Chicks, Trucks, and Beer Lyrics

Map dots, parking lots
Honky-tonks, fields, and back roads
They come alive on Friday nights
Don't shut down 'til that rooster crows

It's just some rural route rockin'
I don't ever see it stopping
Got them good old boys hoppin' oh yeah
And they're spending every dollar
Make 'em hoop, and make 'em holler, woo hoo
It's how we do it up in here
Chicks, Trucks, and Beer

Tan lines, straight pipes
Longneck bottles iced down
That's all you need
That's the recipe to do it up big in a little town

It's just some rural route rockin'
I don't ever see it stopping
Got them good old boys hoppin' oh yeah
And they're spending every dollar
Make 'em hoop, and make 'em holler, woo hoo
It's how we do it up in here
Chicks, trucks, and beer

Colt ford, tell 'em how we roll
Short skirts, chrome, and dirt
Long legs, pony kegs
Loving on a tailgate
Friday night, I can't wait

It's just some rural route rockin'
I don't ever see it stopping
Got them good old boys hoppin' oh yeah
And they're spending every dollar
Make 'em hoop, and make 'em holler, woo hoo
It's how we do it up in here
Chicks, trucks, and beer
Chicks, trucks, and beer

If you get the chicks, then you got the trucks
And you got beer, then you got others
You can't have fear son, if you want speed
Now where we come from this is all we need
Them chicks, trucks, and beer
It's how we do around here every night
Chicks , trucks and beer
We keep it country, but we keep it real tight
Chicks, trucks, and beer
That's all we know
Chicks, trucks, and beer
Come on, Farr, let's take it down the dirt road
Ice cold beer, come on
They done let country come to town, y'all
Or maybe town came to country

Chicks, Trucks, and Beer
  • This Rhett Atkins and Craig Wiseman penned rock-inspired country song is one of four on Tyler Farr's Redneck Crazy album with an alcoholic beverage-referencing title. A number of the other tracks also mention drinking in the lyrics.

The Importance Of Being Idle Lyrics

I sold my soul for the second time, 'cause the man don't pay me.
I begged my landlord for some more time, he said "Son, the bill's waiting."
My best friend called me the other night, he said, "Man, are you crazy?"
My girlfriend told me to get a life, she said, "Boy, you lazy."

But I don't mind, as long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine.
I'll be fine - if you give me a minute, a man's got a limit.
I can't get a life if my heart's not in it.

    [Solo]

I don't mind, as long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine.
I'll be fine - if you give me a minute, a man's got a limit.
I can't get a life if my heart's not in it.

I lost my faith in the summertime, 'cause it don't stop raining.
The sky all day is black as night, but I know I can't blame me.
I begged my Doctor for one more line, he said "Son, words fail me!"
There ain't no place to be killing time, I guess I'm just lazy.

I don't mind, as long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine.
I'll be fine - if you give me a minute, a man's got a limit.
I can't get a life if my heart's not in it.

  • Noel Gallagher (Q magazine, May 2005): "A cross between The Kinks and The La's. About being a lazy so and so. I spent a lot of last summer just sitting around the house doing nothing, really impressed by my lack of drive."
  • The band doesn't appear in the video. It features the Welsh actor Rhys Ifans and a group of dancing undertakers lip-synching to the track. Rhys Ifans was for a short while the lead singer of Welsh band Super Furry Animals before they achieved chart success. He has been in the movies Notting Hill (1999), Little Nicky (2000) and Vanity Fare (2004).
  • The was Oasis' second consecutive #1 single in the UK, after "Lyla." It was the second time they had back to back #1 hits, but the first time in the same calendar year. "All Around The World" and "Go Let It Out" followed each other in the late '90s but had a gap of 2 years between them.
  • This is only the second time that an Oasis single with Noel rather than Liam on lead vocals has topped the UK charts, his first being "Don't Look Back In Anger" back in 1996.
  • This was Oasis' 19th straight Top 10 UK hit, beating a long standing record for a group that was previously held jointly by The Beatles and ABBA. The all-time record is held by Madonna, with a total of 34 in a row between 1984 and 1995.
  • The video was shot on Caradoc Street, East Greenwich, London. The band appears for about 5 seconds: Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Zak Starkey are playing cards on a coffin while Liam is sitting by a desk and Noel is shaving.
  • Some of the second verse, with the reference to begging his doctor for "One more line," seems to be referring to an actual event as this resembles Noel's account of how he gave up cocaine in 1998.

