Hold Tight Lyrics

Every birthday, every birthday

They hold on tight
Yeah, they hold on tight
Ooh, they hold on tight
Them lips won't let me go
(Lips won't let me go, lips won't let me go, oh)

They hold on tight
Yeah, they hold on tight
Ooh, they hold on tight
Them lips won't let me go

Don't let this go to your head
But you're the best, I've ever had
Not to mention
That thing is swollen
You got me oh so in a trance

Something like a Ziploc, but a lip lock
Want you wrapped around my arm like a wrist watch
Oh, so hard walking out
Got me stuck like crazy glue, ooh

They hold on tight
Yeah, they hold on tight
Ooh, they hold on tight
Them lips won't let me go
(Lips won't let me go, lips won't let me go, oh)

They hold on tight
Yeah, they hold on tight
Ooh, they hold on tight
Them lips won't let me go

Got me tossing, turning in the bed
Your place is where I rather be instead
You don't know your strength
Missing you is like adrenaline
Oh, when you got me in a gridlock
What a great spot
Yeah, that turned up kind of love and it just won't stop
No, so hard walking out
Got me stuck like crazy glue, ooh babe

They hold on tight
Yeah, they hold on tight
Ooh, they hold on tight
Them lips won't let me go
(Lips won't let me go, lips won't let me go, oh)

They hold on tight
Yeah, they hold on tight
Ooh, they hold on tight
Them lips won't let me go, no babay

Holding back the faces I would make
I'm a fan and you're the rock star
Making it hard on me
Visualize a monster
'Cause you're too bad for me
Shot that arrow, I'm hit
Need you right near me
Trying to maintain, so don't mind if I turn away (no, no)
I try to maintain, so don't mind if I turn away

They hold on tight
Yeah, they hold on tight
Ooh, they hold on tight
Them lips won't let me go
(Lips won't let me go, lips won't let me go, oh)

They hold on tight
Yeah, they hold on tight
Ooh, they hold on tight
Them lips won't let me go

Hold Tight
  • This sultry, R&B-centered ode was released as the third installment of Justin's Music Mondays series. The song finds the singer haunted by the memories of an unforgettable kiss. He croons:

    "Something like a zip-lock
    But a lip lock
Want you wrapped around me like a wrist watch."

Many believe his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez is the focus of this tune. This is supported by Justin's manager, Scooter Braun, who told Billboard magazine that the songs featured on his Music Mondays series were created while the pop superstar was "going through a tough time" on the road. He was referring to Justin's Believe Tour - the pair broke up during the first few months of the concert run.

    Drugs Or Me Lyrics

    Stay with me
You're the one that I need
    You make the hardest things
    Seem easy

    Keep my heart
    Somewhere drugs don't go
    Were the sun shines lay
    Always keep me close

    If only you could see
    The stranger next to me
You promised you promised that you're done
But i can't tell you from the drugs

    Don't let go
    Dig a great big hole
    Down an endless hole
    We'll both go

    You're so blind
You can't see me this time
    Hope comes from inside
And I feel so low tonight

    If only you could see
    The stranger next to me
You promised you promised that you're done
But I can't tell you from the drugs

    I wish you could see
This face in front of me
you're sorry swear it you're done
But I can't tell you from the drugs

    (Oh)
    (Oh)

(Take me) I need your help
(So far away) To pull me up take the pain
    (Take me) Out from me
(So far away) Out from me

(Take me) If only you could see (I need your help)
(So far away) The stranger next to me (To pull me up take the pain)
(Take me) You promised you promised that you're done (Out from me)
(So far away) But I can't tell you from the drugs (Out from me)

(Take me) I wish that you could see (I need your help)
(So far away) This face in front of me (To pull me up take the pain)
(Take me) You're sorry you swear it you're done (Out from me)
(So far away) But I can't tell you from the drugs (Out from me)

