Bring Back the Music Lyrics

Ok so here we go
Give me that
Mhm, just like that
Yeah, that's starting to feel like music right there
Give me a lil something else
Let's take em, let's take em back

Won't you bring it back?
Won't you bring it back?
Yeah we'll bring it back, yeah we'll bring it back
Singing together, dancing in the street
Music playing, moving to the beat ooh
Back in the time, that music make me smiling
The song will change the weather, we can together
But somewhere along the lines we lost sight
And we made the music go away
Take away our joy and we started fighting
And before we lose another, today

Won't you save? And we'll bring it back? Say we'll bring it back
Gotta bring it back, gotta bring it back
Bring Back the Music, bring back the life
Bring back that feeling, feeling of love
(Let me talk to 'em)

Songs of freedom, it's music make you free
It makes you happy, gave you all you need
Back in the time, it was ok to love
Music said the words you couldn't think off
But somewhere along the lines we lost sight
And we made the music go away
Took away our joy and we started fighting
And before we lose another, today

Won't you save? And we'll bring it back? Say we'll bring it back
Gotta bring it back, gotta bring it back
Bring back the music, bring back the life
Bring back that feeling, feeling of love

Hey, hey, hey, hey
Bring back the music, oh bring back the music
Never let it go away (Bring it back)
Hey, hey, hey
We need the music, yeah we need the music
Won't you let the music play? (Let it play)
Hey, hey, hey, bring back the music, oh bring back the music
Never let it go away
Hey, hey, hey
We need the music, oh we need the music
Won't you let the music play? (Won't you let the music play)

  • This song was helmed at Jerry Wonda's studio by singer-songwriter and producer Kortney Pollard, who performs under the name of Mali Music. Pollard explained to The Boombox how he approached working with Hudson. "I wanted to approach it differently, I wanted to connect to her," he said. "I didn't want to be a person who [said], 'Hey this is a song that means a lot of me, but you can sing it!' I didn't want to come at it like that. I was explaining it to her, and she was just looking at me like, 'You are crazy!' I want you to talk to me, I want you to share your deepest ideas, just concepts you have for songs or something that you saw on TV that you thought was profound."

"I recorded a 20-minute audio clip on my phone of her just expressing herself, talking about it and I wrote all the songs from her thoughts and feelings," he continued. "I would structure it with music, use certain quotes that she would, she would put a twang on something, I'd put a twang on it in the song so when I re-presented it to her, they were her babies. None of them were foreign."

"I guess I'm the type of writer and producer that wants to bring back the true connection of what they want to say," Pollard concluded. "It's cool that you can tell an artist, 'Hey, I'm a robot I gotta sing this song, it's not really what I agree with.' It was really cool on songs like 'Bring Back the Music' and another one called 'Moan' that she wrote in tribute of her mother with all the crazy things that happened to her family, all the tragedy and loss she experienced."

    I'm A Slave 4 U Lyrics

I know I may be young, but I've got feelings too.
And I need to do what I feel like doing.
So let me go, and just listen.

All you people look at me like I'm a little girl.
Well did you ever think it'd be ok for me to step into this world.

Always saying little girl don't step into the club.
Well I'm just tryin' to find out why 'cause dancing's what I love.

Get it get it, get it get it (Oh)
Get it get it, get it get it (Oh)
Get it get it, get it get it (Oh)

I know I may come off quiet, I may come off shy.
But I feel like talking, feel like dancing when I see this guy.

What's practical is logical. What the hell, who cares?
All I know is I'm so happy when you're dancing there.

I'm a slave for you. I cannot hold it, I cannot control it.
I'm a slave for you. I won't deny it, I'm not trying to hide it.

Baby, don't you wanna, dance up on me,
(I just wanna dance next to you)
    To another time and place.
Oh baby, don't you wanna, dance up on me,
    (Are you ready)
Leaving behind my name, and age.
    (Lets go)

    (Like that)
    (You like it)
    (Now watch me)

Get it get it, get it get it (Oh)
Get it get it, get it get it (Oh)
Get it get it, get it get it (Oh)

I really wanna dance, tonight with you.
    (I just can't help myself)
I really wanna do what you want me to.
(I just feel I let myself go)

I really wanna dance, tonight with you.
    (Wanna see you move)
I really wanna do what you want me to.
But did you want me to.
    (Uh Uh Uh)

Baby, don't you wanna, dance up on me,
(I just wanna dance next to you)
    To another time and place.
Baby, don't you wanna, dance up on me,
    (Are you ready)
Leaving behind my name, and age.

