Nightrain Lyrics

Loaded like a freight train
Flyin like an airplane
Feelin like a space brain
One more time tonight
Well I'm a west coast struttin'
One bad mother
Got a rattlesnake suitcase
Under my arm
Said I'm a mean machine
Been drinkin' gasoline
And honey you can make my motor hum
I got one chance left
In a nine live cat
I got a dog eat dog sly smile
I got a Molotov cocktail
With a match to go
I smoke my cigarette with style
An I can tell you honey
You can make my money tonight

Wake up late
Honey put on your clothes
Take your credit card
To the liquor store
That's one for you and
Two for me by tonight
I'll be loaded like a freight train
Flyin' like an aeroplane
Feelin' like a space brain
One more time tonight

I'm on the Nightrain
Bottoms up
I'm on the nightrain
Fill my cup
I'm on the nightrain
Ready to crash and burn
I never learn
I'm on the nightrain
I love that stuff
I'm on the nightrain
I can never get enough
I'm on the nightrain
Never to return-no

Loaded like a freight train
Flyin' like an aeroplane
Speedin' like a space brain
One more time tonight
I'm on the nightrain
And I'm lookin' for some
I'm on the nightrain
So's I can leave this slum
I'm on the nightrain
And I'm ready to crash and burn

Nightrain
Bottoms up
I'm on the nightrain
Fill my cup
I'm on the nightrain
Whoa yeah
I'm on the nightrain
Love that stuff
I'm on the nightrain
An I can never get enough
Ridin' the nightrain
I guess I
I guess, I guess, I guess
I never learn
On the nightrain
Float me home
Ooh I'm on the nightrain
Ridin' the nightrain
Never to return
Nightrain

Nightrain
  • Nightrain is a very cheap wine that Guns N' Roses drank a lot of while recording Appetite For Destruction. Its also the drink of choice for hobos and bums.
  • Axl Rose wrote this in 1985 when Guns N' Roses were living in Los Angeles and playing gigs on the Sunset Strip. The song is about how they were so reckless, crazy and poor that the only alcohol they could afford was the Nightrain. After every show they would get drunk and walk back home singing the lyrics to "Nightrain" until it finally came together.
  • At some shows in 1987, Axl Rose would give drinking tips from the stage. When introducing this song, he would sometimes say something like: "In these liquor stores that the winos hit up, right beside Thunderbird, you'll find the Nightrain. That'll f--k up you twice as bad as Thunderbird and it's a lot cheaper."

    Andro Queen Lyrics

Now Andro Queen has lost her ring
I think it used to sit right here
Encrusted in blue and hard and true
For now I will kiss her finger

Have you ever seen Andro Queen
    Wandering all for her ruby?
One day she'll come in through my window
Yes, she gave me her own true pledge

For what's missing I'll sacrifice my flesh
Only kissing you is so hard in this wild thresh
That's how it's been with Andro Queen

Loving on our bed of flowers
Breathing in the smell of her musk
In a moon of milk she is scared, yes, she is
But she shows me under her silk

For what's missing I'll sacrifice my flesh
Only kissing you is so hard in this wild thresh
    I wave goodbye to Andro

Mi aspekti al la cxielo por via reveni
Mi aspekti cxe via mano al vidi la ringo
Kaj ni will promeni kune al via cambro
    Nia ami will esti nova
    Nia ami will esti nova

She's off in a silver rocket
Off to the gas and rings of Saturn
Off her head she gave me a lock, yes, she did
For my neck a rusted locket

For what's missing I'll sacrifice my flesh
Only kissing you is so hard in this wild thresh

Only kissing you is so hard in this wild thresh

  • Black Francis sings this mystical love song's bridge in the international language Esperanto. It translates as:

"I look to the heavens for your return
I look at your hand to see the ring
And we will walk together to your room
Our love will be a new
Our love will be a new."

