Turn The Night Up Lyrics

Baby you it's you and me,
You see, we can Turn The Night Up
And if you feel the way I feel
We can turn the night up

(Gimme some of that)
(Gimme some of that)
(Gimme some of that)

Damn you look so sexy
Baby you impress me
I wanna get nasty, nasty
Girl you got the bom bom
Take a shot, you want one
Mama I can change your life

(Gimme some of that)

The way you do it
You got that something
You got that something
So keep it moving, you know I love it
You know I love it

Baby you it's you and me,
You see, we can turn the night up
And if you feel the way I feel
We can turn the night up

(Gimme some of that)
(Gimme some of that)

Girl your body is effing
You know my intentions, I know you can go all night
I just wanna touch you, girl just let me touch
I know it's been on your mind

(Gimme some of that)

The way you do it
You got that something
You got that something
So keep it moving, you know I love it
You know I love it

(Gimme some of that)

One love, one love!

From Madrid, to Miami
From Miami, to the world

Baby you it's you and me,
You see, we can turn the night up
And if you feel the way I feel
We can turn the night up

Baby you it's you and me,
You see, we can turn the night up
And if you feel the way I feel
We can turn the night up

(Gimme some of that)
(Gimme some of that)
(Gimme some of that)

Turn The Night Up
  • This party track was produced by The Cataracs, who first came to prominence with their contribution to Far East Movement's chart-topper "Like a G6." The LA Valley Electro-Pop duo originally consisted of Niles Hollowell-Dhar and David "Campa" Singer-Vine, but when Campa announced that he was leaving to do his own thing in late 2012, he gave his blessing for Hollowell-Dhar to continue on without him. Working with Iglesias on his tenth studio album was one of Hollowell-Dhar's first projects since continuing as a one-man act. The song was debuted by Ryan Seacrest on his radio show on July 22, 2013.
  • Iglesias wrote the song around the lyric, "Gimme some of that." The line is something the singer often says to his girlfriend, retired professional tennis player Anna Kournikova, at home. "I always walk around my house saying, 'Gimme some of that,'" he explained to Radio.com . "If I'm hungry, I say, 'Gimme some of that.' If I'm horny, I say, 'Gimme some of that.' So I go to the studio and I kept on saying that phrase and we wrote a song around it."

This is where they stay crunk, throw it up, dubs on the Cadillac
White tees, Nike's, gangstas don't know how to act
Adamsville, Bankhead, College Park, Carver Homes
    Hummers floating on chrome
    Chokin' on that home-grown
    They got that southern cookin'
    They got them fellas lookin'
Thinkin' I was easy I can see it
That's when I say no, what fo'?
    Shawty can't handle this
    Ciara got that fire like

Oh, 'round here we ridin' slow
We keep it ghetto, you should know
Gettin' crunk off in the club we gets low, oh
Oh (oh), all my ladies to the flo'
Handle it ladies back it up
Getting crunk up in the club we gets low, oh

Buddy take a new whip, paint strip, into a bowlin' ball
Steel spoke honey spoke, wood-grain,armor all
Light-skinned thick chicks, fellas call 'em red bones
Close cuts, braids, long, gangstas love 'em all

Ludacris on the track, get back trick, switch on the 'Lac, I'm flexing steel
Same price every time, hot song, jumped on cause Ciara got sex appeal
And I keep the meanest, cleanest, baddest, spinning on stainless wheels
Could care less about your genus, I bump ya status, I keep the stainless steel
    Trunk-rattlin' what's happenin', huh?
I don't even think I need to speed
    Bass-travelin', face-crackilin' huh?
Turn it up and make the speakers bleed
    Dirty south we ballin' dog
And never think about fallin dog

All I really need to understand is
When you Talk Dirty to me

    Talk dirty to me
    Get jazzy on it

You know the words to my songs
    No habla ingles

    But you know what is

I know what the girl them want,

Uno, met your friend in Rio
Dos, she was all on me-o
Tres, we can menage a three though
    Quatro, ooh (2 Chainz!)

