A very popular and family-friendly entertainer throughout the '60s, Ray Stevens was given his own TV variety show in 1970 called The Ray Stevens Show, which lasted just one season as a summer replacement. He wrote the uplifting "Everything Is Beautiful" as the theme for the show. Stevens explained to mybestyears.com , "I needed a very special song for the program. I went down in my basement for about three days. I had crumpled paper all over the place. And suddenly the idea for the song came to me. I wrote it in maybe 45 minutes. It was a very special song and one that a lot of people still remember and sing along when I do it in shows."

This is a rare hit for Stevens that was not a novelty recording. He was better known for comedy songs like "The Streak," "Ahab, The Arab," and "Harry The Hairy Ape."

Stevens was backed on this track by his two daughters and a second-grade class from Oak Hill Elementary School in Nashville, Tennessee. The song opens with the children's chorus singing the first two lines of a popular bible school hymn, "Jesus Loves The Little Children."

This was the first Jackson 5 hit not written by "The Corporation," a collection of Motown writers lead by the chief of the label, Berry Gordy. The Corporation were based in California, unlike most Motown writers, who were in the Detroit offices. This song was written by Hal Davis (who also produced it), Bob West, Willie Hutch, and Berry Gordy.

In this song, a man tells his former lover that he will always be there for her, and that even if she finds someone new, she can always go back to him.

In 1975 Gloria Gaynor recorded a Disco cover of this entitled 'Reach Out, I'll Be There," which peaked at #14 in the UK and #60 in the US. (thanks, Edward Pearce - Ashford, Kent, England)

Mariah Carey remade this in 1992. It was originally a last-minute addition to her MTV Unplugged setlist, after she had been informed that most acts on the show commonly perform at least one cover.

Carey's version was performed as a romantic duet, with her singing Michael Jackson's lines and an uncredited Trey Lorenz, who had provided background vocals on her Emotions album, performing Jermaine Jackson's part.

Carey's label received numerous requests to release "I'll Be There" as a single after the MTV Unplugged special was aired. They did so and it went on to top the Hot 100 and several other charts including the ones in Canada, The Netherlands and New Zealand. The song also peaked at #2 in the UK.

At one point Michael hollers, "Just look over your shoulders, honey." He had been instructed by Berry Gordy to sing "just look over your shoulder" (as an allusion to what Levi Stubbs had said in The Four Tops' "Reach Out I'll Be There"), but the fluffed line was allowed to remain in the final mix.

Suffragette City

A "Suffragette" is a woman involved in the women's suffrage movement (trying to get the right to vote). A London newspaper was the first to use the term, and did so in a derogatory manner. In England, women got voting rights in 1918. In the US, it was 1920.

Bowie offered this to the band Mott The Hoople, but they turned it down. Bowie was a big fan of Mott The Hoople, but they weren't selling well and were about to break up. To keep them going, Bowie offered to produce their next album, and although they rejected this, they did record Bowie's "All The Young Dudes," which became a big hit and got them out of a financial mess.

The heavy saxophone backing sound is not a saxophone. It was created by an ARP synthesizer. Bowie wanted a larger-than-life sax sound, so they used the synth to create the sounds that a real sax couldn't.

The famous "Wham Bam Thank-you Ma'am" lyric was the title of one of the tracks on Charles Mingus' 1961 Oh Yeah album (according to Mingus it was also a phrase that his drummer, Max Roach, used when he was "unable to express his inner feelings") and most likely one which Bowie was aware of, being a jazz lover himself. The word "droogie" (from the line "Aw, droogie, don't crash here") is from the book (later made into a movie) A Clockwork Orange. It means "friend." Like most of the words in the book's teen-slang language, Nadsat, it's based on Russian. (thanks, Beth - San Francisco, CA)

This is one of Bowie's all time personal favorites.

When Bowie played this live in 1972, he started doing a bit at the end of the song where he went underneath his guitarist, Mick Ronson, and played the guitar with his mouth. This made it look like Bowie was simulating oral sex, and it caused a stir when Bowie talked his Manager into buying a whole page of advertising space in the British magazine Melody Maker to get the infamous "oral sex" picture published immediately after it was shot at a show in Oxford Town Hall in June 72. This is the title track of Suicide Silence's fourth album. You Can't Stop Me is the band's first record to feature vocalist Hernan "Eddie" Hermida, following the tragic loss of their original singer Mitch Lucker. "The long and short of it is this," said guitarist Mark Heylmun. "Mitch left behind a set of lyrics with the title 'You Can't Stop Me'. This gave us chills, to say the least, and we knew we had the title and title track. This filled us with inspiration for writing sessions to empower you, the supporters of Suicide Silence."

