The vocals on this song jump about in a classical way. Guitarist Herman Li told AMH Network : "We've done some classical stuff on the guitar before but never with the vocals in the whole song arrangement; this is inspired by a lot of Japanese music and Japanese video games."

Li recalled: "When I did my first guitar solo on this song everyone hated it, I did it again, basically exactly the same and they loved it, so I don't know what they were on about (laughs)."

Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg Song Chart

This was the first Top 40 hit for TLC. It introduced the group and explained who represented each letter: Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas.

This contains samples of "Escape-ism" (James Brown), "Jungle Boogie" (Kool & the Gang), "School Boy Crush" (AWB), "Fly Robin Fly" (Silver Convention), and "Take Me to the Mardi Gras" (Bob James).

The video made sure to introduce each singer. When each girl sang her part, her name flashed on the screen. Like many of their songs, T-Boz sang the lyrics, Left Eye did the rap, and Chilli sang on the chorus.

This is about sex. They made it clear, however, that they advocated safe sex, by prominently displaying condoms. Lopes wore one over her left eye in their early days.

This is not the same song as the Temptations classic of the same name. In that song, a man swallows his pride and begs his girl to come back to him. In this, the girls state that they are not afraid to ask a man for sex.

It took a long time for radio stations to figure out what this song was about, but when they did, a lot of them censored the line, "Two inches or a yard, rock hard or if it's sagging - I ain't too proud to beg." The line was part of Left Eye's rap.

The Ooooooohhh...On the TLC Tip album sold over 3 million copies. Their next one sold 5 million, but TLC still managed to go broke and had to file for bankruptcy in 1995. Their contract paid them only 7% of revenue from album sales, which wasn't enough to cover their expenses when split three ways.

On August 9, 2014, an unarmed 18-year-old black youth, Michael Brown, and his friend, Dorian Johnson, were walking on the 2900 block of Canfield Drive in Ferguson, Missouri. A white policeman, Darren Wilson, ordered the pair to move off the street and onto the pavement. An altercation took place and Wilson fired six shots at Brown, fatally wounding him. The tragedy prompted a series of stand-offs between activists, Ferguson locals and cops as well as much coverage and debate in the United States media.

The Game penned this protest song dedicated to Michael Brown, in the wake of the shooting. He was joined by Diddy, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, Diddy, Fabolous, Wale, DJ Khaled, Swizz Beatz, Yo Gotti, Curren$y, Problem, King Pharaoh and the R&B super-group TGT (Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank). "The issues in Ferguson really hit home for me, and I feel compelled to use my musical platform to address this," Game told Rolling Stone. "I am a black man with kids of my own that I love more than anything, and I cannot fathom a horrific tragedy like Michael Brown's happening to them. This possibility has shaken me to my core. That is why this song must be made and why it was so easy for so many of my friends to come together and unite against the injustice."

All the proceeds from sales of the song went to the Michael Brown Memorial Fund.

This is a piano piece written and performed by Greek composer Evangelos Papathanassiou. "Vangelis" was a lot easier to pronounce.

Prior to his work on "Chariots of Fire," Vangelis was best-known for his work with Aphrodite's Child (a band that also featured the "singing sofa" Demis Roussos) and the duo Jon and Vangelis ("Jon" was Jon Anderson of Yes). (thanks, Geoff - Morecambe, England)

On the original release, the name of the song was "Titles." Two months later, the name was changed to "Chariots of Fire - Titles" (thanks, Brad Wind - Miami, FL)

This was written for the 1981 movie about two runners in the 1924 Olympics. It was used in a classic scene where they are running in slow motion. The scene has been spoofed many times, usually with this music used to complete the joke.

Jolly Green Giant Song Chart

This song is based on a jingle used in Green Giant vegetable commercials. It starts with "In the valley of the Jolly... (ho, ho, ho)..." See a photo and learn more in Song Images .

Libby Foods, owners of Green Giant, wasn't too sure what to make of the song. The West Coast office sent the group boxes of vegetables to give away at concerts, the East Coast office sued the Kingsmen for "defamation."

This has different lyrics, but uses the same melody as The Olympics' 1960 song, "Big Boy Pete," which was a favorite of the Kingsmen. They often performed it in concert.

This is an instrumental song that is usually associated with a strip tease.

This was used for the TV program Burlesque. It accompanied a scene featuring a woman stripping off screen while two men argued on screen. This gave it a reputation as a song to take your clothes off to.