    Dos Cadenas, close to genius
Sold out arenas, you can suck my penis
    Gilbert Arenas, guns on deck
Chest to chest, tongue on neck
    International oral sex
Every picture I take, I pose a threat
Bought a jet, what do you expect?
Her pussy's so good I bought her a pet
Anyway, every day I'm trying to get to it
Got her saved in my phone under "Big Booty"

    Talk Dirty
  • The second single from Jason Derulo's Tattoos album finds the singer telling a girl who doesn't speak his language that all he really needs to understand is when she talks dirty to him. "It's just a shocking song," said Derulo. "People will be thinking 'Hmm, really?!' It's very out there, but it was so fun." The tune was premiered on BBC Radio 1xtra on July 22, 2013.
  • The song includes a contribution by American rapper 2 Chainz, becoming Derulo's first single to contain a feature. "Now feels like the time," he explained to Digital Spy . "I wanted to establish myself first and didn't want to lean on collaborations like some artists tend to do. I've always wanted my songs to stand up on my own, but the features have been really fun this time around."
  • The song debuted at #1 on the Australian Singles Chart, Derulo's second song to do so in the country after his 2010 release "In My Head." It also reached the top of the charts in several other countries including Germany and the United Kingdom.

"I learned throughout the year to trust my gut and what people around me say," DeRulo reflected to British newspaper Daily Star. "I had a feeling 'Talk Dirty' was the record. As I played it to people, they went nuts for it. You don't have to go into a lab and put this potion here and that potion there to find out what a good song is."

"'Talk Dirty' being my third #1 in the UK was pretty special," he added. "Beforehand there was such a big argument on what the next single should be after 'The Other Side.'"
  • The music video was directed by Colin Tilley on July 14, 2013. The director previously worked with Derulo on his clips for "It Girl," "Breathing," "Fight For You" and "The Other Side." Tilley said that they intended to embrace a variety of dance from different parts of the world: "We've got girls from different cultures that came and danced and brought out a different energy," he said, "and just created this beast that was really fun and exciting."
  • The song's production was provided by Ricky Reed, the mastermind behind the Hip-Hop and Pop music act, Wallpaper. The bass-heavy instrumentation samples the saxophone riff in a 2007 song titled "Hermetico" by the Israeli band Balkan Beat Box.

It was A&R man Miles Beard who picked up on the "Hermetico" saxophone riff. "Miles heard the song in January and played it for me on his phone in Los Angeles," Ricky Reed recalled to Billboard magazine. "As soon as the saxophone riff came in, I knew it was a hit waiting to happen."
  • After a video of One Direction dancing along to this song went viral, fans of the boy-band started making their own YouTube clips moving to the tune. Derulo latched onto the sensation, and enlisted other celebrities to appear in a "Celebrities Talkin' Dirty" visual. Released by the singer on March 14, 2014 to his official YouTube account, the short film included cameos by Bow Wow, Flo Rida, Ariana Grande, Enrique Iglesias, Larry King, Austin Mahone, One Direction, Jordin Sparks, Robin Thicke and Will.i.am.
  • An effective method for branding an artist is having his name mentioned by another voice in the song's intro. That's what Vanilla Ice did in "Ice Ice Baby" ("Yo Vanilla, kick it one time"), and that's what Derulo does here, with an exotic female voice saying "Jason... Jason Derulo" before we hear from him. This takes the guesswork out of knowing who sings the song. Another hit song to do this around the same time is "Dark Horse," which plugs its singers Katy Perry and Juicy J.
  • This also acted as the title track of Derulo's Talk Dirty album. The collection was sold solely in the United States, after Tattoos was only released as a 5-track EP in the country.
  • The song is very compact: it runs just 2:57, but gets in three verses, three choruses and a bridge (the "uno... dos..." part). The claps and horns are key elements in the song, making a great transition out of the verses.
  • DeRulo told Billboard the story of the song: "When I first heard the track, I loved it because it sounded exotic and Eastern," he recalled. "The chorus came to me immediately. I channeled my experience touring the world. You don't need to speak the language to communicate - body language is universal."

The Sun Always Shines on T.V. Lyrics

    Touch me
    How can it be
    Believe me
The sun always shines on TV
    Hold me
    Close to your heart
    Touch me
And give all your love to me
    To me

    I Reached inside myself
    And found nothing there
    To ease the pressure of
    My ever worrying mind
    All my powers waste away
I fear the crazed and lonely looks
    The mirror's sending me
    These Days
Please don't ask me to defend
    The shameful lowlands
    Of the way I'm drifting
    Gloomily through time

    I reached inside myself today
Thinking there's got to be some way
    To keep my troubles distant

    Touch me
    How can it be
    Believe me
The sun always shines on TV
    Hold me
    Close to your heart
    Touch me
And give all your love to me

The Sun Always Shines on T.V.
  • Phil Waaktaar, a-ha's guitarist and writer of this song is quoted in 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh as saying: "The Sun Always Shines On TV was written on one of those down days. Me and Mags (Furuholmen, keyboards) were in a hotel watching English television on a rainy day and the guy announcing the program says, 'It's a rainy day but, as always, the sun always shines on TV.' The song is about the power of television and the way television presents life."
  • The video continues the story of the "Take On Me" video. At the beginning, Morten Harket turns back into a comic book character and then it shows television-like credits.

