You're Mine Lyrics

You were insecure but I was so sure
But I wanted you
Yes I'm powerful, and a little girl
But I wanted you
So I told you so, wanted you to know
We've just one life to live

And I told you all my dreams and fears
And you looked at me and your eyes filled with tears
And you said those three words I'd been waiting for
You became a part of me, yeah

You're Mine, for life
And I'll be by your side
We are entwined
You're mine, for life,
Hold me until we die,
I'm yours and you are mine

I'm yours (I'm yours, I'm yours)
You're mine (You're mine, you're mine)
I'm yours (I'm yours, I'm yours)
You're mine (You're mine, you're mine)

Now I'm so happy you found a place for me
Boy you wanted me
Some security and two heartbeats
Boy you wanted me
Then you told me so, wanted me to know
You let the past go

And I told you all my dreams and fears
And you looked at me and your eyes filled with tears
And you said those three words I'd been waiting for
You became a part of me, yeah

You're mine, for life
And I'll be by your side
We are entwined
You're mine, for life,
Hold me until we die,
I'm yours and you are mine

I'm yours (I'm yours, I'm yours)
You're mine (You're mine, you're mine)
I'm yours (I'm yours, I'm yours)
You're mine (You're mine, you're mine)

I'm yours, you're mine
I'm yours, you're mine

You're Mine
  • Michele co-wrote this song with the Australian singer-songwriter Sia, who has also co-penned hits for David Guetta ("Titanium"), Flo Rida ("Wild Ones") and Rihanna ("Diamonds").
  • The song features intensely personal lyrics about Michele's relationship with her late boyfriend, Cory Monteith, who died in July 2013 at the age of 31 from a drugs and alcohol overdose. The singer explained that it was the pair's favorite song, and "it's about committing yourself to someone for life."
  • Michele told Elle magazine that it was a late decision to include the track on Louder. "The album was done, and the label said, 'Do you want to add anything?' I was like, 'I might regret it if I don't'," she recalled "It makes me so happy, this song. It makes me think so much of Cory. It was ours. When I think of him, I play this."
  • Michele explained the song's meaning to E! News: "It''s really about making that commitment in a relationship," she said, "about at the beginning being scared to take the leap, but when once you take it, committing yourself to another person and saying, you know, this is it, for life."

    Vapor Trail Lyrics

Stratospheric traces of our transitory flight
    Trails of condensation held
    In narrow paths of white
    The sun is turning black
    The world is turning gray
All the stars fade from the night
    The oceans drain away

    Horizon to horizon
    Memory written on the wind
Fading away, like an hourglass, grain by grain
Swept away like voices in a hurricane

    In a Vapor Trail

Atmospheric phases make the transitory last
Vaporize the memories that freeze the fading past
    Silence all the songbirds
    Stilled by the killing frost
    Forests burn to ashes
    Everything is lost

Washed away like footprints in the rain

    In a vapor trail

  • In Neil Peart's book Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road , he wrote that his brother Danny read the poem Funeral Blues (W. H. Auden) at his daughter Selenas funeral, the poem contains the lines "The stars are not wanted now: put out every one; Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun; Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood, For nothing now can ever come to any good." This inspired the lines in this song "All the stars fade from the night The oceans drain away." (thanks, Mike - Mountlake Terrace, Washington)

Baby Come On With It Lyrics

Been a month long week and a week long day
Feeling like dog on real short chain
Ooh, and if you're good to go, I'm game
    Baby, come on with it

We can head on out to where the kudzu grows
Beeline for the tree line on White Pine Road
Spend the p.m cranking that a.m radio
    Baby, come on with it

    I've been going crazy
    Without you lately

Oh, baby, come on with it
Drink a little drink, sing a little song with it
Show me that wild side down by the fire side
Gimme that shimmy shimmy one more time
Oh, coming on strong with it
I could go all night long with it
Me and you and the dance we do
    Ain't nothing wrong with it
Baby, come on, baby, come on with it

Well, you're making that move in your cowboy boots
Kissing on me while you're sipping on Boone's
Doing that way back, laid back thing you do
    Baby, come on with it

Now, this right here's what I call living
Getting lost in every midnight minute
Just me and you and the coons and the crickets
    Baby, come on with it

    I've been going crazy
    Without you lately

Oh, baby, come on with it
Drink a little drink, sing a little song with it
Show me that wild side down by the fire side
Gimme that shimmy shimmy one more time
Oh, coming on strong with it
I could go all night long with it
Me and you and the dance we do
    Ain't nothing wrong with it
Baby, come on, baby, come on with it

