Ghostbusters Lyrics

Ghostbusters
If there's something strange
In you neighborhood
Who you gonna call
Ghostbusters
If there's something weird
And it don't look good
Who you gonna call
Ghostbusters

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I ain't afraid of no ghost

If you're seeing things
Running through your head
Who can you call
Ghostbusters
An invisible man
Sleeping in your bed
Who you gonna call
Ghostbusters

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I ain't afraid of no ghost

Who you gonna call
Ghostbusters
If you're all alone
Pick up the phone
And call
Ghostbusters

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I here it likes the girls
I ain't afraid of no ghost
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

Who ya gonna call
Ghostbusters

If you've had a dose of a
Freaky ghost baby
You better call
Ghostbusters

Lemme tell ya something
Bustin' makes me feel good

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I ain't afraid of no ghost

Don't get caught alone no no

Ghostbusters

When it comes through your door
Unless you just want some more
I think you better call
Ghostbusters

Who ya gonna call
Ghostbusters

Who ya gonna call
Ghostbusters

I think you better call
Ghostbusters

Who ya gonna call
Ghostbusters

I can't hear you
Who ya gonna call
Ghostbusters

Louder
Ghostbusters

Who ya gonna call
Ghostbusters

Who can ya call
Ghostbusters

Who ya gonna call
Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters Song Chart
  • This was the theme song for the movie starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver. Parker's song was chosen after 60 others were rejected.
  • Parker had to get pretty creative with this, as writing a song with the word "Ghostbusters" in it is quite challenging. In an interview with George Cole, author of The Last Miles: The Music of Miles Davis, 1980-1991 , Parker said: "It sounds easy now because you've heard the song. But if somebody told you to write a song with the word 'Ghostbusters' in it, it's pretty difficult. That was the hard part - getting the title in the song."

Parker added that he got his girlfriend and her friends to shout the title for the chorus, since he didn't want to sing it. Parker, who was a renowned session musician, played most of the instruments on the track.
  • Huey Lewis sued Parker for plagiarizing the medley to his song "I Want A New Drug" on this track. They settled out of court and agreed not to talk about the case in public, but in 2001, Lewis revealed that Parker paid to settle the suit on an episode of VH1's Behind The Music. Parker then sued Lewis for violating the terms of their agreement.
  • The video featured short appearances by a bunch of random celebrities, including George Wendt, Carly Simon, and John Candy.
  • Martin Page played keyboards on this song, and Brian Fairweather played guitar. The English duo had a group called Q-Feel that got a lot of attention when their song "Dancing In Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop)" was put in rotation on the Los Angeles radio station KROQ. They had done session work in England, performing on records for the group Tight Fit. When they came to America, they were thrilled to get the call to work on this track, as they were big fans of Ray Parker, Jr. and his group Raydio. Martin Page quickly established himself as a top songwriter, co-writing the #1 hits "We Built This City" and "These Dreams."
  • When Ghostbusters II was released in 1989, another contemporary hit was expected for the film's theme song. This time, they didn't insist on having the word "Ghostbusters" in the title, which simplified the task. That song ended up being "On Our Own," which was recorded by Bobby Brown and written by Babyface, L.A. Reid and Darryl Simmons.
  • This was nominated for an Oscar for Best Song From A Movie. It lost to "I Just Called To Say I Love You" by Stevie Wonder.
  • This was used in the 2008 movie Be Kind Rewind in a scene where the main characters re-create the Ghostbusters movie. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)

  • This single finds Jimmy Fallon, the host of NBC's The Tonight Show, teaming up with Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am. The song is based on the show's "Ew!" series, in which Fallon and a guest dress up as as a couple of teenage girls who are constantly disgusted by all the things around them.

The pairing with will.i.am marked the first musical collaboration in the series – the previous "Ew!" sketches were spoken-word only.
  • Fallon told the On Air With Ryan Seacrest radio show how the song came about: "So, we had will.i.am on the show about two months ago," he explained. "Backstage we're talking and he goes, 'I really like that sketch that you do, "Ew!," where you dress up as a 15-year-old girl and everything is like, "Ew!"' I said, 'You know, we're doing it with Taylor Swift this week, but next time you come back, I'll write you in and we'll do one."

