This is about an unemployed steelworker in Youngstown, Ohio. Most people think that Bruce is singing this song to a woman named Jenny ("my sweet Jenny I'm sinkin' down" etc.), but "Jenny" is the nickname given to the Blast Furnace at Youngstown steelworks - The Jeanette Blast Furnace (named after the daughter of W.A. Thomas, who was the President of Brier Hill Steel). It's common practice at steelworks to have nicknames for blast furnaces - for example, at Scunthorpe steelworks in the UK the four furnaces are known as Bess, Victoria, Anne and Mary (after 4 Queens of England/Britain). The fact that Bruce's character is singing to the furnace, rather than a person, changes the song considerably. (thanks, Alex - Newport, Scotland)

Springsteen wrote this as part of a series of songs on The Ghost Of Tom Joad where one character develops into another.

This revisits a common Springsteen theme: the division between the wealthy and the working class.

The Foo Fighters recorded each track for Sonic Highways in a different US city. This tune was recorded in New Orleans' Preservation Hall, the Big Easy's home of jazz.

The Pulse of Radio asked Foo bassist Nate Mendel which of the city's that the band visited was his favorite. "It's New Orleans, 'cause it's such a unique town and we — we just had fun there really, is what it came down to," he replied. "It wasn't a studio, we were in the Preservation Hall, which seems like it's a movie set — it doesn't even seem like a real building. And yeah, we just did things that like are so far out of our normal orbit of experience as a band."

This song features Preservation Hall Jazz Band who opened the Foo Fighters' surprise show at New Orleans' Preservation Hall in May 2014.

Recorded in 1982 at the Born In The USA sessions, this was remixed by Bob Clearmountain in 1994 and finally released the next year on Greatest Hits.

At one time this was going to be the title track to Springsteen's 1984 album. He decided on Born In The USA instead.

Springsteen performed this in concert years before it was released.

The title was taken from a 1960 movie starring Peter Falk. Springsteen also got the title for his song "Badlands" from a movie.

The video was directed by Jonathan Demme. Springsteen wrote "Streets Of Philadelphia" for Demme's movie, Philadelphia, a year earlier.

The E-Street Band performed together for the first time in 7 years at the shoot for this video. They played it 6 times during the shoot at Tramps in New York.

Brooks calls this Craig Campbell, Brice Long and Terry McBride penned tune the "perfect Garth Brooks song." He explained: "We're lucky enough to travel around the world playing music, but the first thing I'll tell anybody [is] … 'Hey dude, I'm American.' I'm not gonna to change to fit your format. We're not going to lose the steels, we're not going to lose the fiddles. We're going to do what we do. And that's country music with muscle in it. And I gotta tell ya, 'All-American Kid' is exactly that, just Garth Brooks country music with a hell of a lot of muscle."

This is the first time that another artist has recorded one of Craig Campbell's tunes. "I write for myself, of course, but I've never had an outside cut," he told Country Weekly. "For the first one to be Garth, well, that's pretty amazing. He probably listens to thousands of songs."

The performance of this song at the 2015 ACM Awards was introduced by Taya Kyle, the widow of the late Chris Kyle of American Sniper fame. As Brooks sung the tune, a number of US servicemen and servicewomen filed in through the audience while fireworks blasted off on the video screens.

Craig Campbell told The Boot the story of the song. "When I wrote it, it was just an idea that I had, and I thought it was the greatest comeback story of all time," he recalled. "I heard about this guy coming back from the war, so we wrote the song, and I was going to put it on my new record through Bigger Picture, but then they closed."

"And then we heard that Garth wanted to record it. I'm not going to tell Garth 'no,'" Campbell continued. "I didn't really believe it until I got a call that they wanted me to come hear the album. The first time I heard 'All-American Kid' with Garth singing it, Garth was standing right over my shoulder while I listened. It was one of those 'This is not real. Someone wake me up' moments."

This song was co-penned by Garth Brooks with Bryan Kennedy. The Louisiana native previously collaborated with the country star on his hit singles "Good Ride Cowboy," "The Beaches of Cheyenne," and "American Honky Tonk Bar Association."

According to Brooks, the song title says it all. "It's a cowboy's look at Shakespeare and his work," he explained. "It's a love story between a young lady and a sport she loves: rodeo."

The song has a definite swing influence. "I haven't heard swing in a million years," said Brooks, "and it feels so fresh on this record."

Rodeo contests began in the early days of the cattle industry when men gathered in cow towns at roundup time. Following the American Civil War, rodeo competitions emerged, with the first held in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1872.

In 1882 a rodeo sponsored by Buffalo Bill Cody at North Platte, Nebraska., attracted 1,000 contestants. Its success prompted Cody to open his traveling Wild West show.

The first professional rodeo, which charged admission and awarded trophies was held on July 4, 1881 in Prescott, Arizona.

Springsteen wrote this and gave it to filmmaker Paul Schrader for his 1987 movie starring Michael J. Fox and Joan Jett as a brother and sister who lead a garage band. In 1982 Schrader sent Springsteen a script for a movie called Born In The U.S.A., hoping he would take a role in the film. Bruce declined, but used the title and thanked Schrader on the album's liner notes.

Michael J. Fox and Joan Jett performed this in the movie. The song was released as a single credited to "The Barbusters" (the name of the group in the film) and it hit #33 in the US. In the movie, the song is a duet with Fox and Jett, but the single was just Jett accompanied by her band, The Blackhearts. Some clever editing was done for the video to show Michael J. Fox but never see him sing.

On this version, Benmont Tench of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers played Hammond organ.

This is one of Springsteen's live favorites. He often performs an inspirational extended version, preaching lines like "I can not offer you eternal life, but I can offer you life right now."

Bruce performed this at a 1992 concert for MTV. Part of their "Unplugged" series, Springsteen insisted on playing electric and calling it "Plugged." The set was released as an album in England.

The title was used as the name of a benefit concert Springsteen played at The Stone Pony, a small club in New Jersey, in 2000. Proceeds went to The Parkinson's Disease Foundation. Michael J. Fox, who starred in the movie Light Of Day, has Parkinson's.

Springsteen performed this with Joan Jett at two benefit concerts in New Jersey in 2001. Proceeds from the shows went to victims of the September 11 attacks.

In 2000, the Light of Day foundation was formed, taking its name from this song. Music impresario Bob Benjamin started the foundation after he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, with proceeds going toward the search for a cure. Benjamin organized a series of concerts to raise money, which proved very successful. Springsteen has performed at many of these events to lend his support.
