This was written and sung by group leader Eugene Record. The other three Chi-Lites (pronounced "Shy-Lites") contributed a few wordless harmonies and one line per verse.

According to the Independent newspaper from July 25, 2005, Eugene Record initially dismissed this song. Ragga Bomb

This song features vetera junglists Ragga Twins, who hail from Hackney, London. The pair, comprising, Deman Rockers and Flinty Badman, first came to prominence in the early 1990s with their Reggae Owes Me Money LP, which peaked at #26 on the UK album chart. They have since had a long term musical partnership with breaks and jungle group Aquasky and released a series of singles on various drum 'n' bass labels.

The Ragga Twins also featured on another Recess track, "All Is Fair In Love And Brostep."

Skrillex explained the song title to NME: "I didn't know what else to call it. It's all about that ragga vocal and the ragga vibe and the embedded jungle rhythm under it."

The song's music video was directed by Terence Neale, who also worked on Die Antwoord's controversial clip for "Fatty Boom Boom." It was shot on location in Johannesburg and Alexandra, South Africa.

Senile

This dark, minimal track originally started as a single for Tyga, who first got Nicki Minaj featured on it, then his label boss Lil Wayne. "Originally it was just a joint from my album that I was gonna drop and I just heard Nicki on it, so I went to the studio where she was recording, I played it for her, and she was like, 'You should put Wayne on it, too,'" Tyga recalled.

Due to Tyga's fourth studio album not coming out till later in 2014 they decided to include it on the Young Money compilation project.

Chicago-native producer David "DA" Doman (Tyga's "Do My Dance," Fabolous' "When I Feel Like It") supplied the beat. He told Vibe magazine: "Everybody killed their verses. Tyga brought back that low tone that he's famous for from 'Rack City.' Nicki absolutely murdered her verse too, she came really creative on it. Wayne went just totally crazy on the third verse."

Director Colin Tilley linked the Young Money boss with a different kind of family for the video. "It's just basically like some old Addams Family-type, trailer-park trash and Wayne is just like in these different houses going crazy," Tyga told MTV News.

Changes

This is a reflective song about defying your critics and stepping out on your own. It also touches on Bowie's penchant for artistic reinvention.

Bowie wrote this when he was going through a lot of personal change. Bowie's wife, Angela, was pregnant with the couple's first child, Duncan. Bowie got along very well with his father and was very excited to have a child of his own. This optimism shines through in "Changes."

According to Bowie, this started out as a parody of a nightclub song - "kind of throwaway" - but people kept chanting for it at concerts and thus it became one of his most popular and enduring songs. Bowie had no idea it was going to become so successful, but the song connected with his young audience who could relate to lyrics like "These children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds, are immune to your consultations, they're quite aware of what they're going through."

Bowie had just started using a keyboard to write songs, which opened up new possibilities for him in terms of melody and structure. This fresh approach resulted in "Changes."

Bowie played the sax on this track, and his guitarist, Mick Ronson, arranged the strings. Rick Wakeman, who would later became a member of the prog rock band, Yes, played the piano parts at the beginning and end. Bowie gave Wakeman a lot of freedom, telling him to play the song like it was a piano piece. The piano Wakeman played was the famous 100-year old Bechstein at Trident Studios in London, where the album was recorded; the same piano used by Elton John, The Beatles and Genesis.

Bowie's stuttered vocals in this song ("Ch-Ch-Changes") are some of the most famous stutters in rock. It came well after "My G-G-Generation" but predated "B-B-B-Bennie And The Jets.

Country singer Gene Watson and Bluegrass/Country singer Rhonda Vincent recorded a duet of this song in 2007. They recorded their parts at the studio at separate times so, to their surprise, they first met when they went on stage to perform it at the Grand Ol' Opry. "I walk in, walk up to the stage, and we sang that song on live TV before we ever even said hello," Rhonda recalled in a Songfacts interview .

They must have hit it off, because they collaborated on "Staying Together" in 2009 and released the duet album Your Money and My Good Looks in 2011.

Owens recorded the song "Play Together Again, Again" with Emmylou Harris in 1979 after she released a successful version of this song on her Elite Hotel album a few years earlier.

Other notable covers came from Ray Charles in 1966 and a duet from Kenny Rogers and Dottie West in 1983.