"In three days, before the writers [and I] could even write any lyrics, he sent me a full-on produced song," Fallon continued. "So then he flies to New York, I go to a recording studio, we tweak it a little, and I write some raps for myself. So this is me rapping, as well, which is sad."
  • Proceeds from sales of the single go toward the SeriousFun Children's Network and will.i.am's i.am.angel Foundation.
  • The song reached the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. Fallon wasn't the first Tonight Show host to reach the Top 40. Back in 1955 the show's first host, Steve Allen, peaked at #35 with his version of the old jazz standard "Autumn Leaves."

I can't say baby where I'll be in a year

    Yeah yeah yeah yeah

Said my get up and go must've got up and went
Well I got good news, she's a real good liar

Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

    Sweet Emotion Song Chart
  • Steven Tyler wrote this about how frustrated he was with the band. They were doing a lot of drugs at the time and tensions often ran high, especially between Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry . The song is also a statement about doing your own thing without letting others bring you down.
  • Tyler attributes the first lines, "Talk about things that nobody cares, wearing out things things that nobody wears," to Joe Perry's girlfriend Elissa because of the incredible amount of tension between them. A lot of this tension was caused by their drug use, and in particular one night when Tyler came to Perry's hotel room looking for heroin, and he and Elissa sent him away, refusing to share their drugs. In the Aerosmith autobiography Walk This Way, Tyler says these lines were his "angry side talking, and adds that when he wrote the lyrics, "Can't say baby where I'll be in a year," he was thinking, "but it will be at least 1000 miles away from you!"
  • The music was based on the bass line Tom Hamilton came up with. Tyler wrote the lyrics (Perry was known as "Mr. Sweet Emotion"), and they put the song together in a jam session.

Hamilton says it was the band's producer, Jack Douglas, who coaxed the bassline out of him. Near the end of recording for the Toys In The Attic album, Douglas asked if anyone in the band had some spare riffs lying around, and Hamilton produced this one, which went over well with his bandmates. Hamilton recalls in Walk This Way: "I smoked a bowl or two and wrote the arrangements, the guitar parts. Steven took the intro, turned it around, changed key, and we used it as the tag, the resolution of the song. Brad, Joey, and I went home. Next time we heard 'Sweet Emotion,' it had the overdubs, the vocals, and I flipped out. I loved what they did with it."
  • There is a hidden message buried in this track, but what that message says depends on who you ask. The band did some clapping and chanting that was played backward, creating the sucking noise in the song. What they chanted had to do with their manager, Frank Connelly, who had been diagnosed with cancer and sold rights to manage the band to the team of Steve Leber and David Krebs. According to Steven Tyler, they were chanting, "F--k you, Frank," but their producer Jack Douglas says it was "Thank you, Frank."
  • This was re-released in 1991 to promote their Pandora's Box compilation. A video was shot for it featuring a young man having phone sex with what he believes is a beautiful young lady. At the end of the video, we find out she is a fat chain smoker with a few kids.
  • Joe Perry used a talkbox to create the distorted vocal sounds at the beginning. Peter Frampton used a talkbox with spectacular success on his 1976 album, Frampton Comes Alive.
  • According to Rolling Stone's Top 500 Singles, "As the sessions for Toys in the Attic reached the eleventh hour at the Record Plant in New York, producer Douglas called out for ideas. Bassist Hamilton resurrected a riff that had been germinating for several years, and it was outfitted with bass marimba and Joe Perry's voice-box recitation of the song title. A few months later, Aerosmith had their first Top 40 single."
  • The live version of this song features an unusual instrument: Tyler shook a packet of sugar into the microphone to substitute missing maracas.
  • This song, as well as "Eat The Rich," "Toys In The Attic" and "Walk This Way," was used in the arcade game Revolution X: Music Is The Weapon featuring Aerosmith. It appears during the stage select screen at the end of a level. (thanks, Gordo - Lab City, Canada, for above 2)
  • In their early days, Van Halen used to cover this at some of their shows. Papa Roach also did a cover of this song. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)
  • This song is played at the end of the movie Starsky And Hutch. It is at the very end when they are walking down the alley. (thanks, Ben - Winston-Salem, NC)
  • This plays in the opening of the movie Dazed and Confused. A recurring theme in the film are the characters mentioning going to Houston to buy Aerosmith tickets as "top priority of the summer." A connection: Jason London, who played Randall "Pink" Floyd in the film, starred in Aerosmith's video for "Amazing."
  • In the movie Be Cool starring John Travolta, Steven Tyler is asked what he was thinking when he wrote "Sweet Emotion." He first responds that it was the buzz he got from the album Toys In The Attic, but after a short speech from Travolta, Tyler agrees that it was the pure "Sweet Emotion" that he was experiencing with from his young daughters that influenced the lyrics of the song.
  • In a rare live version of this song, Joe Perry plays the solo from the Led Zeppelin song "Dazed And Confused." (thanks, Brian - Salisbury, MD, for above 2)
  • Aerosmith performed this with Kid Rock when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