Esperanto is an artificial language developed in the 1880s by Polish physician Dr. Ludwig Lazarus Zamenhof. Its name means 'the hopeful one,' the pseudonym of its inventor. Zamenhof created it to be politically neutral, transcendent of nationality, and easy to learn, hoping it would become a universal second language. Current estimates of Esperanto speakers range from 100,000 to 2,000,000 active or fluent speakers worldwide, including around a thousand native speakers who learned it from birth as one of their native languages.

    The Eton Rifles Lyrics

Sup up your beer and collect your fags
There's a row going on down near slough
Get out your mat and pray to the west
I'll get out mine and pray for myself
Thought you were smart when you took them on
But you didn't take a peep in their artillery room
All that rugby puts hairs on your chest
What chance have you got against a tie and a crest?

Hello-hooray, what a nice day, for The Eton Rifles, Eton rifles
Hello-hooray, I hope rain stops play, with the Eton rifles, Eton rifles

Thought you were clever when you lit the fuse
Tore down the house of commons in your brand new shoes
    Compose a revolutionary symphony
Then went to bed with a charming young thing

Hello-hooray, cheers then mate, its the Eton rifles, Eton rifles
Hello-hooray, an extremist scrape, with the Eton rifles, Eton rifles

What a catalyst you turned out to be
Loaded the guns then you run off home for your tea
Left me standing, like a guilty schoolboy

What a catalyst you turned out to be
Loaded the guns then you run off home for your tea
Left me standing, like a naughty schoolboy

We came out of it naturally the worst
Beaten and bloody and I was sick down my shirt
We were no match for their untamed wit
Though some of the lads said they'll be back next week

Hello-hooray, there's a price to pay, to the Eton rifles, Eton rifles
Hello-hooray, I'd prefer the plague, to the Eton rifles, Eton rifles

    The Eton Rifles
  • This makes reference to England's elite college, Eton. It is a song about class warfare, with lines like, "What chance do you have against a tie and a crest." Paul Weller was inspired to write the song by a news article that he read about unemployed demonstrators on a "Right to Work" march, a campaign initiated by the left wing Socialist Workers Party, passing the prestigious Eton College. The "Eton Rifles" are a cadet corps of Eton College, and the song itself is about the rivalry between boys at Eton and the neighboring working class schoolboys. Paul Weller himself attended Sheerwater Comprehensive school, which was located quite close to Eton.
  • Paul Weller wrote this during his first holiday since the ascendancy of The Jam two years earlier. In the summer of 1979 he rented a caravan in the seaside town of Selsey in West Sussex on the southern coast of England. The Jam was a Punk/New Wave band that came out of England in the late '70s.

Weller recalled to Mojo magazine in 2015: "We had a week off and I never even thought about going abroad for a holiday at that time. So I went down to my mum and dad's caravan in Selsey and it pissed with rain for the whole week, so I just ended up writing. And I wrote 'Eton Rifles.' I thought it was a powerful statement."
  • Throughout the 1980s Paul Weller was a political active Labour supporter. However he has since become disillusioned with politics. It was no surprise then, that he was shocked when in 2008 the Conservative leader David Cameron nominated this class war diatribe as a favourite tune. A flabbergasted Weller commented to the Daily Mirror October 24, 2008: "Which part of the song didn't he get? Did he think it was a celebration of being at Eton or something? I don't know. He must have an idea what it's about, surely? It's a shame really that someone didn't listen to that song and get something else from it and become a socialist leader instead. I was a bit disappointed really."
  • Its possible that Paul Weller read about the march in the June 17, 1978 edition of The Socialist Worker newspaper in which case he would have read the following: "Eton had never seen anything like it. Right to Work marchers met Rock Against Racism punks weaving through the streets of Eton behind Crisis, a band pounding out driving rock music from the back of a lorry. Two movements coming together outside Eton public school, heart of privilege and pomp. The chants, 'Annihilate the National Front,' fake upper-class accents, 'What does one want - the Right to Work,' 'Eton boys rather naughty, Liverpool boys rather good.' Pogoing in protest as a giant silver spoon is presented to the Eton Head Boy. 'I hope your jolly campaign gets you somewhere,' he said."'
  • The opening line, "Sup up your beer and collect your fags, there's a row going on down near Slough" is a clever start to the song. The word 'fag' has a double meaning in England. It can be another word for 'cigarettes,' but an Eton schoolboy would more likely interpret it as a slang term for a young public schoolboy who must perform chores for an older student.

