Overpowered Lyrics

If you ain't reggae for it, funk out
No-one knocking at your door, funk out
Overpowered by funk, funk out
It's combatative, repetitive
Don't life just funk you out?
Asinine, stupefying
Can the clone-line dry you out?
Part of the swarming mass, funk out
Slugged by the new increase, funk out
Scared of the human bomb, funk out
Overpowered by funk, funk out
Buy dog food, rogue elephants
Tarzan on a ticker tape
Ooo-ooh
Breakfast cereals
You know you can't escape
Overpowered by funk
Don't you love our Western ways?
Car crashed by funk
Don't you love our Western ways?
Benny Goodman, trial by jury
A phone box-full of books
"It's morning, you know!"
Dustcarts at sunrise
No-one gets off the hooks
Car crashed

Food for the hungry millions, funk out!
Home for the floating people, funk out!
Over-drunk on power
This is a message from Futura, don't prophisize the future
I liven up the culture because I'm deadly as a vulture
I paint on civilization, I had this realization
It's environmentally wack, so presenting my attack
You know, I'll brighten up your shack
I'm down by law and that's a fact
Just give me a wall, any building, dull or tall
I spray clandestine night subway
I cover with red-purple on top of grey, hey
No slashing cause it ain't the way, the T.A. blew forty mil' they say
We threw it down by night and they scrubbed it off by day
OK tourists, picture frame, tickets here for the graffiti train
Funk power
Over-and-out
Funk-funk-funk, funk-funk-funk-funk-funk
Funk-funk-funk, funk-funk-funk-funk-funk, ha
Funk power, ha!
Funk power

Overpowered
  • This song was written at the Ear Studios rehearsals in September 1981, and recorded in the Electric Lady studios in December 1981, featuring additional instrumentation in the form of keyboards by Poly Mandell and a rap section by Futura 2000, graffiti artist and friend of the band. He had toured with the band for the previous two years, spray-painting a graffiti stage backdrop whilst the band played, and joining them live onstage for an improvised rap song once he had finished his work. He even references his graffiti work on the New York subway trains in his rap ("The T.A. blew forty mil they say, we threw down by night, they scrubbed it off by day").

There are rumors that Futura 2000 recorded a standalone track, "The Escapades of Futura 2000" in these sessions too, but if he did it has never been released.
  • "Overpowered By Funk" is very much a continuation of the themes and musical styles first experimented with on "The Magnificent Seven." It is a heavy Funk track with freeform lyrics referencing capitalism ("Don't you love our Western ways?"), the Vietnam War ("Home for the floating people? Skin for the napalm victim?"), capital punishment ("Fry me in your shockin' chairs") and even using the Funk genre of music to represent the repetitive boredom of being stuck in a dead-end job ("Combative, repetitive, don't life just funk you out?"). It also includes subtle references to Tarzan and Benny Goodman.
  • Like "The Magnificent Seven," this song was remixed multiple times by rap radio stations in New York, and a bootleg exists of an extended six-minute-plus instrumental remix of the song.
  • This was only played by The Clash a handful of times - in their Paris residency in September 1981- before being dropped again. Presumably with "The Magnificent Seven" still being a massive fan favorite in The Clash's set, there wasn't room for another rap/funk song with lengthy instrumental sections and improv lyrics.

    Youth Lyrics

    They didn't warn me
    When I was running wild
    The dragons breathing fire
    In the backyard at night

    We live in circles
And it's so hard to breathe
    Maybe the same old fears
    What have we here?
    Don't bring me down
    With you

    Now I'm just chasing time
With a thousand dreams I'm holding heavy
And as we cross the line these fading beats have all been severed
Don't tell me our Youth is running out
    It's only just begun

If I asked you for good news
Would you smile and turn away?
    It's like a bad dream
That is too afraid to wake

    There are many among us
And we're changing all the time
    Maybe the same old fears
    What have we here?
    Don't bring me down
    With you

    Now I'm just chasing time
With a thousand dreams I'm holding heavy
And as we cross the line these fading beats have all been severed
Don't tell me our youth is running out
    It's only just begun

    These fading beats
    These fading beats

    Now I'm just chasing time
With a thousand dreams I'm holding heavy
And as we cross the line these fading beats have all been severed

