Pay For It Lyrics

Pay For It Song Chart
  • This promotional single features Jay Rock's Black Hippy cohort Kendrick Lamar whilst Canadian singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk croons the hook. This wasn't the first time that Kreviazuk, who is married to Our Lady Peace frontman Raine Maida, has collaborated with a rapper. In 2011 she sung the chorus on Drake's Take Care track, "Over My Dead Body."
  • The song originally landed in Kreviazuk's creative "dumpster," until Jay Rock and his people saved it from the trash heap. Kreviazuk told The Hollywood Reporter: "I don't write [Jay Rock's] thoughts, I write my own. I wrote the hook, I wrote the melody. I wrote the music and then I track it and then they chop it up and then keep going with it. I kind of thought this one was in the dumpster. … I put a lot of things in the dumpster and that one I just let go of completely."

"Then, one day I heard that they were going to have Kendrick and Jay Rock put a verse on it," she added, "and then I heard they were going to keep me as a feature, which was incredibly humbling and special and really super gracious, and then the next day it was in a Beats commercial."
  • Jay Rock performed the song on the November 15, 2014 episode of Saturday Night Live with Kendrick Lamar and Chantal Kreviazuk.

    The Playboy Mansion Lyrics

    If coke
    Is a mystery
    Michael Jackson
    History
    If beauty is truth
And surgery the fountain of youth
    What am I to do
Have I got the gifts to get me through
    The gates of that mansion
If OJ is more than a drink
And a Big Mac bigger than you think
    And perfume is an obsession
    And talk shows confession
What have we got to lose
Another push and maybe we'll be through
    The gates of that mansion

I never bought a lotto ticket
I never parked in anyone's space
    The banks they're like cathedrals
I guess casinos took their place
    Love, come on down
Don't wake her she'll come around

Chance is a kind of religion
Where you're damned for plain hard luck
I never did see that movie
I never did read that book
    Love, come on down
    Let my numbers come around

Don't know if I can hold on
Don't know if I'm that strong
Don't know if I can wait that long
    'Till the colors come flashing
    And the lights go on

Then will there be no time of sorrow
Then will there be no time for shame
And though I can't say why
I know I've got to believe

We'll go driving in that pool
It's who you know that gets you through
The gates of The Playboy Mansion
    Playboy mansion
    The Playboy mansion

Then will there be no time of sorrow
Then will there be no time for shame
Then will there be no time of sorrow
Then will there be no time for shame

  • This song finds the McBusted boys teaming up with Mark Hoppus. The Blink 182 bassist and vocalist also helped the band pen the track "Sensitive Guy." McFly's Tom Fletcher said: "He'd been such a huge influence on our song writing that to finally get in a room with him was so fun, if slightly surreal."
  • Guitarist Tom Fletcher and bassist Dougie Poynter originally penned this for McFly but it didn't fit in with the band's other material. "It was really dark and not as tongue-in-cheek as it is now," Fletcher explained to Digital Spy . "It was always one of those songs that would come up and me and Doug were like, 'Remember that song with this idea?' But then we'd never finish it."

"When we went into the studio with Mark Hoppus, we wondered if he'd like it," he continued. "We played it to him - that, the idea for 'Sensitive Guy,' and another two ideas - and he really liked it."

Pointer added: "He thought it would be funnier if it was wishing really s--t things upon somebody. Like their phone running out of battery. Or a small paper cut."

    Gone Lyrics

    You gotta feel so guilty
Got so much for so little
Then you find that feeling just won't go away
You're holding on to every little thing so tightly
Till there's nothing left for you anyway
    Goodbye
You can keep this suit of lights
I'll be up with the sun
    I'm not coming down
    I'm not coming down, ooh
    I'm not coming down

You wanted to get somewhere so badly
You had to lose yourself along the way
You change a name but that's okay
    It's necessary
    And what you leave behind
    You don't miss anyway

    Goodbye
You can keep this suit of lights
I'll be up with the sun
    I'm not coming down
    I'm not coming down, ooh
    I'm not coming down

    'Cause I'm already Gone
    Felt that way all along
    Closer to you every day
I didn't want it that much anyway

