I'd Love To Change The World Lyrics

Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity
Tax the rich, feed the poor
Till there are no rich no more?

I'd Love To Change The World
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, Monopoly

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

  • The group was formed in 1965. They took their name because it was 10 years after what they considered the birth of Rock And Roll.
  • This was used in the trailer for Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11. Matt Stone and Trey Parker then used it in the trailer for Team America World Police to lampoon the "Fahrenheit" preview. (thanks, Chris - Philadelphia, PA)

Austin man keep doin yo thing
Let these boys keep slippin' man
I'm not into gymnastics but I'm into flippin' things

I told these women that it's all about the team, Jordan and Pippen man
So if you wanna join the team
Now tell me up in this thing, dale!

    When I saw her
    Walking down the street
    She looked so fine
    I just had to speak

    I asked her name
    But she turned away
    As she walked
All that I could say was

    Mmm Mmm Yeah yeah
    Mmm mmm yeah yeah
    Mmm mmm yeah yeah
All that I could say was

    Mmm mmm yeah yeah
    Mmm mmm yeah yeah
    Mmm mmm yeah yeah
All that I could say was

Rollin' up one time, we'll make it up as we go
I know you feel it 'cause I mean what I said said said said
We can do whatever, do whatever we want
If she walk past me I say hehe he he he (he he)

So tell me where you're from, where you wanna go
But she walked past me like ain't said a word
    Stood there like man
Girl I don't usually feel some type of way
But this one hear me out it's some kind of place, God!

    When I saw her
    Walking down the street
    She looked so fine

You can that back from the front front
Move it like criss cross, jump jump
Meet me in the middle of the ocean

    Mmm Yeah
  • Austin's lead single from his The Secret album features rapper Pitbull, and received its radio debut during Elvis Duran's January 24, 2013 morning show.
  • Austin performed the song live for the first time at Pepsi's #PEPCITY Super Bowl XLVIII kick-off party in New York City on January 29, 2013 and then two days later on Good Morning America.
  • The song featured in an Aquafina FlavorSplash commercial starring Austin that premiered during the Grammy Awards telecast on January 26, 2014.
  • The chorus samples Chicago house music artist Lidell Townsell's 1992 single "Nu Nu," which reached #26 on the Hot 100.
  • The song's music video finds Austin and Pitbull moving through an enclosed room accompanied by some females. The clip is a homage to Jamiroquai's 1996 visual for "Virtual Insanity."

"We kind of had that idea and were kind of like, man, we could take a little spin-off of that and make it our own kind of version," Austin told Fuse TV. "We basically built a room and the room kept moving around. I ran into the wall a couple of times."

Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands Lyrics

With your mercury mouth in the missionary times,
And your eyes like smoke and your prayers like rhymes,
And your silver cross, and your voice like chimes,
Oh, do they think could bury you?
With your pockets well protected at last,
And your streetcar visions which you place on the grass,
And your flesh like silk, and your face like glass,
Who could they get to carry you?

    Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I put them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?

With your sheets like metal and your belt like lace,
And your deck of cards missing the jack and the ace,
And your basement clothes and your hollow face,
Who among them can think he could outguess you?
With your silhouette when the sunlight dims
Into your eyes where the moonlight swims,
And your match-book songs and your gypsy hymns,
Who among them would try to impress you?

    Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I put them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?

The kings of Tyrus with their convict list
Are waiting in line for their geranium kiss,
And you wouldn't know it would happen like this,
But who among them really wants just to kiss you?
With your childhood flames on your midnight rug,
And your Spanish manners and your mother's drugs,
And your cowboy mouth and your curfew plugs,
Who among them do you think could resist you?

    Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I leave them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?

Oh, the farmers and the businessmen, they all did decide
To show you the dead angels that they used to hide.
But why did they pick you to sympathize with their side?
Oh, how could they ever mistake you?
They wished you'd accepted the blame for the farm,
But with the sea at your feet and the phony false alarm,
And with the child of a hoodlum wrapped up in your arms,
How could they ever, ever persuade you?

    Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I leave them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?

With your sheet-metal memory of Cannery Row,
And your magazine-husband who one day just had to go,
And your gentleness now, which you just can't help but show,
Who among them do you think would employ you?
Now you stand with your thief, you're on his parole
With your holy medallion which your fingertips fold,
And your saintlike face and your ghostlike soul,
Oh, who among them do you think could destroy you?

    Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I leave them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?

Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands
  • This song is about Sara Lownds, who was Dylan's wife at the time. The title of the song was created from her name: SAd eyed lAdy of the LOWlaNDS.
  • On the song "Sara" from the album Desire, Dylan sings: "Staying up for nights in the Chelsea Hotel writing Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands for you." In his book Revolution in the Air: The Songs of Bob Dylan 1957-1973, Clinton Heylin writes that most of the song was written in an 8-hour stretch in a Nashville studio while the musicians waited for Dylan to finish it. Said Dylan: "It started out as just a little thing, but I got carried away somewhere along the line."
  • This took up the whole fourth side of the album, but it didn't need to as it is just under 11-minutes long. But if Blonde On Blonde had not been a double album, some other album would hold the title of first double album ever released. (thanks, Ed - Perth, Australia, for above 2)
  • When Dylan finally called the band members he hired in to record this song, it was 4 a.m. Typical of Dylan, he didn't tell them much about the song - he just had them play. They were surprised when the song kept going for 11 minutes, and more surprised when Dylan was happy with the first take.
  • The video to the right is from "The Denver Tapes," recorded March 1966. In this recording, Dylan calls this "The best song I ever wrote." (Thanks, Edna - Madrid, Spain)

    I just can't believe
    Where my life was at
All that I know is that my heart was broken
And I don't ever wanna go back

    Ain't no explanation
    How I saw the light
He found me and set me free
And it brought me back to life

    Blame it on the transformation
    Changed down to the core
    His love is real
    And I can't sit still
Cause my name's not shamed no more

Great God Almighty, gonna change this
Great God Almighty, He gonna change me

    You gotta Shake, shake, shake
    Like you're changed, changed, changed
Brand new looks so good on you
So shake like you've been changed

Come on and shake, shake, shake like you changed
Shake, shake, shake like you changed

    Maybe He came to you
    When everything seemed fine
Or maybe your world was upside down
And hit you right between the eyes
    No matter when it happened
    At 7 or 95
Move your feet 'cause you are free
And you've never been more alive

    You gotta shake, shake, shake
    Like you're changed, changed, changed
Brand new looks so good on you
So shake like you've been changed

Come on and shake, shake, shake

  • The first single from MercyMe's Welcome To the New album finds MercyMe frontman Bart Millard encouraging Christians to rejoice in their salvation and new life in Christ. He said: "This is about enjoying the fact that we're changed. It's about having the joy and living life that way – Christians are supposed to have joy."
  • Millard explained the song's meaning in a video interview: "I know its a little bit of a departure from what we normally do, but we're just having a good time," he said. "The idea was, that we understand who we are in Christ, we understand our identity, and it would be hard to sit still. So we thought that was a great song to kick off the whole record."

    Blackened
  • This is about the end of the world as written in The Bible. It also deals with pollution, deforestation and other social problems. (thanks, Ryan - Ireland)
  • The Intro was recorded by reversing the guitars and using several overdubs. (thanks, JT - Tullahoma, TN)
  • This is one of three Metallica songs (along with "My Friend Of Misery" and "Where the Wild Things Are") that was co-written by Jason Newsted, who was their bass player from 1986-2001. ...And Justice for All was the first studio album he played on with the band, and "Blackened" was the first track he helped write.

Composing the song with James Hetfield was a special moment for Newsted, as he was still a bit starstruck and thrilled to find himself kicking around ideas with the Metallica frontman. In our interview with Jason Newsted , he told the story:

We were in my one-bedroom apartment. I had my little four-track Tascam set up in the corner of the bedroom, and we were jamming on our guitars, just playing through some riffs. I played that "Blackened" riff, and he goes, "Dude, what is that?" Because it was really pretty crazy. The original thing is a very fast alternating thing. Man, it's pretty tricky, actually. I mean, the one that ended up on the record is pretty tricky, too, but the original one is really tricky.

He picked up on that and we recorded that bit. And he goes, "Let's build it to this, and build it to this." It was a moment. I was actually composing a song with James from Metallica and he was approving my riffs and saying, "This is going to be a Metallica song." That was a big, big moment for me. We had already been on tour together, and so I had a giant Damage Inc. tour poster on my bedroom wall right above my little station where I had my speakers and my little four-track and the two or three guitars in my collection.

And there we were, I could paint that picture for you very plainly. It was a very, very big moment for me, because I was getting approved from The Man to have my first chance on having one of my compositions on a Metallica record. So that was a very special time.