    Youth
  • Louisa Rose Allen is an English singer and songwriter who records under the name of Foxes. This was one of the first tunes that she penned and was originally released by independent label Neon Gold Records in 2011. "Don't tell me our youth is running out, it's only just begun" she sings over resplendent synths and industrial percussion. Foxes said: "It was the first song where I thought, 'OK, now I can see the vision, now I can see the album'."
  • The song only started getting airplay after Foxes guested on hit singles for Zedd and Rudimental, which gave her the necessary exposure.
  • This was used to soundtrack a TV commercial promoting the Unrivalled Collection of Designers at Debenhams department stores. Foxes can also be seen briefly in the ad.
  • Foxes told Digital Spy regarding the song's accompanying music video: "'Youth' is about having these jobs... being stuck in a job or a life where you're not living your dream. The video talks about that visually."

"There's the fire coming up and then we go into this magical world," she added, "where we're like, 'F--k it, let's do what we want!'"
  • Foxes penned the song with help from producer Jonny 'Ghostwriter' Harris who also co-wrote Rudimental's chart-topper "Waiting All Night." The lyrics were inspired by the singer's young-at-heart, single-parent mum.
  • Foxes told Radio.com that she wrote the song to let others know that just because you're getting older doesn't mean you have to give up your childhood dreams. "I definitely think I was brought up to have this idea that you can do what you love and you can kind of stay a big kid and have that imagination," she said. "You can do what you love."

  • This song is a humorous reference to the band name: Gavrilo Princip, a member of the Serbian rebel group "The Black Hand" shot the archduke of Austria, Franz Ferdinand, in Serajevo in 1914 ("bang bang, Gavril Princip, bang bang, shoot me Gravillo"). This incident is considered to be the trigger of the first world war ("Bang bang, Europe's going to weep").

    I Know You Well Lyrics

    This morning under awaking glow
The sun filled our room like December snow
Like morning through an old window
There's a place in your head I will always know

To the same world born two of a kind
If it's on your mind, it'll be on mine ?cause
    I Know You Well
Like the soil in the ground

Grass grown in the shadow of a blow
And if the blow will never toll
    You and me grow old
I hope we'll live to tell

How you know I know you knew I know you well
Down under, beneath the softened skin
Where the words we whisper sink in
It's no wonder the way the words still ring

Sure as sin, it's not a secret thing
To the same world born two of a kind
If it's on your mind, it'll be on mine ?cause
    I know you well

Like the soil in the ground
Grass grown in the shadow of a blow
And if the blow will never toll
    You and me grow old

I hope we'll live to tell
How you know I know you knew I know new york 1991
Here in the same room for so long
    Out of the cold November

    Still as a passport picture
    Still as a passport picture

    I'm going coast to coast
    I'm going nationwide
I got my hand on the trigger
Got my girl by my side
I got the looks that kill
I got a license to love
    I got a German shepherd

    I'm heading for the sun
    I'm gonna become

    Oh yeah
    A California sex lawyer
    Oh yeah

    Oh yeah
Well, it's not fair, but baby, I don't care

    I got backup plans
    I got the cha-cha-charisma
    Got the sleight of hand
    I'm gonna do some damage
    Gonna bust some heads
    I'm gonna go the distance
    Then I'm going to bed

    I'm heading for the sun

Perhaps it was only because we were sitting in a quiet office, but at the time it seemed like the funniest thing in the world. Why it needed to be turned into a song, I'm still not sure."

    Tusk!
    Tusk!

    Publisher: Kobalt Music Publishing Ltd.

    Tusk
  • The "Tusk" is slang for penis, so the song is basically about sex. When Stevie Nicks heard the album was going to be called Tusk, she objected, but Mick Fleetwood really wanted to use the title, so he ignored her and she dropped the subject.

Stevie Nicks recalled to Mojo in 2015: "I didn't understand the title, there was nothing beautiful or elegant about the word 'tusk.' It really bought to mind those people stealing ivory. Even then, in 1979 you just thought, the rhinos are being poached and that tusks are being stolen and the elephants are being slaughtered and ivory is being sold on the black market. I don't recall it being (Mick's slang term for the male member), that went right over my prudish little head. I wasn't told that until quite a while after the record was done, and when I did find out I liked the title even less!"
  • The music was based on a riff the band used to play when they were introduced at concerts as the lights came up and they were introduced to the audience. When it came time to record the Tusk album, they decided to use it for a song.
  • The University of Southern California marching band played on this track. Mick Fleetwood decided to use a big brass sound after a visit to Europe in 1978 where he saw brass bands marching down the street.

