Dangerous Days Lyrics

Dangerous Days Song Chart
  • Directed by artist Tim Saccenti, the music video finds Zola Jesus (real name Nika Roza Danilova) dancing by the lake and amongst the trees in Washington's Hoh Rainforest attired in a flowing woollen cape. "The song is a pure emotional plea, a future primitive call to arms," Saccenti said. "To create a moment of light in these dark times was our hope. Eschewing a heavy narrative we let the images of the Earth, filmed in wide screen and mixed with a tense unnatural presence, wash over the viewer while Nika communicates her powerful message."
  • According to Vogue magazine, Danilova's wool cape was once worn by famed American performance artist Marina Abramovic.
  • Danilova told Spin magazine that escaping to the forest is something that she'd love to do. "I'd inherently feel better about myself as a human being if I was removed from humanity," she said. "There's a sense of freedom in living out in the uninhabited world. I definitely fantasize about that."
  • The album title also references Danilova's love of nature, Taiga being the Russian name for the boreal forest.

    Fun, Fun, Fun Lyrics

Well she got her daddy's car
And she cruised through the hamburger stand now
Seems she forgot all about the library
Like she told her old man now
    And with the radio blasting
Goes cruising just as fast as she can now

And she'll have Fun, Fun, Fun
Till her daddy takes the t-bird away
(Fun, fun, fun till her daddy takes the t-bird away)

Well the girls can't stand her
'Cause she walks, looks, and drives like an ace now
(You walk like an ace now, you walk like an ace)
She makes the Indy 500 look like a Roman chariot race now
(You look like an ace now, you look like an ace)
A lotta guys try to catch her
But she leads them on a wild goose chase now
(You drive like an ace now, you drive like an ace)

And she'll have fun, fun, fun
Till her daddy takes the t-bird away
(Fun, fun, fun till her daddy takes the t-bird away)

    Well you knew all along
That your dad was gettin' wise to you now
(You shouldn't have lied now, you shouldn't have lied)
And since he took your set of keys
You've been thinking that your fun is all through now
(You shouldn't have lied now, you shouldn't have lied)

But you can come along with me
'Cause we gotta a lot of things to do now
(You shouldn't have lied now, you shouldn't have lied)

And we'll have fun, fun, fun now that daddy took the t-bird away
(Fun, fun, fun now that daddy took the t-bird away)
And we'll have fun, fun, fun now that daddy took the t-bird away

  • In this classic American song about girls and cars, a rebellious daughter borrows her dad's Ford Thunderbid, claiming she's going to the library to study (yeah, right). Instead, she uses it to show up other drivers. Her dad eventually finds out and takes his T-Bird back, but she retaliates by running off with someone who fell in love with her after watching her drive.

The song was written by Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, with some of the lyrics by lead singer Mike Love, as he was much more attuned to teen culture than his cousin Brian. Love told us : "I suggested that we write a song about a girl who borrows her dad's car and goes cruising, rather than to the library, 'like she told her old man, now.' So I came up with the concept and the lyrics, and Brian went in and recorded the track. And I even told him, it's got to start like a Chuck Berry song with a guitar lead intro, which Carl Wilson supplied. And so that's how that came to pass."

Until some legal wrangling sorted out the songwriting credits in the '90s, this song was solely credited to Brian Wilson. As Love tells it, the reason he wasn't credited on this and some other Beach Boys songs he helped write was because Murry Wilson (father of band members Brian, Carl and Dennis), administrated the publishing rights and left him off the credits.
  • There have been many rumors about the identity of the girl in the song, but when we spoke with Beach Boys lead singer Mike Love, he said: "As far as I knew, there was no particular person that was the inspiration for that song. It was more generic. Because, what kid, when they get their driver's license, doesn't want to borrow the family car and they go cruisin' through the hamburger stand, or they say they need to go to the library, but who knows? [Laughing] Sometimes other thoughts become more attractive."

Here are the most common stories we've heard about who the girl is supposedly about:
A girl Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson was dating. She came from a rich family in Palos Verdes, Los Angeles and used to tell her father she was going to study at the library and needed his Ford Thunderbird to get there. Instead of driving to the library, she would hang out with Dennis at his apartment. Dennis would say, "We'll have fun till her daddy takes the T'bird away," and this became the hook.