    Damaged Lyrics

I don't think I should be here, but maybe we can make it through the night
I don't know what I'm feeling, maybe that it's better somewhere else
Somewhere where my mind turns off and my heart becomes the guide
And maybe my guard is down but I don't seem to mind, oh

But I'm Damaged from the man that I was yesterday
Yeah, it's the damage from the life that in turn used to shadow me
And now it's over and done

You make me think I'm feeling, but you know I'm just a vulture on your heart
And I don't want to be this, I'm sorry I misled you from the start
To somewhere I've never been and I could never be
So maybe my time is up and I should let it be, oh

But I'm damaged from the man that I was yesterday
I guess I'm damaged from the breath that I won't led me astray
And now it's over and done

Yeah, I'm damaged from the man that I was yesterday
I guess I'm damaged from the breath that I won't led me astray
I guess I'm damaged from the chances I made yesterday
And you know I'm standing still, there's nothing more I can say
And now it's over and done

    Damaged
  • The Winery Dogs are a Rock trio formed in New York City in 2012 by former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portney , Mr. Big bassist Billy Sheehan and ex-Poison guitarist/singer Richie Kotzen. This is a track from their eponymous debut album. Portnoy said regarding the songwriting process for The Winery Dogs set: "In all cases, the music was the very first element and from there, Richie would start melodies on top of it. Sometimes the final lyrics were there, coming up on the spot, and other times he would take the melodies and write lyrics later. There were a couple of examples of Richie having something and bringing it in. In those cases, like 'Damaged' and 'Regret', we just left them. Because in those two particular cases, the songs were great as they were."

    Ruin Lyrics

The knowledge that seeking the favor of another
    Means the murder of self.
    This is the resolution
    The end of all progress
    The death of evolution
    It bleeds all life away.

Silence speeds the path to the streams of solace that run so few and narrow.
Brooks that babble the sounds of torture.
    Sounds of torture
    You will one day rise
To flood the banks of the chosen.
This is the art of Ruin.

    This is the resolution
    The end of all progress
    The death of evolution
    It bleeds all life away.

    It bleeds all life away.

I will show you all that I have mastered
    Fear.

    Ruin
  • "Ruin" is the opening track to Lamb of God's As The Palaces Burn album, which the band produced with Devin Townsend .

The song is very dark, calling forth what leads to "the art of ruin." The band's lyricists, Mark Morton and Randy Blythe , often express the shadowy side of their personalities in their songs, which suits their genre. They point out, however, that they are not a miserable bunch; it's just that happy songs aren't very metal.
  • Dan Rush directed the music video, which shows the band performing the song in what appears to be a Mexican church.

    I'm screaming, I'm hurting,
    I'm begging you for mercy

Strumming me no longer, beating like a drummer
Oh, I just wanna love that, I just wanna love that

Forgive me and I'll forgive you

Waiting for a girl who's got curlers in her hair
Waiting for a girl she has no money anywhere

    Waiting for a Factory Girl

Waiting for a girl and her knees are much too fat
Waiting for a girl who wears scarves instead of hats
Her zipper's broken down the back
    Waiting for a factory girl

Waiting for a girl and she gets me into fights
Waiting for a girl we get drunk on Friday night
She's a sight for sore eyes
    Waiting for a factory girl

Waiting for a girl and she's got stains all down her dress
Waiting for a girl and my feet are getting wet
    She ain't come out yet

    Factory Girl
  • This song is a great example of Mick Jagger taking on a persona, which he often did in his lyrics. Here, he sings from the perspective of a guy who is waiting for his girlfriend - a destitute, disheveled sort - to get out of work at the factory. It's quite a contrast to Jagger's reality: a glamorous Rock star who often dated models.
  • Dave Mason, who did some session work for Jimi Hendrix and was a member of the band Traffic, played the mandolin on this song.
  • Ric Grech was brought in to play fiddle on this track. Grech was a violinist and bass player who was a member of the band Family in the '60s and went on to play in Blind Faith with Eric Clapton. He also played on Gram Parsons' solo albums in the '70s, and he appears on Ron Wood and Ronnie Lane's 1976 Mahoney's Last Stand project.
  • Drummer Charlie Watts: "On Factory Girl, I was doing something you shouldn't do, which is playing the tabla with sticks instead of trying to get that sound using your hand, which Indian tabla players do, though it's an extremely difficult technique and painful if you're not trained."
  • Guitarist Keith Richards: "To me 'Factory Girl' felt something like Molly Malone, an Irish jig; one of those ancient Celtic things that emerge from time to time, or an Appalachian song. In those days I would just come up and play something, sitting around the room. I still do that today."