    God Blessed Video Lyrics

Lets take a plane and go somewhere exotic
To play with a non-descript song
We'll shoot all the crotch shots for 12 year old hopefuls
To make you a real man my son

    Some cheap kid from Birmingham
    Blessed with an accent
That pours like the darkest brown ale
Just one more puppet, piss elegant marionette
He's just a fast buck for sale

Don't you know that God Blessed Video
We know that God blessed video

Break out the cameras that re-shape my face
And get someone to carve up my hair
If you can't beat them, you might as well join 'em
And be glad to say you were there

    God Blessed Video
  • The Hard Rock band Alcatrazz got some airplay with the videos for their songs "Hiroshima Mon Amour" and "Island In The Sun," but nothing like what their photogenic New Wave counterparts were getting. Lead singer Graham Bonnet was watching a Duran Duran video one day when it struck him that a good video could compensate for a terrible song. "It was a gift that video came along and made these great videos of nice looking women in exotic places, but the song wasn't that good, and that's basically what it's about," he told us. "It's like 'Video Killed The Radio Star,' if you remember that song. It was my sort of version of that, just saying, 'Well, if you've got a great video, doesn't matter what the song's like. It'll help you a helluva lot.'"
  • The band made a video for this song, with the first minute taken up with a skit where an angel and devil discuss music videos. MTV has a history of embracing videos that deal with the medium itself ("Video Killed The Radio Star," "Money For Nothing"), but they passed on this one, which may have hit too close to home with lyrics like "We'll shoot all the crotch shots for 12 year old hopefuls."
  • Steve Vai, who was the band's guitarist for the Disturbing the Peace album, wrote this song with Graham Bonnet. Vai, who replaced Yngwie Malmsteen in Alcatrazz, left to join David Lee Roth's band. If there was ever a man who blessed video, it was Roth; while Vai got plenty of screen time in the "God Blessed Video" clip, he ceded most of the camera time to Roth in his videos.

  • Waits liked to snatch stories from the street. Like the time he and this then girlfriend, Rickie Lee Jones, were flagged down by a group of Mexican gang members. "Because of how Tom looked at the time - the tattoos, the hat - I guess these guys felt safe to talk to him," recalled Jones to the July 2011 edition of Mojo magazine. "one of them asked him where the hospital was. He glanced into the back seat, and there was a kid back there bleeding. A lot of blood. He wrote 'Romeo Is Bleeding' soon after."
  • This is the song that provided the title for the Gary Oldman movie about a crooked cop.

The fortune teller looked into my eyeballs
The wrinkles on her face about to crack
She said 'you best believe it,
You ain't goin' nowhere, unless you get that
    Monkey off your back'
I made believe the devil made me do it
I was the evil leader of the pack
You best believe I had it all and then I blew it
Feedin' that fuckin' Monkey on My Back
If you put it a spoon man I would boot it
Some king whose mental house was just a shack
Where do you draw the line when all your friends are dyin'
You got to get that monkey off your back
    Uh, uh, uh....
Your crystal ball is where you chase the dragon
She said, 'now' I bring me home his head inside a sack
But now you find your crystal balls are draggin'
Got to get that monkey off your back

    Monkey on My Back
  • Written by guitarist Joe Perry and lead singer Steven Tyler, this song is about the band's struggles with addition (or, as Perry puts it, their "adventures in body chemistry"). A "monkey on one's back" is a term that means a burden, which is how they came to view their drug use. When the band finally sobered up for their 1987 album Permanent Vacation, they enjoyed a career resurgence, got in great physical shape, and became video stars thanks to MTV.
  • This was the first song Tyler and Perry wrote for the Pump album - they composed it in November, 1988 about two months after their tour ended (a sign that they were rehabbed for good: Guns N' Roses were their opening act, but they still stayed clean). They recorded the song live in the studio with Tyler adding his vocals later.
  • Aerosmith's record company sherpa John Kalodner asked Steven Tyler to remove the profanity from the line "feedin' that f--kin' monkey on my back," but Tyler refused. Kalodner did get a concession on another track on the album when he convinced Tyler to change the line "He raped a little, bitty baby" in "Janie's Got A Gun" to "He jacked a little, bitty baby."

