I Can't Dance Song Chart

Genesis wrote this song in the studio in one session. "Once we started we kept going 'til we finished it," Phil Collins said in the documentary Genesis: Sum of the Parts. "It didn't take a ridiculous time to write."

The lyrics are made up of bits that Phil Collins improvised in the studio. When they started working on it, they decided to just write spontaneously to keep from over-thinking it. This explains the rather disjointed story about a guy who can't dance and is "just standing here selling."

Helmed by their go-to director Jim Yukich, the video created a lasting image thanks to the "silly walk" the three band members did. This walk was something Phil Collins did from time to time - he got the idea for it when he attended drama school and noticed that the worst dancers would always lead with the hand and foot on the same side. There is a twist ending in the video when at the end, Phil Collins does some Michael Jackson dance moves and an impressive little tap routine.

In our interview with Tony Banks , he explained that having a lead singer who was comfortable in front of the camera made the music videos much easier to create. "It gave us a chance to explore some quite fun ideas," he said. "When the lyric had an obvious way to go - with something like "I Can't Dance" or "No Son of Mine" - you could do it and express it quite well."

Dylan recorded this in New York City with a talented group of studio musicians including Al Kooper and Charlie Daniels. Ron Cornelius, who played guitar on these sessions, told us that Dylan would play down the song, but as soon as they started recording he would play it in a completely different tempo, which threw off the musicians but forced them to play to their strengths. These sessions lasted about 3 weeks, with the best songs going on this album and many of the others ending up on his 1973 self-titled album Dylan.

This is based on a 1951 Hank Williams song of the same title. It's about a guy whose travels take him to many places, and he takes life as it comes.

Allmans guitarist Dickey Betts wrote this in the house the band shared in Macon, Georgia. Betts sang lead on this track.

Jessica is the name of guitarist Dickey Betts' daughter. He was working on this song when she crawled into the room and inspired him. Jessica Betts was born May 14, 1972 - she was one year old when her dad wrote the song.

"'Flor D'Luna' by Santana, 'Jessica' by the Allman Brothers - these songs don't need words because that lead guitar is doing the talking and the singing. It's a strong enough melody to stand on its own. Words over that wouldn't make sense because it's already doing the speaking."

Carrie Underwood co-wrote this song with Chris DeStefano ("Good Girl," "Something in the Water") and Hillary Lindsey ("Jesus, Take The Wheel," "Last Name," "Two Black Cadillacs.") The tune is about the effect that parents' falling out has on their children.

"There's these characters in the song and there's a little girl and she hears her parents fighting, as unfortunately a lot of kids do," Underwood explained to Country Vibe . "So it's basically her saying, in her words, 'I wish their words weren't real. I wish they were like little toy guns and they didn't hurt you.'"

Underwood penned the lyrics from her personal observations. "I've seen it first hand from different people in my life and seen how the tumultuous parental relationship between each other can affect a child," she said. "So that's kind of what it's about, but it's a really tempo-driven song as well, so it's kind of a bit of a juxtaposition as far as the story content and the music… It sounds rockin', but it has a positive message."

Underwood spoke about the song during an interview with Chicago's US99.5. "It's about words," she explained. "It's about a child hearing her parents fighting. Even at a young age she realizes how much they hurt. And she wishes they were plastic and fake, like toys, and they didn't actually cause any damage."

The song's music video was directed by P.R. Brown, who previously collaborated with Underwood on her "Two Black Cadillacs" clip. It stars Grace Rundhaug, who played Marta alongside Underwood in 2014's The Sound of Music Live! television special

Brown pitched to Underwood the concept of a storybook land-themed visual where the young girl could be the hero, an idea which the songstress loved. Underwood then suggested Grace Rundhaug for the part of the girl. "Whenever I thought of the types of things I wanted to see in this video, I just saw her face," she stated.

The song developed from a basic form that Chris DeStefano brought into the writing session with Carrie Underwood and Hillary Lindsey. "I had this musical idea - the track, basically," he recalled to Taste of Country . "I kinda brought that in, and I might have even had some of the parts kinda moved around. I remember playing it for Carrie and Hillary, and they both really reacted to it. I remember Hillary saying, 'I love that riff that you're doing in the verse there, you should move that to the main intro riff, that would be awesome.'"

Lindsey also suggested a title, "Wooden Guns." "We kinda talked about what it could mean, and we kept throwing ideas out," DeStefano remembered. "And Carrie said, 'What if we called it 'Little Toy Guns'? And it just took it to a different level, I think, when we hit that. It felt right, and once we had that direction, we had more than enough to hang the song on."

The first single from The Young OG Project is a street track named after a term that will be new to many. "This is a word that I've been hearing floating around and I thought, why not make a song out of it?' It's really about a situation that can get lit," Fabolous explained to MTV News.

"You can come into a situation and it can be [calm] and you can turn it up and get it a little lit," he added. "It's a very aggressive New York street record and I wanted to start with that just to get the feel, and get you there first, [then] the rest of the album will take you different places."

The song's music video was directed by Gerald Victor, who has also worked with Wiz Khalifa, Black Milk and Royce Da 5'9 and was shot in the rapper's native Brooklyn. The clip was inspired by the 1990 film King of New York and finds Fabolous channelling Christopher Walken's ruthless mob boss character Frank White.