    Now that I've worn out
    I've worn out the world
I'm on my knees in fascination
    Looking through the night
And the moon's never seen me before
    But I'm Reflecting Light

    I rode the pain down
    Got off and looked up
    Looked into your eyes
    The lost open windows
    All around
My dark heart lit up the skies

    Now that I've worn out
    I've worn out the world
I'm on my knees in fascination
    Looking through the night
And the moon's never seen me before
    But I'm reflecting light

    Give up the ground
    Under your feet
Hold on to nothing for good
Turn and run at the mean dogs
    Chasing you
    Stand-alone and misunderstood

    Now that I've worn out
    I've worn out the world

    Reflecting Light
  • Sam Phillips is a huge fan of Jeff Bridges' performance in The Big Lebowski, so she jumped at the chance to write a song for his turn as an aging, alcoholic singer in Crazy Heart, a film co-produced by her longtime collaborator and former husband T Bone Burnett. She sought inspiration from '60s-era ballads to fit the pace of the slow-burning drama. "I was very proud to have a song in it," she told Magnet Magazine. "I wouldn't have called that one, I've gotta tell you. But T Bone fought hard for that. He felt that [Maggie Gyllenhaal's character's] moment needed to be more tender and not like the rest of the score. It was her moment, not his moment. For that, it worked well."

T Bone also co-composed music for the film and won a Grammy, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "The Weary Kind" (along with Ryan Bingham).

    The Rose Lyrics

Some say love, it is a river, that drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor, that leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love, it is a hunger, an endless aching need
I say love, it is a flower, and you, its only seed

Its the heart afraid of breaking, that never learns to dance
Its the dream afraid of waking, that never takes a chance
Its the one that won't be taking, that cannot seem to give
It's the one afraid of dying, that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely and the road has been too long
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter, far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love in the spring becomes The Rose.

    The Rose
  • This was written by Los Angeles singer/songwriter Amanda McBroom. Midler recorded it for the 1980 movie of the same name, which she starred in. McBroom explained: "A song came on the radio. It was 'Magdalena' by Danny OKeefe, sung by Leo Sayer. I liked it immediately. My favorite line was, 'You're love is like a razor. My heart is just a scar.' I thought, 'Ooh, I love that lyric, but don't agree with the sentiment that love is a razor.'"

"As I continued to drive down the road the thought came, 'What, then, do I think love is.' Suddenly, it was as if someone had opened a window in the top of my head. Words came pouring in. I had to keep reciting them to myself as I drove faster and faster towards home, so I wouldn't forget them. I screeched into my driveway, ran into the house, past various bewildered dogs and cats and husbands, and sat down at the piano. Ten minutes later, The Rose was there."

"A year or so later, a professional songwriter friend of mine said, 'Listen, there is this movie coming out called The Rose, based on the life of Janis Joplin. They are looking for a title tune. Do you want me to submit this to them? I had never really tried to submit a song to anyone. I didn't consider myself a songwriter at the time. So I said, 'Sure.'"

"The producers hated it. They thought it was dull and not Rock And Roll and totally wrong. They put it in the reject box. But Paul Rothchild, who had been Janis Joplin's producer, and now the music supervisor on the film, hauled it out and asked them to reconsider. They again said no. So he mailed it to Bette Midler, the star of the movie. She liked it, lobbied in favor of it; and that's how it got into the film and changed my life forever."
  • This won a Grammy award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female. It was Midler's second Grammy - seven years earlier she won for Best New Artist.
  • Roses show up a lot in titles of hit songs, often with very different meanings. Other Top 10 hits include "Bed Of Roses" by Bon Jovi, "Roses Are Red (My Love)" by Bobby Vinton," "Eighteen Yellow Roses" by Bobby Darin, "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison and "Kiss From A Rose" by Seal. Here's a photo that demonstrates the lyrical appeal of the rose .
  • To tie in with this song, Bette Midler appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone (issue dated December 13, 1979) lying on a literal bed of roses. The photo was taken by Annie Leibovitz; an assistant had to cut off all the thorns.
  • The song appeared on the television show Family Guy in the episode "Baby Not on Board." The song is sung by the Griffin Family, as Peter, the father, tries to suggest a good driving song.
  • This song appeared in a very humorous scene in the movie Napoleon Dynamite, a 2004 cult classic, as the lead character performs the song in sign-language.