Speaking with Johnny Black in 1995, Mick Fleetwood explained how it happened: "In soundchecks we used to jam on that riff, and I did the riff in drum form. When it came time to make the album, we pulled that riff out, screwed around with it, put it in the dustbin, and then a year into making that album, I pulled it out again and took it with me as a rough track to Normandy and came up with the idea of using the brass band on it, and using about 100 drummers on it, which we did.

That really worked. It's a glorious noise, and it's something I'm proud of because it's all drums. There's really no lyrics to it.

So I resurrected that, much to everyone's amazement, and I insisted on recording the USC marching band at Dodger Stadium. By this time they'd thought for sure I'm round the twist, and I said, 'Well, I'm going to pay for it. And we're going to film it.' They thought, 'For sure, he's blown it. He's way off the deep end.'"
  • The USC Trojan Marching Band was recorded at Dodger Stadium on June 4, 1979 while the Los Angeles Dodgers were on a road trip. This was a few weeks after graduation, so while some band members didn't show, most did, since just about everyone had a copy of Rumours in their dorm room and was thrilled to play on a Fleetwood Mac track.

Rehearsals took place in late May, and the day of the recording, each band member signed a release and was paid a dollar. The whole scene was filmed, and the footage used to make the music video. Stevie Nicks is seen twirling, but not like her signature stage move - this time it was with a baton.
  • Lindsey Buckingham was keen on experimentation at the time, so he recorded some of his vocals for this song in his bathroom using a microphone he placed on the floor that was connected to his home studio. He
also did some percussion for the track on empty Kleenex boxes in his bathroom.
  • During the recording of the album, Mick Fleetwood got a large pair of replica elephant tusks that he set up on either side of the console, which became known as "Tusk." Whenever the console wasn't working, the band would say, "Tusk is down, Tusk isn't working!"

According to Stevie Nicks, the tusks gave them inspiration. "Those 13 months working in that room were our journey up the sacred mountain to the sacred African percussion place, were all the gods of music lived," she said.
  • The group's bass player John McVie had a falling out with Lindsey Buckingham and never made it to Dodger Stadium for the shoot, so he was replaced in the video with a cardboard cutout. When MTV launched in 1981, the song had already been out for two years, but the network played it anyway, as they didn't have many clips by popular rock bands.
  • In 1977, Fleetwood Mac released Rumours, which was one of the most successful albums ever released. Tusk was the follow-up, but the band (especially Lindsey Buckingham), decided to experiment instead of copying the sound of Rumours. The result was a 20-track double album with some very adventurous songs. The title track was the first single, and it did well, reaching #8 in the US. The next single was "Sara," which made #7.

Tusk ended up selling far fewer copies than Rumours, partly because the double disc was sold for a hefty $15.98 in America. It certainly didn't tarnish the band's legacy, as it showed that they were willing to take risks when they could have simply recycled Rumours.

"Tusk is probably my favorite and most important Fleetwood Mac album," Mick Fleetwood said. "Tusk meant this band's survival - if we hadn't made that album, we might have broken up."
  • On the Tusk tour, Fleetwood Mac played five shows in December 1979 at The Forum in Inglewood, California, near Los Angeles. The USC Trojan Marching Band appeared with them at each of these shows, lifted from hydraulic risers behind the stage to join the band on this song.
  • Fittingly, this is a very popular song among marching bands, especially at USC where the song has been performed regularly since its inception. At home games, fans often chant "UCLA Sucks!" during the song, even if they are not playing UCLA.

Two other schools also claimed it: the University of Alabama and the University of Arkansas. The Arkansas mascot is a razorback (boar) known as "Tusk"; the University of Alabama's mascot is an elephant known as "Big Al," which is actually tuskless in anthropomorphic form, but the University of Alabama is in Tuscaloosa.

