Maynard James Keenan, in the A Perfect Circle EPK stated, "It's about being overlooked."

In the liner notes to the single, Keenan said: "Up until the mid twentieth century the mountain gorilla was considered a myth. Oddly enough, a legend not unlike Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster. The chance of actually seeing/experiencing this elusive shadow was as likely as finding one's soulmate. Rare. Precious. Even once discovered they seemed unapproachable. The only way to get close to this magnificent creature was to become empathetic. Abandon all pretense and preconceptions. To bare an open throat. To collapse into the arms of vulnerability. All but extinct, these beings/moments are threatened by the black hearted. The cold and oblivious. The empty eyed profit seekers that overlook these Rare. Precious." Keenan shed some more light on this song in their aMotion DVD, where he explained that this is a song about parasitic-like people seeing something different or special about a person. Instead of nurturing that quality or helping that person grow, the "3 Libras" feed off of the energy in a bad way instead of using it for good.

On aMotion, Keenan also mentioned that he wrote the song for about 9 or so people in his life that have birthdays around the same time, hence the name "3 Libras." Dispatch's vocalist and guitarist, Chad Urmston, told us that this song is even more relevant now than it was in 1998: "It's more relevant today than it was when I wrote it. I've always been fascinated by war and been lucky enough not to have the hands in experience. Urmston told us this song was inspired by "a summer of playing Hendrix's "Castles Made of Sand† constantly."

In The Best of Dispatch, Chad Urmston explains: "This was our anti-war song. Although it was primarily based on the Civil War, the message was not confined to that particular conflict. We were too young to be directly involved in the Gulf War; nevertheless, the sense of a troubled history rings loud in the heads of young men who grow up listening to grandfathers or fathers recount war stories. The crowd response to this song always blew us away. Some said it had a 'Castles Made of Sand' feel - any reference to Hendrix we took gladly. We recorded the song up in the northeast kingdom on borrowed instruments. Our hazy-eyed hairball engineer swayed like a derelict wrecking ball over the console like a played-out carnie with nothing to show for a lifetime of swindling. His down-to-the-filter cigarette wandered listlessly with a skeletal droop of ash as he leaned on his crippled office chair teasing gravity. He ended up giving in to his heavy eyes and passing out on the couch with his feet up, still holding the cigarette as Brad and I took turns pressing the 'record' and 'locate' buttons." Martina McBride and Kelly Clarkson combined in their first-ever studio duet together, to cover a 1966 Etta James pair-up with Sugar Pie DeSanto. McBride told Billboard magazine about this hookup with the American Idol alumna. "I wanted to do a song that was a little bit unexpected for us," she said. "I think people would expect the two of us to get together and do this big ballad, but I found this song, and thought it was so much fun. It fits her personality, and it has a lot of fun energy and is very vivacious. So, we recorded it together, and I think it turned out great."

Clarkson and McBride previously sang live together in 2006 when they honored Reba McEntire on CMT Giants, performing "Does He Love You."

This is probably the least known of the covers that McBride recorded for her Everlasting album. "I wasn't super familiar with it, to be honest," she told Billboard magazine. "I discovered it along the way. That's one of the great things about this record – I discovered a lot of music while listening to thousands of songs. That was a really great process for me too."

Everlasting was released on McBride's own Vinyl Recordings label through Kobalt Label Services. It spent its first week at #1 on the Country chart, a history making feat for Martina McBride as she became the first woman ever to debut at #1 with an independently released and distributed album.

Spam is a brand name of luncheon meat. It's name is a contraction of the words "spiced ham." Years later, the term "Spam" was used to describe junk e-mail.

This song first appeared on the the 25th episode of the TV show Monty Python's Flying Circus, which was titled, appropriately enough, "Spam." On the show, a group of Vikings attempt to sing this song while Eric Idle and Graham Chapman (in drag) are ordering breakfast from Terry Jones, who recites the menu on which almost everything contains some spam. This big ballad was penned by American songwriter Dianne Warren, who has previously written hits for the likes of Cher ("If I Could Turn Back Time") and Aerosmith ("I Don't Want to Miss a Thing").

This is one of several tracks on A Perfect Contradiction that find Faith singing about the dark side of love. "I do think I'm a tragic romantic," she told The Metro. "Actually, the benchmark was Candi Staton's 'Young Hearts Run Free,' that kind of song where you acknowledge hardship or sadness but you inject hope into it."

"When it comes on at a party, everyone just thinks: 'Yeah, some hard things have happened, I'm often my own worst enemy – but screw it, let's dance,'" she added.

Having trouble playing along to this song? That's because it was recorded slightly out of tune. This was released as a single and was not was available on any album apart from the Australian release of Definitely Maybe, which contained an extra disc included with the song. The single was released around Christmas 1994, and got them their highest chart entry to that date.

The first line: "I'm free to be whatever I, whatever I like if it's wrong or right it's all right," was written by Noel Gallagher about how his dad used to make him work on a building site with him as a teenager. In the US, this was released as a bonus track on the album. In France, Definitely Maybe was released with a bonus edition CD featuring this track. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)

The strings were arranged by Nick Ingham and Noel Gallagher and were played by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, which featured former ELO violinist Wilf Gibson.