Oh, baby, come on with it
Drink a little drink, sing a little song with it
Show me that wild side down by the fire side
Gimme that shimmy shimmy one more time
Oh, coming on strong with it

    Baby Come On With It
  • The Nashville-based band Natalie Stovall and the Drive is is fronted by Stovall, a fiddle player who started performing at the age of ten and made her debut on the Grand Ole Opry just two years later singing Mary-Chapin Carpenter's "Down At The Twist And Shout." At the age of 16, Stovall landed a spot on Oprah performing her fiddle tricks live on one of the host's 'funniest viewers' shows.
  • This is the debut single from the band, which as well as Stovall, also comprises guitarist Miguel Cancino, bassist Zach Morse, guitarist and vocalist Joel Dormer, and drummer James Bavendam. Stovall recalled in a video how she recruited the group after meeting Bavendam at the Berklee College of Music. "When we met I told him that I was a country singer and he said, 'Oh! I'm a country drummer!'" said the fiddle player. "One night in the dorm room he just said 'Well, why don't you have your own band?' and I thought 'Man, why don't I have my own band?' And so we put a band together and played a whole lot of gigs."

The pair began working on putting together the rest of the band after graduating from Berklee college and moving back to Nashville, using Craigslist and referrals from friends. "We kind of all found that right combination of personalities, and I think that's one of the reasons that this band works so well together," said Stovall.

    Far Behind Lyrics

Now maybe I didn't mean to treat you bad
    But I did it anyway
    And now maybe
Some would say your life was sad
    But you lived it anyway
    And so maybe
Your friends they stand around they watch you crumble
As you fall to the ground
    And someday
Your friends they stand beside as you were flying
Oh you were flying oh so high
But then some day people look at you for what they call their own
    They watch you suffer
Yeah they hear you calling home
But then some day we could take our time
To brush the leaves aside so you can reach us
But you left me Far Behind
Now maybe I didn't mean to treat you oh so bad
    But I did it anyway
Now maybe some would say you're left with what you had
But you couldn't share the pain
    No, no, no
Couldn't share the pain they watch you suffer
Now maybe I could have made my own mistakes
But I live with what I've known
And then maybe we might share in something great
But won't you look at where we've grown
Won't you look at where we've gone
But then someday comes tomorrow holds a sense of what I fear for you
    in my mind
As you trip the final line
And that cold day when you lost control
    Shame you left my life
So soon you should have told me
But you left me far behind
Now maybe I didn't meant to treat you oh so bad
    But I did it anyway
Now maybe some would say you're left with what you had
But you couldn't share the pain
    No, no, no
Now maybe I didn't mean to treat you oh so bad
    But I did it anyway
No maybe some would say you're left with what you had
But you couldn't share the pain
I said times have changed your friends
They come and watch you crumble to the ground
    They watch you suffer
    Yeah they hold you down
    Hold you down
Maybe brother maybe love I didn't mean to treat you bad
But you left me far behind
    Left me far behind
    Left me far behind

    Far Behind
  • This was written about Andrew Wood, lead singer of the Seattle group Mother Love Bone, who died of an heroin-overdose in 1990. Other songs inspired by his death are "Would?" by Alice in Chains, "Hey Mr. Lovedog" by Faster Pussycat, and the whole Temple Of The Dog project. (thanks, Oliver - Siersburg, Germany)
  • Candlebox vocalist Kevin Martin first met Andy Wood when he was working at Seattle's Fluevog shoe store with Susan Silver, who was managing Soundgarden at the time. He recalled to About.com : "Andy used to come in there with band flyers and stuff for shows and concerts. We just got to talking about music ever time he'd pop in. He asked me, 'Are you a singer? What do you do?' I said, 'Well, I'm a singing in this band, doing my thing and whatnot.' He said, 'Man, just do it. There are gonna be haters and people that love you. If you're meant to do it, you're meant to do it. Regardless of what anyone says to you or about you – it's what you're supposed to do.' And I never forgot that.

The day he died was incredibly sad – not only for those who were close to him but for the music community of Seattle – for the people that loved what he was doing: Malfunkshun, Mother Love Bone and all these f---ing amazing bands that he was a part of. And his talent was sad to see let go and initially the lyric was, 'Now Andy, I didn't mean to treat you bad.'

It was written from the perspective of the drug that destroyed him. When I got in the studio to track that song I changed it to 'Now maybe.' I didn't want it to be so obvious. I think that's why for years people thought it was a love song. Nobody really knew that it was about death and the loss of a friend and fellow musician. So that's how the song was written."