Shirley Johnson England, whose father, Howard, owned the Utah radio station KNAK. Shirley claims that she used to borrow her dad's T-Bird, and one day got caught taking it to the drive-in instead of the library. The Beach Boys spent a lot of time at the station for promotional appearances, and when they heard this story, they wrote the song about Shirley.
  • The Wilsons' father Murray had very conservative values and felt this song was immoral. Murray served as their manager, and by many accounts was very controlling. He didn't get his way on this one, and was removed as manager a few months later. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)
  • The Beach Boys were on tour in Australia and when they returned to the States, Beatlemania had come to town. This was the Beach Boys' next hit, and while now regarded as a classic, at the time it was almost eclipsed by the Mop Tops. (thanks, Jo - Sheffield, England)
  • The intro was copied from Chuck Berry's "Johnny B Goode." Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys were heavily influenced by Chuck Berry. (thanks, Brandon - Seattle, WA)
  • In 1996 the British rock band Status Quo did a version of the song with The Beach Boys. Despite peaking at #24 on the UK charts it wasn't played on BBC Radio 1. An angry Status Quo threatened legal proceedings against the national station, claiming they were wrong to not playlist the song in spite of it making the Top 40.

    Too Young to Die Lyrics

    Everybody
    Don't want no war,
'Cause we're Too Young to Die,
    So many people,
    All around the world,
    Seen their brothers fry.
    What's the motive?
    In your madness.
    You've made my people cry.
    So politicians this time
    Keep your distance.
'Cause we're too young to die.
You know we're too young to die,
You know we're too young to die,
You know we're too young to die,
You know we're too young to die,

    What's the answer?
    To our problems.
I think we've gone too high,
    Little children,
    Never said a word now,
But still they have to die.
    It won't be long.
    Dancing like we do now,
To put this sad world right.
    So don't you worry,
    Suffer no more,
'Cause we're too young to die.
You know we're too young to die,
You know we're too young to die,
You know we're too young to die,
You know we're too young to die,

All gone when they drop the bomb.
    Can the politicians reassure?
'Cause here I am presuming that
    Nobody wants a war
    There's so many people praying
Just to find out if they're staying.
    But lately stately governments
    And disillusioned leaders,
    So full of empty promises
But rarely do they feed us.
Put our backs against the wall,
Or don't we count at all?

    Can you decide,
    Are you mesmerized.
Do you know which side you're standing?
'Cause when it falls gonna take us all.
    Gotta know what we're demanding,
    I never lie,
    Can't your hear the cry,
    Coming from on high,
    We're too young to die.

Too Young to Die Song Chart
  • Written by Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay and keyboardist Toby Smith, this anti-war song received little daytime airplay upon its debut but somehow managed to land at #15 on the UK charts. It eventually peaked at #10.
  • Jay Kay places the success of this song squarely on the shoulders of the listening public, not the record label (Sony) or the media. He told The Melody Maker: "The point is that Jamiroquai isn't a record company product. It's people power that has put 'Too Young To Die' in the Top 20. That's why I'm not bothered about the media attention we're getting now. I know we can live up to it. If we couldn't, I'd be sh----ing my pants."
  • Fitting in with the environmentally conscious Emergency on Planet Earth album, this song transcends its anti-war message and encourages compassion for the earth and all its beings. Jay Kay explained to The Melody Maker:

"'Too Young To Die' is an anti-war song, yeah, but it's not just about people. It's about all forms of life - the animals, the trees, the planet itself. They're all too young to die. But that's exactly what's gonna happen if we don't start treating the world properly. You'd better believe it, man."
  • The original version of this song clocks in at 10:18 but was cut down to 3:22 for the single and 6:05 for the album, though the original vinyl version contains the full track.

    Love
    Love Will Keep Us Together
    Think of me babe, whenever
Some sweet-talking girl comes along, singing her song
Don't mess around, you've just got to be strong, just stop
'Cause I really love you, stop
    I'll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love keep us together

    You
    You belong to me now
Ain't gonna set you free now
When those girl start hanging around talking me down
Hear with your heart and you won't hear a sound, just stop (stop)
'Cause I really love you, stop (stop)
    I'll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love keep us together

    Whatever
    Young and beautiful
But someday your looks will be gone
When the others turn you off
    Who'll be turning you on?

    I will, I will, I will
I will be there to share forever
    Love will keep us together
I said it before and I'll say it again while others pretend
I need you now and I'll need you then, just stop (stop)
'Cause I really love you, stop (stop)
    I'll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love keep us together

    Whatever, ba-ba-ba-ba-ba, whatever
    I will, I will, I will, I will

    You better stop
'Cause I really love you, stop (stop)
    I'll be thinking of you

  • Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield wrote this in 1973 - it was the last song the longtime songwriting partners put together. They wrote it about their collaboration since their high school days, but it was a great selection for Captain & Tennille, who had recently gotten married.
  • Neil Sedaka recorded this for his Sedaka's Back LP before Captain & Tennille did their version. Toni Tennille loved it when she first heard the song.
  • Captain & Tennille's first A&M single, this was almost not the first song from their first album because Daryl Dragon (The Captain) wanted "I Write The Songs," written by Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys, released instead. Dragon was formerly a keyboard player for The Beach Boys.
  • Daryl Dragon and Toni Tennille kept together for nearly 40 years. Both came from musical families and had some success before they teamed up, both professionally and romantically. They did very well as a team, but in 2014 this item was posted on their website , explaining that Toni had met with a divorce attorney:

The Captain & Tennille appeared to the public as them being the ideal model for a "rock-solid' married pair. But almost all people naturally evolve over time, & sometimes hidden feelings start to be uncovered when one may read, just a little more into (the popularized, substitute heading appearing just below), stating, for instance: "Music Has Kept Them Together."
  • This was Captain & Tennille's first #1 hit, and it was the biggest pop hit of 1975 (the song also went to #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart). The duo had one more Hot 100 chart-topper, when five years later they scored with "Do That to Me One More Time," which was written by Toni Tennille.
  • As a tribute to Neil Sedaka, you can hear the phrase "Sedaka is back" in the fadeout of the song. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)
  • This won the 1975 Grammy for Record of the Year.
  • On August 16, 1975, as the English version was going down the Hot 100 chart, Captain & Tennille had a Spanish version of the same song ("Por Amor Viviremos") enter the chart. It was the only time an act had two versions of the same song - in different languages and on different singles - simultaneously on the Hot 100. Their entire Love Will Keep Us Together album was entirely re-recorded in Spanish and released. In addition, some reissues of the English version LP had the title track in both languages. A&M identified these versions with stickers on the shrink wrap.
  • Nickelback recorded a cover of this song in 2001 for the Andrew Denton Breakfast show's Musical Challenge on Sydney radio station triple M. (thanks, Lynne - Sydney, Australia)
  • This was featured in the 2001 movie Get Over It, starring Ben Foster, Kirsten Dunst, and Sisqo. It was played as the opening song to his musical dream montage. In the montage, he walks home with a box of things his recent ex-girlfriend gave him back. As he walks along, Vitamin C (the singer) starts "singing" this song and eventually more and more people continue to follow him, making a street parade. (thanks, Kristy - La Porte City, IA)
  • The seminal British group Joy Division released a song in 1980 called "Love Will Tear Us Apart," which was a take-off on this song from the perspective of a depressed individual. It was for real: the lyric was written by Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis, who was in a state of despair. Curtis killed himself before the song was released.

    Big Bad John Lyrics

    (Big John, big John)
Every mornin' at the mine you could see him arrive
He stood six foot six and weighed two forty five
Kinda broad at the shoulder and narrow at the hip
And everybody knew ya didn't give no lip to big John
(Big John, big John) Big Bad John (big John)

Nobody seemed to know where John called home
He just drifted into town and stayed all alone
He didn't say much, kinda quiet and shy
And if you spoke at all, you just said hi to Big John

Somebody said he came from New Orleans
Where he got in a fight over a Cajun Queen
And a crashin' blow from a huge right hand
Sent a Louisiana fellow to the promised land, big John
(Big John, big John) big bad John (big John)

Then came the day at the bottom of the mine
When a timber cracked and men started cryin'
Miners were prayin' and hearts beat fast
And everybody thought that they'd breathed their last, 'cept John

Through the dust and the smoke of this man-made hell
Walked a giant of a man that the miners knew well
Grabbed a saggin' timber, gave out with a groan
And like a giant oak tree he just stood there alone, big John
(Big John, big John) big bad John (big John)

And with all of his strength he gave a mighty shove
Then a miner yelled out, there's a light up above
And twenty men scrambled from a would-be grave
Now there's only one left down there to save, big John

With jacks and timbers they started back down
Then came that rumble way down in the ground
And then smoke and gas belched out of that mine
Everybody knew it was the end of the line for big John
(Big John, big John) big bad John (big John)

Now they never reopened that worthless pit
They just placed a marble stand in front of it
These few words are written on that stand
At the bottom of this mine lies a big, big man, big John
(Big John, big John) big bad John (big John)

(Big John, big John) big bad John (big John)

You're so hot girl, you're looking so fine, like you don't already know
They say they'll treat you right, show you the city lights
Get you sipping on something you don't even like
I guess they don't know, they're on the wrong road
I know What You Wanna Hear

Truck tires on a two lane rolling
River rushing and a warm breeze blowing in
Hair all around to the sound
Of the radio singing in the background
    Gravel grinding, while we're finding
A little spot I can make a fire in
Top popping on an ice cold beer
I know what you wanna hear
Ain't that music to your ears?