I'm a slave for you (take that) I cannot hold it, I cannot control it.
I'm a slave (it just feels right) for you (it just feels good)
I won't deny it, I'm not trying to hide it (baby)

Get it get it, get it get it (Oh)
Get it get it, get it get it (Oh)
Get it get it, get it get it (Oh)

Get it get it, get it get it (Oh)
Get it get it, get it get it (Oh)
Get it get it, get it get it (Oh)

    [Panting]

I'm a slave for you (here we go now)
I cannot hold it, I cannot control it.
I'm a slave for you, (here we go) I won't deny it, (yeah)
I'm not trying to hide it.

  • This premiered on the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards. Spears wore a live snake during the performance, which was set to look like a jungle, complete with a caged tiger. Britney was the big VMA draw at the time and expected to do something outrageous. The previous year, she stripped off most of her clothes while performing "Satisfaction."
  • The "4U" is a Prince thing. He has many songs with numbers and capital letters in the titles, including "I Would Die 4U."
  • The hip-hop production team The Neptunes wrote and produced this track, which is about a lady who will do anything for her man. The Neptunes (Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo) were red hot in 2001, doing not just production work, but also remixes for the likes of Backstreet Boys and Daft Punk, and also recording with their group, N.E.R.D.
  • This was the first single off Spears' third album, which she named Britney because it was her most personal. Like her first two albums, it debuted at #1 in the US.
  • The chorus is "Get it get it, get it get it," although it sounds like "Kitty kitty, kitty kitty."

    Wild Child Lyrics

Looks like royal in a thrift store dress
Keeps my heart and her hair a mess
She goes where the wind suggests she goes, who knows
Got a spirit that can't be tamed
She's a calico pony on an open plain
I know I'll never be the same no more, for sure

    She's a Wild Child
Got a rebel soul with a whole lot of gypsy wild style
She can't be tied down but for a while
I'll be falling free and so in love
Might break my heart but God she drives me wild child

You've never heard of her favorite band unless you
Been to Bonnaroo or Burning Man
She's Penny Lane in a Chevy van, she loves to love

    She loves me wild child
Got a rebel soul with a whole lot of gypsy wild style
She can't be tied down but for a while
I'll be falling free and so in love
Might break my heart but God she drives me wild child

She'll be here until she runs
Some just have to chase the sun

    She's a wild child
Got a rebel soul with a whole lot of gypsy wild style
She can't be tied down but for a while
I'll be falling free and so in love
Might break my heart but God she drives me wild child

A kaleidoscope of colors in her mind child
A touch of crazy hides behind her wild smile
    So simple yet experimental
Innocent but still a little wild child

    Wild child

  • This song finds Chesney stepping away from the standard bro-country lyrical content that features girls as eye-fodder attired in barely-there clothes. "In the last several years, a lot of the songs about women have been written in kind of an objectifying way," he told Radio.com . "If you didn't wear cut-off jeans or a bikini top, or sit on a tailgate and drink, then you really weren't worthy, you didn't really add up."

"But 'Wild Child' is telling some girl out there that's got dreams, that's a free spirit," Chesney continued, "who's smart and interesting, that she has a chance, that she is worthy."
  • Chesney recruited Grace Potter to sing with him on this tune. The Nocturnals frontwoman previously collaborated with the country star on "You and Tequila" and "El Cerrito Place."

Chesney told Taste of Country he is astounded that his voice blends with Grace Potter's so perfectly. "It's weird that they do," the country star said. "She grew up in Vermont and I grew up in east Tennessee, and I never met Grace until we went into the studio to sing 'You and Tequila' together. And we both just kind of looked at each other and went, 'Where have you been all of our lives?'"
  • The song's music video was directed by Chesney's regular visual collaborator, Shaun Silva. The clip follows Chesney's free-spirited friend, songwriter Gretchen Rhodes, enjoying life on her home island of Hawaii. "Shaun really captured everything that makes Robin-and every woman just like her-and I know people get their music in so many different places," Chesney said.