    Rip It Up Lyrics

    When I first saw you
    Something stirred within me
You were standing sultry in the rain
    If I could've held you
    I would've held you
Rip It Up and start again

Rip it up and start again
Rip it up and start again
I hope to God you're not as dumb as you make out
    I hope to God
    I hope to God
And I hope to God I'm not as numb as you make out
    I hope to God
    I hope to God

And when I next saw you
My heart reached out for you
But my arms stuck like glue to my sides
    If I could've held you
    I would've held you
But I'd choke rather than swallow my pride
Rip it up and start again

Rip it up and start again
Rip it up and start again
I hope to God you're not as dumb as you make out
    I hope to God
    I hope to God
And I hope to God I'm not as numb as you make out
    I hope to God
    I hope to God

And there was times I'd take my pen
And feel obliged to start again
    I do profess
That there are things in life
    That one can't quite express
You know me I'm acting dumb-dumb
You know this scene is very humdrum
And my favourite song's entitled 'boredom'

Rip it up and start again
I said rip it up and start again
I said rip it up and rip it up and rip it up and rip it up and rip it up and start again

    Rip It Up
  • Formed in 1976 as the Nu-Sonics (named after a cheap brand of guitar), this Glasgow band were galvanized into Orange Juice by impresario Alan Horne at the end of the decade. In the early 1980s they were part of the scene that their original label, Postcard, celebrated as "The Sound of Young Scotland" along with fellow bands Josef K and Aztec Camera.

Orange Juice are best known for this song, which reached #8 on the UK Singles Chart in February 1983, the group's only UK Top 40 hit. Frontman Edwyn Collins went on to experience some solo success, particularly with his 1994 transatlantic hit "A Girl Like You."
  • The song signaled a departure from the sound of the band's earlier post-punk singles, revealing a white-boy funk influence with Chic influenced guitars and a synthesizer. It was the first UK chart hit to feature the Rowland TB – 303 synth, which eventually became synonymous with the Acid House scene.
  • The backing vocals were provided by Paul Quinn, a classmate of Collins between the ages of 11 and 15. Quinn went on to front Bourgie Bourgie, a Scottish band who had a #48 UK hit with "Breaking Point" in 1984. He also collaborated with Edwyn Collins on a version of The Velvet Underground's "Pale Blue Eyes," which reached #72 in the UK the same year.
  • The lyric, "you know the scene and it's very humdrum. And my favorite songs entitled boredom," is a dig at the state of early 1980s Pop, but also a reference to the Buzzcocks, whose debut EP Spiral Scratch was a huge influence on Orange Juice's DIY ethos. A snatch of the guitar riff from the EP's track "Boredom" briefly chimes in after that line.
  • An NME review at the time said of the Rip it Up album: "Orange Juice are a minor group trying hard to be bigger and more significant than a really ought to be." The negative appraisal upset Edwin Collins who recalled in 2013: "When Rip It Up got slagged off by the NME, I would refuse to go on the tour bus because I was depressed! You can laugh about it now, but back then it was life and death."
  • Rip it Up's saxophone parts were provided by British jazz performer Dick Morrisey, who also featured on material by Paul McCartney, Gary Numan, Peter Gabriel and Vangelis. (He played the haunting saxophone solo on the Vangelis composition "Love Theme" for the 1982 film Blade Runner).

    Looking back I clearly see
What it is that's killing me
Through the eyes I want to know
See a vision once let go
    I had it all

    Well constantly it burdens me
How to trust, I can't believe
I lost the faith, I lost the love
But when the day is done

Will they open their eyes, and realize we are one
On and on we stand alone until our day is gone
Will they open their eyes, and realize we are one

I love the way I feel today
And how I know the sun will fade
    Darker days seem to be
What will always live in me
    But still I run

Its hard to walk this path alone
Hard to know which way to go
Will I ever save this day?
    Will they ever change?

Will they open their eyes, and realize we are one
On and on we stand alone until our day is gone
Will they open their eyes, and realize we are one
Still today we carry on, I know our day will come
Will they open their eyes, and realize we are one

Will they open their eyes, and realize we are one
Hard to walk this path alone
Hard to know which way to go

Will they open their eyes, and realize we are one
Lost the faith, Lost the love
But when the day is done

  • This was the first single from Alter Bridge. The group is made up of members of Creed, with the exception of singer Scott Stapp . Brian Marshall returned to Alter Bridge after leaving Creed, while singer Myles Kennedy also joined the group.
  • Like many songs on the album, this is about regrets. The chorus seems to be encouraging peace.

