You Won't See Me Lyrics

When I call you up
Your line's engaged
I have had enough
So act your age
We have lost the time
That was so hard to find
And I will lost my mind
If You Won't See Me
You won't see me

I don't know why
You should want to hide
But I can't get through
My hands are tied
I won't want to stay
I don't gave much to say
But I can't turn away
And you won't see me
You won't see me

Time after time
You refuse to even listen
I wouldn't mind
If I knew what I was missing
Though the days are few
They're filled with tears
And since I lost you
It feels like years
Yes, it seems so long
Girl, since you've been gone
And I just can't go on
If you won't see me
You won't see me

Time after time
You refuse to even listen
I wouldn't mind
If I knew what I was missing
Though the days are few
They're filled with tears
And since I lost you
It feels like years
Yes, it seems so long
Girl, since you've been gone
And I just can't go on
If you won't see me
You won't see me

  • Paul McCartney wrote this about his tumultuous 5-year relationship with the actress Jane Asher. He wrote it one night after she had walked out. (thanks, Adrian - Wilmington, DE)
  • Up to this point, McCartney wrote lots of "Silly Love Songs. This was a departure lyrically, as the song was more personal and mature, and also a little bitter, which reflects how he felt about his relationship with Jane Asher. Another Rubber Soul song, "I'm Looking Through You," is also about Asher and is similarly scathing. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)
  • A cover version by the country singer Anne Murray hit #8 US in 1974.
  • Mal Evans, The Beatles road manager, played the Hammond organ.
  • This was recorded in two takes. In their early years, The Beatles did so many live shows that they had no trouble recording quickly.
  • The melody for the Chicago hit "Saturday In The Park" is based on this song.

  • Trip Lee explained the story behind this song to Artist Direct : "I think everybody, no matter where they are, feels some sense of the things they do which they know are wrong but try to get away from but can't. Part of it is saying, 'Man, I want to get away from the things I know I shouldn't do.'"

"Even more specifically, I'm thinking of the enemy and evil, which tries to pull me in. I'm writing that to the devil, 'I know you want to pull me in these directions. I hear what you're saying, but I don't believe you. You're lying, and I don't need that.' We all make decisions off things we know is the truth. That's a call, which a lot of people can relate to. I don't want to be deceived by these lies anymore. I want to live the way I was made to live."

  • John Lennon decided to play this "as a march," whereas the Gene Vincent version is much softer. A softer version can be heard on Anthology 3.
  • Most songs The Beatles covered were '50s R&B hits, but this was a 1927 pop hit that the fab four liked. (thanks, Loretta - Liverpool, England, for above 2)

The Return of Jimi Hendrix Lyrics

    I dreamed about Jimi Hendrix
He came back for one day
Was born weepin' out of an egg
    The mid-wife said
And straight away began to pray
    With lifted head

    He spent the early hours
    Communing with the morning stars
And then he came over to my house
Where he tried out my guitar

He was young and black and beautiful
    Big eyed, perfect skin an'
He played my guitar like a lightning storm
Like twirlin' feathers in the wind
He could make it sound like the end of the world
A fire, the flick of a knife
He could squeeze it slow and masterful
Like the hand that brought the world to life

Together we strolled in sculptured gardens
    Passed the sleepy afternoon
Maids were dartin' back and forth
From a window came a violin tune
Angels, dressed as nurses toyed with playin' cards
Looters sprung from prisons filled the yard

A yellow sun hung low and dawned,
    And as it dipped
    Jimi stood up straight, grinned
    And shook his velvet hips

    Callin' himself King Electric
In the evening he went wild
    Played on a dozen stages
In the clubs of New York -
Lit the city end to end
Wired it up, fired it up
    Scarved, bejewelled, long-legged, snake-limbed
    Athletic, driven, dangerous

    He made all Manhattan shake
And every street and sidewalk quake
His stratocaster caused the mighty Empire State
    To vibrate
His whammy bar caused shock-eyed punks from
    Hackensack and Yonkers
Raised on speed, metal and rap
    To enter trance and levitate

He played Purple Haze and Pyramid,
    Voodoo Child and Sin-E,
Up From the Skies and Storm Free
    In King Tut's Wah-Wah hut

    He did a forty-two minute
    Cosmic rise I

    Real Love Lyrics

All my little plans and schemes,
    Lost like some forgotten dreams,
Seems that all I really was doing
    Was waiting for you.

Just like little girls and boys,
    Playing with their little toys.
Seems like all they really were doing
    Was waiting for love.

    Don't need to be alone,
    No need to be alone.
    It's Real Love, it's real.
Yes it's real love, it's real.