You're taking steps that make you feel dizzy
Then you get to like the way it feels
You hurt yourself you hurt your lover
    Then you discover
What you thought was freedom is just greed

    Goodbye
    It's emotional
    Goodnight
I'll be up with the sun
    Are you still holding on
    I'm not coming down, ooh
    I'm not coming down, ooh
    I'm not coming down

    Wait on me
I know how to love you
And I wanna love you some more
    Wait on me
    Come a little closer
Wanna be the one to explore
A little trouble never hurt nobody
Ooh I wanna feel your body
    Wait on me
I know how to love you
And I wanna love you some more

    Take it, take it
I'll give my heart to you for free girl
Don't you break it, break it
Along with every piece of me, yeah

I'll go the distance but not all of the way, yeah
Say what you mean to me, and mean what you say, yeah

I never wanna be your ex-man
I'll never make you feel ignored
You can go and find your next man
But I know what you're waiting for

    Wait on me
I know how to love you
And I wanna love you some more
    Wait on me

I know how to love you
And I wanna love you some more

    Some more, oh, oh
    Some more, oh, oh

    Say it, say it
I know there's something on your mind, girl
And I hate it, hate it
When you just act like you're okay, yeah

I wanna be the one and all that you need, yeah
I'll listen to your heart, I know how it speaks, yeah

I never wanna be your ex-man
I'll never make you feel ignored
You can go and find your next man
But I know what you're waiting for

    Wait on me

    Some more, oh, oh

I wanna love you some more
Come closer you know ya, don't feel like before
I'll give you what you want till you want it more
In your head, in your heart, like never before
If a good thing is what you're waiting for
Then don't you look no more

    Wait on me

    The Wanderer Lyrics

    I went out walking
    Through streets paved with gold
    Lifted some stones
    Saw the skin and bones
Of a city without a soul
    I went out walking
    Under an atomic sky
    Where the ground won't turn
    And the rain it burns
Like the tears when I said goodbye

    Yeah I went with nothing
Nothing but the thought of you
    I went wandering

    I went drifting
    Through the capitals of tin
    Where men can't walk
    Or freely talk
And sons turn their fathers in
I stopped outside a church house
Where the citizens like to sit
They say they want the kingdom
But they don't want God in it

    I went out riding
    Down that old eight lane
I passed by a thousand signs
    Looking for my own name

    I went with nothing
But the thought you'd be there too
    Looking for you

    I went out there
    In search of experience
    To taste and to touch
    And to feel as much
    As a man can
    Before he repents

    I went out searching
    Looking for one good man
A spirit who would not bend or break
Who would sit at his father's right hand
    I went out walking
With a bible and a gun
The word of God lay heavy on my heart
I was sure I was the one
Now Jesus, don't you wait up
    Jesus, I'll be home soon
Yeah I went out for the papers
Told her I'd be back by noon

    Yeah I left with nothing
But the thought you'd be there too
    Looking for you

    Yeah I left with nothing
Nothing but the thought of you
    I went wandering

    Oh hoo

  • A rare U2 song with no Bono (at least on vocals, he wrote the lyrics), Johnny Cash sang lead on this one. U2 started writing it for Cash when they found out he was coming to Dublin for a show. They decided to keep it for themselves with Cash as guest performer. A song that describes a man's travels and search for redemption, Bono said it was "one of the best things we've ever done, and I'm not even on it."
  • The working title was "Johnny Cash On The Moon."
  • U2 recorded this as if they were a bad lounge act. It was the last song on Zooropa, since they wanted to end the album with something that would not be taken too seriously. About a minute after this ends on the CD version of Zooropa, an alarm goes off.
  • The only time U2 played this live was at the 2005 tribute concert for Johnny Cash - Bono did the vocals. The concert was called I Walk the Line: A Night for Johnny Cash.

  • Written by Sting and Stewart Copeland, this is the seventh track on the Ghost in the Machine album.
  • The line "They kick a boy to death 'cause he don't belong," from the first verse was inspired by a real-life tragedy that unfolded near Sting's home when a gang of skinheads kicked a young man to death. Sting remembered in Lyrics By Sting: "It was around the time my first son was born. When you become a father for the first time, peace and nonviolence becomes even more of an imperative."