    Keep my heart
    Somewhere drugs don't go
    Where the sun shines low
    always keep me close

    Young Love Lyrics

    Young Love
  • This song about a first love was released as the lead single from Kip Moore's sophomore album. The Country singer-songwriter penned the tune with his longtime friends Dan Couch ("Hey Pretty Girl," "Somethin' 'Bout a Truck") and Weston Davis. "Being able to write songs with a couple of your best friends and then actually have some success with it is something every up and coming songwriter dreams about, and I have a hard time believing that we've achieved that sometimes. Beyond being friends, Dan and Weston are two of the most talented guys I know, and we always push each other to be better," said Moore. "This song is about being in love so much that the rest of the world doesn't matter, it is just about those two people. Especially being young, everyone else might not take it as seriously as you are feeling it. I think most people have been there and we wanted to tell that story."
  • Moore explained to Billboard magazine that this is a 'us against the world' song. He recalled: "We (Davis and him) were talking with Dan (Couch) about his marriage and the struggles they went through to get where they are. Then, we got to talking about being younger kids. I remember being sixteen in Panama City, and sneaking away with this girl I really liked. You get in trouble, and the parents hate you for it. We just started talking about the crazy things you will do for that person. It's one of those songs where it's you against everybody else, and you make it through."

    Skinned Lyrics

I'll make a shoehorn outta your skin
I'll make a lampshade of durable skin
And oh, don't you know that I'm always feelin' able
When I'm sittin' home and I'm carving out your navel

When will I realize that this skin I'm in
    Hey, it isn't mine
And when will the kill be too much meat for me to hide on

Hey, I could really use a couple of hands
To complete one hell of a plant stand
Oh, and don't you know that I'm caught here in the middle
Making rib cages into coffee tables
I'm just makin' em into coffee tables

And when I realize that this skin I'm in
    Hey, it isn't mine
And when will the thrill be too much meat for me to find anymore

Oh, because you know I can't hide
But oh how hard I try
But this is just the shape I'm in, oh yeah
And though you know I can't hide
But oh how hard I try
But this is just the shape I'm in

    Skinned
  • This song is about a deranged killer named Ed Gein who was from Plainfield, Wisconsin. He would go to cemeteries at night and dig up graves, removing the bodies of women who resembled his mother. Gein would then dismember the bodies and use the skin to make lamp shades and other assorted items. He was also a murderer - one day he killed Bernice Worden, a clerk in a hardware store, and gutted her body out like a deer in his barn. When police arrested him they found a human heart on the stove along with other body parts throughout the house.
  • A track from the band's second album, lead singer Shannon Hoon wrote this song after reading a book about serial killers that included Gein. He wrote this song believing that there are two sides to everything and is showing the humorous side to the Ed Gein story.

Blind Melon wasn't the first band with a song about Gein; Slayer released "Dead Skin Mask" about him in 1990.
  • In our interview with Blind Melon guitarist Christopher Thorn , he talked about coming up with the track to this song: "While writing songs for the Soup record, I has buying different instruments, and doing some songwriting experiments with them. I bought a banjo, so I wrote 'Skinned' just for fun. I never imagined Shannon would choose to write lyrics over that music. It was odd and really just so I could learn how to play banjo."
  • Christopher Thorn brought a recording rig with him on Blind Melon's tours, so it was his room that Shannon Hoon would visit when he wanted to lay down a vocal idea. "I remember being on tour in Middle America and him singing the vocal to 'Skinned,' Thorn said. "I thought it was hilarious and sick at the same time."