From this moment on I know
Exactly where my life will go.
Seems that all I really was doing
    Was waiting for love.

    Don't need to be afraid,
    No need to be afraid.
    It's real love, it's real.
Yes it's real love, it's real.

Thought I'd been in love before,
But in my heart, I wanted more.
Seems like all I really was doing
    Was waiting for you.

    Don't need to be alone,
    Don't need to be alone.
    It's real love, it's real.
    It's real love, it's real.
Yes it's real love, it's real.
    It's real love, it's real.

  • This was an unfinished song written by John Lennon that was completed by the remaining Beatles. It was the second "new" release for the Anthology 2 album ("Free As A Bird" was the first). Yoko Ono supplied Lennon's demos and gave the remaining Beatles permission to use them.
  • Jeff Lynne from The Electric Light Orchestra put this together. He has produced albums for George Harrison and played with him in The Traveling Wilburys.
  • Lennon recorded his demo on a small tape recorder, which posed a challenge when Lynne tried to mix it with updated tracks. He was able to use a noise reduction system to improve the sound. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)
  • Paul McCartney did his best John Lennon imitation to help the lead vocal because the recording of John's voice was low and spotty in some places. The lead vocal is actually a John and Paul duet. (thanks, Glen - Dallas, TX)
  • This is the only Beatles song where the songwriting credit is John Lennon alone instead of Lennon-McCartney or all four Beatles. (thanks, Glen - Dallas, TX)

All the things I see in you
All the things I know that are true
And when the light in the morning
    Comes shining through

    I see, I see

    [Chorus]
    I see the sun shining
    Down on Me
I feel the heat of love's flame
    Down on me
I love the thought of you comin'
    Down on me
And I'm so wet from love raining
    Down on me

Down on me, down on me

All the things you mean to me
All the things I want us to be
And when the man in the moon
    Looks straight at you

    I see, oh I see

    [Chorus]

And you're a new kinda way
    That's getting stranger every day
Get on the good foo and keep it on top
One thing for certain, it ain't ever gonna stop

  • Written by Jackyl lead singer Jesse James Dupree , there is little doubt what he has in mind on this track. The "heat of love's flame" is a common theme for Dupree, as he often writes in double entendre.
  • A track from the first Jackyl album, Jesse James Dupree wrote it before the band got their record deal. At the time, the band's future was in question, as Dupree - a new father - was planning to leave the group and get a new job. Around this time, he ran into Steve Walsh of Kansas at a party, and Walsh suggested they write together.

Dupree took him seriously and wrote "Down On Me" as a Kansas song, hoping Walsh would work on it and record it with his band. Dupree never heard from Walsh, so he made it a Jackyl song. When John Kalodner signed Jackyl to Geffen Records, Dupree played him this song, and Kalodner introduced a surprise guest. In our interview with Dupree, he told the story:

"Steve Walsh walked into the rehearsal room that we were at in Atlanta, just totally coincidentally out of nowhere. He said hello to John Kalodner, and John was going, 'Look, guys, this is the legendary Steve Walsh. Look at this, can you believe it?'

And so Walsh ends up leaving, and Kalodner goes, 'That's pretty cool. Steve Walsh comes in here and says hey.' And I said, 'Yeah. You know that song that you said you liked? The 'Down On Me' song? I wrote that for him and he blew me off.' And Kalodner goes, 'You know what the moral to that story is? You've got a hit, he don't.' And we just took it home from there."
  • The music video, directed by Greg Vernon, took a swing at the practice of labeling certain albums "explicit" and making it illegal to sell them to minors. In the clip, rock music ends up getting sold on the black market.

There's a Girl in Texas Lyrics

When I rode out of Dallas
    Chasing down a dream
I thought I knew what I was looking for
But the neon nights have blinded me
    'Til I'm lost in Tennessee
Not sure I know who I am anymore, but

    There's a Girl in Texas
    There's a girl in Texas
    There's a girl in Texas
    That does

    You're a truly lovely lady
And you sure light up the night
I'm a lonely man but I'm leaving here alone
I won't try to lie to you
    About this heart of mine
That I can't give, that I don't really own, 'cause

    There's a girl in Texas
    There's a girl in Texas
    There's a girl in Texas
    That does

  • On his Live Country! DVD, recorded on August 1, 2014 at The Paramount in Huntington, New York, Adkins said this was his "new favorite old song." Telling the story behind it, he said: "In 1992 I moved to Nashville, Tennessee. I'd been living in Dallas, playing honky-tonks out there in Texas. Fast forward to 1994, and I'm trying to get a record deal with Capitol Records. The guy says, 'Is there a girl in Texas?' I said, 'Hell yeah there's a girl in Texas. There's a bunch of girls.' He said, 'Write me a song about it.'"