    Long Stretch of Love Lyrics

Your hit initial fire and ice
    You're water and whiskey burn
We kiss, we fight, make up all night
You're the blessing and the curse

But I don't ever wanna break this chain
I don't ever wanna walk away
'Cause I ain't ever gonna find another lover
    Make me feel this way

Over and over and over we say that we're through
But I come right back to you

There's a Long Stretch of Love
    Coming down the line
Have you like I want, ever rolling
    Baby, you'll be mine
Have you right here, beside you
When these good times get tough
Baby, we're in for a long stretch of love

You lift me up, you bring me down
    You make me feel alive
You send my heart in overdrive
Every time you kill the lights

Over and over and over we play this game
Win or lose, we never change

There's a long stretch of love
    Coming down the line
Have you like I want, ever rolling
    Baby, you'll be mine
Have you right here, beside you
When these good times get tough
Baby, we're in for a long stretch of love

    (Oh) Long stretch of love
    (Oh) Long stretch of love
    (Oh) Long stretch of love

Over and over and over we play this game
Win or lose, we never change

There's a long stretch of love
    Coming down the line
Have you like I want, ever rolling
    Baby, you'll be mine
Have you right here, beside you
When these good times get tough
Baby, we're in for a long stretch of love

    (Oh) Long stretch of love
    (Oh) Long stretch of love
(Oh) Long stretch of love (Ooh baby)
But I don't ever wanna break this chain
I don't ever wanna walk away

  • Lady A's Charles Kelley described this pulsating rocker as the most honest song on the 747 album. "We're all married. True love is ups and downs. You hit, you miss. You're fire and ice," he explained to Radio.com . "But at the end of the day we're not going anywhere. We feel that way in our personal lives and as a band. We're going to have our ups and downs. We've been through a lot. We just have this long stretch of love. This long view of the group."
  • Penned by the Lady A trio and their "Need You Now" co-writer Josh Kear, this song features a driving beat and Celtic-inspired instrumentation. "What really makes this song special and different to me is how we used an uncommon instrument called a Woodrow, which brings an Appalachian feel into this high energy track," said 747 producer Nathan Chapman. "That unique sound combined with their vocals - which may be the most powerful Lady A has ever sounded - it just leaves the listener breathless."
  • Lady Antebellum opened the shows during their Wheels Up 2015 Tour with this song. "We honestly just feel like it is so representative of who we are, and that's what we want to be the first thing we make at the top of the set," Lady A's Hilary Scott explained. "It's the most representative of us right now, where we are and the longevity we strive for as the band."
  • Directed by TK McKamy and shot in Nashville in late June 2015, the song's music video is a nod to Lady Antebellum's live performance of the song during their Wheels Up 2015 Tour. "'Long Stretch' is how we've been opening our set each night on the road this year," Lady A's Dave Haywood said. "So, when we went to make this music video, we really wanted to channel the anticipation and excitement we feel listening to the crowd go nuts at that first riff. When the lights go up and the fans go crazy, our adrenaline is pumping, and it totally sets the energy level for the whole night."