    Acapella Lyrics

Used to be your baby, used to be your lady
Thought you were the perfect lover
All the harmony went fallin' out of key, so
    Now you gotta find another
Now you're talkin' crazy, sayin' that you made me
    Like I was your Cinderella
You and me are through though, watch me hit it solo
    I'mma do it Acapella, yeah
    I'mma do it acapella, yeah

Once upon a time, I met the perfect guy
He had that Colgate smile, he had that suit & tie
Mama always said "get a rich boyfriend,
You don't gotta love 'em, girl, you can pretend"
You bet I totes believed her, yeah, every word she said
Thought he was gluten-free, but all that I got was bread
Mama always said "nice guys finish last,
Beat him at his own game, honey, take the cash"

Ooh, and what a lucky girl you will be
But no, he didn't do jack for me
I want a bean with the beanstalk
And if the magic ain't right, time to walk

Used to be your baby, used to be your lady
Thought you were the perfect lover
All the harmony went fallin' out of key, so
    Now you gotta find another
Now you're talkin' crazy sayin' that you made me

    I'mma do it acapella, yeah
    Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
    I'mma do it acapella, yeah

Out on our first date, he took me gourmet
We hit that Olive Garden, my Little Italy
Daddy always said "let the gentleman pay,
Never ever go Dutch at the buffet"
I saw his bad intention, he didn't wanna talk
He put the saucy on it (Oops!) time to check my watch
Daddy always said "money can't buy class,
You don't wanna get stuck takin' out trash"

Ooh, and yeah I guess it wasn't meant to be
Because he didn't do jack for me
I want a bean with the beanstalk
And if the magic ain't right, time to walk

Used to be your baby, used to be your lady
Thought you were the perfect lover

Watch me do it in falsetta
    Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
    Oh-oh-oh
Never mind, bring the beat back

Used to be your baby, used to be your lady

    Acapella
  • The official first single by American Pop duo Karmin, from their debut Pulses album, was penned by group members Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan with Sam Hollander (Big Time Rush's "Big Night," One Direction's "Rock Me") and Boys Like Girls frontman, Martin Johnson. The track was premiered on June 10, 2013 on Z100's Elvis Duran Show and was released on iTunes June 25, 2013.
  • The song is an ode to independence after the narrator realizes that her rich lover is a total dud. The duo flipped the the meaning of a cappella from singing without instruments to "I can do it by myself"' or "I don't need a rich boyfriend."

"Actually, 90% of the track was done a cappella," Noonan told Billboard magazine. "We went back there and made all kinds of weird sounds and chopped it up and put it in the computer."
  • The video was directed by Matt Stawski and was inspired by '90s music videos that the duo grew up watching. It uses a monochromatic color palette as the Karmin perform choreographed moves, which is something they've never done before on camera: "I actually enjoyed it," Nick Noonan told MTV News regarding his footwork. "To be honest I was a little hesitant in the beginning, I was like, 'I'm sorry, what?' But it wasn't even like someone else was saying it, it was us saying, 'Hey, we want to do this,' but I was still like, 'hey, I'm going to go for it and we're going to do everything and see.' If it looks terrible we've got to be straight up with ourselves though. You don't put a square into a round hole; you know what I'm saying? Is that the right analogy?"
  • Acapella is really spelled "a capella", but that doesn't read well, since it looks like a reference to something called a capella. The term means "without instrumental accompaniment," and comes from an Italian phrase that literally translates to "in the manner of a choir." Kellis released a song of the same title in 2010, and also used the "acapella" spelling.

The metaphor is apt in this song if the guy is considered the musical accompaniment. Note that "a capella" doesn't mean "solo," however, as a group of singers could perform in that style. Of course, ever since Rihanna's "Umbrella," Pop singers have been seeking "-ella" words, as they sing well and have some intriguing rhymes that can lead a storyline (fella, Cinderella...).