    Freedom '90 Lyrics

    I won't let you down;
I will not give you up.
    Gotta have some faith in the sound;
It's the one good thing that I've got.
    I won't let you down,
So please don't give me up,
Because I would really, really, love to stick around.
Heaven knows I was just a young boy,
Didn't know what I wanted to be.
I was every little hungry schoolgirl's pride and joy,
And I guess it was enough for me.
To win the race? A prettier face!
    Brand new clothes and a big fat place;
On your rock and roll TV.
    But, today, the way I play the game is not the same;
    No way.
Think I'm gonna get myself happy.
I think there's something you should know.
I think it's time I told you so.
There's something deep inside of me.
There's someone else I've got to be.
Take back your picture in a frame.
Take back your singing in the rain.
    I just hope you understand.
Sometimes the clothes do not make the man.
All we have to do, now,
Is take these lies and make them true somehow.
    All we have to see
Is that I don't belong to you,
And you don't belong to me.
    Freedom;
You've gotta give for what you take.
    Freedom;
You've gotta give for what you take.
Heaven knows we sure had some fun, boy.
What a kick, just a buddy and me.
We had every big shot, good-time, band on the run, boy.
We were living in a fantasy.
    We won the race.
    Got out of the place.
I went back home, got a brand new face
    For the boys on MTV,
But today the way I play the game has got to change.
    Oh, yeah.
Now I'm gonna get myself happy.
I think there's something you should know.
I think it's time I stopped the show.
There's something deep inside of me.
There's someone I forgot to be.
Take back your picture in a frame.
Don't think that I'll be back again.
I just hope you understand .
Sometimes the clothes do not make the man.
All we have to do, now,
Is take these lies and make them true somehow.
    All we have to see
Is that I don't belong to you,
And you don't belong to me.
    Freedom;
You've gotta give for what you take.
    Freedom;
You've gotta give for what you take.
Well it looks like the road to heaven,
But it feels like the road to hell.
When I knew which side my bread was buttered
I took the knife as well.
    Posing for another picture.
    Everybody's got to sell,
But when you shake your ass
    They notice fast,
And some mistakes were built to last.
    That's what you get,
I say, that's what you get.
That's what you get for changing your mind,
    And after all this time
    I just hope you understand,
    Sometimes the clothes
    Do not make the man.
I'll hold on to my freedom.
May not be what you want from me.
Just the way it's got to be.
    Lose the face now.
    I've got to live

    Freedom '90
  • George Michael was trying to free himself from the shackles of Sony, which was his record label at the time. They created an image for him to promote his Faith album, and Michael was now trying to distance himself from it. In the video all the Faith trademarks explode: the jacket, the jukebox, the guitar. Michael was the victim of a Saturday Night Live skit mocking the video.
  • When the video first came out people were quite shocked because George Michael was barely in it (he doesn't appear in "Praying for Time," also from the album, at all). This was part of his effort to distance himself from his image and bring the focus to his music, and he did it in a very clever way for this video: He got a bunch of Supermodels to lip sync for him. Appearing in the clip were Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Tatjana Patitz. These five had recently appeared together on the cover of the UK edition of Vogue magazine, which gave Michael the idea.