"It is a song about any woman so hungry to engage life, she spends her days trying to taste it all," he added. "You don't have to be a gypsy to be a free spirit, but just someone so in love with life, you will never get enough. To see a woman like that is a pretty amazing thing."
  • The song was written by Kenny Chesney with Josh Osborne and Shane McAnally during a writing trip to the US Virgin Island of St. John. Osborne recalled to Taste of Country how Chesney proposed the song during the flight. "Kenny mentioned he wanted to write a song called 'Wild Child' that he thought would be this awesome idea of writing a different way about women. More about their spirit, not just how they look," he recalled.

The trio got the ball rolling on the song during the second morning of their trip. "I had my guitar and started messing with those chord changes, just trying to give it something interesting," Osborne continued. "We were just trying to color up the music a little bit, and Shane kinda fell onto that rhyming pattern of 'Wild child, got a rebel soul with a whole lot of gypsy. Wild style,' changing that second word so much and making 'wild' a big lyrical part of that. So we had kinda worked on that chorus for a half hour, hour or something like that, and had some pieces of it, and then went over."

"We played him what we had, and he loved it, and just jumped right in with both feet," he added. "He's a really, really good songwriter. He jumped right in and was really coloring up those verses, and the second he started singing the chorus, it just instantly sounded like a Kenny Chesney song. And then we thought, 'This might be something special.'"

"He recorded the song probably a week later. It was awesome," Osborne concluded. "We got to go into the studio for that and watch his process with Buddy Cannon. It was really a cool moment."

    Billion Dollar Babies Lyrics

    Billion dollar baby
Rubber little lady, slicker than a weasel
    Grimy as an alley
Loves me like no other lover
    Billion dollar baby
Rubber little monster, baby, I adore you
Man or woman living couldn't love me like you, baby

We go dancing nightly in the attic
While the moon is rising in the sky
If I'm too rough, tell me
I'm so scared your little head will come off in my hands

    Billion dollar baby
I got you in the dime store
No other little girl could ever hold you
Any tighter, any tighter than me, bay
    Billion dollar baby
Reckless like a gambler, million dollar maybe
Foaming like a dog that's been infected by the rabies

We go dancing nightly in the attic
While the moon is rising the sky
If I'm too rough, tell me
I'm so scared your little head will come off in my hands
    Million dollar baby
    Billion dollar bay
    Trillion dollar baby
    Zillion dollar baby

    Billion Dollar Babies Song Chart
  • This song is about the dangers of overindulgence. It came just as Cooper was getting famous and exposed to rock star excess, and accordingly it helped make him rich and famous. Alice used the cash to buy a house in Los Angeles and finance more elaborate stage shows and videos. He lived the rock star lifestyle for a while, but in later years settled into a very sensible upper class lifestyle, living in Arizona, playing lots of golf, and making shrewd business decisions. He never became a billionaire, but he did very well for himself.
  • Cooper and his band recorded this at a mansion in Greenwich, Connecticut, which is a very wealthy suburb of New York City. They rented it out to record the album. The song is credited as written by Cooper, his guitarist Michael Bruce, and a session guitarist they worked with named Reggie Vinson.
  • The Billion Dollar Babies album was re-released with new packaging as a DVD in 2000. It contains all the songs plus interviews and bonus tracks.
  • As part of his stage show, Cooper would mutilate dolls when he performed this song. The tour for the album introduced the props Cooper became famous for, including the guillotine, the snake, and hundreds of cans of beer.
  • This song took on new meaning when Cooper started playing at casinos in the '90s.
  • 1973 was the last year that Alice Cooper was recognized as a group, rather than just the lead singer. Since the singer, Vincent Furnier, drew most of the attention, many fans did not know the difference between him and the Alice Cooper Band. Muscle of Love was the last album as the group.

As lead singer Vincent Furnier became the known as Alice Cooper and sucked up all the notoriety the band received, the guitarist, bass player, and drummer from The Alice Cooper Band left and formed a group called The Billion Dollar Babies. They released an album called Battle Axe in 1977.
  • The background vocals were sung by Donovan of "Mellow Yellow" fame. According to Mojo magazine, Donovan was recording at Willesden's Morgan Studios around the same time as Alice and then got roped in on the latter's session.
  • Notwithstanding the sometimes grotesque subject matter, Cooper told Gibson.com that one of his main inspirations for the album was Chuck Berry. "[Berry] was my favorite lyricist," said Cooper. "When I first heard something like 'Nadine,' or 'Maybelline,' I understood those songs told a story. As the lyrics went along, you really got a picture of what was going on. He took the girl out; he couldn't get his seat belt off - things like that. I always wanted to write three-minute stories that were funny, or maybe not just funny, but also dramatic. The idea was to compact everything into three minutes, which is really hard to do."