Give It To Me Strait Lyrics

Bartender I may sit here on this bar stool all night long
But I won't need much attention
I just need some time alone
So if you'll give me some quarters and a bottle of your best
You can just sit back and let the jukebox do the rest

    Give It To Me Strait
Sing "Am I Blue" while I sit here and cry
And tell me how my baby's gotten so good at goodbye
It's gonna take a fireman to put this old flame out
So come on give it to me Strait
    Before I come unwound

Let's start off nice and easy
Something like "If I Know Me"
And we'll work our way up slowly to "Fool Hearted Memory"
Yeah I've got all night long to sit right here and fall apart
So don't leave out one single song
I know 'em all by broken heart

    Give it to me Strait
    Sing "Am I Blue"
While I sit here and cry
And tell me how my baby's gotten so good at goodbye
It's gonna take a fireman to put this old flame out
So come on give it to me Strait
    Before I come unwound

    There ain't one country singer
That ain't good for a bad heartache
And for me there's nothing smoother
Than a good stiff shot of Strait

It's gonna take a fireman to put this old flame out
So come on give it to me Strait

  • This song discusses the distinction between real love and lust. Jack White sings about how these feeling are out of our control. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)
  • The video for this is considered one of the most innovative of all time as it was made entirely out of Legos. Directed by Michel Gondry using no digital effects, it won 3 MTV video music awards.
  • The White Stripes couldn't strike a deal with Lego, so they had to buy many boxes of Legos for the video.
  • British Soul singer Joss Stone covered this for her debut album, renaming it "Fell In Love With A Boy." (thanks, Tom - Trowbridge, England, for above 2)
  • Joss Stone said in the April 2007 Q Magazine that Jack White liked her cover, "He told me he loved it and that when he plays it live, he plays my version rather than his own! How's that for approval! Cool bloke, Jack White!" (thanks, Edward Pearce - Ashford, Kent, England)
  • The part of the song that Jack and Meg White sing along to is identical to the opening notes of the guitar solo in Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "Mary Jane's Last Dance." (thanks, Adrian - Gettysburg, PA)
  • A re-recorded version of this song was used on the "Grab Some Air" advert for the United States Air Force Reserve, which was aired during the 2010 Super Bowl. The White Stripes duo saw red over the alleged unauthorized borrowing of their tune and posted a message on their Web site that read, "We believe our song was re-recorded and used without permission of the White Stripes, our publishers, label or management. The White Stripes take strong insult and objection to the Air Force Reserve's presenting this advertisement with the implication that we licensed one of our songs to encourage recruitment during a war that we do not support."
The musician who wrote the music for the Air Force Reserve commercial, Kem Kraft, told The New York Times that the similarity is entirely unintentional. He said: "I'm sorry it sounds the same. It wasn't my intention, truly, truly, truly. [If they] want to call me and talk to me, as far as I'm concerned, I'm responsible for this. Just me. I'm pretty much a one-man band here. You gonna get this information through

    I don't know where I'm going
    I don't know what I need
But I'll get to where I'm gonna end up
    And that's alright by me

I've been running from side to side
Now I know for sure that both sides lied
It's got so hard but we gotta keep trying
I can't stand to see my people crying

    I don't know where I'm going

I'm gonna get to where I'm gonna end up

    Let's See Action
  • This was originally written by Pete Townshend for his aborted Lifehouse project, which was intended to be a Rock Opera similar to The Who's Tommy and Quadrophenia. Many of the songs Townshend wrote for Lifehouse ended up on the 1971 Who's Next album. "Let's See Action" was recorded for the album, but didn't make the cut. Instead, it was released as a single in the fall of 1971 in the UK peaking at #16. In the US it remained unreleased until its inclusion on the Hooligans compilation album in 1981.
  • Roger Daltrey recalled to Uncut magazine October 2001: "Pete was going through a terrible bitterness about the fact that Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp hadn't got behind making Lifehouse as a film. But the reason they didn't get behind it was because they couldn't get to grips with the narrative, and I still feel to this day – even though Pete's done his Lifehouse Chronicles box and done it as a radio play – well, I'm sorry but though there's some incredible music in there and some sparks of theoretical and theological ideas, I think the narrative thread of the story is about as exciting as a f---ing whelk race! But I always liked 'Let's See Action.' It's got that texture of explosive rock'n'roll bits mixed in with a laid-back, almost country feel. I still love the sentiment behind it, too."