  • This is a cut from Periphery's experimental EP, Clear, on which each band member composed a track. This was the tune penned by guitarist and programmer Jake Bowen and he told Artist Direct the story of the song. "I had a bunch of riffs when we were touring on Summer Slaughter 2012," he said. "There was a little Roland Micro Cube. They had it on the bus. I picked up the guitar, and I was jamming on the same tempo and feel. I came up with a lot of riffs for that song then. I decided that would be my track for the EP when we went in to record it. It's really just a collection of riffs from that tour that I held on to and I felt really represented my style. It's also got an upbeat and positive vibe to it whereas everybody else's is pretty dark and pissed-off sounding."

Would you like to say something before you leave
Perhaps you'd care to state exactly how you feel
We said good-bye before we said hello
I hardly even like you, I shouldn't care at all
We met just six hours ago, the music was too loud
From your bed I gained a day and lost a bloody year
And I would like to know
How do you feel, how do you feel, how do you feel?

Not a single word was said, delights still without fears
Occasionally you showed a smile but what was the need
I felt the cold far too soon - the wind of '95
My friends are lying in the sun, I wish that I was there
Tomorrow brings another town and another girl like you
Have you time before you leave to greet another man
    Just you let me know
How do you feel, how do you feel, how do you feel?

    Good-bye to you

    The days
Are ghosts that pass right through us
    In my eyes
    You’re like an evergreen
    Untouched
By the hours that fly around us
    My love
Is that how you see me?

    Remember when
Remember when we were the diamonds in the coal
    Lovers know
There’s no age upon your soul

It’s all okay, you give me Young Blood
It’s coursing through my veins, it’s real love
Here inside my heart it’s crystallised
Like it’s framed in time and never tainted

Yeah, it’s alright, you give me young blood
Before the world I may be old enough
There’ll be a day to take the best of us
But till then we have young blood

    Somehow
    I never saw it coming
    I’m caught
And it has set me free

    Remember when
Remember when we used to talk of growing old
    Lovers know
There’s no age upon your soul

Yeah, it’s okay, you give me young blood
It’s coursing through my veins, it’s real love
Here inside my heart it’s crystallised

Yeah, it’s alright, you give me young blood
Before the world I may be old enough
There’ll be a day to take the best of us
But till then we have young blood

    Oh

On and on you give me young blood
It’s coursing through my veins, it’s real love
And here inside my heart it’s crystallised

  • The first single from Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Wanderlust album was released as a free gift for fans in April 2013, before being officially released on November 21, 2013. The song is a life-affirming testament to true love, accompanied by singer-songwriter Ed Harcourt's piano.
  • Wanderlust was recorded in a London studio over a fortnight with a group of musicians and friends.
"The album is about roaming and your sense of where you come from, and how you take home with you but you also have this desire to get out there and see the world," said Ellis-Bextor. "I found making this album really empowering. I felt like after ten years of making records, this is like the biggest present to myself."
  • The album was co-written, produced and arranged by Ed Harcourt. "He's a family friend," Ellis-Bextor told The Sunday Telegraph. "I've known him for quite a while. And quite early on, we were going for this Eastern sound, quite theatrical, even folky in places. No suggestion, from Bulgarian choirs on up, was too bonkers to be considered."
  • Noted music video director Sophie Muller (Annie Lennox, No Doubt, Beyonce) shot the clip of Ellis-Bextor singing on a pier.

    Make up your mind
    Decide to walk with me
    Around the lake tonight
    Around the lake tonight
    By my side
    By my side
    I'm not gonna lie
    I'll not be a gentleman
    Behind the boathouse
I'll show you my dark secret
    I'm not gonna lie
    I want you for mine
    My blushing bride
My lover, be my lover, yeah

    Don't be afraid
I didn't mean to scare you
    So help me, Jesus
    I can promise you
    You'll stay as beautiful
    With dark hair
    And soft skin, forever
    Forever

    Make up your mind
    Make up your mind
    And I'll promise you
    I will treat you well
    My sweet angel
    So help me, Jesus
    (hey, hey, hey)
    Give it up to me
    Give it up to me
    Do you wanna be
    My angel?

    So help me!
    Be my angel
    Be my angel
    Do you wanna die?

    Possum Kingdom
  • Possum Kingdom is a lake in Texas, near the Dallas/Ft. Worth area where the band is from - it even has its own Chamber of Commerce .