Tom Brumley played the steel guitar on this song and inspired the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia to learn to play. This is about terrorism and the forces of destructive people against those that long for a a time of peace. Specifically, it's a response to the attacks by terrorist on September 11, 2001 against the United States. Rhonda Vincent originally wrote this song as a surprise for her friend - and fan club president - Julia Mottesheard. Neil Sedaka wrote this song with Philip Cody , who collaborated with Sedaka on his comeback hits "Laughter In The Rain" and "Bad Blood." In this song, the card game solitaire becomes a metaphor for loneliness, as a man finds himself alone after losing his love. Cody told us: "Neil just hit me with a lot of sad music, and that kind of thing for me was a surprise - I didn't know I had that in me. But Neil encouraged me to make him cry. So I went for that particular part of Neil's throat - I was trying to get a reaction out of Neil, and if I got a reaction out of Neil, I knew I'd done good. Because I had no idea what a hit song was. I'd been in the studio and I'd been out and about on the streets for six years at that point. But this was the first time that I ever really hooked up with anyone who actually knew what they were doing."

Neil Sedaka recorded this song in 1974, but it was the Carpenters who had the big hit with their 1975 recording, thanks to a mighty vocal performance by Karen Carpenter. Sedaka, who fell off the charts when the Beatles took over, enjoyed a resurgence as a performer and songwriter in the mid-'70, and this was one of his most successful compositions. Neil had to push for this song, as his publisher Don Kirshner didn't think much of it.

Some of the many artists to record this song include Andy Williams, Sheryl Crow, Elvis Presley and Clay Aiken. For the Andy Williams version, his producer Richard Perry asked the song's lyricist Philip Cody to change some of the words to make them easier to sing. Cody balked at first, and then came to accept that altering his words to accommodate a popular singer wasn't the worst thing in the world. Said Cody: "Once I let go of the idea that my lyrics were inviolate, it went rather smoothly. Over the course of time, as the Carpenters did the song, they basically did a mash-up of the old lyric and the new lyric, which actually was better than either of the two, the Andy Williams or Neil's original. I think the Carpenters' version was the one that I like best."

This is one of the few songs that was successful with singers of both genders. Philip Cody told us that when he wrote it, he imagined a female voice singing it. Said Phil: "When I heard Karen Carpenter, I had chills down my spine. As a lyricist, you want that thing where an artist owns your lyric. You can measure success by the amount of money you make off a song, but I measure the success of that song by that particular moment, when she made it totally her own. And it's still great. I sat down one day and I listened to all 90 versions of 'Solitaire' that people have done, and of all the ones that are out there, Karen Carpenter's is still the one that is the benchmark for all the covers on that song."

The Andy Williams version of this song was a #4 UK hit in 1973, two years before the Carpenters' version came out. There was a completely different song called "Solitaire" that was a hit for Laura Branigan in 1983.

This song became a hit duet from George Jones and his frequent collaborator Melba Montgomery. It debuted on Jones' 12th studio album and peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles charts.

Although the song is sometimes credited to Melba's brother, Earl "Peanutt" Montgomery, she actually penned it herself in a used van on the way to California. "I wrote the whole song on the back of a postcard in less than one hundred miles," she said.

Bluegrass singer Rhonda Vincent covered this song as a duet with Daryle Singletary for her Only Me album. Because both of them knew the song so well, they mistakenly thought they could knock it out within an hour and be done. Not so, Rhonda told The Boot: "We sang it, and we came into the control room and listened to it, thinking, 'We did a great job, we knew this, we knocked this out.' Mama Told Me (Not to Come)

This was written by Randy Newman , the nephew of Academy Award-winning composer Lionel Newman. The song is about a party that left a "bad taste" in the writer's mouth. The drug scene was fairly new to American middle-class youth at that time.

This song has the distinction of being the very first #1 hit on the American Top 40 syndicated radio program. The show, hosted by Casey Kasem, became popular on AM radio throughout the world until its decline in the mid-1990s. This beat out The Beatles' "The Long and Winding Road" (their last hit record before the final breakup) and Elvis Presley's "The Wonder of You" for top chart honors in early August, 1970. Newman's original version was included on his 1970 album 12 Songs. His version was only 2 minutes 12 seconds, over a minute shorter than Three Dog Night's version.

This is a track from Alesana's The Decade EP, which was released in celebration of their tenth anniversary as a band. Vocalist Shawn Milke explained this song's meaning to Artist Direct : "It's the idea of sitting at a poker table at three in the morning," he said. "You're about to run out of your money, and you decide to double up anyway."

"It's about us making our decision to leave home and start touring," Milke added. "We had become pretty popular in our hometown, and we thought, 'Maybe we could be popular in other cities?' We knew we didn't want to do anything half-assed. If we were going to do it, we were going to do it for real. The idea of 'Double or Nothing' is, 'Here it goes. We're either going to succeed or we're going to fail, but we're going to die trying.'"