If This Bus Could Talk Lyrics

He was there when I started,
    In Knoxville Tennessee
Hope none for patty and loveless,
    November of ninety-three

Full of friends, mom, and uncle Butch
And the crowd was really small
    He'd say I was a scared kid,
    If This Bus Could Talk

Some nights we'd dance with the devil
Some nights we'd pray to the Lord
Between vibrant passes and rubber arena glasses
    He was never really bored

    We were starry eyed dreamers,
    Bouncing off the wall
And all the stories he could tell,
    If this bus could talk

He'd sing of pool halls in Texas
And have a corn dog in county fair
    Girls that we made cry,
    Some crowds that didn't care

And Bobby road us down in Bama
He kept rocking through it all
All the stories he could tell,
    If this bus could talk

    Late night conversations,
    Full of drunk philosophy
    On politics and religion,
    Football and family

    The lovers that we missed,
And the lovers that we lost
All the secrets he could share
    If this bus could talk

    He'd seen Virginia Beach,
    Caught in a hurricane
He roads I wish I never met
    But he ain't naming names

We learned the code of the road at the grizzly rose
    When we had a bone
All the stories he could serve
    If this bus could talk

    Many years of summers,
And I hope it never ends
    Been down so many highways,
Full of twists and turns and bends

We caught lightning in a bottle,
    Somehow we survived it all
All the stories he could tell,
    If this bus could talk

    As I leave the stage,
    Still high from your applause
He'd tell you that I love you,
    If this bus could talk
    If this bus could talk

  • This was written and originally recorded by a the R&B guitarist Sticks McGhee, who adapted it from a chant he learned at Army boot camp. He first recorded it in 1947, but the song became a hit when McGhee signed with Atlantic Records and recorded it again in 1949. It became the first hit for Atlantic, which later was home to Led Zeppelin, Aretha Franklin, The Spinners and many others. A young Tom Dowd engineered the session and went on to produce The Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton, The Drifters and many others.
  • Fairly tame by today's standards, this was a particularly raucous song when Sticks McGhee recorded it in 1949. It's about getting drunk and not caring who knows it. The song was an early influence on Lewis and many other rock music pioneers.
  • Lewis performed this at his very first live appearance in 1949. The song was a good indicator of things to come for Lewis, as he sang about drinking despite a stern religious background that prohibited such behavior. Lewis became famous for his rowdy stage antics and sexually charged persona, as well as 6 marriages (including one to his 13-year-old second cousin) and a history of alcohol abuse.
  • An R&B version of this song became a chart success 15 years after Lewis' initial success.
  • The album includes many British rockers, like Alvin Lee of Ten Years After and Peter Frampton.

    Born In Chains Lyrics

I was Born In Chains but I was taken out of Egypt
I was bound to a burden, but the burden it was raised
Lord I can no longer keep this secret
Blessed is the name, the name be praised

I fled to the edge of a mighty sea of sorrow
Pursued by the riders of a cruel and dark regime
But the waters parted and my soul crossed over
Out of Egypt, out of Pharaoh’s dream

Word of words and the measure of all measures
Blessed is the name, the name be blessed
Written on my heart in burning letters
That’s all I know, I cannot read the rest

I was idled with my soul, when I heard that you could use me
I followed very closely, but my life remained the same
But then you showed me where you had been wounded
In every atom broken is a name

I was alone on the road, your love was so confusing
All my teachers told me I had myself to blame
But in the grip of sensual illusion
The sweet unknowing unifies a name

Word of words, and the measure of all measures
Blessed is the name, the name be blessed
Written on my heart in burning letters
That’s all I know, I cannot read the rest

I've heard the soul unfolds in the chambers of its longing
And the bitter liquor sweetens in the amber cup
But all the ladders of the night have fallen
Only darkness now, to lift the longing up

Word of words and measure of all measures
Blessed is the name, the name be blessed
Written on my heart in burning letters
That’s all I know, I cannot read the rest

  • This gospel meditation finds Leonard Cohen singing of the "Word of Words and Measure of all Measures," written on his heart "in burning letters." It was the one track on Popular Problems that Cohen wrote on his own, without the help of producer Patrick Leonard.
  • Cohen said during an album playback that this was the Popular Problems track that he struggled with for the longest. "That's been kicking around for forty years," he said with a smile. "I've rewritten the lyric many times to accommodate the changes in my theological position, which is very insecure."

