Catch Tomorrow

This Progressive House track features the rugged rock star voice of Sting. Asked by MTV UK how the former Police frontman got involved on the cut, Afrojack replied. "Despite popular belief, I regularly listen to classic pop and rock songs and I'm a big fan of Sting's music. Electronic music really matches up with the right attitude, in my opinion."

"My good friend Martin Kierszenbaum from Cherrytree Records heard the original demo of this song and suggested Sting," he continued. "Eventually he set up a meeting and Sting and I both hit it off musically, the result is what you can hear on the album."

The song opens with a Johann Sebastian Bach chorale from the German Baroque composer's "St Matthew Passion."

The St. Matthew Passion was a musical composition written by Bach for solo voices, double choir and double orchestra. It set chapters 26 and 27 of the Gospel of Matthew to music, with interspersed chorales and arias.

The music video features a giant snake being driven through city streets. Cellist Grace Chatto told HMV.com : "We spent months making the video, because Jack (Patterson, bass guitar and keyboards) made the gold snake from scratch and made it move around London."

Cologne

This song features the voices of Javeon and Nikki Cislyn. Clean Bandit met the latter vocalist through the group's studio space which is part of a council project in London where they take on trainees in music production from the local area. Cellist Grace Chatto told HMV.com : "Some of the trainees we had turned out to be incredible singers, Nikki Cislyn came to us that way, she's on three songs on the album and she's now writing for other people."

Clean Bandit wrote this with Nikki Cislyn and Nigerian-descended production whiz Uzoechi Emenike (a.k.a. MNEK), who scored his first UK #1 hit in April 2013 as a co-writer on Duke Dumont and AME's club anthem "Need U (100%)." The song deals with the theme of being in a club.

This launched one of the most famous rivalries in rap history. During the recording of the song, Canibus used the lyric "Yo L, is that mic on your arm? Let me borrow that," referencing the tattoo of a microphone on LL Cool J's arm. This comment offended LL Cool J, who had the line from Canibus removed from the song, but used his verse on the song to launch an angry assault at Canibus, opening with the line "When young sons fantasize of borrowing flows, tell little shorty with the big mouth the bank is closed". Canibus retaliated by recording "Second Round Knock Out." LL Cool J followed that up with his own retaliation on "The Ripper Strikes Back," which also took shots at Canibus' mentor at the time, Wyclef Jean. Wyclef responded with "What's Clef Got To Do With It," to which LL Cool J retaliated with "Rasta Imposta." Of all these songs, only "Second Round Knock Out" by Canibus was commercially released, while the rest made their way through the hip-hop underground.

The song features guest vocalist Rae Morris, who also filled in for three tracks on Bombay Bicycle Club's 2014 album, So Long, See You Tomorrow, while the band's regular collaborator, Lucy Rose, was on tour. Mama Said Knock You Out

LL Cool J has said that the title of this song came to him during an instance in which he was having trouble getting direction with his writing. When his grandmother heard about this, she gave him the simple advice to "knock them out," hence the song title. (thanks, Brian - Edmonton, Canada)

LL Cool J wrote this song about staying on top of the rap game. It was one of the first rap hits to use lots of artillery imagery, with bombs, shotguns and a 9mm pistol showing up in the rather bellicose lyric.

LL's lyrics are purely metaphorical, but around this time real violence within the hip-hop community was becoming a major problem. With the rise of "gangsta" rap, similar lyrics were often far more literal, depicting real-life events and credible threats.

This won the Grammy award for Best Rap Solo Performance.

LL Cool J performed this on the MTV acoustic showcase Unplugged when he became the first rapper to appear on the show.

The title track of Clean Bandit's debut album was written in a place in France called Nouailles. Cellist Grace Chatto recalled: "No one was quite sure how to pronounce it and our manager nicknamed it as 'New Eyes', which stuck... The song's music video was filmed along the Cornish coastline and stars the band's Cambridge contemporary Lily Cole as a mermaid. Asked by Rookie Creative how they got the model to be in the clip, violinist Neil Amin-Smith replied: "Lily's a friend of friend, and when Jack (Patterson, keyboards) decided he wanted a beautiful mermaid character asking her was a no-brainer! She was incredibly professional and generous with her time, especially as we were asking her to get in a murky pool outside in early January."

Clean Bandit almost accidentally electrocuted Lily Cole during the filming of the video. "In hindsight, maybe we should have had a couple of safety officers on board," Patterson told Billboard magazine with a smile. "But we take our videos very seriously. We are completely willing to die for them."

When I'm Gone

"When I'm Gone" does not necessarily mean "when I'm gone in a permanent sense." When Brad Arnold wrote this song, the subject he had in mind was unconditional love, for when you're removed from your loved one by miles, or time, or other obstacles. "It's asking a question, just please love me when I'm gone," says the lead singer. "And not just like when I'm dead and gone, but when I'm gonna come back. And that's kind of one thing it's about. But at the same time it's kind of about unconditional love. It's a lot of different statements it's asking of the person in that song. And it's like just the fulfillment of those different needs for every situation that it mentions. So I guess that song is just about needing someone really to be there for you unconditionally, and when you're gone."

An "education x-ray," explains Brad, would refer to a psychologist or therapist who doesn't actually take an x-ray of you with a machine, but rather forms a sort of mental x-ray of you by way of their educational training, and the time spent talking with you to make a diagnosis. In Brad's words: "It's when a kid's mom or dad is quick to take them to a psychologist or something, and it's like talking about their education x-ray trying to look into you. It's like, 'I'm not gonna tell you a damn thing that I couldn't tell my friends.'" (Check out our full interview with Brad Arnold)

Although the lyrics don't have anything to do with the army or war, the music video was dedicated to all the men and women serving in the United States military.

This song gained popularity around the time the US was preparing to invade Iraq. For many people in the military, it said a lot about how they were feeling being away from their families and loved ones, and reminded them that everyone back home was still thinking of them.
