    Say it, how I'm feelin'
    Ain't easy

    You know, you know
    Time and time again
    Ooh!
    Time and time again!
    Ooh!
    Say it again
    Just hold on tight
    Don't let in, yeah
    I'll run alright,
    Don't let me
    Oh just let it out
Time and, time and, time and, time and time again
Time and, time and, time and, time and time again

    Breakin', now I'm feelin'
    You see me
    I know, you know
    Time and time again
    Ooh,
    Time and time again
    Ooh,
    Say it again
    Oh just hold on tight

    Ooh, ooh
    Not even there
What he's speaking of, what is happenin'
    My head is in space
    You know, you know
    Time and time again!
    Just hold on tight
    Don't let in, yeah
    I'll run alright,

    Summer Breeze Lyrics

Who draws the crowd and plays so loud
    Baby it's the guitar man
    Who's gonna steal the show
You know, baby, it's the guitar man

    He can make you love
    He can make you cry
    He will bring you down
    Then he'll get you high
    Somethin' keeps him goin'
    Miles and miles a day
To find another place to play

Night after night who treats you right
    Baby, it's the guitar man
    Who's on the radio
You go listen to the guitar man

    Then he comes to town
    And you see his face
    And you think you might
    Like to take his place
    Somethin' keeps him driftin'
    Miles and miles away
Searchin' for the songs to play

Then you listen to the music
    And you sing along
You want to get the meaning
Out of each and every song
Then you find yourself a message
And some words to call your own
    And take them home

    He can make you love
    He can get you high
    He will bring you down
    Then he'll make you cry
    Somethin' keeps him movin'
But no one seems to know
What it is that makes him go

Then the lights begin to flicker
And the sound is getting dim
    The voice begins to falter
And the crowds are getting thin
But he never seems to notice
    He's just got to find
    Another place to play

    Either way
    Got to play
    Either way
    Got to play

  • Jim Seals and Dash Crofts were from Texas. They belonged to the group The Champs in the late '50s and early '60s (The Champs had a hit "Tequila" in 1958). When the group dissolved in 1965, they worked with several other artists including Gene Vincent. In 1969 they released their first album as a duo. "Summer Breeze" was the first hit single, appearing on their fourth album in fall 1972.
  • "Blowing through the jasmine in my mind"? Long before it was a Disney princess, jasmine was a kind of flower that blooms in the summer. Also good for tea, Seals & Crofts use it to bring about feelings of contentment and harmony in this song, which is a feel-good classic about enjoying some simple pleasures in life with the ones you love. Jim Seals explained in 1972: "We operate on a different level, we try to create images, impressions and trains of thought in the minds of our listeners."
  • Seals & Crofts were devoted to the Baha'i faith, and believed that by writing about life itself, many meanings would emerge for the listener. In 1975, Seals told Melody Maker that "Summer Breeze" was "A very simple song about a man coming home from work and hearing the dog barking and things like that, and to a lot of people the song's about looking for security. Our meaning goes further than that, for a prison can be the prison of self and a person can become insecure and paranoid if he doesn't have a direction in his personal life."
  • Jim Seals is the brother of Dan Seals, who was "England Dan" in the duo England Dan and John Ford Coley. They had several hit songs in the '70s. (thanks, Charles - Charlotte, NC)
  • In 1974 a cover by the Isley Brothers, featuring much more prominent electric guitar courtesy of Ernie Isley, peaked at #16 in the UK. Some of the other artists to cover it include The Main Ingredient and Jason Mraz.
  • This song was covered by Type O Negative for the soundtrack to the 1997 movie I Know What You Did Last Summer. (thanks, Charlie - Las Vegas, NV)

    God I Get It Lyrics

Always loving what don't love me
Put my trust in things I don't need
My poor heart should be mad at me
I just leave my wounds to bleed

    Haven't I learned anything
You showed me signs to help me see
    But I love so blindly
    I'm taking full responsibility