The video was directed by David Fincher, who was a top music video director before moving on to feature films like Fight Club, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Social Network. The "Freedom '90" clip was shot in London over a weekend.
  • In the video, there is a man shot from the waist down - he walks and he scratches his boxers. That is Michael. His scene goes with the line, "When you shake your ass they notice fast some mistakes were built to last," referring to the flack he got from his tush in "Faith," and the consequent spoof of him and his butt on SNL.
  • The song is autobiographical and chronicles Michael's Wham days with lines like: "Heaven knows we sure had some fun boy, what a kick just a buddy and me, we had every bigshot goodtime band on the run boy, we were living in a fantasy."
  • In 1996, Robbie Williams released a cover version as his first single after leaving the boy-band Take That. His version tanked, but Williams recovered and went on to a successful solo career with his 1997 album Life Thru a Lens.
  • Alicia Keys performed this as part of her set during the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. While she was performing this, Kid Rock and Tommy Lee got in a fight that was likely fueled by the presence of Pamela Anderson, who was part of the show. The incident did not appear in the broadcast, but a camera caught the end of the melee and MTV made this video available online.
  • The year was added to the song title, originally released as "Freedom," so as not to confuse it with the hit single by Wham! also titled "Freedom."

What If I Was Nothing Lyrics

Just let it go, don’t want to haunt you anymore
I can’t be sure I know just what we’re fight for
I know that you’re scared and that you’re thinking I may go
I’m not leaving, I’m not leaving

And if you’re thinking I might, might be lead astray
    Just remember this one question

What If I Was Nothing? what if this is true?
What if I was nothing? girl, nothing without you
So what if I was angry? what did you think I’d do?
I told you that I love you, girl, I’m nothing without you

I know it’s hard, it seems that we’ve worked at this so long
Soft and foolish pride that tells us we’re not wrong
I hear your voice, you tell me that you’ll never go
And I believe it, I believe it

And if you’re thinking I might, might be lead astray
    Just remember this one question

What if I was nothing? What if this is true?
What if I was nothing, girl, nothing without you
So what if I was angry, what did you think I’d do?
I told you that I love you, girl, I’m nothing without you

And we can keep this going on, we’ll make it work some way
And every step, it makes us stronger every day

And if you’re thinking I might, might be lead astray
    Just remember this one question

What if I was nothing? What if this is true?
What if I was nothing, girl, nothing without you
So what if I was angry, what did you think I’d do?

    What If I Was Nothing
  • Vocalist Phil Labonte found this a difficult track to lay down. He explained to Loudwire : "When I was in the studio, me and Adam (Dutkiewicz, producer) were talking when I was doing vocals and stuff. When it comes to singing, I'm a machete, I'm not a scalpel. I'm far better at screaming or yelling in key than I am at soft, tender singing so the song was a struggle to do."

"It was cool that we actually got it done," he continued. "There were moments when I thought, 'I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it sound the way I want it to sound.' It was tough, trying to make a machete act like a scalpel."
  • Labonte admitted to The Pulse of Radio that initially not everyone in the band was on board with the song. "There was definitely conflict in the beginning," he said. "There are people that come from, you know, a school of thought that like this is what you're supposed to do and that's what you do. But you either play inside the safe zone or you really push the envelope, and pushing the envelope is a risk. That's the thing about trying new stuff - you're not gonna know when it's gonna, you know, strike a chord with people. You have no idea."

    Little Bird Lyrics

I look up to the Little Bird
    That glides across the sky
    He sings the clearest melody
It makes me want to cry
It makes me want to sit right down
    and cry cry cry, yeah.

I walk along the city streets
So dark with rage and fear
    And I
I wish that I could be that bird
    And fly away from here
I wish I had the wings to fly away from here, yeah.

But Mamma I feel so low
    Mamma where do I go?
    Mamma what do I know?
Mamma we reap what we sow
They always said that you knew best
But this little bird's fallen out of that nest now
I've got a feeling that it might have been blessed
So I've just got to put these wings to test

For I am just a troubled soul
    Who's weighted...
    Weighted to the ground
Give me the strength to carry on
Till I can lay my burden down
Give me the strength to lay this burden down
    down down yea
Give me the strength to lay it down
Lay it down, Lay it down.

But Mamma I feel so low
    Mamma where do I go?
    Mamma what do I know?
Mamma we reap what we sow.

