Giving Into Seeing

This song finds Dylan Baldi screaming "swallow." Radio.com asked the vocalist how many times he had to scream to get it right. Baldi replied: "That's all like first take stuff. Yeah, my voice can just do that stuff like endlessly."

"But, the reason I chose 'swallow,' which honestly, has nothing to do with the song, is because my girlfriend is French and I asked her what her favorite English word was, because I wanted to repeat one word over and over and didn't know what to say," he continued. "She said it was 'swallow' so I was like, 'Alright, I'll just say the word "swallow."' Yeah, it ended up sounding good. It does sound pained. But it didn't hurt."

Clumsy

Lead singer Raine Maida said: "There's a connection between the song 'Clumsy' and it being the title of the album. There's a line in the song that says: 'I'll be waving my hand/watching you drown/watching you scream', it's about seeing something but not seeing it for what it really is. It's about decisions. That image of 'waving your hand/watching you drown,' is about seeing someone in the water, they're waving at you, and you're just waving back, not realizing that they're drowning. Or you think they're drowning, but they're just waving at you. It's those weird situations where you just take something at face value, but you can be so wrong. You have to look deeper and question things. I think it's something that too many people don't do these days. We're so inundated with the f--king media, and you just believe it. How many times, not just to focus on us, have we read an interview or an article where we've been completely misquoted? In 2012, Our Lady Peace lead singer Raine Maida told us that this song still felt important to him, even though it was over 15 years old. Maida elaborated by stating, "I have to say, for whatever reason, most of the stuff that I've written about seems to still have a lot of relevance to me."

Maida says he's asked all the time whether or not he gets sick of playing the same hit songs (such as "Clumsy") over and over again. The answer is always a defiant "No." Maida explained, "There are songs that we'll never play just because they don't feel relevant; they don't feel authentic to us, which is fine, because I think every band probably has some of those songs. But we're not one of those bands that aren't going to play one of our hit singles just to spite people or whatever. That's just not in our thinking. We don't operate that way. So we're lucky, I guess."

Our Lady Peace frontman Raine Maida said performing the Clumsy album in its entirety on tour in 2010 seemed "a little scattered to me." Maida says there were a few songs on that album where he felt OLP missed the mark, but added "But hey, that's life, you know?"

Faul & Wad Ad is a French House duo comprising DJs Maxime, who records under the pseudonym of Faul, and Wad Ad, the stage name of Camil Meyer. The pair first met at their Parisian school and started to produce music in between their studies.

Pnau is an Australian dance act, consisting of vocalist Nick Littlemore - best known for being one half of Empire of the Sun ("We Are The People") - and guitarist Peter Mayes. In 2012, Pnau released Good Morning to the Night, a collaborative record with Sir Elton John, which gave the knighted star his first #1 album in the UK for over two decades.

Faul & Wad Ad came across Pnau's 2008 single "Baby," which samples a children's choir and was a Top 40 hit for the pair in Australia. The Parisian duo put their deep house style spin on it and placed their adaptation online. They titled the new tune "Changes" and credited both the French and Australian sides of the creative process in equal measure. The track went on to become an international hit topping the German singles chart and reaching the Top Ten in many other European countries.

In 1997, Our Lady Peace frontman Raine Maida wrote this song about how hard it is to be a kid growing up surrounded by media, TV images, and outside pressures to look or feel a certain way. When we caught up with Maida in 2012, he thought the song felt more relevant than ever before. Maida explained, "That's probably the genius of that song, not by any part on me, but just the fact that I think the trend has gotten even tougher for kids these days. It seems that if you talk about the world going faster, my analogy back then was the subway. Now it's like we've hit light speed with ADD and the technology. I mean, just to stay focused for 20 minutes, I can hardly do it. You're just inundated. Our senses are on overload, for sure."

Lead singer Raine Maida said of this song: "It's just about how hard it is for kids to grow up today. They're inundated with the media and images and cliques they try to have to fit into. Two images that are really strong for me lyrically are 'Ordinary's just not good enough today' and when I think of kids today, I would never think of a group of eight year olds going out to a baseball park and throwing the ball around. It doesn't happen anymore. I have a nine year old brother; he's either inside playing Nintendo or staying up late on a school night to watch Beavis And Butthead. This song is about how we vainly try to forget disappointment through short-lived hedonistic pursuits. It was first performed live by the Kaisers during their 2013 shows at London's Hyde Park and Leeds Arena.

The video was shot by James Slater (Mark Owen's "Stars," White Lies' "There Goes Our Love Again") in the Yorkshire Dales, not far from the band's hometown, It finds frontman Ricky Wilson strolling across the moors. The director told Promo News about the filming of the clip. "We shot the video in a jovially named place called Blubberhouses which is right on the southern cusp of the Yorkshire Dales, and not too far from where I'm from," he said. "Its also just up the road from where the band hail. I think we all just hankered after a bit of home cooking."

"I've never shot in Yorkshire before, I should do it more often," he continued. "The landscapes are great and as soon as DOP Jonathan Isles put the anamorphic lens on, it looked like a Western setting (if you ignore the rain, the wind, the grey skies and the lack of desert and Cacti)."

"The strip of land we shot on leant itself well to the one shot idea," Slater continued, "and thanks to the fantastic cast, crew (who all seemed to know each other from Heartbeat) and a really strong performance from Ricky, we had the take we needed after about ten attempts."

Vocalist and guitarist Stephen Battelle wrote this song after watching Les Misérables in the cinema. He told Kerrang!: "Due to me writing the song in my head on the way home, I wasn't able to perform it on a conventional instrument. I had a cocktail, and while sitting there I dreamt that I had a guitar with the width of a single string penetrating the body. I made a quick call to guitar luthier Nigel Roberts, and six weeks later 'The Penetrator' was born. Basically, I had a guitar built that can only be used for one song, but when a riff's that good it's worth the effort."

The band made the decision to pay tribute to the guitar greats of the last century on this song so it became 'The History Of The Guitar.' Batelle explained: "Using nine guitars, each passage and each riff was played on the guitar synonymous with that player – Hank Marvin on a Strat, Jimmy Page on a Les Paul, Brian May on a Brian May copy (obviously) and BB King on a Lucille."