There are no mentions of possums or kingdoms in the lyrics, but we do hear a creepy story about a spooky walk around a lake.

In a 1995 interview with RIP magazine, Toadies lead singer Todd Lewis, who wrote the song, said: "It's just a story I heard long ago; it's just a really cool, eerie lake, and some stuff I heard and some stuff I just make up. I tend to do that. They dammed up this big river up there, and it's got all these spooky names like Hell's Gate. It's really cool."

Lewis went on to say that there was a real stalker in Tyler, Texas who became a folk hero: "I was down there for Thanksgiving, and after the family got through talking about who died and who's got cancer and all those things that families talk about, they started talking about this guy who was peeping in windows and started breaking into people's houses. He'd go out of his way to be seen, and everyone is like armed to the teeth, and he's like tapping on windows. The whole family was freaked out about it."
  • This is a very dark song with many possible interpretations. Here are a few:

It's about a serial killer who lures girls away by being really smooth.

It's about love or sex near the actual lake in Texas.

    It's about a vampire.

It's about the devil. (thanks, Michelina - New York, NY)
  • Toadies had the briefest possible stay on the US Top-40, nicking the chart at #40 with this song the week of November 18, 1995. The song made it thanks to airplay, which Billboard factored into the charts starting in 1991.

Toadies, and this song in particular, benefited from the boom in the "Modern Rock" or "Alternative" radio formats, which gave a good home to acts like Belly, Letters To Cleo and Blind Melon. Toadies toured with Bush for nearly a year to promote the Rubberneck album, which was their first major label release (Interscope/Atlantic). They made a second album, called Feeler, but it was rejected by the record company. Bass player Lisa Umbarger left the group, and they broke up soon after, orphaning their mid-'90s success. Toadies came back together in the '00s and released the album No Deliverance in 2008, which they followed with a new version of the previously shelved Feeler in 2010.
  • This was a surprisingly popular song with dancers at strip clubs, and there were even some local news reports in Texas about strippers using the song in their routines.
  • This song was used in the XBox 360 version of Guitar Hero 2, under the "Opening Licks" section. It is available from the start. (thanks, Matt - Labrador City, Canada)

    The Greatest Gift Lyrics

    The Greatest Gift
  • Seattle singer Michael "Wanz" Wansley was a full-time software test engineer for companies such as Microsoft, Adapx, and Volt until he was asked to provide guest vocals on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' international hit single "Thrift Shop." This is the closing track from Wanz's debut solo EP, Wander.
  • Wanz told Artist Direct the story behind the song in an January 2014 interview: "'The Greatest Gift,' was written and recorded in two days last year," he recalled. "Success with 'Thrift Shop' hadn't hit monetarily and touring monies kept me afloat, but there was no extra to buy Christmas gifts."

" I would watch commercial after commercial of folks buying things, see them in line at the stores and listen to their conversations about what to give someone...feeling 'less than' during the whole process," he continued. "But figured that if I could put the 'Christmas Spirit' into song, that would be a great gift."

"It took about an hour for me to come up with chords and a melody," Wanz added. "When I started putting the beat together is when I realized I was creating my own present. One that I could give to everyone and anyone! The time I was putting into this song was my gift!!! And since time is the only thing none of us can replace, I wanted to convey that we all do the best we can with the time we have and that helping someone, listening to someone, being there for someone is the greatest feeling and the greatest gift we can give to each other. Hence the title, 'The Greatest Gift.'"

I Guess I'll Miss the Man Lyrics

I Guess I'll Miss the Man
I guess I'll miss the man
    Explain it, if you can
His face was far from fine
But still I'll miss his face
And wonder if he's missing mine

    He never smiled enough
But though his words were gruff
I liked his shy, sad glance
    I never told him so
But then, I never got the chance

    Some men are heroes
    Some men outshine the sun
Some men are simple, good men
    This man wasn't one

    This man
    Wasn't one

And I won't miss his moods
    His gloomy solitudes
    His blunt and thoughtless style
But please, don't get me wrong
He was the best to come along
    In a long, long while

  • Warpaint bassist Jenny Lee Lindberg wrote this song when she realized she was falling for her husband, British video director Chris Cunningham (Bjork's "All Is Full Of Love," Madonna's "Frozen").
  • Cunningham spent much of Warpaint's two-year genesis documenting the band at work as well as creating the album's cover art.