You mad ill, I knew you'd be the one to keep it real
And I can't even lie dawg, when I see y'all it gives me chills

    For a long, long time
If our hearts go the wrong way
    I still know you're mine
Should we even try to fight it?
If our love is trapped in all ways
I know that things been rough
But when you're by my side
    It's more than enough, yeah
For us to make it through the test of time

  • This song finds Future collaborating with the English singer-songwriter Mr. Hudson, who is best known for his contribution to Jay-Z's "Young Forever." Also on the track is Miley Cyrus, with whom The Astronaut Kid also worked on the Bangerz track "My Darlin'."
  • Miley Cyrus and Mr. Hudson sing to each other on the chorus over Mike WiLL Made It's production. Future explained during an appearance on MTV's RapFix Live that the English singer-songwriter sent him the hook ready for his raps. "I worked with Miley Cyrus when we were working on her project, for her album," he said. "I was doing some records in Vegas and Mr. Hudson sent a hook back he did on a Mike Will track. He played it for Miley and she wanted to be a part of it, so I'm putting the record on my album also."
  • The song was inspired by Future's relationship with his fiancée Ciara.
  • The futuristic video shows Future and Mr. Hudson on an interstellar mission who discover a seemingly lifeless Cyrus on a barren planet. The Astronaut Kid and Mi-Cy fall in love despite the Wrecking Ball singer revealing her true alien nature. "It's about somebody sacrificing their life for love," Future told MTV News of the clip. "It connected with me and my whole theme that I've been going with, as far as Pluto and my astronaut status, so I feel like I can close that chapter after this video and move on to something else."

The clip was directed by the English portrait and fashion photographer Rankin, who has also helmed music promos for Nelly Furtado ("Say It Right"), Kelis ("Acapella") and Rita Ora ("Facemelt.")
  • Future told Spin magazine that he's always been infatuated with space through music. "I guess that was the [way I got into it]," he explained "I use it for wordplay. I've been an astronaut kid — that was one of my alter egos. I felt like I made timeless music. It was something new — nobody really ever touched on space. It was something to keep the people interested, give the fans something new. [To] have the same wordplay, but be in space."
  • Spin magazine asked Future what it was about Mr. Hudson's hook that he connected with? The Atlanta rapper replied: "Just to remain true. Everybody can relate to being real or true. Somehow, someway, you want to be real and true. Even being in a relationship, or being out of a relationship, going through tough times with someone you're in a relationship with — all those things. Basically just capturing the moment where I'm at in my life right now. To express myself in a different way that I never have. To make it great for the fans and show growth."

  • When Dave Grohl was young, his best friend was a kid who lived across the street named Johnny Park. Grohl hadn't heard from him since he was about 14 years old, and thought if he named a song after him he might call. (from www.fooarchive.com thanks, Bert - Pueblo, NM)

Stacy's Mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on

Stacy, can I come over after school? (after school)
We can hang around by the pool (hang by the pool)
Did your mom get back from her business trip? (business trip)
Is she there, or is she trying to give me the slip? (give me the slip)

You know, I'm not the little boy that I used to be
I'm all grown up now, baby can't you see

Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
She's all I want and I've waited for so long
Stacy, can't you see you're just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong but I'm in love with Stacy's mom

Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on

Stacy, do you remember when I mowed your lawn? (mowed your lawn)
Your mom came out with just a towel on (towel on)
And the way she said, "You missed a spot over there" (a spot over there)

And I know that you think it's just a fantasy
But since your dad walked out, your mom could use a guy like me

Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
She's all I want, and I've waited so long
Stacy, can't you see you're just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong,
but I'm in love with Stacy's mom

Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
She's all I want and I've waited for so long,
Stacy can't you see your just not the girl for me,
I know it might be wrong but oh oh
(I know it might be wrong)
I'm in love with (Stacy's mom oh oh)

    Stacy's Mom
  • This song tells the story of a kid who has developed a huge crush on his friend's super-hot mom. Adam Schlesinger , songwriter and bassist for Fountains of Wayne, revealed in our interview that the track was actually inspired by a friend who was, curiously, attracted to Adam's grandmother: "Well, one of my best friends told me that he thought my grandmother was really hot, that added a little bit to the song. That's a true story. And my grandmother was pretty hot."
  • Schlesinger told us he had Simon & Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson " in the back of his mind when he penned "Stacy's Mom": "It was a contrast of that story against a track that sounded like '80s new wave, like The Cars or something."