    In your life
You seem to have it all
    You seem to have control
    But deep within your soul
    You're losing it

    You never took the time
    Assume that you're to blame
    You think that you're insane
    Won't you spare me

    [Chorus]
    I know the Breakdown
Everything is gonna shake now someday
    I know the breakdown
Tell me again am I awake now
Maybe you can find the reason that
No one else is living this way

Yeah your lies your world is built around
    Two faces to a clown
The voices in your head think
    There's four pawns down

    Well in this unity
    Fate has found the need
    You better check yourself
    Before you check out

    If you find yourself
    Then you might believe
    Then within yourself
    You just might conceive

You can find the reason that

Smoke on the Water Song Chart
We all came out to Montreux
    On the Lake Geneva shoreline
To make records with a mobile
    We didn't have much time
    Frank Zappa and the Mothers
Were at the best place around
But some stupid with a flare gun
Burned the place to the ground
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky

They burned down the gambling house
It died with an awful sound
Funky Claude was running in and out
    Pulling kids out the ground
    When it all was over
We had to find another place
But Swiss time was running out
It seemed that we would lose the race
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky

We ended up at the Grand Hotel
It was empty cold and bare
But with the Rolling truck Stones thing just outside
    Making our music there
With a few red lights and a few old beds
We make a place to sweat
No matter what we get out of this

    We bitch and we fight

    But this thing we do
    These times together
Rain or shine or stormy weather
    This thing we do

    With world-weary grace
    We've taken our places
We could curse it or nurse it and give it a name

    It's Louder Than Words
    This thing that we do
    Louder than words
    The way it unfurls
    It's louder than words
    The sum of our parts
    The beat of our hearts
    Is louder than words
    Louder than words

    The strings bend and slide
    As the hours glide by
An old pair of shoes, your favorite blues
    Gonna tap out the rhythm
Let's go with the flow, wherever it goes
    We're more than alive

    It's louder than words

    Louder Than Words Song Chart
  • The closing track of Pink Floyd's The Endless River album, this is the only non-instrumental song on the record. The lyrics were written by David Gilmour's wife, Polly Samson.
  • The song contains David Gilmour's first new Pink Floyd vocal in 20 years. It was recorded at Gilmour's home studio in Hove on England's south coast. "Both Phil and myself had been pushing David to get the lyric and get the vocal," co-producer Youth recalled to Uncut magazine. "Everyone around him was saying how he hates doing vocals, and he always l;eaves them to the last minute... He does this amazing thing when he's composing and gets a melody. He does this skat vocal. It is absolutely perfect. Apparently that's how he did 'Comfortably Numb.' I've never heard a singer skat a lead vocal so exact, with the right emotion and everything. So we had this skat vocal, and then we waited for Polly and David to come up with the lyrics."

"David had come up with a concept that when he went into the chorus, he would go low and the backing singers would go an octave up from him," continued co-producer and long-time Floyd engineer Andy Jackson. "He's a big Leonard Cohen fan, and that's something Leonard does a lot. Because the studio was in his home, he'd try it every day until he got all the lines he wanted. He ended up just doing it alone. It had been a while since he sang, so he had to get his voice limbered up, a bit every day."
  • Polly Sampson's lyrics are both a tribute to former keyboardist and founding member of Pink Floyd, Richard Wright and a description of the symbiosis that the band members had. Co-producer Phil Manzanera described it to Uncut as, "a comment on their methods of working over their full careers; it seemed like a fitting summation of the complexity of the music."

Andy Jackson added: "It's about the dynamics of being in bands, which I've always thought of as Big Brother on wheels. You become best of friends and worst of enemies all the same time."
  • London string quartet Escala played on the song. The all-female electronic string foursome were finalists on Britain's Got Talent in 2008.
  • The Endless River became Amazon UK's most pre-ordered album of all time. The record overtook One Direction's 2013 set Midnight Memories to claim the title. Asked why he thought that happened, Gilmour told CNN: "I'm going to sound like a grumpy old man. Modern music, to me, is very formulaic."

"My children, who are now in their late teens and in their twenties, all went through phases of thinking the Beatles were the greatest thing on the planet," he added. "There are an awful lot of young people who are searching back through older music for something real, or more original."

"Maybe they're looking for something they're not getting; something that's not made quite so robotically."