Why Don't You And I Lyrics

Since the moment I spotted you
Like walking 'round with little wings on my shoes
My stomach's filled with the butterflies (ooh) and it's alright
Bouncin' round from cloud to cloud
I got the feeling like I'm never gonna come down
    If I said I didn't like it then you'd know I'd lied

Every time I try to talk to you
    I get tongue-tied
Turns out that everything I say to you
Comes out wrong and never comes out right

    [Chorus]
So I'll say 'Why Don't You And I get together and take on the world and be together forever
Heads we will and tails we'll try again
So I say why don't you and I hold each other and fly to the moon and straight on to heaven
Cause without you they're never going to let me in

    Whens this fever gonna break?
I think I've handled more than any man can take
I'm like a love-sick puppy chasin' you around
    (Ooh)And it's alright
Bouncin round from cloud to cloud
I got the feeling like I'm never gonna come down
    If I said I didn't like it then you'd know I'd lied

Every time I try to talk to you
    I get tongue-tied
Turns out that everything I say to you
Comes out wrong and never comes out right

    [Chorus]

    (Only second time through)
And slowly I begin to realize this is never gonna end
Right about the same time you walk by
And I say 'Oh here we go again' oh

Every time I try to talk to you
    I get tongue-tied
Turns out that everything I say to you
Comes out wrong and never comes out right

    [Chorus: x2]

    It Won't Stop Lyrics

I love when you pulling up in your jeep
    Bumpin' all your beats
J's on, with your shades on
Just to bring me something to eat
You the man up in these streets
But when it comes to my heart

That don't mean a thing no
So I hop up in your ride
Ooh its hot as hell outside
    Got the top down
    With the doors closed
With your hand on my thigh
    Drive slow
    Take your time

Every little thing you do got me feeling some type of way (way)
When you gimme that thunder you make my summer rain
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh)
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh) Everyday everyday

And it wont stop, oh oh ooh
And it wont stop, oh oh ooh yeah

With every single part of me
My love for you is constantly
    Forever and ever on repeat
    On repeat
And it wont stop, oh oh ooh

I love when we pulling up to the beach
    Sand all in my feet
    Sun down, with nobody around
That's one hell of a scene
    You rockin' my body
    Rock rock the boat, Aaliy-ah
    Don't it sound familiar

'Cause it feel like, ah ah aye aye
    Lookin' up in spa-ace
    Juts me and my ba-ae
And it feels so ama-azing, oh all night whoa

Every little thing you do got me feeling some type of way (way)
When you gimme that thunder you make my summer rain
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh)
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh) Everyday everyday

With every single part of me
My love for you is constantly
    Forever and ever on repeat
    On repeat
And it wont stop, oh oh ooh

    Everyday, everyday
    I cant breathe
You take my breath, away from me
Here's my heart, you got the key
    Put that on eternity
    I love you til infinity
    Infinity, infinity, infinity, infinity

    My everything
    My everything
And when I think about it
Don't be making me wait baby

    Wont ever stop
My heart wont skip a beat baby
And it'll keep goin' on, goin' on, goin' on (Goin' on)

And it wont stop, oh oh ooh
And it wont stop, oh oh ooh yeah

  • Sevyn Streeter is an American recording artist and singer–songwriter, who was formerly a member of the girl groups TG4 and RichGirl before signing a solo deal with Chris Brown's CBE imprint. Streeter was known as Se7en when she was part of RichGirl and as Sevyn when she supplied backing vocals on Brown's Fortune album, most prominently on "Party Hard / Cadillac").

Streeter has also developed a successful career as a songwriter. Her writing credits include a number of songs for Chris Brown, such as the hit singles "Yeah 3x" and "Fine China" as well as Ariana Grande's breakthrough tune,"The Way."
  • This was released as the second single from Streeter's debut solo EP. It was helmed by Philadelphia producer Diplo, who has provided the soundscape for a number of Pop hits, including Usher's "Climax" and Beyoncé's "Run the World (Girls)." Chris Brown jumped on the song's remix.
  • The music video for the remix was directed by Chris Brown. Breezy also appears in the clip along with NBA player Dorell Wright as Streeter's love interest.