    Big Time Sensuality
  • Björk (quoted in Record Collector magazine on Björk.com): "A lot of my songs - including Big Time Sensuality - are about my friends, not my lovers. It's not erotic or sensual even if it may sound like that. As you know, you create pretty deep, full-on love relationships with friends. A lot of it is also about myself. I can be a coward a lot of the time and there comes a moment when I write a song when I get quite brave. It's a lot about me dealing with myself rather than attacking other people."
  • Until her 2007 song "Earth Intruders" peaked at #84, this was Björk's biggest hit in the US.

Need him but you’re never gonna keep him
You should get used to this feeling
Watch him go let him go

    Does anyone love anyone anymore
    Does anyone love anyone anymore
Take what they want, take it and run out the door

He gets further away (stop thief somebody hey)
Yeah yeah (he just stole her heart and he’s gettin’ away)
With every step that you take (call up the romance police)
Yeah yeah (he’s got deep blue eyes, he’s disturbing the peace)

    Changin’ he’s been actin’ strange
He talks but what’s he saying
    Heaven knows let him go

Cheatin’ and you’re never gonna beat him
Just shake him like a demon

"I wanted someone so bad who didn't want me back, and that experience kind of shaped my approach to relationships for years to come. The song is a cautionary tale to avoid those kinds of heartbreakers, so it felt right to go home and revisit that time."

    Human Behaviour Lyrics

If you ever get close to a human
    And human behavior
Be ready, be ready to get confused

There's definitely, definitely, definitely no logic
    To human behavior
But yet so, yet so irresistible

    And there's no map

    They're terribly moody
    And human behavior
Then all of a sudden turn happy

But, oh, to get involved in the exchange
    Of human emotions
Is ever so, ever so satisfying

Oh oh, and there's no map

    Human behavior, human
    Human, human behavior, human
    Human, human behavior, human
    Human behavior, human

    And there's no map
    And the compass
    Wouldn't help at all

    Human behavior, human, human
    Human behavior, human

    Human Behaviour
  • This was the first UK Top 40 hit for Björk. She grew up in a hippie commune, recording her first album at the age of 11. In her teens she worked with the group Kukl (Witchcraft) before becoming a member of The Sugarcubes.
  • One influence for the video was Russian animator Yuri Norstein's classic cartoon The Hedgehog In The Fog. It was the first Björk video directed by Michel Gondry, who would later helm her videos for "Hyperballad," "Joga," "Bachelorette," "Declare Independence" and "Crystalline."
  • Björk (from Rolling Stone, September 1993): "Human Behaviour is an animal's point of view on humans. And the animals are definitely supposed to win in the end. So why, one might ask, is the conquering bear presented as a man-made toy? I don't know. I guess I just didn't think it would be fair to force an animal to act in a video. I mean, that would be an extension of what I'm against. I told him (Michel Gondry the video's director), 'I want a bear and textures like handmade wood and leaves and earth, and I want it to seem like animation.' Then I backed out."
  • Björk explained the line, "There's definitely, definitely, definitely no logic to human behaviour" during a 2011 Q&A with The Guardian: "At the time I wrote it I was referring to my childhood and probably talking about how I felt more comfortable on my own walking outside singing and stuff than hanging out with humans... I experienced harmony with kids, the mountains and the ocean surrounding Reykjavik and animals I guess but found grown ups rather chaotic and nonsensical."
  • Björk initially wrote the vocal melody in 1988 when she was still the lead singer of the Sugarcubes, but they couldn't come up with the music to fit it. Producer Nellee Hooper found the solution in a tinkered sample from "Go Down Dying" by Brazilian musician Antonio Carlos Jobim.

    Rewind The Film again
I'd love to see my joy, my friends
    Rewind the film again
So I can fall asleep content

    Rewind the film once more
Turn back the pages of my post
    Rewind the film once more
I want the world to see it all

    I want to feel small
    Lying in my mother's arms
    Playing my old records
    Hoping that they never stop

    There's too much heartbreak
In the nothing of the now
I want to see it all
Never want to let it go

    Rewind the film once more
Turn back the pages of my post
    Rewind the film once more
I want the world to see it all

Let me hide under the sheets
    And celebrate the boredom
Let me hide under the sheets
    With my brave old one

    Rewind the film again
I'd love to see my joy, my friends
    Rewind the film again
So I can fall asleep content

    Rewind the film once more
Turn back the pages of my post
    Rewind the film once more
I want the world to see it all

    I want to feel small
    Holding on my father's hands
    Playing all the records
    Praying that they'll never stop

    There is too much heartbreak
In the nothing of the now
I want to see it all
Never going to let you down

