The title track of Jesse McCartney's Technicolor album, the song is split into two parts. "'In Technicolor,' I had a theory, and I still have this theory that we're all on planet Earth for a very short amount of time, as everyone knows, and basically we're here and we're searching for that one person that validates you or see you for what you're worth," McCartney explained to MTV News. "And until you find that person, your life is black and white, and that person puts the color in your world."

"So, 'In Technicolor' is a song that was written in two parts for this album and basically says that a lot more eloquently," he added, "and in a cool way on the album and just kind of has that retro sound to it so I think it matched the record musically as well."

This was not a hit when it was first released, but became very popular 30 years later when it was used in a UK ad campaign for Guinness beer.

This was the theme song to the 1969 Bond film Her Majesty's Secret Service. George Lazenby played Bond in that one, with Diana Rigg as the Bond girl. (thanks, Ben - London, England, for above 2)

Singer-songwriter Josh Record hails from Stroud, Gloucestershire in South England. This is the title track from his 2013 self-produced EP The War.

The song received critical acclaim and BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe made it his "Hottest Record of 2013." Record told The Sun. "I've never just sat down to write a song for the sake of it – I normally write when I'm an absolute wreck."

"The first song I ever put out was called 'The War.' Zane Lowe then downloaded it off YouTube and played it on Radio 1. It was kinda illegal but I like it!"

Record also included the track on his 2014 debut album, Pillars.

One Mint Julep

A Mint Julep is a drink made with bourbon, sugar, and cracked ice. Served with a sprig of mint, it is a traditional drink at horse races.

The Clovers did the original version in 1952 (with a cover by Louis Prima the same year), but Charles made it uniquely his own. Other artists to record the song include Sarah Vaughan, Duane Eddy, Count Basie, King Curtis and The Ventures.

Released on ABC's Impulse! Jazz label, Charles' recording was a surprise hit. The producer was Creed Taylor, who started the Impulse! label. Charles' one and only album with Impulse! was due to their association with ABC Records, whom he was signed to.

This song is mainly an instrumental, with room for some improvised vocals. Taylor takes credit for the one vocal line in Ray's version of the song, stating he told Charles that during the break in the instrumental, he wanted Charles to say, "Just a little bit of soda." Charles seemed hesitant for a bit, but complied... sort of. Instead, he said, "Just a little bit of SOUL, yeah!" Interestingly, this "incidental" line helped further fuel the Soul Music Movement of the 60s. In addition, several other acts began using the phrase in their own way, most noticeably Little Stevie Wonder in his first hit, "Fingertips (Part 2)." (thanks, Faundell - Brooklyn, NJ, for above 2)

Paradise Is You

This song finds La Roux's Elly Jackson in tropical paradise away from her beloved. However, without her lover, the palm-lined beach is "nothing nice."

The song is a track from La Roux's Trouble In Paradise album. Jackson explained its title to NME: "There are lot of themes to the record and I think that 'Trouble In Paradise' is a nice umbrella title," she said. "In songs I like the juxtaposition between dark and light. It's that feeling you get when you're in a club and there's a tune that's essentially a happy tune, but there's something about it that's melancholy – whether it's a chord, or one part of the melody, or one line of the lyrics – and it makes you feel like you could cry, but also run at the same time. That's what really gets me – that mood – and that's what the record tries to capture."

This track and the rest of the album's sunny atmosphere comes from growing up in Brixton, where La Roux still lives. (A large percentage of Brixton's population is of African and Caribbean descent). "I never really felt it came out on my first record," she told The Independent, "but I've always been fascinated by Caribbean culture."

Busted

The Nashville songwriter Harlan Howard wrote this in 1962. It was originally recorded by Johnny Cash that year, but it became a hit in 1963 Charles did a Soul version. Both Johnny Cash and Ray Charles could have a lot of fun with their music, and that's the case here as they sing from the perspective of a farmer who could really use a government bailout. He can't even borrow some cash, since everyone else is busted too. (thanks, Brett - Edmonton, Canada)

This was the 1963 Grammy winner for Best Rhythm and Blues Recording.

This song's writer Harlan Howard was a prolific, legendary songwriter. Country Universe quotes him explaining some of the songwriting technique that went into "Busted": "The only thing I know to do with songs like "Why Not Me" and "Busted" – which I never thought was a good title – is to put the title in there often so that people remember it. The weaker the title, the more you gotta hear it."