    Existentialism On Prom Night Lyrics

    Existentialism On Prom Night
  • In a very limited nutshell, Existentialism is the study of human existence and the doctrine that our actions have consequences and certain things are not predestined to happen; that we really do have control over our own lives. This appears to tie in with the line in the song that stands out most, "Sing like you think no one's listening." In essence, lead singer John Nolan is saying that in high school (i.e. prom night) we care far too much about the reactions of others to our actions and that true happiness lies not in what a group thinks of you but what one special person thinks of you. It's sort of a carpe diem type of thing.

"I remember Richard looking up and saying, 'Hell, if the three of us together can't write a half-decent song, we should just pack it in,'" Spiteri recalled to the Daily Telegraph.
  • The video stars Spiteri, This Is England actress Vicky McClure, and Ruta Gedmintas from Spooks Code 9 on a night out down their local pub. "It was a pleasure working with Vicky and Ruta as they're such great actresses and good friends of mine, so the whole day was easy and enjoyable," Spiteri told Digital Spy . "To be honest, when you're in a pub having a drink with your mates it feels more like a night out than a day at work. I thought we were genius at acting drunk!"
  • The song was described by Spiteri as: "One woman talking to another who's going through a really shi--y time. Absolutely a through-and-through woman's song."

Waiting For A Star To Fall Lyrics

I hear your name whispered on the wind
It's a sound that makes me cry
I hear a song blow again and again
Through my mind and I don't know why
I wish I didn't feel so strong about you
Like happiness and love revolve around you

    Trying to catch your heart
Is like trying to catch a star
So many people love you baby
That must be what you are

Waiting For A Star To Fall
And carry your heart into my arms
    That's where you belong
    In my arms baby, yeah

I've learned to feel what I cannot see
But with you I lose that vision
I don't know how to dream your dream
So I'm all caught up in superstition
I want to reach out and pull you to me
Who says I should let a wild one go free

    Trying to catch your heart
Is like trying to catch a star
But I can't love you this much baby
And love you from this far

Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
    That's where you belong
    In my arms baby, yeah

    Waiting (however long...)
I don't like waiting (I'll wait for you...)
It's so hard waiting (don't be too long...)
Seems like waiting (makes me love you even more...)

Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
    That's where you belong
    In my arms baby, yeah

Waiting For A Star To Fall
  • Boy Meets Girl are American songwriters George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam. They spoke with us about this song and explained how they got together:

Shannon: "We met at a large Seattle socialite wedding for one of the Boeing daughters of Boeing Airplanes. Then we met again later when I went to see George and his singing partner at the time at a club and thought, 'Wow, they're really good. And cute.'"

George: "I had been pretty smitten by Shannon when I first saw her at the wedding. It was Susan Boeing of Boeing Companies, and all the Seattle musicians at the time were hired to perform some function at the wedding, either performing at the wedding or the after party or something. I was singing in the choir in the loft, and Shannon was singing the solo, so her voice was going out throughout the entire church, and I thought, 'Oh my goodness, where did that voice come from?'"

Shannon: "We met a year later and I ended up joining his duo at the time to make it a trio so we could have extra harmony layers. We played the Seattle club scene and up and down the coast, until we got stone tired of playing clubs and dealing with people who were on their way to being drunk, and then well past that line. We ended up moving down to Los Angeles after we wrote and recorded a batch of songs, and sent tapes out and actually got a response from one of those wild card tapes we sent out."
  • George and Shannon wrote Whitney Houston's hits "How Will I Know" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)." They got the idea for this song when they were at a Whitney Houston concert at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles:

Shannon: "It's a beautiful venue. It's an outdoor kind of amphitheater built on the Greek forum idea, and so it has an open air - no ceiling. Whitney had just finished playing How Will I Know."

George: "It was a big night for us. There we are in a crowd of 8,000 people standing on their feet cheering to one of our songs."