"The chords kind of interest me and we came up with this pure gospel version," he added. "It's the one song on the album I'm not 100 percent behind. I didn't nail it, but I've got a thumbtack in it."
  • Cohen first performed the song on stage in 2010.
  • Leonard Cohen said of the song to The Daily Telegraph: "We all live lives that are tethered to the circumstances in which we find ourselves, so in a certain sense everyone is born in chains. There are moments of liberation and moments of captivity. Life seems to move between those two polarities."
  • Although he has embraced Buddhism, the song finds Cohen harking back to his Jewish roots: "I grew up in a very conservative, observant family, so it's not something I ever felt any distance from," he said. "It is essential to my own survival. Torah values are the ones that inform my life."

  • This was the title track to a movie in which Lewis appeared. There was a sequel to the movie called College Confidential, which had no theme song and no Lewis.
  • Unlike his previous hits "Crazy Arms" and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On,'" Lewis wrote this song himself.

    Brixton Lyrics

    Stay-ay-ay, oh-oh-oh, don’t go, oh
    Stay-ay-ay, oh-oh-oh, don’t go, oh
    Stay-ay-ay, oh-oh-oh, don’t go, oh
    Stay-ay-ay

Brick by brick we built this up
It’s such a shame to tear it down
Stone by stone, yeah we made it last,
But maybe love is a careless craft
We were young and afraid to fall
Cause we’d never been in love before
With each tick-tock as the time was passed
Baby, was it built to last?

We don’t got a lot to say,
We don’t got a lot to say now lately
Don’t got a lot to say,
Cause I don’t want to hear you say you’re leaving,
    You’re leaving me

    If you walk away now
    It won’t prove a thing
If you talk to me now
I’d say anything to keep you here with me,
But you just can’t hear when you’re always screaming
There’s only one more thing I really want to say

    Just stay-ay-ay, oh-oh-oh, don’t go-oh
    Stay-ay-ay, oh-oh-oh, don’t go-oh

Remember when you called me up?
I was on my way to Brixton
You told me I should listen up,
Yeah, you asked if I was listening
You said love’s a game you don’t wanna play
Cause you’ve only got one heart to break
Well the only shot that you’re sure to miss
Is the one that you don’t take

We don’t got a lot to say,
We don’t got a lot to say now lately
Don’t got a lot to say,
Cause I don’t want to hear you say you’re leaving,
    You’re leaving me

    If you walk away now
    It won’t prove a thing
If you talk to me now
I’d say anything to keep you here with me,
But you just can’t hear when you’re always screaming
There’s only one more thing I want to hear you say

    Say you’ll always stay
I’ll always keep you by my side
Say you’ll always stay true, always
I will love you till the day I die

    If you walk away now
    It won’t prove a thing
If you talk to me now
I’ll say anything to keep you here with me,
But you just can’t hear when you’re always screaming
There’s only one more thing I really want to say

    Just stay-ay-ay, oh-oh-oh, don’t go, oh
    Stay-ay-ay, oh-oh-oh, don’t go, oh

  • This was penned by Benji Madden in Brixton, London, hence the title. He told The Official Charts website : "I wrote a handful of songs in London that I hated, but when I sent them to Joel he said he really liked it and we turned it into something great."
  • Brixton is a district of South London with a a multi-ethnic community. It was the site of race riots in 1981, after which the Government commissioned a public inquiry. Other references to Brixton in songs include:

"Barbados" by Typically Tropical (tells the story of a Brixton bus-driver who goes to the tropical island Barbados with 'Coconut Airways' to escape the rain of London).

"The Guns Of Brixton" by The Clash (written by the group's bass player Paul Simonon, who grew up in Brixton, this deals with law enforcement violence in his hometown).

"Electric Avenue" by Eddy Grant (titled after the Electric Avenue shopping area in Brixton, which was one of the first streets in the UK to get electric lights).

"Brixton Briefcase" by Chase & Status (The title is the nickname for a ghetto blaster in the 1980s that people carried on their shoulders, walking around the street listening to music. It was synonymous with London).

"Uptight Downtown" by La Roux (About the grim reality of the 2011 London riots, which singer Elly Jackson observed in Brixton).

And we couldn't leave out the fact that David Bowie was born at 40 Stansfield Road, Brixton.

