Out Of Mind

Truth Serum documents a failed relationship. The final track of the EP finds someone telling Tovo Lo that "time will heal" her broken heart. She responds with a yell: "Are you kidding me?"

"I've always wanted my music to have that desperation," the Swedish singer told the BBC, "where you just want to strip your clothes off and run down the highway. I want the feeling where you don't really know what to do with yourself - in the vocals, in the production. Everything."

The song also featured on Tove Lo's Queen of the Clouds album, which she told Artist Direct , "is three chapters of how things usually go for me in a relationship."

This track comes after the end of the romance having got over the initial pain and heartbreak. "It's when you moved on and you're sort of okay, but you still have that little scar. It will always be there," Tove Lo explained. "Those thoughts about this other person will always haunt you a bit."

"In the video, I have these ghosts chasing me," she continued. "When you go through something like that, it always sticks with you."

Damon Albarn shouts out the West London road of Westbourne Grove, which has been his manor for a number of years. It serves as the main road on the route of the annual Notting Hill Carnival in August. He told Uncut magazine: "Always after Carnival, there is this enormous residue of energy that hovers around for a few days. It's a Post-Carnival Apocalypse song!"

Albarn, who has long since been clean of drugs, addresses on this ballad his use of heroin during his Britpop days.

The Blur singer began his relationship with heroin at the height of Britpop. He acknowledged to Q magazine the role that the drug played in his artistic growth. "I hate talking about this because of my daughter, my family," he explained. "But, for me, it was incredibly creative [...] A combination of [heroin] and playing really simple, beautiful, repetitive s--t in Africa changed me completely as a musician. I found a sense of rhythm. I somehow managed to break out of something with my voice."

Albarn also cautioned about the drug's risks. "It's a cruel, cruel thing," he told Uncut, adding that heroin "does turn you into a very isolated person and ultimately anything that you are truly dependent on is not good."

This is actually an amalgamation of two different songs, the first being titled "You" and the other being "Me."

The Moko Jumbie stilts walker is part of the carnival. In the song he's walking through London's All Saints Road and looking over the Brunel estate. Albarn explained to Uncut: "I've actually met the proper Moko Jumbie, when I went to Congo – he's represented in Carnival by the stilted people – that's a derivation of the Congolese Moko Jumbie spirit, a traditional tribal creature who travels around looking into people's houses."

The steel drums break in the middle of the song was played by a local London musician. Albarn explained on a Reddit AMA that "his pans represent to me the true ghost of carnival."

Damon Albarn admits here the intrinsic infidelity of creativity over an acoustic guitar and string figure. Uncut magazine asked the Blur frontman if it thinks the pursuit of an artistic vision is damaging to emotional stability? He replied: "I think it definitely can be. This sassy tune features a vocal contribution from Timbaland. Timbo also produced the track with his frequent collaborator J-Roc. "'Walk It Out' reflects the 'JHud' in me. Every bit of it is a reminder and a connection of where I come from," said Hudson. "Who better to help me reconnect to that than Timbaland and his team? Hideaway

Kiesa Rae Ellestad is a singer-songwriter from Calgary, Canada who performs under the moniker of Kiesza. Before embarking on a music career she spent time with the reserves of the Royal Canadian Navy as a code breaker and competed in Miss Universe Canada.

She wrote her first song at the age of 18 as a way of expressing her feelings about her parents' divorce and soon started performing her tunes live.

Kiesza moved to Boston after obtaining a scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music and after completing her studies she went to New York City to advance her music career before settling in London.

This is her first single after signing to indie label Lokal Legend in 2013. Kiesza told Planet Notion the story of the song. "I was just about to head to the airport to board a plane to LA. At the time, I was in New York and I was going to head out there as my writing was picking up," she recalled.

"I was ready to board a plane and Rami – the producer I work with – had started working on this track in the studio and it sounded really cool. It reminded me of a lot of the people that I'm into, so I asked if I could jump on the mic before I had to go. The entire song just came out. Everything you hear was finished in an hour-and-a-half. It just poured out. I nearly missed my flight; it was like a scene from a movie."

"Two days later, I get this call from Rami saying, 'I think you need to come back to New York," she added. "That's when I knew I'd found a sound that really worked for me."

The song's video is a continuous shot that follows Kiesza as she dances her way through the streets of Williamsburg, New York. The Canadian singer had trouble making the clip. A trained ballerina, she was given only three days to learn five completely new dance styles, then on the day of the shoot, she broke a rib. Kiesza told Rolling Stone: "I did the video in two takes and couldn't move for an entire month afterward, but I pulled it off."

So why Kiesza? She explained to Redbull.co.uk : "I was just a weird child – my name was originally spelled Kiesa and as a kid I really liked the s and the z. I liked that they look almost like a reflection. I just started spelling it that way and it stuck."

Kiesza made her US TV debut on July 9, 2014 on The Late Show With David Letterman, where she performed this song.

Kiesza told Q magazine: "I was thinking of my love for Chicago house, soul and '90s divas, and a song just clicked. 'Hideaway' was written, recorded, mixed and mastered on 90 minutes."