    God I get it
I'm a mess and I admit it, whoa
I keep learning the same lessons
While I'm missing out on blessings
God I get it, whoa whoa

    God I get it
I'm a mess and I admit it, whoaaa
I keep learning the same lessons
While I'm missing out on blessings
    God I get it

Probably should of just had one glass
But instead I started a bath
Don't feel better, I still feel bad
Not the first time, won't be the last

    Haven't I learned anything
Showed me signs to help me see
    But I love so blindly
    I'm taking full responsibility

    God I get it
I'm a mess and I admit it, whoa
I keep learning the same lessons
While I'm missing out on blessings
    God I get it, whoa

    God I get it
I'm a mess and I admit it, whoa
I keep learning the same lessons
While I'm missing out on blessings
    God I get it

I know the truth but still do wrong
    No it can't be worked
    I'd rather be left alone
    They don't know my heart
    They tear me apart
    Tryna get it together

    God! I get it!
I'm a mess and I admit it, yeah whoa
I keep learning the same lessons
While I'm missing out on blessings
    God I get it, whoa

  • K. Michelle mixes up the genres of music on her Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart? album. This song is a country tune. "I want people to know that I don't f--k around with music," she told The Idolator . "You don't have to like me, but you're going to respect me as an artist."
  • Michelle went back to one of her first inspirations for this song. "My first voice teacher told my mom, 'People will expect her to sing a certain kind of music, but I want her to try other things'. So, he got me to sing country and yodeling," she recalled. "It's a big part of who I am. The first tape I ever got was The Judds' 'Love Can Build a Bridge.' I learned storytelling from that style, and my vocal runs definitely owe something to it."
  • Michelle explained the song's meaning: "It's just saying, 'God, I get it. I know I do wrong. I know you're trying to help me and send me signs. I have to do better.'"

Jealousy (All Your Friends in Silverlake) Lyrics

We met A Band of Horses
    You recognized my voice and
You said, “hello, have we ever met before?†
I know the drill, you had to chill
You played it cool cause all your friends were there

    You live in Silverlake,
You said you hate LA, said it’s fucking lame,
You got more friends in New York anyway
I know the drill, you’ve gotta chill
Gotta play it cool cause you don’t know what your friends would say

All I want is a little bit of your time
All I need is a chance for me to talk to you
I know that I could make you mine

Your friends don’t know about anything
Yeah, but it’s all shit, hating on you cause of me
    That’s okay, it’s jealousy

And your best friend’s a guy, he didn’t look me in the eye
He said some shit, you just laughed and said he was shy
That night I took you out, the things we talked about
You played it cool cause you didn’t know what to think about

What they would say about you and me
    If your friends found out
They’d be hating on you cause of me, all it is is jealousy

All I want is a little bit of your time
All I need is a chance for me to talk to you
I know that I could make you mine

Your friends don’t know about anything
Yeah, but it’s all shit, hating on you cause of me
    That’s okay, it’s jealousy

    Have a little drink
    Don’t worry about a thing
    Forget what they’d say
    Yeah, those jealous motherfuckers
Yeah, but they don’t matter anyway

All I want is a little bit of your time
All I need is a chance for me to talk to you
I know that I could make you mine

  • The Madden Brothers penned this song because they wanted something fun for their Greetings From California album. Joel Madden explained to Artist Direct : "It's a nod to our past because we've always been sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek about some things. It's a way of laughing at the reality that sometimes we judge each other before we know each other. One-on-one people always tend to have a good experience. When groups of people get involved, the experience can change."

  • The Ramones wrote this as a salute to their fans - it's about having a good time at a show.

Some fans interpret the song differently, however, as "Blitzkrieg" is a German term meaning "Lighting War." The Blitzkrieg was Hitler's army and in this interpretation, the Bop in the song is the march that the soldiers do. Here's a look at this interpretation:

"Hey ho, let's go" - The soldiers marching.