She got soul, soul, soul, sweet soul
And she teach me how to sing

Gives me hope when I can't believe

I just call and he comes around
    But for the first time
    I feel love

Hoo ho ho ho ho ho
    Hoo

My father is a rich man
He wears a rich man's cloak
Gave me the keys to his kingdom coming
Gave me a cup of gold

He said I have many mansions
And there are many rooms to see
But I left by the back door
And I threw away the key

Yeah, I threw away the key

If You Love Somebody Set Them Free Lyrics

    Free, free, set them free.
    Free, free, set them free.
    Free, free, set them free.

    Free, free, set them free.
If you need somebody, call my name.
If you want someone, you can do the same.
If you want to keep something precious,
Got to lock it up and throw away the key.
You want to hold on to your possessions, don't even think about me.

If you love somebody, if you love someone,
If you love somebody, if you love someone set them free.

If it's a mirror you want just look into my eyes,
Or a whipping boy, someone to despise.
Or a pris'ner in the dark tied up in chains you just can't see
or a beast in a gilded cage; that's all some people ever want to be.

If you love somebody, if you love someone,

    (Free, free, set them free.)
    Set them fee.
    (Free, free, set them free.)
    Set them free.
    (Free, free, set them free.)

You can't control an independent heart,
(Can't love what you can't keep)
Can't tear the one you love apart.
(Can't love what you can't keep)
Forever conditioned to believe that we can't live,
We can't live here and be happy with less.
With so many riches, so many souls,
With ev'rything we see that we want to possess.

If you need somebody, call my name.
If you want someone, you can do the same.
If you want to keep something precious,
Got to lock it up and throw away the key.

If You Love Somebody Set Them Free Song Chart
  • Written by Sting, this was the first single released from his solo debut album, The Dream of the Blue Turtles.
  • Sting wrote this in response to "Every Breath You Take," his monumental hit with The Police. He explained in Lyrics By Sting: "This song was as much a hymn to my newfound freedom as it was an antidote to the brooding issues of control and surveillance that haunted "Every Breath You Take." Perhaps the highest compliment you can pay to a partner is 'I don't own you - you're free.' If you were to try to possess them in the obvious way, you could never appreciate them in the way that really counts. There are too many prisons in the world already."
  • Sting assembled a group of jazz musicians, including bass player Darryl Jones (who went on to join The Rolling Stones in 1993), sax player Branford Marsalis, keyboardist Kenny Kirkland and drummer Omar Hakim, and headed to Barbados to record this album at Eddy Grant's studio.
  • The album's title was inspired by an odd dream Sting had when he first arrived in Barbados. He remembered in Lyrics By Sting: "I dreamed I was sitting in the walled garden behind my house in Hampstead, under a lilac tree on a well-manicured lawn, surrounded by beautiful rosebushes. Suddenly the bricks from the wall exploded into the garden and I turned to see the head of an enormous turtle emerging from the darkness, followed by four or five others. They were not only the size of a man, they were also blue and had an air of being immensely cool, like hepcats, insouciant and fearless. They didn't harm me but with an almost casual violence commenced to destroy my genteel English garden, digging up the lawn with their claws, chomping at the rosebushes, bulldozing the lilac tree. Total mayhem: I woke up to the sound of Branford in the room upstairs, riffing wildly on the tenor sax, followed by his unmistakable laughter."
  • The music video, directed by Godley and Creme, was shot on a soundstage in Paris.
  • This song reflected Sting's fear of commitment. He told Musician in 1985: "In relationships I feel very susceptible to entrapment. I see the bars go up and I try and escape, usually in the most violent and vicious way. I've destroyed one person totally; I've left people in a bloody pulp as I've felt the bars go up. If anything, 'Set Them Free' is a kind of warning. I'm not really into the idea of permanent relationships. I find that phoney, shallow and unrealistic in many ways. That's not to say the relationships I have are in any way inferior. I think they're more intense because of that belief."
  • Sting told Rolling Stone in 1985: "I've been through periods of wanting to be possessed, by my parents, my girlfriends. I don't want to be owned anymore."

It's shorthand for something that's very complex. There's a huge spectrum of meaning within the word love. What is love, from lust to devotion to worship? It's not something I'm very conscious of. I wasn't aware that I used the word love a lot."