Oh my darlin' I'll go down and commute
    Until one hundred souls
There's a fire on the moon
I'll be over the line, I'll be under the spell
    I'll be the comeback king
On his way home from hell

Seven wishes that will bury this place
Another reason not to get out of bed

    Show me the way brother,
    Give me a sign sister
I'm not the only one who's waiting to be born
    I see the day comin',
I see the time runnin' out
I see all of my dreams ragged and torn

Oh my darlin' all my sympathy's gone
    And my sunsets are strange
    My time's gettin' on
They'll rip me to shreds like it's never been seen
'Cause I never convinced them that I meant what I mean

    Seven nights, seven days
Seven wishes that will bury this place

    Seven Nights Seven Days
  • This was the first single from The Fratellis third album, which came five years after their previous effort, Here We Stand. Tensions in the band caused their split in 2009, but in 2013 the Glasgow trio got back together for a few gigs, which led to the We Need Medicine album.
  • Lead singer Jon Fratelli describes this song as "sort of autobiographical." It's an upbeat track with downbeat lyrics of broken dreams and finding the strength to face the day.

In our 2013 interview , Jon stated: "The character in that song sounds like he's in a desperate place and needs some hope from somewhere. I guess we've all felt like that at times."
  • The video follows a bedraggled clown who torments his audience. He is beaten and scorned, but redeemed when he finds a female clown who becomes his partner. Jon Fratelli told us about the clip:

"It's really just trying to convey the idea of someone who finds themselves in the wrong time, trying desperately to perform for people who don't understand him. Clowns being 'old fashioned' as a form of entertainment seemed to tell that story well."

    Poetic Tragedy Lyrics

The cup is not half empty as pessimists say
As far as he's sees nothings left in the cup
A whole cup full of nothing for him to indulge
Since the voice of ambition has long since been shut up

A singer, a writer, he's not dreaming now of going nowhere
He gave heed to nothing, and all that he was
    Is just a tragedy

    So he voyages in circles
    Succeeds getting nowhere
    And submits to the substance
    That first got him there

Than in violent, frustration he cries out to God or just no one
Is there a point to this madness and all that he was
    Is just a tragedy

    He feels alone
    His heart in his hand
    He's alone
    He feels alone
    I feel

Then on that last day he breaks
    And he stood tall
And he yelled, and he takes his life

    Poetic Tragedy
  • This song tells the story of a struggling musician who feels that there is no place for him in the world. Feeling he is a lost cause, he takes his own life (as stated in the final verse of the song). Many artists - painters, writers and often musicians - are not appreciated during their lifetimes, but their work becomes popular after they die. When we spoke with Jeph Howard from The Used, he said, "I think that song was originally was about another musician or songwriter. It was a mix between a thought of a person spending his whole life writing art and then dying before he really felt fulfilled." (here's our full Jeph Howard interview .)

"It just continually hits me - any time I play an old record, whether it's something from Sun or something similar it seems like it would have been nice to have been around in such simple times. And 'Halloween Blues' is just a nod to that."

    Bang, bang, history's complete
    Bang, bang, shoot me, Gavrilo
Bang, bang, the first six are for you
Bang, bang, the seventh is for me
    Bang, bang, Gavrilo Princip
    Bang, bang, shoot me, Gavrilo

    [Chorus]

The black hand holds the gun
    The devil takes his run
    Urban, take the Apple Quay
    It's June, the twenty-eighth
    The seventh was for me

    Bang, bang, Gavrilo Princip
    Bang, bang, shoot me, Gavrilo
Bang, bang, the first six are for you
Bang, bang, the seventh is for me
    Bang, bang, Gavrilo Princip
    Bang, bang, shoot me, Gavrilo

    All For You Sophia
  • This song is a humorous reference to the band name: Gavrilo Princip, a member of the Serbian rebel group "The Black Hand" shot the archduke of Austria, Franz Ferdinand, in Serajevo in 1914 ("bang bang, Gavril Princip, bang bang, shoot me Gravillo"). This incident is considered to be the trigger of the first world war ("Bang bang, Europe's going to weep").
  • This was released as the B-side to "Take Me Out".