The Cars' influence is obvious - just compare the intro of their track, "Just What I Needed ," to the intro of "Stacy's Mom" to hear for yourself.
  • This song was a commercial success and reached #1 on iTunes' Most Downloaded Songs chart. In 2004, it was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Vocal Pop Performance. Adam Schlesinger told us "Stacy's Mom" "is definitely the biggest of my own band stuff." Schlesinger added to Bullz-Eye.com that he does not think Fountains of Wayne will achieve the same level of success they did with "Stacy's Mom" ever again: "I think 'Stacy's Mom' was a fluke thing where it was the right song and the right video, and you kind of had the novelty factor, and all that stuff. And you can't really make that happen again."
  • Actress and model, Rachel Hunter, portrayed Stacy's mom in the song's official video - directed by Chris Applebaum. Parts of the video bear a striking resemblance to the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High. At one point in the movie, a character named Brad is in a bathroom fantasizing about his sister's friend and the friend walks in on him. His sister's name, coincidentally, is Stacy .
  • The song featured in a commercial for the Cadillac SRX , which shows a woman picking up her daughter from school. As she does so, men gaze longingly at her "beautifully practical and practically beautiful" …car.

    Times Like These Lyrics

    I, I'm a one way motorway
I'm the one that drives away
    Then follows you back home
    I, I'm a street light shining
I'm a wild light blinding bright
    Burning off alone

It's Times Like These you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again

    I, I'm a new day rising
    I'm a brand new sky
To hang the stars upon tonight
    I am a little divided
Do I stay or run away
    And leave it all behind?

It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again

    Times Like These
  • At the time, Dave Grohl called this "The best song I've ever written." The rousing track became a live favorite for the band, and one of five songs in their set when they performed at the Live Earth concert at Wembley Stadium in London, to a crowd of about 80,000.
  • The song finds Dave Grohl at a crossroads, but confident he will find the right path. The One by One sessions were a slog, and they made him question the band's future:

    I am a little divided
Do I stay or run away
    And leave it all behind?

But then he assures himself that these trials are for the best, as he will emerge stronger:

It's times like these you learn to live again
  • The Foo Fighters performed this song on the February 22, 2003 episode of Saturday Night Live. During the performance, Jim Carrey ran onto the stage, strummed his leg like a guitar, and then dove offstage.
  • This song was used at some of George W. Bush's presidential campaign rallies in 2004. Dave Grohl never wanted to get involved in politics, but since he despised Bush, he decided to campaign for Bush's rival in the election, John Kerry.

"I was personally offended that George Bush was using 'Times Like These,'" Grohl said. "I know what I'm singing about and it basically mirrored what John Kerry's campaign was trying to represent.

Stirred into action, Grohl joined Kerry on some of his campaign stops, typically performing some acoustic songs before Kerry spoke. The experience had a profound effect on Grohl and inspired many of the songs that would end up on the next Foo Fighters album, In Your Honor which was named in tribute to Kerry.

    Sugar We're Going Down Lyrics

    Sugar We're Going Down
  • This song has a hint of jealousy in it. The singer wants to be this girl's boyfriend, but he's not. "I'm just a notch in your bedpost but you're just a line in a song" indicates that he means nothing to her, and he's trying to make it seem like she means the same to him. But it's not working too well. The chorus is about their relationship failing miserably in "an earlier round" because they don't even have a relationship. "I'll be your number one with a bullet, a loaded God complex cock it and pull it" means that she might as well be killing him because he hurts so much.
  • The name of the album comes from a book about a bull that doesn't fight in the ring, but just sits under the cork tree and smells the sweet fragrance. This used to be a favorite story book of band member Andy Hurley. The title also provides a clever acronym: FUCT.
  • The lyrics, "I'll be your number one with a bullet" is a play on words. "With a bullet" is a term for when a song is climbing up the music charts at a rapid rate - the Billboard charts would put an image of a bullet next to the song to indicate this. But when you're "number one with a bullet," there is nowhere to go but down.
  • Fall Out Boy bass player Pete Wentz wrote the lyrics. In 2006, he told Rolling Stone magazine: "I wrote the lyrics in Chicago. I was with my dad, and we were listening to the old music where they'd always say 'sugar' and 'honey' - stuff like that. I was like, 'Why doesn't anyone do that anymore?' Be we really locked it down in California. It was the day before the new Taking Back Sunday record came out. I remember calling those guys to say congrats."
  • This was Fall Out Boy's breakthrough single, however in a 2009 interview, Wentz told Spin magazine that the record label doubted its potential. He recalled: "That chorus was a throw away. Our label told us the chorus was too wordy and the guitars were too heavy and that the radio wasn't going to play it. I felt so good when that song broke."