Rose wrote this in the last 10 minutes of a recording session in 1958. He didn't have a name for it, and referred to it as "a funny piece of music with no title." Later that year, Rose was asked to re-record the song "Ebb Tide" to help promote the movie "Sweet Bird of Youth" (with Paul Newman and Geraldine Page), which he quickly did, but the movie studio needed a B-side for the single, so this song, which was an unnamed, unreleased cut, was pulled from the vaults, given a name ("The Stripper") and placed on the B-side of the "Ebb Tide" single.

Los Angeles DJ Robert Q. Lewis popularized this by playing it on the air for 45 minutes straight and playing it whenever a listener requested ANY song.

When Rose performed in the Royal Albert Hall years later, he had no intention of including this in his repertoire, but he played it anyway after someone in the audience yelled out a request for it. Rose apologized to Albert Hall management afterwards.

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine wrote this with Australian singer-songwriter Sia (David Guetta's "Titanium," Rihanna's, "Diamonds"). Guitarist James Valentine told Billboard magazine: "Living here in Los Angeles we've known Sia for a long time, back from when she was just an artist, before her second act as, like, the most brilliant pop songwriter of all time, so it was really cool just to work with her."

This features No Doubt's Gwen Stefani. The Californian band were an influence on the Maroon 5 band members in their early days when they were performing as Kara's Flowers playing grungy garage music. "It's cool for all of us to have her on the record," said Valentine. "And Adam won't shut up about how cool she is as a person. A lot of times when you meet your idols it's a letdown, but it's the opposite case with Gwen, apparently."

This song was written and produced by a group of Motown songwriters known as "The Corporation." They were: Freddie Perren, Fonce Mizell, Deke Richards, and Berry Gordy, Jr. Freddie Perren was a former school teacher, which probably influenced the school metaphors in the lyrics.

This became the Jackson 5's second #1 hit by knocking out the Beatles' "Let It Be."

According to co-writer Freddie Perren, the music of this is the chorus of their previous hit, "I Want You Back."

This song was inspired by an a capella version of Neil Young's "After The Goldrush," by the English group Prelude, which was a hit in the early 1970s. The New Pornagraphers' A.C. Newman told Spin magazine: "It's got this thick wall of harmonies, which I kept coming back to when we were doing the song."

Once ["You Tell Me Where"] gets to the halfway point, the vocals just go crazy," he added: "It's me and Kathryn [Calder] and Neko [Case] and Kelly Hogan, and it becomes this wall. I thought, 'I want it to sound like this crazy '70s choir.'"

Another inspiration for the song was Scott Miller, the late mainman of 1980s power pop band Game Theory, who passed away in 2013. "His sense of melody and songwriting had a big influence on me," Newman told Spin. "People have said that they think I'm influenced by Big Star, but really I'm more influenced by Game Theory, who were influenced by Big Star. I got it in my head that I would try to write something that musically was a tip of the hat to Game Theory, and that was 'You Tell Me Where.'"

"It started out like, 'I'm gonna write something like Game Theory,'" he added. "Then it gets to the point where I'm saying, 'Now I want this to sound like an a cappella group from the '70s.' You don't finish songs like this, but it's a good way to start songs."

One Week Song Chart

The band has said that this is about a big fight in a relationship. The lyrics are essentially meaningless, but entertaining. (thanks, Kelly - Portland, OR)

Fittingly, this spent one week at #1 in the US.

This was the first big hit for Barenaked Ladies. They have been around since 1988 and developed a large cult following, especially in their native Canada and among college students. This brought them mainstream success, which they took advantage of by playing every US radio station concert they could find.

The reason why many of the lyrics are just a hotchpotch of cultural references is that the song was written as a freestyle. Singer-guitarist Ed Robertson explained to Billboard magazine: "I wrote the chorus structure of the song, but I couldn't figure out the verses at all. I got together with [singer] Steve [Page] a bunch of times and said 'I have this idea for a song, and I couldn't figure out where to go with it.' And finally Steve said to me at some point, 'Just freestyle it! Just do what you do onstage every night. It's gonna be great.'"

"There were some extra verses and stuff," he added. "I just culled it down to what I thought were my favorite lines. But it was written as a freestyle."

The last words of the song are "Birchmount Stadium, home of the Robbie." This refers to an annual soccer tournament held for charity at Birchmount Stadium in Scarborough, Ontario. Steven Page and Ed Robertson have said that these are are the hardest words to say in the song.

The Robbie (officially The Robbie International Soccer Tournament), began in 1967 when some area soccer fans started a boys' tournament to raise money for 3-year-old Robbie Wimbs, who had Cystic Fibrosis. The tournament grew, and later became a benefit for Muscular Dystrophy research as well.