The record was broken a few weeks later when Take That's first release as a three piece, III, became the most pre-ordered album of all time on Amazon.co.uk.
  • The video was directed by designer Po Powell who first members of the then fledgling Pink Floyd in 1960s Cambridge. Together with Storm Thorgerson they designed the band's album covers as well as creating the artwork for many other famous acts. The clip features footage shot near the remains of the Aral Sea on the Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan border. "A surreal image if ever I saw one," Powell told Rolling Stone, "and a shocking example of human mismanagement and one of the planet's worst environmental disasters… The river has shrunk to 10 percent of its original size, destroying the fishing industry and whole townships."

    Survivor Lyrics

Now that you're out of my life, I'm so much better
You thought that I'd be weak without you, but I'm stronger
You thought that I'd be broke without you, but I'm richer
You thought that I'd be sad without you, I laugh harder
Thought I wouldn't grow without you, now I'm wiser
Thought that I'd be helpless without you, but I'm smarter
You thought that I'd be stressed without you, but I'm chillin'
You thought I wouldn't sell without you, sold nine million

    I'm a Survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

Thought I couldn't breathe without you, I'm inhaling
You thought I couldn't see without you, perfect vision
You thought I couldn't last without you, but I'm lastin'
You thought that I would die without you, but I'm livin'
Thought that I would fail without you, but I'm on top
Thought it would be over by now, but it won't stop
Thought that I would self destruct, but I'm still here
Even in my years to come, I'm still gon' be here

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    Wishing you the best
    Pray that you are blessed
Bring much success, no stress, and lots of happiness
    (I'm better than that)
I'm not gon' blast you on the radio
    (I'm better than that)
I'm not gon' lie on you and your family
    (I'm better than that)
I'm not gon' hate on you in the magazines
    (I'm better than that)
I'm not gon' compromise my Christianity
    (I'm better than that)
You know I'm not gon' diss you on the internet
'Cause my mama taught me better than that

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    Oh (oh)
    Oh (oh)
    Oh (oh)
    Oh (oh)
    Oh (oh)
    Oh (oh)
    Oh (oh)
    Oh (oh)

After of all of the darkness and sadness
    Soon comes happiness
If I surround my self with positive things
    I'll gain prosperity

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    I'm a survivor
    I'm not gon' give up
    I'm not gon' stop
    I'm gon' work harder
    I'm a survivor
    I'm gonna make it
    I will survive
    Keep on survivin'

    Survivor Song Chart
  • This was inspired by the reality TV show of the same name where contestants vote each other off an island. It is a play on what happened to the group when they lost three members in one year, and their associated drama was being compared to the show - wondering what group member would be the last one voted off. Group leader Beyoncé Knowles wrote it after reading a review comparing the member changes to Survivor.
  • Beyoncé says that this song was a defining moment in the career of Destiny's Child, as with their success also came a great deal of negativity. The criticism encouraged her to "write them out of the negativity," which is how she came up with this song.
  • Destiny's Child performed this for the first time at the 2001 Soul Train Awards.
  • This won the 2001 MTV Video Music Award for Best R&B Video.
  • Two former members of the group, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson, sued Beyoncé Knowles, Mathew Knowles (Beyoncé's father and the group's manager), Kelly Rowland, and Sony Music for breach of contract, defamation, libel, and fraud over this. When Luckett and Roberson left, they signed a settlement that prohibited both parties from talking about their leaving the group. They claimed this song violated that agreement because the lyrics, such as "Thought that I'd be stressed without you, but I'm chillin', thought I wouldn't sell without you, sold 9 million," were aimed at them. Beyoncé Knowles claimed the song was about anyone who ever doubted the group. The case was settled in 2002.

  • Rachel Holder recalled to Billboard magazine that laying this song down made for quite an emotional recording session. "I remember recording it at Rosewood Studios in Tyler, Texas," she said. "We had the candles lit. I was crying when I sang this song, because it just puts me there where I think of so many people, whether it be your mother, your grandmother or your friends."