We held this audition that was probably one of the most surreal experiences of my life. Sophie and I were in the darkness of a theatre, while people queued up to present their version of what they thought could be a potential 'Annie Lennox' performance. It was the maddest thing. I was literally curled up in a ball with stifled hysterics on the floor of the theatre."

    Holding On For Life Lyrics

Girl take a seat, rest your weary bones
Your secrets safe in my hands
Tell me about the years and
    Let me buy an hour
    Maybe help me to understand
    Ooh ain't nobody callin'
    Ain't nobody home
What a lovely day to be lonely

    You're Holding On For Life
    Holding on for life oh
    Holding on for love.
    You're holding on for life
    Holding on for life oh
    Holding on for love.

    Light another cigarette
    Burning in the cold
Waiting on the street for your man
You're trying not to look so
    Young and miserable
You gotta get your kicks while you can
In the lighted corner, sitting on your own
What a lovely day to be lonely

    You're holding on for life
    Holding on for life oh
    Holding on for love.
    You're holding on for life
    Holding on for life oh
    Holding on for love.

Well you might belong to another time
Still you have to carry on here
No where else to go and you never know
What to hide and what to show, no

    You're holding on for life
    Holding on for life oh
    Holding on for love.
    You're holding on for life
    Holding on for life oh
    Holding on for love.

    Holding On For Life
  • Broken Bells are an indie rock duo comprising vocalist James Mercer of The Shins and producer Brian "Danger Mouse" Burton. This is the lead single from their After The Disco album.
  • The song finds vocalist James Mercer channeling his inner Barry Gibb. "I was in the vocal booth and I was like, 'Let me try this falsetto thing,'" he recalled to NME. "But it was when we doubled the track that I was like, 'Oh my God, it's the f---ing Bee Gees! On a Shins record, that song would sound like a joke, but with Broken Bells, you change the context and it works really well."
  • The After the Disco album comes paired with a sci-fi short film directed by Jacob Gentry and starring Anton Yelchin (Star Trek Into Darkness, Terminator Salvation) and Kate Mara (House of Cards, American Horror Story). The second segment shares its title with this song, which features prominently in the promo. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gentry said he envisioned the video as a successor to another Broken Bells clip, 2010's "The Ghost Inside." "The last video we had done for 'The Ghost Inside' was more like a narrative short film done in a similar way, so we thought this could be a spiritual sequel," he said. "But we wanted this to be more fantastical, psychedelic — like Logan's Run and Barbarella — but still live in the Broken Bells universe. The vision for it is really a collaboration between Brian [Burton], James, the designer Jacob Escebedo, and myself coming together and vibing out on images and ideas that inspire the album and vice versa."
  • Mercer told NME regarding this song: "Brian is quite cynical about relationships, but this has a lot of my lines that are more sympathetic."

The Ballad Of Curtis Loew Lyrics

Well, I used to wake the mornin'
    Before the rooster crowed
    Searchin' for soda bottles
    To get myself some dough
Brought 'em down to the corner
    Down to the country store
Cash 'em in, and give my money
To a man named Curtis Loew

Old Curt was a black man
    With white curly hair
When he had a fifth of wine
He did not have a care
He used to own an old Dobro
Used to play it 'cross his knee
I'd give old Curt my money
He'd play all day for me

    Play me a song
    Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew
Well, I got your drinkin' money
    Tune up your Dobro
    People said he was useless
    Them people all were fools
'Cause Curtis Loew was the finest picker
    To ever play the blues

    He looked to be sixty
    And maybe I was ten
    Mama used to whoop me
But I'd go see him again
I'd clap my hands, stomp my feet
    Try to stay in time
He'd play me a song or two
Then take another drink of wine

    Play me a song
    Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew
Well, I got your drinkin' money
    Tune up your Dobro
    People said he was useless
    Them people all were fools
'Cause Curtis Loew was the finest picker
    To ever play the blues

    Yes, sir

On the day old Curtis died
    Nobody came to pray
    Ol' preacher said some words
And they chunked him in the clay
    Well, he lived a lifetime
    Playin' the black man's blues
And on the day he lost his life
That's all he had to lose

