Proudest Monkey Lyrics

Proudest Monkey
  • The lyrics are a timeline of Matthew's rise to fame, which is the subject of many of the songs of Crash. The song begins as a "humble" tune and gradually develops into a strutting, "proud" song.
  • Dave sugggested at a 2006 concert in Saratoga, NY, that this song is about the human population destroying the world, and one monkey surviving and starting everything over again.

    Go Away Little Girl Lyrics

Won't you go away (little girl)
Wish you wouldn't stay (little girl)
Won't you go away (little girl)
    Wooo ooo go away.

    Go Away Little Girl
    Go away little girl
I'm not supposed to be alone with you
Oh yes I know that your lips are sweet
But our lips must never meet
I belong to somebody else and I must be true.

    Please go away little girl
    Go away little girl
It's hurting me more each minute that you delay
When you are near me like this
You're much too hard to resist
So go away little girl before I beg you to stay.

Won't you go away (little girl)
Wish you wouldn't stay (little girl)
Won't you go away (little girl)
    Wooo ooo go away.

    Go away little girl
    Go away little girl
It's hurting me more each minute that you delay
When you are near me like this
You're much too hard to resist
    So go away little girl
Call it a day little girl
Please go away little girl before I beg you to stay.

Won't you go away (little girl)
Wish you wouldn't stay (little girl)
Won't you go away (little girl)
    Please go away.

    Go Away Little Girl
  • The second solo single to be released by Donny Osmond, this was a cover of Steve Lawrence's 1962 chart-topper "Go Away Little Girl." When Donny's own version also reached the summit of the Hot 100, it became the first song of the Rock era to be taken to the top of the charts by two different artists. The second song to accomplish this feat was "The Loco-Motion" by Little Eva (1962), then Grand Funk (1974). The husband-and-wife songwriting team of Gerry Goffin and Carole King penned both tunes.

Girl, I can't let you do this
    Let you walk away
Girl, how can I live through this
When you're all I wake up for each day?

Baby, you're my soul and my heart's inspiration
You're all I've got to get me by
You're my soul and my heart's inspiration
Without you baby, what good am I?

    I never had much goin'
But at least I had you
How can you walk out knowin'
I ain't got nothin' left if you do?

Baby, you're my soul and my heart's inspiration
You're all I've got to get me by
You're my soul and my heart's inspiration
Without you baby, what good am I, oh what good am I?

Baby, I can't make it withoutcha.
    And I'm, I'm tellin' ya, honey-you're my
reason for laughin', for cryin', for livin', and for dyin'.

Baby, I can't make it without you
    Please, I'm begging you baby
If you go it will kill me
I swear it, Dear, my love can't bear it

You're my soul and my heart's inspiration
You're all I've got to get me by

    (You're My) Soul And Inspiration
  • With soaring vocals and a symphonic arrangement, this song bears a strong resemblance to the Righteous Brothers' breakout hit, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'." That song was written by the Brill Building songwriting duo of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, and produced by Phil Spector. When it became a #1 hit in 1965, Spector asked Mann and Weil to write another one, and they came up with "Soul And Inspiration." They saw it as a carbon copy of "Lovin' Feelin'," however, and didn't deliver it to Spector.

By 1966, The Righteous Brothers had signed a $1 million deal with MGM Records and needed a hit to please their new corporate overlords. Medley remembered the tune Mann and Weil had scrapped, and asked them to revive it. They reluctantly delivered the song to Medley, who produced it himself, using many of Spector's techniques.

Released as their first single for MGM, "(You're My) Soul And Inspiration" returned the duo to the top of the Hot 100, where it stayed for three weeks.
  • The song's co-writer Cynthia Weil said of this song: "It will always be Lovin' Feelin' sideways to me."

The listening public seems to agree: While the song remains a Righteous Brothers favorite, it never had a popular resurgence like "Lovin' Feelin'" or "Unchained Melody," and is rarely heard in movies, TV shows or commercials.

    Papi Pacify
  • An R&B musician and dancer of Jamaican and Spanish descent, Tahliah Barnett moved from her childhood home in rural Gloucestershire, to London where she became known as Twigs (for the way her bones crack). The acronym FKA was later affixed at the request of another artist called Twigs. The young singer paid her dues as a back-up dancer in Jessie J's video for "Do It Like A Dude," and also appeared in a BBC comedy sketch called Beyoncé Wants Groceries, in which she can be seen dancing in a supermarket.
  • This smoldering track was the lead single from Twigs' critically acclaimed EP2, which was released on indie label Young Turks (The xx, Jack Penate) on September 10 2013. The moody and intimate cut features production from Yeezus collaborator Arca.
  • The song's music video was directed by FKA Twigs and Tom Beard. She told NME regarding its concept: "It's important to run with your first instinct. The video is meant to be a physical manifestation of emotional turmoil with a lover."