    Monday you sent me flowers
    Tuesday made me feel stupid
    Wednesday the world was ours
    Thursday you didn’t prove it
    Friday fell back in love
    Saturday we didn't talk
Sunday you said you needed space

Do you miss me? Am I crazy?
Am I losing hold of your love baby?
Either you want me or you don't
I need to know, I need to know

    Who Are You today?
    Will you be the sun
    Or the pouring rain?
    Who are you tomorrow?
    Will you make me smile
    Or just bring me sorrow?
    Who are you gonna be
When I'm lost and I'm scared?
    Who are you gonna be
    When there's nobody there?
    Who are you today?
'Cause I am still the same

    Monday you had my heart
    Tuesday you had me screaming
    Wednesday we didn't part
    Thursday you didn't mean it
    Friday I shook it off
    Saturday you got it wrong
Sunday I said I needed space

Do you miss me? Am I crazy?
Am I losing hold of your love baby?
Either you want me or you don't
I need to know, I need to know

    Who are you today?
    Will you be the sun
    Or the pouring rain?
    Who are you tomorrow?
    Will you make me smile
    Or just bring me sorrow?
    Who are you gonna be
When I'm lost and I'm scared?
    Who are you gonna be
    When there's nobody there?
    Who are you today?
'Cause I am still the same

Who are you? Who are you?

It's so strange how the same thing
Can make you feel so right
And bring you so much pain.
It's so strange how the same face
Can you make you love until it hurts.
Where do we go? (where do we go?)
I need to know (I need to know)

    Who are you today? (today)
    Will you be the sun
Or the pouring rain? (the pouring rain)
    Who are you tomorrow?
    Will you make me smile
    Or just bring me sorrow?
    Who are you gonna be
When I'm lost and I'm scared?
    Who are you gonna be
    When there's nobody there?
    Who are you today? (today)

  • This emotional ballad is a track from Better Together, the debut EP by Fifth Harmony. Dinah Jane Hansen recalled the laying down of the Julian Bunetta produced track to MTV News. "We all came into the studio separately recording it," she said. "And then when Julian put the finishing touches to it and we all heard it, the first time we heard it we were all sobbing, and then we knew that's the one."
  • Camila Cabello explained the song's meaning: "It's a subject matter though that isn't really... It's not a generic subject matter," she said. "It's not a sad love song. It's not like boy doesn't like me back. It's like an actual bipolar relationship."

  • DJ/producers Fatboy Slim and Riva Starr enlisted beatboxer Beardyman to provide the vocal hook for this banger. Beardyman's real name is Darren Foreman. He came up with his moniker after quickly needing a nickname for a flyer for an early show, at a time when he'd grown a beard.
  • The song was inspired by a strange encounter in New York. "Me and Riva were out vinyl shopping in Williamsburg, Brooklyn earlier this year when we met this dude ranting in the street about some 3-day bender he had been on," recalled Fatboy, "We hooked him into our serato and chopped him up into a tune. I just wish we'd caught his full name."
  • The song's remix by Calvin Harris was released on October 27, 2013 in the United Kingdom as the single, with the original version being included on the EP. It became Fatboy Slim's first Biritish Top 10 hit since "Star 69" in 2001 and Riva Starr's debut UK chart entry.
  • In 2006 Beardyman became UK Beatbox Champion. When he retained his title the following year, he became the first beatboxer in UK history to win two championships in a row.
  • The song's music video features 250 contestants in a marathon dance endurance contest. Fatboy Slim said of the clip, "I take off my hat and trousers to everyone who competed. It was brutal, it was emotional and no-one died."

