by a core Australian band that included Boy & Bear drummer Tim Hart, jazz bassist Cameron Undy, and keyboards player Stu Hunter, from Katie Noonan & The Captains.

Passenger told VH1 that it is difficult to explain this song's meaning "without sounding a bit like a hippie." He added: "I think it's important with songwriting that you're honest, and you're vulnerable. There's a balance, because you don't want to specifically talk about yourself the whole time. You want to relate to people, and you want to give them the opportunity to put their own emotions into these songs — but every now and again, I like to put something specific and personal into them."

Where's Your Head At?

This was a huge international hit for Basement Jaxx, which is a UK dance/production duo formed in London by DJs Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe. Buxton, who writes most of their lyrics, told us this song is about "Losing control and about states of anxiousness," adding, "Basically, they're the same divide between sanity and madness."

The hook comes from a sample of Gary Numan's track "M.E." from his 1979 album The Pleasure Principle.

Damien Peachey is the lead vocalist on this song. Never heard of him? That's typical of Basement Jaxx, who use a variety of singers - many unknown - on their tracks.

And also typical, the duo adjusted the song to suit Peachey's personality. They took some time to get to know him and tweaked the words so he would be for comfortable singing them.

The football (soccer) chant chorus was provided by US house DJs Erick Morillo and Junior Sanchez.

The video contains a dig at the smugness of the dance music industry when a performing monkey band with human faces becomes the future of music. It was praised by Mixmag magazine as the best dance music video ever made. The video was shot over three days in a real mental hospital in Prague with some vicious monkeys.

The clip was directed by the Scandinavian team Traktor and stars Damian Samuels as the ill-fated record executive.

The refrain in this song started out as "Where are my dogs at?," which didn't fit the theme of the song (madness), but sounded great. Late one night, Buxton thought to himself, "Where's my head at?," and it clicked for him that the hook should be "Where's Your Head At?"

"That song was like a bit of a puzzle and it kind of grew into being," he told us.

This was featured in the 2001 film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

I dropped out of school to become a musician, and he went to university. Feels Like I'm In Love

Ray Dorset, who was the lead vocalist for Mungo Jerry, wrote this for Elvis Presley, who was one of his idols. Unfortunately, Elvis' untimely death ruled this out and the song ended up as the B-side of a Mungo Jerry single released in France. In the book 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh, Dorset explains: "I wrote Feels Like I'm In Love in 1977 with Elvis Presley in mind and even recorded it Elvis-style on my demo. My producer, Barry Murray, was about to send it to Elvis when he got a phone call saying Elvis had died. After that, I kinda put it to bed for a while. Kelly Marie had a few minor hits in France and had been hanging around our office a bit. I thought she had a good voice, so I asked her if she wanted to record the song."

This was originally released 18 months earlier but it failed to chart. It then became a northern club hit before finally topping the UK charts.

Kelly Marie was born Jacqueline McKinnon in Paisley, Scotland. She was known as Keli Brown, winning the TV talent show Opportunity Knocks 4 times under that name. She enjoyed European success when "Who's That Lady With My Man" won her a French gold disc and made many European charts. Her management thought this song could be the record to break her in the UK and they bought the rights to the song.

When this hit #1, Ray Dorset became one of the select group of singer/songwriters whose compositions had been #1s for themselves and other performers. In 1970 his own group Mungo Jerry topped the UK chart with "In The Summertime" then "Baby Jump."

The 46 weeks this spent on Billboard's Dance/Club Play Songs chart made it the longest-charting titles all-time on the tally.