    Rewind the film once more
Turn back the pages of my post
    Rewind the film once more
I want the world to see it all

I want the world to see all the love
    And security, my childhood dreams
But now I am a busted flush
And I am waiting for the night to come

    So rewind the film again
I'd love to see my joy, my friends
    Yes, rewind the film again

    Rewind The Film
  • This plea for nostalgia and comfort features a brooding, melancholic contribution from Richard Hawley. The Sheffield singer-songwriter told Gigwise that he and Manics frontman James Dean Bradfield clicked after they both contributed songs to Dame Shirley Bassey's 2009 album, The Performance. "I met James at that Shirley Bassey concert because we both wrote songs for her. I was sat at the side of the stage just watching her and completely in awe then James just came up and tapped me on the shoulder and we just sat together completely enthralled by Ms Bassey. We got chatting afterwards and it turns out that both of our fathers were first-wave teddy boy bikers. You don't meet many other people like that. It was a shared experience we had of growing up with people who were fairly fu--ing wild."

"We swapped phone numbers," he continued," and texted each other occasionally, but he was off having a family and a break while I was away on the road, then he just phoned me and said, 'We've written this song and all decided that you have to sing it or it won't go on the album.' So I just said, 'I can't let you down,' and it was a great honour I drove down to Cardiff in a day and it's a really beautiful song. I play a bit of Hawaiian guitar on it and it's me and James doing a duet. He sings one part and I sing another.

Nick (Wire, bass) wrote the words I sing and James wrote his bit, so it's a very personal song," Hawley concluded, "and I was surprised that Nicky wanted me to sing it, but now that I've done it I can see why. It's quite dramatic and acoustic."
  • Manic Street Preachers bassist and lyricist Nicky Wire explained the song's meaning to The Quietus : "It's a tiny bit heartbreaking, that song, he said. 'I want to be small, lying in my mother's arms.' It's saying, 'I'd like to do it all again.' It's not about changing stuff because it's been fu--ing brilliant. That's hard to put into a lyric. I loved growing up, I loved being a kid, I love my Mum and Dad and my brother, and then I loved being in a band, and doing education in between. Being very blessed in a very simple way - there's no extravagances in those years. It's about realising it's fu--ing over, and that's what permeates the sadness."

All I Need Is A Miracle Lyrics

I said go if you want to go
Stay if you want to stay
I didn't care if you hung around me
I didn't care if you went away
And I know you were never right
I'll admit I was never wrong
I could never make up my mind
I made it up as I went along

And though I treated you like a child
I'm gonna miss you for the rest of my life

All I Need Is A Miracle, all I need is you
All I need is a miracle, all I need is you
All I need is a miracle, all I need is you

    I never had any time
And I never had any call
But I went out of my way just to hurt you
The one I shouldn't hurt at all
I thought I was being cool
Yeah, I thought I was being strong
But it's always the same old story
You never know what you've got 'til it's gone

If I ever catch up with you
I'm gonna love you for the rest of your life

All I need is a miracle, all I need is you
(All I need is a miracle) all I need is a miracle, all I need is you
(All I need is a miracle) all I need is a miracle, all I need is you

And if I ever catch up with you
I'm gonna love you for the rest of your life

All I need is a miracle, all I need is you
(All I need is a miracle) all I need is a miracle, all I need is you

All I Need Is A Miracle
  • The "Mike" in Mike + the Mechanics is Mike Rutherford, best known for his work with Genesis. Every member of Genesis embarked on other projects, with the solo efforts of Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins getting the most attention, but Rutherford did very well with with Mike + the Mechanics, whose biggest hit came in 1989 with "The Living Years."
  • "If you write a great song, you want a great voice, and that voice isn't me," Mike Rutherford said in explaining why he didn't sing in the band.

Rutherford used ex-Sad Cafe singer Paul Young (not to be confused with the Paul Young who sang "Every Time You Go Away"), for lead vocals on this track and three others from the album. Paul Carrack, known for his solo recordings and his work with Squeeze, sang on three other tracks. Young died in 2000 at age 53.
  • A track from Mike + the Mechanics first album, Mike Rutherford, who played guitar and bass on the song, wrote it with Christopher Neil, who produced the album. The song is about a guy who treated his girl horribly, and now wishes he had her back. It's a case of lyrical dissonance, as the jaunty beat belies the anguished storyline.
  • The video contains dialogue and follows a story arc where the band's manager needs a miracle to raise some cash so he can pay off a club owner. His shots are intercut with footage of the band performing at said club.