The Devil In The Wishing Well Lyrics

I met Jane at the center of the earth
It was dark there was dirt all around
But I gather you can figure that

And Jane says, "I'm your body in the night
And I'll lead you where you might find yourself
    Better if you follow me"

So go right you'll be left at a big hotel
You'll meet the Devil at the bottom of a wishing well
You know you better give him something
    Give him something good
    Like everybody else he's misunderstood

Jane says, "It's a long way out
But I'm gonna make it out
    'Cause I'm about her"

See Jane says, "You're as holy as a ghost
But who loves you the most, if you offer
I might let you carry me"

And Jane there's nobody here but yourself
In the end it's the wealth of your spirit
Now hurry up get on with it

I went left, I got right at some big hotel
There was a Devil at the bottom of the wishing well
He said, "You better give me something
    Give me something good
    Like everybody else I'm misunderstood"

Jane says, "It's a long way out
    I'm gonna make it out
    'Cause I'm about

Jane says, "It's a long way out
    I'm gonna make it out
    I'm gonna make it out
    I'm gonna make it out"

I took a guess and cut a portion out of my heart
He said that's nowhere close enough but it's a damn good start
I wrote the secret that I buried on the wishing well wall
He said, "I've seen one it follows that I've seen them all"

We spoke of human destination in a perfect world
Derived the nature of the universe found it unfulfilled
As I took him in my arms he screamed, "I'm not insane
I'm just looking for someone to understand my pain"

    It's a long way out
    I'm gonna make it out
    It's a long way out
    I'm gonna make it out
    It's a long, it's a long way out

  • This appears to be about a woman helping her husband or boyfriend overcome his depression. When we asked Five for Fighting's John Ondrasik what led him to write the song, he replied: "Experience, observation, and a hope that people in the grasp can find their way out."
  • Around the time this was released, Five for Fighting's John Ondrasik explained on his website: "I recently played 'The Devil In The Wishing Well' to a very close friend of mine who has a history of self harming, etc. Anyway, she was deeply moved by the song and played it nonstop for days (no I really mean it!). Along with some friendly words of advice this song helped her to confide with her mum and subsequently has resulted in her being diagnosed with depression. That's Life, that's what people say
    You're riding high in April,
    Shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune,
When I'm back on top, back on top in June

I said, that's life, and as funny as it may seem
    Some people get their kicks,
    Stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down,
'Cause this fine old world it keeps spinnin' around

    I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
    A poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out
    And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself flat on my face,
I pick myself up and get back in the race

    That's life, I tell ya, I can't deny it,
    I thought of quitting, baby
But my heart just ain't gonna buy it
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try,
I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly

    I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
    A poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out
    And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself layin' flat on my face,
I just pick myself up and get back in the race

    That's life, that's life
    And I can't deny it
Many times I thought of cuttin' out but my heart won't buy it
But if there's nothing shakin' come here this July
I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball and die

    That's Life
  • The "scowl" in Sinatra's voice was a result of producer Jimmy Bowen telling Sinatra, after the recording session, to get out of his car and back in the studio to re-record the vocal. This made Frank VERY angry, which is evident in the song. That was the exact "feel" that Bowen wanted.
  • This very optimistic song was written by Dean Kay and Kelly Gordon. Kay became a successful music publisher, and Gordon made a mark as a producer. Sinatra had a lot of ups and downs in his personal and professional life, and this song was a great showcase for his spirit and resilience. The phrase "That's Life" is often used to convey disappointment, but here Sinatra sees all the good things that life brings.
  • This was one of two Sinatra songs - the other being "Strangers in the Night" - prominently featured in the '80s comedy License to Drive. Les (Corey Haim) takes his crush (Heather Graham) out for a wild night in his grandpa's Cadillac, which has a Sinatra cassette stuck in the tape player. This song plays when Les and his friends frantically chase a drunk who steals the car for a joyride (and sings along to Sinatra's tune).