Tell me, have I got you figured out?
Baby, ain't that what you're all about?
Do I make you wanna leave this crowd and head on outta here
'Cause I can tell by that little shy smile
What I'm talking bout's a little more of your style
It'll only take a couple of miles to the

Truck tires on a two lane rolling
River rushing and a warm breeze blowing in
Hair all around to the sound
Of the radio singing in the background
    Gravel grinding, while we're finding
A little spot I can make a fire in
Top popping on an ice cold beer
I know what you wanna hear

They say they'll treat you right, show you the city lights
Get you sipping on something you don't even like, girl
They don't know, but I know, I know you like

Truck tires on a two lane rolling
River rushing and a warm breeze blowing in
Hair all around to the sound
Of the radio singing in the background
    Gravel grinding, while we're finding
A little spot I can make a fire in
Top popping on an ice cold beer
I know what you wanna hear
I know what you wanna hear, girl
Oh yeah, ain't that music to your ears?

  • This Rhett Akins, Ben Hayslip and Ashley Gorley penned song is one Lynch very much relates to. "I'm definitely a down home guy," said the singer. "If I have a day off, I'm driving the country roads just chillin' out or going home to turkey hunt and going fishing on the river. Lyrically I relate to that song because it's what I do and musically it's so catchy."

    Breathless Lyrics

    Now, if you love me,
    let's please don't tease
If I can hold you then
    let me squeeze
My heart goes 'round and 'round
    My love comes tumblin' down

    You leave me Breathless
Oh, I shake all over and
    you know why
    I'm sure it's love and
    that's no lie
'cause when you call my name
    I burn like wood inflamed

    You leave me Breathless
    Oh, baby! Mm-mm. Crazy!
    You're much too much
    I can't love you enough
Now it's all right to hold me tight,
    but when you love me
    love me right

    Now, come on, baby
    Don't be shy
'cause love was meant for you and I
    Wind, rain, sleet or snow
I will be wherever you go
    You leave me Breathless

    Breathless Song Chart
  • This was sinking without a trace when Dick Clark made the following offer on his show: a free copy of the "Breathless" 45 for 5 Beechnut gum wrappers and fifty cents shipping and handling. As a result "Breathless" reached the Top 10 and Beechnut outsold Wrigley for only the third time in history.
  • This was Lewis's last Top 10 hit before his career was derailed by scandal. He married the 13-year-old daughter of his cousin, and when word got out, radio stations stopped playing his songs.
  • Richard Gere's 1983 movie Breathless featured both Jerry Lee Lewis' hit of the same name and a version by the LA punk group X. In the film, Gere sings some of the song to his love interest before grabbing a gun and firing on police who are closing in on him. The credits then roll as the X version plays.

So how did X end up recording the song? Before the band performed the song on their David Letterman Show appearance, X guitarist John Doe told the host: "They called us up and said, 'We hear you do a wonderful version of this song.' And we didn't, so we BS'd our way through it and said, 'Sure, of course we do.' We ran back to the studio, rehearsed it up and recorded it in about a week."

    Paris Lyrics

    The train pulled into Paris
Like a rocket to the moon.
    The station's like a circus

    Every face is a cartoon.
    And everyone's stoned on pride
    And drunk on cheap champagne.

    Tonight this joie de vivre
Sure don't live up to its name.
Now all I can say is

I'd give this world to you
    Every rock and every stone
    Every masterpiece in Rome

And if you'd ask me to
    I'd steal the Mona Lisa
Tear it up in little pieces

And lay them at your feet
For all the world to see.
But tonight I can't give you Paris.

    Aristicats are everywhere
And the air is as thick as thieves.
She'd like nothing better than to

    Steal the breath from me.
And the tower's lights ain't shinin'
As it hangs its head in shame

At the sight of American blood
On the streets of St. Germain
    Washin' up into the Seine

And I'd give this world to you
I'd steal the crown and kingdom
    From the Queen of England

And if you'd ask me to
I'd take this city in my hands
Break it down to grains of sand

And lay them at your feet
For all the world to see.
But tonight I can't give you Paris.

  • This was written by Troy Verges, Blair Daly and Gordie Sampson in London while the trio were penning songs for the latter's record. It tells the story of an incident that happened to Verges when the three songwriters popped over to Paris for Bastille Day. "We partied until late in the night, and around three in the morning we went to get in a cab to go home and a fight broke out in the cab line," Verges recalled to Rolling Stone Country. "And for the only time in my life, I ended up getting in this fight and got knocked out cold. My nose was broken, my face a bloody mess. I woke up in an ambulance on the way to the public hospital in Paris, and my friends lost me because they didn't have the address."

"The next morning, I walked around Paris trying to find my friends and we finally get on the train back to London and I'm covered in bandages, my nose is broken and I look like I had just killed someone," he continued. "We got back to London and started writing 'Paris.' It sounds like a love song, because that's just the way the lyrics came out, but it was about that night. Faith heard it and thought it was a love song, so we were kind of scared to tell her the real story behind that song."