    Jaded Lyrics

    Hey...ja ja Jaded
    You got your mama's style
But you're yesterday's child to me
    So jaded
You think that's where it's at
But is that where it's 'sposed to be
You're gettin' it all over me
    Ex-er-ated

    My my baby blue
Yeah I been thinkin' 'bout you
    My my baby blue
    Yeah you're so jaded
And I'm the one that jaded you

    Hey...ja ja jaded
    In all it's misery
It will always be what I love...and hated
And maybe take a ride to the other side
    We're thinkin' of
We'll slip into the velvet glove
    And be jaded

    My my baby blue
Yeah I been thinkin' 'bout you
    My my baby blue
    Yeah I'm so jaded
And baby I'm afraid a you

    You're thinkin' so complicated
I've had it all up to here
    But it's so overrated
    Love and hate it
    Wouldn't trade it
    Love me jaded...yeah...yeah

    Hey...ja ja jaded
    There ain't no baby please
When I'm shootin' the breeze with her
When everything you see is a blur
    And ex-ta-ceez what you prefer

    My my baby blue
    I'm a talkin' 'bout you
    My my baby blue
Yeah I been thinkin' 'bout you
    My my baby blue
    Yeah you're so jaded
    (Baby)
    Jaded
    (Baby)
    You're so jaded
'Cause I'm the one that jaded you

    Jaded Song Chart
  • People become jaded when they are bored or annoyed, often because they are overindulged and take things for granted. The girl in the song is given everything, which denies her the chance to really feel and experience life.
  • According to lead singer Steven Tyler, he wrote this song while thinking of his youngest daughter, and how he missed much of her childhood because he was touring. He feels he jaded her and himself by not being available due to band commitments or drug problems. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France, for above 2)
  • Tyler stuttered his vocal like Roger Daltrey did on The Who's "My Generation."
  • Steven Tyler and Joe Perry wrote this song and produced it. Just Push Play was the first album they produced themselves.
  • The Tower of Power horn section played on the album, but were buried in the mix. Emilio Castillo, who is a founding member of Tower of Power, told us: "Aerosmith hired Tower of Power horns after years and years of wanting us to play on their records. They finally decided to do it and Joey Kramer called me up and they said they had their own arranger and I explained to Joey, 'I'm not sure who this guy is but I need to tell you something: When people use their own arrangers, a lot of times it doesn't come out sounding like Tower of Power horns. If you want the real sound you should use our arranger.' He says, 'Yeah, well, this guy's a good friend, he's very talented, he's done some arrangements for Barbra Streisand.' And I said, 'Well, obviously it's your choice, we'll come in and play his arrangements.' He says, 'How about this, if at any time during the session you feel that the arrangement is not Tower of Power worthy, you just tell us - we'll call the session, reschedule, hire your horn arranger and redo it.'

So I fly into LA, we go to one of the top studios in LA where Steely Dan recorded their famous records and here's this guy, he's a nice guy, and he's a good musician but he's not really a horn arranger. Basically, he wrote a lot of guitar parts for the horns. So, the bottom line is when the record came out, you can't even hear the horns on the record and the reason for that is Aerosmith is a guitar band, so what are you going to mix? Are you going to mix the guitars down so you can hear the horns or are you going to mix the guitars up? Obviously you're going to mix the guitars up. I certainly wasn't going to say, 'Look, it's not sounding the way it should sound,' because we're there, they've got a big Indian food spread out there, they're spending a lot of money and they all think it's fabulous. I couldn't say anything, I wasn't going to stop the session. But the next time they call me, I will insist they use our arranger and I will tell them why." (Check out our full interview with Emilio Castillo. You can also learn more at towerofpower.com .)
  • Aerosmith performed this at halftime of the 2001 Super Bowl. They also played "Walk This Way," with *NSYNC, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, and Nelly singing with them.
  • This was the first single from Just Push Play, which was released the year Aerosmith was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
  • Tyler (from Q magazine): "When I hit on the melody for 'Jaded,' it was so phenomenal that for a while I was scared to do anything more with it. I didn't even tell the band."
  • Aerosmith performed this on Saturday Night Live in 2001, two days before they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
  • Aerosmith recorded this at Joe Perry's house, where he has a studio called The Boneyard.
  • This won a Nickelodeon Teen Choice Award in 2001. It was presented to the band by Britney Spears, who sang with Aerosmith at the Super Bowl on "Walk This Way."
  • Tina Yothers, who played Jennifer Keaton on Family Ties, had a band at the time called Jaded.
  • A teenaged and unknown Mila Kunis was in the video. She would later star in That '70s Show and the movie Black Swan.
  • "Jaded" proved to be Aerosmith's last big hit. Over the next decade, they released a blues-covers album called Honkin' on Bobo and suffered some setbacks because of band tensions and Steven Tyler's medical problems - he was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 2002.