Shannon: "It was cool. At the end I looked up at the sky - because it was a clear night, the stars were out - and a star just shot across the sky just right through the middle of the dome. I just quickly jotted down a line, 'Waiting for a star to fall,' and stuffed it back in my purse. As we were driving home, I told George about it, and said, 'I think I'll write a lyric around that.' We thought, 'That's fortuitous, we got the idea at a Whitney concert, we should send it to Clive (Davis) for Whitney for her next album.' So we did, and he sent it back saying it wasn't what they were looking for because they were doing a little bit of a direction shift with her. So we thought, 'Well, we'll just do it ourselves, cool.' So it worked out fine for us to do it."
  • George and Shannon got married after Reel Life was released, but they were going through a great deal of turmoil in their relationship while they were writing the album:

Shannon: "Things were difficult to talk through sometimes. We just ended up keeping our musical diary going and that really was our uniting factor. So a lot of the songs are reflective of that, even if they sound initially upbeat musically, I think really it was a tough time for us, and thank God for music."

George: "Yeah, and there was a level at which I think Shannon and I had a mutual admiration for each other and the process of writing together. And also, it's a relationship thing where if Shannon needed to get a thought out musically, I wanted to assist her, and I think it was both ways: if we had a song that was kind of a sensitive topic, there was a level that the two of us would just write our way through it."

Shannon: "It's a lament for what appears to be unattainable to you. It does have some poignancy, it did for us at that time."
  • Arif Mardin, who did a lot of work with Aretha Franklin, produced the album. This is the song that convinced him to work with Boy Meets Girl, and he helped secure the song for them. After Whitney Houston turned down the song, Robert Palmer heard it and wanted it for an artist he was producing, so he put a hold on the song, which is kind of a gentleman's agreement giving him rights to the song for a while. Arif thought George and Shannon should record it and was friends with Palmer, so he called Robert and convinced him to relinquish the song.
  • In 2004, Mylo did a mash-up of this with "Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes for a song called "In My Arms." In March 2005, this song was remixed by both Cabin Crew and Sunset Strippers, with the Cabin Crew version hitting #4 UK and Sunset Strippers reaching #3. Says Shannon, "It's really an honor when a decade and more later, somebody hears your song and they've got an inspiration about it. And I even read, I think it was Mylo, saying, 'This is one of the most saccharine love songs I've ever heard,' and yet he used it. There was something about it that caught his ear. So once I got over my momentary offense with that, I thought, 'You know, this is cool, he used it, it's fun, it's his version of creativity.' Adds George, "I really loved that he had this little sultry groove that he'd come up with. It actually had a real slinky sort of cocktail hour groove and was very cool. But the one that really caught my ear was Cabin Crew. They were an Australian couplet, remixers, that did a really cool, real tight sort of a pop song rehash of Waiting For A Star To Fall the chorus, and it was just a really tight arrangement. I was really impressed with what they did."
  • George and Shannon were married throughout the '90s and broke up around 2000. They have a daughter together and continue their musical partnership. In 2003, they released The Wonderground, an album dealing with the complexities and emotions of their relationship. (Thanks to George and Shannon for speaking with us about this song. Check out the Boy Meets Girl website at www.boymeetsgirlmusic.com.)
  • This was played under the ending credits of the movie Three Men And A Little Lady.

    Ordinary Love Lyrics

The sea wants to kiss the golden shore
    The sunlight warms your skin
All the beauty that's been lost before wants to find us again

I can't fight you any more, it's you I'm fighting for
The sea throws rock together but time leaves us polished stones

We can't fall any further if
    We can't feel Ordinary Love
And we can't reach any higher,
If we can't deal with ordinary love

Birds fly high in the summer sky and rest on the breeze.
The same wind will take care of you and I.
We'll build our house in the trees.

Your heart is on my sleeve
Did you put it there with a magic marker?
For years I would believe that the would couldn't wash it away

'Cause we can't fall any further if
    We can't feel ordinary love
And we can't reach any higher,
If we can't deal with ordinary love

Are we tough enough for ordinary love?