The song has spent a total of 51 weeks on the UK Singles chart to date, more than any Oasis single. This included a re-entry for one week on June 20, 2010 at #64 due to the release of the Oasis singles compilation Time Flies... 1994–2009 - the first time that "Whatever" has been available to purchase digitally.

Part of the song's melody was borrowed from Neil Innes' 1973 song "How Sweet to Be an Idiot." Innes successfully sued Oasis for plagiarism and as a result now receives royalties and a co-writing credit. As a certain Alanis Morissette song goes this was ironic, because Innes is famed for his parodies of The Beatles in The Rutles, and has had to share songwriting credits and royalties with Lennon and McCartney.

The band knew this song was a hit as soon as Noel Gallagher first played it to them. Rhythm Guitarist Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs recalled to Q magazine in 2011: "Noel had shown us Whatever very early on and it freaked my head out. It was like, 'Nah you haven't f---ing written that.' It was brilliant."

This Living for the Weekend track was released as the fifth single from the album. A "radio remix" version of the song was dropped as the single, while the EP contained three remixes and new B-side "Bigger."

The song was written by:

Anthony Egizii and David Musumeci of the Australian songwriting and production company DNA Songs. Their other credits include Ricky Martin's "Come With Me" and Samantha Jade's "Soldier."

Celetia Martin, who has also written for Ashley Tisdale ("Goin' Crazy") and Conor Maynard ("Just in Case").

Swedish songwriter and producer Carl Ryden, who also produced the track. He also has Booty Luv's 2007 UK Top 20 hit "Some Kinda Rush" on his resume, as well as Cher's tracks Red" and "Pride" from her 2013 album Closer to the Truth.

Carla Marie Williams of the British songwriting and production team Xenomania, who also has credits on three of Girls Aloud's hit singles, including their #1 hit "The Promise." She also co-penned Amelia Lily's debut release "You Bring Me Joy."

The accompanying music video was filmed on January 28, 2014 and marked Frankie Sandford's official return to the group, after taking time off to have her first child. The clip shows the girls performing with glowing sticks. The girls are all dressed all in black, wearing outfits created by celebrity fashion designer Nikita Karizma.

Message In Blood

Lead singer Phil Anselmo wrote this song from the perspective of Charles Manson, whose followers left messages in blood after killing their victims.

Manson built up a group of followers in the late '60s that were known as his "Family." His cult grew to about 100 people, with a few ardent followers willing to kill on his behalf. On August 9, 1969, four members of this group brutally murdered four people (including the actress Sharon Tate) at a home in Beverly Hills, California. The following night, they killed again, murdering a wealthy couple: Leno and Rosemary LaBianca.

After the Tate murders, one of the killers scrawled the word "pig" on the front door in Tate's blood; various messages, including the phrase "Healter Skelter," were written in blood at the LaBianca home.

Phil Anselmo has pointed out that Charles Manson never actually killed anybody. He often makes the point that while Manson is notorious for the crimes, everyone has free will, and the actual killers deserve the blame. This belief in personal accountability is a core precept in metal: if Pantera's listeners did everything their songs told them to, they would all be in jail and Anselmo would get the blame just like Manson.

Pantera made another Charles Manson reference in their 2000 song "Uplift" - the first line of the song is a quote by Manson: "No sense makes sense."

Phil Anselmo's band Superjoint Ritual also has a song about Manson called "Creepy Crawl," which is on their 2002 album Use Once and Destroy.

In our interview with Rex Brown , the Pantera bassist explained that they worked up this song at a west Forth Worth club called Joe's Garage, where the band played some of their early gigs. Since they didn't have a rehearsal space at the time, Pantera would use the clubs to practice and work on songs.

Trouble's Lament

This song finds Amos singing about the thrill of danger. The singer said that her Southern roots were influential when writing this tune. "Having been born in North Carolina, the South walks with me wherever I am in the world," said Amos. "I can't get it out of my DNA. I don't know if it's a genetic thing, because my mother's side, so far back, is from the Eastern Cherokee nation. So it's really in the blood. It's almost like you listen to the land speaking to you. And wherever I am, I can hear the South calling me."

"I really like the idea that trouble was a young woman," she added. "I see her on my travels a lot. And maybe I knew her many years ago when I was in my 20s."

The line "I wager she got betrayed by her friend Despair" is a reference to English author Neil Gaiman's comic book Sandman series. Amos told Radio.com : "Neil's one of my best friends. My brother Neil, my spirit brother of over twenty years: he ends up skating through many of my songs. There's a shared love for mythology there. That's a real driving factor in our [respective] work. I always wanted to."

Sandman fan Tori Amos became friends with Gaiman after making a reference to "Neil and the Dream King" on her 1991 demo tape. He included her in turn as a talking tree in his novel Stardust. Amos has continued to mention Gaiman in her songs, one example being in "Space Dog" where she sings "Where's Neil when you need him?"