    MICK JAGGER LYRICS

    "God Gave My Everything"

You can see it in a clear blue sky
You can see it in a woman's eyes
You can hear it in your baby's cries
You can hear it in your lover's sighs
You can touch it in a grain of sand
    Yeah hold it right there
In the palm of your hand
    Feel it 'round you everyday
And hear what I've got to say

God Gave Me Everything I want
    Come on
I'll give it all to you
God gave me everything I want
    Come on
I'll give it all to you

I saw it in the midnight sun
And I feel it in the race I won
And I hear it in the windy storm
And I feel it in the icy dawn
And I smell it the wine I taste
And I see it in my father's face
And I hear it in a symphony
And I feel it in the love
    You show for me

    Yeah
God gave me everything I want
    Oh come on
I'll give it all to you
God gave me everything I want

    Come on
I'll give it all to you
God gave me everything I want
    I can't stop can't stop
    I'm still looking now
God gave me everything I want
    Oh come on
I'll give it all to you

    Crazy you said
    It's all in your head

    [Chorus]

  • Lenny Kravitz helped Jagger write and produce this, and also played guitar on the song. Kravitz often opened for The Rolling Stones.
  • This was the first single from Goddess In The Doorway, which was Jagger's first solo album since 1993. The Rolling Stones lead singer isn't known for spirituality, but on this track he's very explicit about his feelings toward God.
  • This was released to radio in November 2001, but it was released over the internet on October 23 so that it would be eligible for a Grammy the next year. It was one of the first songs sold via download, and it cost $3.49 through Liquid Audio, which was the first company to provide this technology (this was long before iTunes). Along with "Dig In" by Lenny Kravitz, it was the first Virgin Records single sold through download. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)
  • Jagger played a small club in Los Angeles a week before a documentary about his life called Being Mick aired on ABC. He performed this twice at the club so they could use the footage in the documentary, which aired on Thanksgiving, 2001.
  • As part of the promotion for Jagger's documentary, ABC played a video of this mixed with football clips during halftime of Monday Night Football.
  • This appears, appropriately enough, in the 2003 film Bruce Almighty. (thanks, Brett - Edmonton, Canada)
  • The video was directed by Mark Romanek, who also did Kravitz' "Are You Gonna Go My Way." He had Kravitz and Jagger wear camera rigs attached to their bodies, which they walked around in to get footage. This technique can be seen in many movies, including Mean Streets and Requiem for a Dream.

When The Tigers Broke Free Lyrics

    It was just before dawn
One miserable morning in black '44
    When the forward commander
    Was told to sit tight
When he asked that his men be withdrawn
    And the generals gave thanks
    As the other ranks
Held back the enemy tanks for a while
And the Anzio bridghead was held for the price
Of a few hundred ordinary lives

And kind old King George sent mother a note
When he heard that father was gone
It was, I recall, in the form of a scroll
    With gold leaf and all
And I found it one day
In a drawer of old photographs, hidden away
And my eyes still grow damp
    To remember
    That his majesty signed
    With his own rubber stamp

    It was dark all around
There was frost in the ground
    When The Tigers Broke Free
And no one survived from the Royal Fusiliers, Company see
    They were all left behind
    Most of them dead
    The rest of them dying
And that's how the high command
    Took my daddy from me

  • Roger Waters wrote this about his father, who died in World War II at Anzio, Italy in 1944. Roger was just five months old when his father was killed. The feeling of loss became a theme in Roger's songs, many of which dealt with military themes and the repercussions of war.
  • Released as a single in 1982, this song did not appear on an album until it was used on Pink Floyd's 2001 Greatest Hits compilation. It also appeared on the reissued version of The Final Cut in 2003.
  • This was used in Pink Floyd's movie The Wall. It appeared in the "Enemy Bridge Was Held" and "High Command" sections, when Pink sees his dad loading a gun and dusting his army uniform. (thanks, patrick - Chicago, IL)
  • Original Pink Floyd member Syd Barrett also lost his father, who died when he was 14. It may have contributed to the mental illness that forced him out of the band.
  • In this song, Roger Waters sings about finding a letter that "His Majesty signed with his own rubber stamp." Waters says that he was trying on his father's uniform when he found a condolence letter from George VI, which was indeed signed with a rubber stamp. He found the replica signature particularly disturbing, since his dad gave up his life for the country. He would have preferred an actual signature, even if it was simply on behalf of the King.