"They're forming in a straight line" - The soldiers are standing in a line.

"They're going through a tight wind" - Cars going down the autobahn.

"The kids are losing their minds" - Boys being turned into soldiers by Hitler.

"The Blitzkrieg Bop" - The soldiers march.

"They're piling in the back seat" - People piling into vehicles to get on the autobahn and soldiers piling into vehicles.

"They're generating steam heat" - The engines were so hot they started to steam.

"Pulsating to the back beat" - Germans getting pumped for war.

"Shoot'em in the back now" - Hitler being shot.

"What they want, I don't know" - Why Hitler was in the war.

"They're all revved up and ready to go" - The soldiers getting ready to fight. (thanks, Josh - Hibbing, MN)
  • The Ramones' famous chant, "Hey, Ho, Let's Go!" is a big part of this song. They wanted their own chant after hearing "Saturday Night" by the Bay City Rollers, which had the chant "S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y, Night."

Joey Ramone explained: "I hate to blow the mystique, but at the time we really liked bubblegum music, and we really liked the Bay City Rollers. Their song 'Saturday Night' had a great chant in it, so we wanted a song with a chant in it: 'Hey! Ho! Let's Go!'. 'Blitzkrieg Bop' was our 'Saturday Night'."
  • The songwriting credits on this one go to drummer Tommy Ramone and bass player Dee Dee Ramone. Tommy explained: "I wrote 'Blitzkrieg Bop,' but Dee Dee contributed the title and he changed one line. There was a line that went, 'They're shouting in the back now.' He changed it to 'Shoot 'em in the back now,' which is a non sequitur. But to him it made sense." (thanks, Katie - Gasoline Alley, Australia, for above 2)
  • This was the Ramones' first single, and also the first song on their first album. It was never a hit, but it became a punk anthem and a defining song of the genre, which was just about to enter its late '70s heyday.
  • Johnny Ramone's guitar, which was highly distorted, is on the left channel, while the rest of the band is on the right.
  • The Ramones had a very sparse budget at the time: The entire album cost just $6,400 to make.
  • This song has been used in a number of movies and TV series, including The Simpsons (the 2007 "Treehouse of Horror" episode), and the 2006 Entourage episode "I Wanna Be Sedated," revolving around a Ramones documentary.

In the 2001 movie Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, it was used in a scene where Jimmy and his friends go on a rampage of fun. Some other uses:

    Fear No Evil (1981)
    National Lampoon's Vacation (1983)
    Sugar & Spice (2001)
    Shattered Glass (2003)
    The King of Queens (2004)
    Date Night (2010)
    The Crazy Ones (2013)
    Parenthood (2014)
  • The New York Yankees baseball team often plays this when one of their big hitters is coming to the plate. Johnny Ramone is a huge fan of the Yankees.
  • Green Day performed this at the 2002 ceremonies when The Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
  • In 1991, this song piqued the interest of Budweiser which used it in a commercial for their beer (without the "Shoot 'em in the back" line). There was no debate in the Ramones camp over whether to authorize it: they were all happy to get the money and exposure. In 2003, the song found its way into another commercial, this time for AT&T Wireless.
  • Rob Zombie covered this song on the album A Tribute To Ramones (We're A Happy Family). (thanks, Brian - Halton, Canada)
  • Fellow first-wave punk band The Clash covered this song live on tour in 1978, often as a medley with their own song "Police and Thieves."

"I'm not that fond of London - when I go there I have to do 'promo,' which I detest, four or five days of it in a long bunch, and I come back just so pissed off and insulted," she told Billboard magazine. But I came back to Paris after a particularly hard promo session, where I'd been asked really awful, insulting questions, and I wrote that song as a horrible, sarcastic put down of London."