Mitch Lucker died November 1, 2012 after sustaining injuries in a motorcycle crash in Huntington Beach on Halloween night.

The song's music video was directed by Nathan "Karma" Cox, who has previously worked with Linkin Park, Black Veil Brides and Marilyn Manson. The clip concludes with a tribute message giving a shout out to Mitch Lucker.

This was featured in the movie The Woman In Red, starring Kelly LeBrock as the woman and Gene Wilder as the married man who is mesmerized by her. Stevie wrote the score for the movie. He got the gig after Dionne Warwick, who was working on the soundtrack, suggested him to the producers of the film. Wonder ended up contributing songs as well, and the soundtrack contains songs from both Stevie and Dionne. The movie's producers rejected some demos written by Jay Graydon and David Foster, and one of those songs became "Who's Holding Donna Now," which was a hit for El DeBarge.

This is Motown's biggest-selling single ever in the UK, where it was Wonder's first #1. It was his eighth #1 in the US. (thanks, Emery - London, England)

This won the Oscar for Best Original Song, beating out "Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)," "Footloose," "Let's Hear It For The Boy" and "Ghostbusters."

Wonder claimed that he wrote the music for this song in 1978, and then "modernized" it when he added lyrics for the soundtrack. Wonder is an extremely prolific composer and was constantly coming up with songs that he would sometimes revisit much later.

In the 2000 movie High Fidelity, this is the subject of a rant by a character played by Jack Black. In the film, a man walks into the record store and asks for this song so he can give it to his daughter. Black's character, who is working there, scolds him for wanting such and awful song and goes on to explain that his daughter probably hates it and it was clearly the low point of Wonder's career.

Wonder had moved to a much more adult contemporary sound when he released this song. His early hits like "Superstition" and "Higher Ground" were often filled with funk, but in the '80s, songs like this one and "Part-Time Lover" had a smoother sound, resulting in big hits, but disappointment for those hoping for a classic Wonder groove.

Stevie sang some of this when he made an appearance on The Cosby Show in 1986. The episode was called "A Touch of Wonder," and was later cited by Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson as an inspiration to many young musicians who became interested in samplers and making music after seeing Wonder on the show.

This track from Becky G's Play It Again EP finds her collaborating with Pitbull. The teenage singer penned the tune with hitmaker Dr Luke (Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone," Taio Cruz's "Dynamite"), his frequent collaborator Cirkut and Pitbull's A&R right hand man, DJ Buddha.

The song was sent to Latin radio and received heavy rotation, becoming both Becky G and Dr Luke's first #1s on the Billboard Latin Rhythm Airplay chart.

Becky explained to Rolling Stone how the collaboration with Pitbull came about: "First, I was in the studio with Buddha, Cirkut and Luke and after I did the hook, Buddha was like, 'Oh my God, I got to send this to Pit,'" she recalled. "Pit sent it back with some verse ideas, and I was like, 'Oh my God, this is crazy!' He's Mr. Worldwide, he was literally in a different part of the world when we did it [laughs]."
"It was a rite of passage for me, having a song with Pit — Uncle Pit, as I would say — because he really is like having another uncle," she added. "He's just the sweetest, most humble, smartest man I've ever met. Of course I shouldn't say that because all my other uncles would be jealous [laughs]."

This song is about being used, and how a guy can think of a girl as a prize and his friends congratulate him. "I wanted to know ya, I wanted to show ya" refers to the attitude that sometimes girls think they have to have sex to prove that they care for someone, and then "I just don't understand why you wont talk to me" is about how high school boys can be terrible - you can be in the most intimate moment with them, and then the next day they don't recognize your existence. "Don't talk words against me" refers to rumors. It's harsh being called things like "slut," "ho," "whore," when all you wanted was to show him you wanted to be with him. This is the lead single from Siren Charms. Lead singer Anders Fridén explained to Finland's Kaaos TV that the choice was made by the band's record company. "All the songs, for me, are great," he said. "And for the first time… 'Cause usually, I'm, like, 'OK, this is the single, this is the video, this is how everything should be and look and whatever.' And now, it was, 'I can't pick and choose. Record company, you decide.' And I guess they took 'Rusted Nail', because it shows where In Flames are today, and it's a nice description of the album. It has a little bit of that and a little bit of this. To me, you could pick any song; I like them all."

The music video was shot by Swedish director Patric Ullaeus of the Revolver Film Company AB, who has previously worked with Hammerfall, Europe and Lacuna Coil among others.