You know how I feel (ooh)
    Sun in the sky
You know how I feel (ooh)
    It's a new day
You know how I feel (ooh)

Yeah, I'm a new man, baby
Your other men probably should follow my blueprint, baby
Strap on your seat, and get ready to go
You know I've been filling BeatPort
3 million feet up in the sky full diamonds
I'm only beginning and I get the feeling
I'm behind the beat for the nighters
I got a few Miami Vices
I don't ever look at the prices
My super bowl ticket's are priceless
You know who the king of the night is
Beautiful music for you to go lower
You and your girl both work this pole
    Think I'm bipolar

    Birds flying high
You know how I feel (ooh)
    It's a new day
You know how I feel (ooh)
    Sun in the sky
You know how I feel (ooh)
    It's a new day
You know how I feel (ooh)

Where the feeling I get the throw up my pistols
From party, and bigger than life
    50 bottles of Luminis
24 kick, pop my dollars, wake up for the night
    Cameras flicking, I see me
You're fixing, I'm fixing my collar
    My natural high
She can get it, my whole click with it
No question, we are on the champion flight
This I roll ride, my passenger fly
We take off in London and land in the Dubai
This is a marriage, the music my ride
My life is so lavish, you don't recognize
So let's toast to a new day in Rochan
    80 million they still rollercoasting
What's the recipe to this devotion?
I got the melody, sober like vultures

    Oh-eh-oh
Who told y'all the party's over?
    Oh-eh-oh
Well, it ain't over till I told y'all
I fill my cup on and over
    Tomorrow I might be sober
    But oh, tonight, I'm like

    Baby, I

And we play our favorite songs
And we scream out all night long
    Like ooh oh
When it's just me and my girls

All the lights, turn them off
It's too loud in here to talk
    I don't understand a word you say

    Gotta sleep but instead
    Karaoke on the bed
Taking duck face selfies right and left

We get crazy with it, we get stupid with it
We don't care if people stare
And when we wobble with it

    We get diva on it
We get queen bee on it yeah
We get Britney, Demi, One Direction, Bieber on it

And we play our favorite songs
And we scream out all night long
    Like ooh oh
When it's just me and my girls
And we dance like no one's watching
    We crack up, booty poppin'
    Like ooh oh
When it's just me and my girls
    Watch me now
Me and my girls, me, me and my girls
Me and my girls, pop pop pop it pop it
Me and my girls, me, me and my girls
Me and my girls, pop pop pop it pop it

My voice is gone, got my favorite PJ's on
Times like this don't always come along
    You're all I need, there's nowhere I'd rather be
Then to have you crazy freaks with me

We get crazy with it, we get stupid with it
We don't care if people stare
And when we wobble with it

    We get diva on it
We get queen bee on it yeah
We get Britney, Demi, One Direction, Bieber on it

And we play our favorite songs
And we scream out all night long
    Like ooh oh
When it's just me and my girls
And we dance like no one's watching
    We crack up, booty poppin'
    Like ooh oh
When it's just me and my girls
    Watch me now
Me and my girls, me, me and my girls
Me and my girls, pop pop pop it pop it
Me and my girls, me, me and my girls
Me and my girls, pop pop pop it pop it

    Break it down
    Now break it down
    Now break it down
    Now break it down

    Break it down
    Now break it down
    Now break it down
    Now break it down

And we play our favorite songs
And we scream out all night long
    Like ooh oh
When it's just me and my girls
And we dance like no one's watching
    We crack up, booty poppin'
    Like ooh oh
When it's just me and my girls
    Watch me now.

    Me & My Girls
  • This was released as a promotional single from Fifth Harmony's debut EP, Better Together, reaching #104 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100.
  • Fifth Harmony's Lauren said during a performance on Live From MTV that each track on the EP "has a different kind of vibe to it." She added the overall concept is being yourself and OK with what you're feeling," "So if you're having a good day and want to go out with your girl and see a guy or whatever, 'Don't Wanna Dance Alone' and 'Me & My Girls,'" Lauren continued. "And then if you're having one of those days where you're in a relationship and it's hard, we have 'Who Are You.' So it's a teenage-girl little diary."

    Cyber Waste Lyrics

    Cyber Waste
  • Lead singer Burton Bell has said that this is one of the heaviest tracks Fear Factory has ever written. The song is about Internet chat rooms and how people talk, gossip and tell lies. They are wastelands where people say things they would never say if they met someone in person.
  • The video was shot in an abandoned warehouse in Australia with loads of Fear Factory fans. They thought they had permission to shoot the video but didn't and managed to get vital shots before the police came in and kicked them all out.