    Play me a song
    Curtis Loew, hey Curtis Loew
I wish that you was here so
    Everyone would know
    People said he was useless
    Them people all were fools
'Cause Curtis you're the finest picker
    To ever play the blues

    The Ballad Of Curtis Loew
  • Curtis Loew is not the name of an actual person from Ronnie Van Zant's life. Rather, Curtis Loew is a composite of different people, including Skynyrd lead guitarist Ricky Medlocke's grandfather, Shorty Medlocke. Contrary to the song's lyrics, Shorty was not black. In a 1997 interview on the Lyve From Steel Town album, the band was quoted as jokingly saying, "We needed to 'color' the song up."
  • A dobro is a resonator guitar with a mechanical amplifier. It was originally released in 1927. Gibson now owns the rights to the dobro guitar.
  • According to Ronnie Van Zant's widow Judy Van Zant Jenness, the unusual spelling of "Loew" was Skynyrd guitarist Ed King's idea. When he was writing the liner notes for the Second Helping album, he decided to name the character after Loew's Theater - thus giving an old Bluesman a Jewish name.

    Deeper Lyrics

Been thinking 'bout the little thing you said
Doesn't sink in, and you fought above my head
    'Cause I'm scared, I can't lie
I don't feel the same inside
I can't decide if I have the heart to confess

And I don't think I'm ready to go in this heavy
I thought we would take it slow
And now you got that feelin'
You say that you mean it
But for me, I just don't know

    Ooh, ooh, ooh
    I can't see it, I don't feel it
I need to dig a little Deeper
    I can't say that, I won't say it back
I need to dig a little deeper
    Dig a little deeper (Oh)
    You, you, oh!
    You, you, oh, you!
    Ooh, ooh, ooh
    Dig a little deeper (Oh)
    You, you, oh!
    You, you, oh, you!

    There ain't no contract
And I go when I choose to leave
    And I don't want that
That's not something that I need
And you know that it takes two
And I don't feel the same as you
    When I think back on
Does he know I always knew?

And I don't think I'm ready to go in this heavy
I thought we would take it slow
And now you got that feelin'
You say that you mean it
But for me, I just don't know

    Ooh, ooh, ooh
    I can't see it, I don't feel it
I need to dig a little deeper
    I can't say that, I won't say it back
I need to dig a little deeper
    Dig a little deeper (Oh)
    You, you, oh!
    You, you, oh, you!
    Ooh, ooh, ooh
    Dig a little deeper (Oh)
    You, you, oh!
You, you, oh, you! (So dig a little deeper)

Don't feel it in my soul
For you, I just don't know (Ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Dig a little deeper) I just don't know
Don't feel it in my soul
For you, I just don't know (Ooh, ooh, ooh)
    (Nanana) I just don't know

    I can't!

    I can't see it, I don't feel it
I need to dig a little deeper (Ooh, ooh, ooh)
I can't see you, foresee you
I need to dig a little deeper (Ooh, ooh, ooh)
    Dig a little deeper, oh
    You, you, oh!
You, you, oh, you! (Dig a little deeper)
    Ooh, ooh, ooh
    Dig a little deeper
    You, you, oh!
You, you, oh, you! (Dig a little deeper)

  • This sensual slice of neo-soul is the debut single released by Ella Eyre. The British singer-songwriter first came to notoriety following her contributions to Rudimental's "Waiting All Night," Naughty Boy and Wiz Khalifa's "Think About It" and Tinie Tempah's "Someday (Place in the Sun)."
  • Ella Eyre said of her debut release: "I've always wanted to hit people in the face with my music, rather than tickle them. I've always been into punchy, loud songs - passionate, with a message. And I've always been really lyrical - I love the idea that someone has felt the same as me. I love honesty, brutality and rawness."
  • Eyre explained the song's meaning during an interview with MTV UK. "The story behind the song is basically an experience that I had with a guy," she said. "You know when you're young and you're having fun and it's all new and exciting and then they drop the three-word deal breaker on you and you're just like 'no, why did you do that?!' So then I just put it into a song, there you go."