With that in mind, Adkins came up with this song about leaving Texas - and in many ways his identity - behind. He knows that no matter what happens, there's a girl back in Texas who gets him.
  • Adkins' reality was a little different than what he sings about in this song. He moved to Nashville at the urging of his second wife, who wanted to put some distance between them and his first wife. Around the same time, he got a call from his former booking agent, who urged him to pursue his music career.
  • This was Adkins first single; it made a respectable showing on the Country chart, peaking at #20. He would go on to become one of the biggest names in the business, selling over 10 million albums.
  • Adkins wrote this song with Vip Vipperman, whose credits include "1982" by Randy Travis and "Sideways" by Darryl Worley.
  • The video did very well on CMT and helped launch Adkins' career. It was directed by Michael Merriman, who also did the clips for "Boot Scootin' Boogie" by Brooks & Dunn and "If I Lost You" by Travis Tritt.

  • The line "In the end the love you take is equal to the love you make" is essentially the Beatles closing statement. It is the last lyric on the last album they recorded. Let It Be was the last album they released, but it was recorded earlier.
  • This starts over the end of "Carry That Weight," and is the last song in a suite at the end of the Abbey Road album.
  • Lennon, McCartney and Harrison took turns doing guitar solos. If you listen closely, you can hear how the styles change from one to the other. This is the only time in the Beatles' history that they traded riffs. (thanks, Matt - Lancaster, PA)
  • The phrase "Love You" is repeated 24 times.
  • On this song, you can hear the only drum solo Ringo Starr ever performed as a Beatle. He hated solos and had to be persuaded to do it, with McCartney convincing him that the drum fill was necessary as a transition. Ringo later said that he could never re-create the solo if he tried.
  • This ends with a 30-piece orchestra.
  • When Paul McCartney was on Saturday Night Live, he did the skit "Chris Farley's Talk Show," in which Chris was really nervous to be talking to a Beatle, and you can see it from his disheveled look, sweat, and stuttering. One funny part is when Chris asks, "Do you remember when you said 'in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make?'" To which Paul responds "yes" in such a serious, and slightly irritated, way that you can't help but laugh. (thanks, Natasha - Chico, CA)
  • According to Geoff Emerick who engineered the album, the guitar solos are in this order; Paul, George, and John. Paul wanted to go first and John wanted to go last. (thanks, Phil - New Britain, CT)

    To shut this thing down
    But for now

  • This song is about life on the road, mentioning several places a country singer might play on any given night (Pascagoula, Baton Rouge...). Introducing the song on his 2015 Live Country! DVD, Adkins says, "It's always a privilege to get in front of country music fans. Thank you for allowing me to do this. This is a song about what we do. We got the best job in the world: we travel around this country, we see all these beautiful cities, all these beautiful people. That's what this song talks about."

    Golden Slumbers Song Chart
  • This song was based on a 17th century poem by Thomas Dekker called Golden Slumbers Kiss Your Eyes:

    Golden slumbers kiss your eyes
Smiles awake you when you rise
Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry
And I will sing a lullaby
    Rock them, rock them, lullaby
Care is heavy, therefore sleep you
You are care, and care must keep you
Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry
And I will sing a lullaby
    Rock them, rock them, lullaby
  • Paul McCartney wrote this on his stepsister's piano. He saw the song "Golden Slumbers" in her songbook and, unable to read music, made up his own using most of the original lyrics.
  • According to Mark Lewisohn's The Beatles Recording Sessions, McCartney recorded this song on July 2, 1969, a day after Lennon suffered injuries from a car accident in Scotland that left him in a hospital until July 6th. So Lennon did not perform on this song. George Harrison played bass guitar as Paul was playing piano.
  • Recorded as one song with "Carry That Weight," this is part of a suite of songs at the end of Abbey Road. It was the last album The Beatles recorded, although it was released before Let It Be.

    Maintenance Man Song Chart
  • Not to be confused with Toby Keith's "High Maintenance Woman," this lascivious scorcher is one of the more blues-inflected songs in Adkins canon. It finds him telling a girl that he can satisfy her every need in the bedroom.

On his 2015 Live Country! DVD, Adkins explained: "I was talking to a guy, and he said, 'I bet that girl is high maintenance.' I said, 'I don't have a problem with that - I'm your maintenance man, baby. I'll take care of you.'"
  • Adkins says this is one of the "nastiest" songs he's ever written. "It's a little embarrassing to sing in front of your mama," he adds.