    Spoiled Lyrics

I kinda thought that I'd be better off by myself
I've never been so wrong before
You made it impossible for me to ever
    Love somebody else
And now I don't know what I left you for

See I thought that I could replace you
He can't love me the way you do
    'Till now I never knew
    Baby

    [Chorus:]
    I'm Spoiled
    By your love boy
No matter how I try to change my mind
What's the point it's just a waste of time
I'm spoiled by your touch boy
The love you give is just too hard to fight
Don't want to live without you in my life
    I'm spoiled

I tried to tell myself that I'd be over you in a week or two
But baby that was 'bout a year ago
I've never seen the word love so personified as I do with you
And that is why I just can't let go, oh no

    [Chorus]

    Spoil me

And I would only be fooling myself if I tried to
Believe there's room for someone else in my heart
There ain't no way I'm getting over you
I don't know what I've been trying to prove
I'm hopeless, helpless when it comes to you

    [Chorus]

    I've been spoiled yeah yeah

  • Joss states in YM magazine: "It's about a guy who loves you so much that he's ruined you for anyone else." (thanks, Tiffany - st. joseph, MO)
  • The music video, directed by Joseph Kahn, was shot at West Taghkanic Diner in West Taghkanic, New York. It follows Stone and her boyfriend, played by model James Guardino, on an evening out that seemingly ends with a car crash until the clip starts rewinding to the opening scene.

Kahn also killed off the guys from Korn with a fatal car accident in the music video for "A.D.I.D.A.S."

    Wasp Man
  • This Keith Moon penned song was the B- side to the band's single "Relay." The origins of the track lay in a late-1960s incident aboard a plane flight. Roger Daltrey recalled to Uncut magazine October 2001: "It all happened on a flight from Copenhagen back to London. We hit some bad weather and, my god, I've been in some planes that have done some things in my time but this f---ing plane was like a rollercoaster ride, it almost flipped over."

"We'd got through this weather and it all sort of leveled out and everybody was puking and sitting in almost total silence," Daltrey continued. "Now, meantime, Moon's disappeared. He was sat with this groupie bird who had this tiger-skin coat which he's taken, and her bra. Needless to say this girl had very large mammaries. So he disappears up the back of the plane to the bog. Everybody's still puking and the captain's come out and he's standing there apologising, saying it's the worst weather he'd ever been through."

"Then from the back suddenly there came this 'bzzzzzzzzz!' We looked round and it was Moon stood with the two bits of her bra over his eyes like big fly eyeballs and he's got her tiger-skin coat tied round his neck like a cape," Daltrey added. "And he shouted, 'Don't worry, folks – Waspman's here to save you!' And he did this thing up and down the plane buzzing away as Waspman, kissing all the women and just f---ing around in general. By the end of it everybody was just rolling about laughing. He'd taken the edge off that hairy situation and cheered everyone up."

"So that's how 'Waspman' was created," he concluded. "We'd already done 'Batman' a few years before so we said, 'OK, we'd better write a theme for Waspman!'"

    A Saucerful Of Secrets Lyrics

    A Saucerful Of Secrets
  • Roger Waters described this as being about war or a battle. (where Something Else and Syncopated Pandemonium are the actual battle, Storm Signals the aftermath and Celestial Voices the mourning of the dead).
  • On some pressings of Ummagumma this was broken down into 4 sections. These sections are called:
    a. "Something Else" - 00:00 (ominous opening noises)
    b. "Syncopated Pandemonium" - 03:57 (with the drum tape-loop and such)
    c. "Storm Signal" - 07:16 (organ-based section)
    d. "Celestial Voices" - 10:14 (closing spacey part with the voices) (thanks, Phil - Liverpool, England, for above 2)
  • Dave Gilmour in Guitar World February 1993: "'A Saucerful of Secrets' was a very important track; it gave us our direction forward. If you take 'A Saucerful of Secrets,' 'Atom Heart Mother' and 'Echoes' - all lead logically to Dark Side of the Moon. 'A Saucerful' was inspired when Roger and Nick [Mason, Pink Floyd's drummer] began drawing weird shapes on a piece of paper. We then composed music based on the structure of the drawing."
  • Guitar World asked Gilmour about the techniques he used to get such unusual guitar tones back then. He replied: "Well, on the middle section of 'A Saucerful of Secrets,' most of the time the guitar was lying on the studio floor. And I unscrewed one of the legs from a mic stand... You know how mic stands have three steel legs about a foot long? I just whizzed one of those up and down the neck - not very subtly. Another technique, which came a bit later, is to take a small piece of steel and rub it from side to side across the strings. You just move it and stop it in places that sound good. It's something like an E-bow."