In 2011, interest in the band was renewed when Tyler became a judge on American Idol, and the following year they released the album Music from Another Dimension!
  • Tyler wrote this with Marti Frederiksen, who has worked with Aerosmith since the mid-1990s. "That song was my first pop hit," Frederiksen recalled to The Boombox . "I don't know what happened that day, but it all came to me and Steven in a few hours. We were at his house and I remember he was on the phone. Anyway, I started playing the main riff and singing the melody. I didn't have the word 'jaded' yet -- that was his thing. But what I really thought was genius was the stutter when he sings, 'ja-ja-ja-jaded.' Steven came up with that."

    Skeptic Lyrics

I only want our fate, commit the rape
Do we get a little taste? That's unique
They love my taint, know what I made
    Him—achievement on a Sunday
You where the gift, you where a gib
But there's a way, it's the god damned dead
Nothing and a curse, you made it work
The universe is so much smaller

    Vengeance, bastards, different, why?
    Why do the living decreed?
    And our hero, martyr, missionary
God—he was the best of us

The world will never see another crazy motherfucker like you
The world will never know another man as amazing as you

Never be the same, I want the blame
To be a sign of the guiltiest one
It can't be done, because the son
Was a victim of your best sin
I'm so fucking pissed at all of this
You gotta know that you are sorely missed
Eight becomes a wheel, they hope you heal
They make you feel like they broke it better

    Father, brother, scapegoat, why?
Why did we only get this day?
    Fighter, icon, chanting
God—stop taking the best of us

    I won't let you disappear
I will keep your soul alive if I can't have you here
    History may have its share
    Of lunatics and stars
But the world will never see another crazy motherfucker like you
The world will never know another man as amazing as you
The world will never see another crazy motherfucker like you
The world will never know another man as amazing as you

Skeptic, skeptic, skeptic, skeptic, skeptic, skeptic

Where am I supposed to begin?
I'm killing for this god while I'm dead
Feed the meat to ripping machine
Where living is a way to be sane

    God—are we alone?
    God—we're not alone

    I can't let you disappear
I will keep your soul alive if I can't have you heal
We were meant to be the gates
Rule the masses, run the risk
    And keep our systems clean
    It's your remake, heaven's shroud
    For lunatics that starve
But the world will never see another crazy motherfucker like you
The world will never know another man as amazing as you
The world will never see another crazy motherfucker like you
The world will never know another man as amazing as you

The world will never see (will never see)
Another crazy motherfucker like you (like you)
    Like you (like you)
    Like you

    Skeptic Song Chart
  • Slipknot's .5: The Gray Chapter is their first album not to feature bassist Paul Gray, who accidentally overdosed in 2010. The album title and many of the lyrics reference their fallen colleague particularly on this song. Frontman Corey Taylor told Kerrang!: "It's a song about the kind of person that Paul was, just his love for not only music in general, but for this band, and just how amazing a personality he was."

"And the name 'Skeptic' refers to the fact that he when everyone would be in the dumps and negative, or just feeling like nothing could get done, he would be the guy who was completely sceptical of all the odds against us," he continued. "He'd just be like, 'Screw that, we're gonna do this, and we're gonna do it amazingly."

"He was the beating heart of it, " Taylor concluded, "and this song is a celebration of who he was."
  • Asked by Larry King what Gray would think of the .5: The Gray Chapter album, Taylor replied. "I think he would've loved it. I mean, it's essentially the story of the last four years, dealing with the aftermath of his death and all of us trying to kind of get back to a place where we wanted to make music again."