We can't fall any further if
    We can't feel ordinary love
And we can't reach any higher,
If we can't deal with ordinary love

We can't fall any further, if
    We can't feel ordinary love
And we can't reach any higher,
If we can't deal with ordinary love

    Ordinary Love
  • U2 penned this soaring anthem specifically for the biopic Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, which tells the story of the South African activist's early life and imprisonment. U2's relationship with the revered leader goes back to 1985 when Bono was part of Little Steven Van Zandt's 1985 Artists United Against Apartheid collaboration, which brought attention to his plight. Three years later the band recorded the song "Silver And Gold," which was inspired by the then still imprisoned Mandela. Bono went on to work on behalf of Mandela's 46664 AIDS charity, even co-writing the organisation's theme song with the Clash singer Joe Strummer.

Harvey Weinstein, whose production company TWC is behind the movie, said: "When I asked U2 to consider writing a song for Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, it was the fastest 'yes' I have ever received. I think they did a brilliant job honouring the man and the leader they have known for over 20 years."
  • The song was the first new U2 tune to be heard since 2010's "Soon," off the 360° at the Rose Bowl DVD set.
  • This won Best Original Song at the 2014 Golden Globes. Bono talked about the band's long association with Nelson Mandela and how he changed their lives during the acceptance speech: "This really is personal, very very personal," he said. "This man turned our life upside down, right side up. A man who refused to hate but he thought love would do a better job. We wrote a love song because its kind of what's extraordinary about the film. It's a dysfunctional love story."
  • When U2 received a call from studio executive Harvey Weinstein asking them to solicit a song for Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, the band were hard at work on their thirteenth studio album. "When we got the call from Harvey to say, 'It's happening, are you in?,' it was like, 'Oh man, really? Now?'" guitarist The Edge recalled to Billboard magazine. "But we just had to do it, with the history that we have with the man and the cause."

"It was hard to stop what we were doing," drummer Larry Mullen Jr. added. "We were on a roll-it was clear where we were going. And a decision was made to abandon ship, more or less, to focus on this."
  • To create the song, U2 obsessively tinkered and faltered before coming up with the end product. "We had three or four goes at it to get it right," Bono told Billboard magazine. "The lyrics changed course for me after reading his love letters to Winnie. Maybe the reason they asked us was to do a kind of 'Pride (In The Name Of Love)' moment, but it just did not seem correct. The only place in his life he felt that he was the loser in the conflict, that his enemies had prevailed, was in his marriage. He just couldn't make that work, and the most important part of that film is the love story."

    One More Sad Song Lyrics

One boy, one girl, two hearts, their world
    Time goes by, secrets rise
One more, sad song, tears shed, she's gone
She'd take it back, if she only could

All the perfect words they seem so wrong,
    She's gone
You wish that you could learn to see,
The door is closed and you wish you could be

Alone with you, alone with me
What can I do, I can not breath
My heart is torn, for all to see
Alone with you, alone with me.

Best friend, worst thing, she's been, cheating
    Friend deceives, she leaves
Last date. she cries, whispers, goodbye
She walks once more, out that door

    Please stay, don't go away
The hardest thing is letting go of you
    Stay, don't go away
The hardest thing is letting go of you
    What can I do?

Alone with you, alone with me, what can I do
I can not see, alone with, alone with

    One More Sad Song
  • All-American Rejects lead singer Tyson Ritter, just 18 when he wrote this song, drew inspiration from a girl who broke his heart. Early in the song, we hear about how their secrets started coming out, a theme Ritter would revisit a few years later in the song "Dirty Little Secret." What follows are the shots in the battlefield of love, with scattered thoughts of regret and wondering if they can move on. Things got better for Tyson once the album came out and the band became popular. He had a steady girlfriend for most of the '00s, so he had to refine his writing skills and make up various scenarios for many of the song on the band's next two albums.