This song describes a house party gone right. "It's a party song, but it has a cool, laid-back feel," Love and Theft's Eric Gunderson said. "A few people I've talked to at country radio recently said there's a lot of stuff on the radio right now that sounds the same, and this is very fresh, and it's a different take on a song that a lot of people are tryin' to put out. So, we're excited about it."

Gunderson and his Love & Theft partner Stephen Barker Liles called in some colleagues to help out on the hook. "This is the first time we've ever had a party song at radio, but playing clubs all these years, we've had a few of these nights where you lose track of time celebrating," Liles explained. "We had a blast recording the song, and some of the RCA promotion staff joined us in the studio and sang on the chorus, and it's cool to have the people working the song singing on it."

You Are My Sunshine

This was written by Jimmie Davis and his guitar player Charles Mitchell, who first recorded it in 1940, a year after both the Pine Ridge Boys and the The Rice Brothers Gang introduced it (some historians claim Paul Rice actually wrote the tune and sold it to Davis). Davis was a prolific songwriter who became Governor of Louisiana a few years after.

Bing Crosby was the first to have a hit with this song. His version went to #20 in the US in 1941.

This was sung on the "It Was a GOOD Life" episode of The Twilight Zone by a neighbor of a supernatural little boy -- before the boy changes the neighbor into a jack-in-the-box and buries him in a cornfield.

Staircase at the University

This satire of academic expectations depicts the suicide of an over-pressured student. Producer Joe Chiccarelli recalled to Radio.com : "I went through that: I got a scholarship, and my parents were like, 'You're not going to coast by, just because you got a scholarship!' I went to Catholic school, so I understand guilt. Who can't relate to this song? Everybody at some point in their life gets that torture from their parents, to different degrees. It's so universal."

Chiccarelli found this a difficult track to put together in the studio. "There were those long musical sections that Moz really wanted in there," he explained. "So I had to figure out what to do, to keep your interest. There's one section where the strings are featured more, one section where the guitar is featured more. There were definitely challenges."

This Spanish-tinged Pop cut about stolen kisses was originally earmarked to be a B-side rather than a World Peace Is None of Your Business track. However, after sequencing the album, Morrissey added the tune as he felt like there needed to be a lighter, more energetic song.

It was Morrissey's idea for keyboardist Gustavo Manzur to sing the "Bésame mucho" part. Producer Joe Chiccarelli recalled to Radio.com : "I remember him asking Gus, "How do you say 'Kiss me a lot' in Spanish?" It's "Bésame mucho!"

Guitarist Tom DeLonge wrote this for his girlfriend after she complained that he always writes songs about other girls. He was afraid it wouldn't be good so he kept telling her it was terrible. It ended up being a hit and she was very pleased with it. (thanks, Colin - Colbert, WA)

According to DeLonge, the lyrics are true. His girlfriend really did leave him roses by the stairs after a long night in the studio.

The group performed this at both the 1999 and 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. At the 2000 performance, where this won for Best Group Video, a bunch of "little people" joined the band. Many of them danced on stage, and a few swung from wires while pyrotechnics exploded overhead.

Blink-182 bass player Mark Hoppus met Skye Everly, the woman who would become his wife, on the shoot for this video.

This song was used in the Simpsons episode when Bart got a "split" from Homer and moved into the row under Tony Hawk's skate/party room. (thanks, Britt - Tville, Australia)

In 2010, Irish pop duo Jedward recorded their own version of the song on their album Planet Jedward. Their version reached #21 in the Irish singles charts. Hoppus told Spinner UK that he was happy for the former X-Factor finalists to cover the track. Said Hoppus: "I have heard the cover. It's funny 'cause all of a sudden on the online forums and my Twitter people started talking about this band covering 'All the Small Things' - it was everything from 'Finally a good band plays this song' to 'How did you guys ever let a band cover your song?' I think that bands can cover whatever songs - we never gave permission for them but I don't think we needed to, I think any band can cover anyone else's song." (If you're unfamiliar with Jedward, you can see them in action here. And Hoppus is correct, anyone can cover any song as long as they pay the mechanical licensing fee.)

Tom DeLonge admitted to NME in 2014 that he can no longer listen to this song. "It came on the radio the other day," he said, "and I was like, 'I sound like I'm f--king 11.'"

"It's still played everywhere, but I don't know why," DeLonge added. "Blink has some really great songs that I think have legs to stand around for a long period of time. But that's not one of them and it haunts me!"