The clip was directed by Jim Yukich, who did many of the Genesis videos.
  • In the UK, this made #53 when it was first released, but did better when it was re-released in 1996, placing at #27.

    Impossible Lyrics

And you called me on the phone
To say there's nothing to talk about
Wish you stopped your crying long enough just to hear me out
Oh we are, we are, just what we are

In the pride of all the things
    I've been putting you through
When I shot up at the sky,
I didn't know it'd fall down on you
Take it all back, take it all back

I didn't mean to make you suffer
I didn't mean to make you cry
I just wanna put us back together
    This isn't Impossible
    This isn't impossible
    This isn't impossible
    This isn't impossible
    Yeah, yeah, oh, oh

I know this is getting under your skin
If we can make it through the winter,
We could fall in love again
Oh we are, we are, just what we are

    And all these days
It's just too easy to be calling it quits
    But a life without you
Would be too hard to find happiness
Take it all back, take it all back, take it all back

I didn't mean to make you suffer
I didn't mean to make you cry
I just wanna put us back together
    This isn't impossible
    This isn't impossible
    This isn't impossible
    This isn't impossible
    Yeah, yeah, oh, oh

Well I'll just set us straight to breaking me up
Cause every corner is a memory
One day I'll write you back
You took my wings and left me
    Here all alone
    I'm sorry I'm a little deranged
And a little behind it all

I didn't mean to make you suffer
I didn't mean to make you cry
I just wanna put us back together
    This isn't impossible
    This isn't impossible

I didn't mean to make you suffer
I didn't mean to make you cry
I just wanna put us back together
    This isn't impossible

    Impossible
  • This is the lead single from Ryan Star 's EP, Animals. The record was recorded by the singer-songwriter in Rhinebeck, New York with his touring band, which was a first for him. The song was recorded live in one take.
  • Star wrote this song around the same time as "Start a Fire" from his 2010 album 11:59, but he kept tweaking it and didn't record it until session for his 2013 Animals EP.
  • "Impossible" inspired the title of the EP. Star explained to Billboard magazine: "It stems from a quote I heard that humans are a hybrid between angels and animals. I feel this dichotomy every waking second and finally put it in this brutally honest song."
  • Ido Zmishlany produced the Animals EP. He thinks that he and Star work so well together because they come from a common ground. In his Songfacts interview , Zmishlany explained that both he and Star started out in bands from Long Island, so they understand each other's journeys of getting to the next phases of their careers. Zmishlany revealed how the tune was a telling of those experiences: "We had come from a similar place. I think that song was a reflection of it - a relationship that's stood the test of the trials and tribulations of doing what we do."

Build God, Then We'll Talk Lyrics

    It's these substandard motels
On the corner of 4th and Freemont Street
Appealing, only because they're just that unappealing
Any practiced Catholic would cross themselves upon entering
The rooms have a hint of asbestos
And maybe just a dash of formaldehyde
And the habit of decomposing right before your very eyes
    Along with the people inside

What a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy

Tonight tenants range from a lawyer and a virgin
Accessorizing with a rosary tucked inside her lingerie
She's getting a job at the firm come Monday
The Mrs. will stay with the cheating attorney
Moonlighting aside, she really needs his money
    A wonderful caricature of intimacy

And not to mention, the constable
And his proposition, for that virgin
Yes, the one the lawyer met with on strictly business
As he said to the Mrs.
Well, only hours before, after he had left
She was fixing her face in a compact
    There was a terrible crash
    Between her and the badge
She spilled her purse and her bag
And held a "purse" of a different kind
    Along with the people inside

What a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy

There are no raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things

Raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things

Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy

At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things

At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains

    Build God, Then We'll Talk
  • This song follows a girl who sleeps around to get what she wants in life. It is also about deceit: A lawyer tells his good friend the constable about this "Virgin," who sleeps with the constable to get a job at the firm. He is cheating on his wife with said virgin, and even takes his wife's purse and replaces it with one of another color, presumably to pay for the sex.
  • The lyrics, "There are no raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses, it's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses, at the shade of the sheets before all the stains, and a few more of your least favorite things" refer to the song "My Favorite Things" as sung by Julie Andrews' character (a nun) in The Sound of Music.
  • "Build god and then we'll talk" is a quote from Chuck Palahniuk's book Choke. Panic has drawn inspiration for many of their song titles from his books.