I feel alright, I feel alright tonight
And everywhere I go I shine bright
    Alright, alright alright

    Where's Kelly as you sung
    Don't ever feel that unknown
    Behold, it take home

    Luva, you're strange
    Luva, you're strange to me

And what do ya want me to do?
    It's all gone bad
What do ya want me to say?

    Whipping Post Lyrics

I've been run down and I've been lied to.
And I don't know why, I let that mean woman make me a fool.
She took all my money, wrecks my new car.
Now she's with one of my good time buddies,
They're drinkin' in some cross-town bar.

Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,
Like I've been tied to the whippin' post.
Tied to the whippin' post, tied to the whippin' post.
Good Lord, I feel like I'm dyin'

My friends tell me, that I've been such a fool.
But I had to stand by and take it baby, all for lovin' you.
Drown myself in sorrow as I look at what you've done.
But nothing seemed to change, the bad times stayed the same,
    And I can't run.

Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,
Like I've been tied to the whippin' post.
Tied to the whippin' post, tied to the whippin' post.
Good Lord, I feel like I'm dyin'.

  • Gregg wrote this on an ironing board using burnt matches. He got the idea in the middle of the night and couldn't find a pen.

  • Berry Oakley came up with the bass line, which the band worked around. Oakley died in a motorcycle accident in 1972.
  • A 22-minute live version appears on At Fillmore East. Since this took up almost an entire side, it became a double album. The band insisted on keeping the price close to that of a single album.
  • Fans would scream out for this even at concerts for other bands.
  • The chorus is written in 11/8 time, but the verses are written in 12/8. When asked by American Songwriter magazine how he came to compose such songs with progressions that are definitely nothing resembling blues or typical rock and roll, Allman replied that he's not entirely sure. "Man, I just stumbled onto 'em," he said. "I really didn't know exactly what I was doing, I just did it. My brother had to tell me that 'Whipping Post' was in 11/4 time; I had no idea." (thanks, Dustin - Baltimore, MD)

    Keep in the Dark Lyrics

Keep in the Dark to stay out of the light
Keep in the dark to stay out of the light
    Just hang the sunshine

Turn off your light, let's step into the dark
    Slip away like 'into her
Save your face and get behind, it's firmly pressed into earth
I feel relief when I talk, eventually comes
Talk of our dreams, you surely have one
Mind your head and keep your hands firmly pressed into earth

Dream on and sleep won't save you from the night
Drink a bottle, rest in wine
A shameful display, sung in some other place
    To keep in the dark

Dream on and sleep won't save you from the night
Drink a bottle, rest in wine
I come with a string to recover the world
She sings in the night and never grows on

Night falling, save the grace with wondering eyes
Drawn to a beauty left to lay in the light
'only precious white wine full of worth

Dressed in all, safe from the dark
But dressed in a body let stranger to pass
Flashing my attempt to calling an all showing girl
    Your true words

Dream on and sleep won't save you from the night
Drink a bottle, rest in wine
A shameful display, sung in some other place
    To keep in the dark

Dream on and sleep won't save you from the night
Drink a bottle, rest in wine
I come with a string to recover the world
She sings in the night and never grows on

  • This is a track from Sun Structures, the debut studio album by the English psychedelic rock band Temples. The group adopted a DIY approach to language in order to concoct their own, mystical vernacular for the album. "We use words as sounds in a way which almost creates your own language," vocalist James Bagshaw explained to NME. "If an English teacher read the lyrics, there will be mistakes everywhere and probably some words that might not even be words. But it's more important that the word sounds right in order to serve the melody, which I guess is quite similar to what Tyrannosaurus Rex used to do. The meaning might be a bit little skewed, but it's music – it's not a book of poems."
  • Bassist Tom Warmsley explained the use of autoharp on this song to NME: "It has a very percussive, bright, glissando quality to it and you almost use it like a rhythm guitar," he said. "It has this really unique, bright tone that adds another layer to the track."

Don't be fooled by the name - an autoharp is not a harp at all, but is basically a chorded zither.