    Pink Moon Lyrics

    Pink Moon
  • The cryptic 2-minute title track of Nick Drake's third album, he got the name of this song from the Dictionary Of Folklore. It represents the blood-red color of the moon during eclipses.
  • Drake never had anything resembling a hit in America, but "Pink Moon" has become his most popular song in that country. This is due in no small part to its use in a 1999 commercial for the Volkswagen Cabriolet convertible, which show four young people driving under the moonlight. When they reach their destination - a party - they tacitly agree to keep driving. The ad, which was created by the agency Arnold Worldwide, sparked a resurgence of interest in the song and in Nick Drake.

The commercial was titled "Milky Way," and this song was not the first choice - "Under the Milky Way" by The Church was what they originally had in mind.
  • This song contains just Drake's voice, piano and acoustic guitar. These three elements are all that is heard on the entire album, as there were no outside musicians involved. In fact, the only man who seemed to know that Drake was even making an album was his producer/engineer John Wood, who recorded it.

Even then, Drake was being called "the great silent enigma of our time." His record company, Island, claimed that they had lost track of him, and only knew about the album when Drake walked into the office and delivered it.

Pink Moon would be Drake's last album; two years later he died after overdosing on antidepressant drugs in what was possibly a suicide. The singer was battling depression when he made this music, which is both melancholy and wondrous, providing an insight into his state of mind.

Where Did My Baby Go Lyrics

I happened to notice a girl in a light shade of blue
I happened to see her, the sight of her leaves me confused
    She may not be you
But she looks just like you

You should've seen the way she wore her dress
    And her white stiletto shoes
You should've seen the way they looked on her
Just like the ones that I bought you
I searched for days on end to no avail
‘Til I found them in Peru
She must've been to Lima just as well
    Because she had them too
You should've seen her eyes, her lips, her face
She looked as sweet as honeydew
You should've seen the way she walked away
Oh, she swayed her hips like you
I was only several steps from her
    But she never noticed me
I took another sip of fine liqueur
It was quite a sight to see

I happened to notice a girl in a light shade of blue
I happened to see her, the sight of her leaves me confused
    She may not be you
But she looks just like you

You should've seen the way he stroked her hair
And the smile that lit her face
You should've seen the way he kissed her lips
Did it have the same sweet taste?
Though my mid, it might be running wild
    In constant search of you
It's funny how my eyes keep seeing things my heart
    Would not believe are true

I happened to notice a man in a dark shade of blue
Who happened to be with a woman who leaves me confused
    She may not be you
But she looks just like you

    Where Did My Baby Go
  • Several critics have commented that this song sounds like something written by Burt Bacharach. However, Legend told Performing Songwriting magazine that any similarities were accidental. "I'm not really a student of his work," he said. "He was a prolific songwriter, and there are songs of his that I didn't even know I knew, like songs sung by Luther Vandross and Aretha Franklin. But I don't own any of his albums. It just so happened that I end up sounding like him."

"You listen to music and use it to try to create something new, and who knows what's going to come into your head," Legend continued."A song is a song. You produce a song, and at that moment when you produce it, that's when you take it into a genre. Before you produce it, it's just a song, and it could be any style depending on how you decide to mix it and arrange it. To me, when you evaluate songwriting, you don't do it on a genre basis. You ask, 'Is this a good song?'"

She Works Hard For The Money Lyrics

She Works Hard For The Money
    So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right

She works hard for the money
    So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right

I met her there in the corner stand
And she wonders where she is and
    It's strange to her
Some people seem to have everything

Nine a.m. on the hour hand
And she's waiting for the bell
    And she's looking real pretty
    Just waiting for her clientele

She works hard for the money
    So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right

She works hard for the money
    So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right

Twenty-eight years have come and gone
And she's seen a lot of tears
Of the ones who come in
They really seem to need her there

It's a sacrifice working day to day
For little money, just tips for pay
    But it's worth it all
To hear them say that they care

She works hard for the money
    So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right

    Already knows
    She's seen her bad times
    Already knows
    These are the good times

    She'll never sell out
    She never will
    Not for a dollar bill
    She works hard

She works hard for the money
    So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right

    Hard for the money
    So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right
    (Alright)

She works hard for the money
(Hard, hard, hard for the money)
    So hard for it, honey
(Hard, hard, hard for it, honey)
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right

She works hard for the money
(Hard, hard, hard for the money)
    So hard for it, honey
(Hard, hard, hard for it, honey)

She Works Hard For The Money
  • This song was based on a true-to-life experience. Donna Summer was in Chasens restaurant in Los Angeles. She went to the bathroom and saw the attendant taking a nap with a small TV on. Donna startled the woman from her nap, and the woman told Donna she worked two jobs and was really tired. Donna thought to herself, "Wow, she really works hard for her money." Later that night while at home thinking about her, Summer wrote the song in about 20 minutes.
  • The bathroom attendant from Chasens was placed on the back of the album cover. The first line of the song says her name - "Onetta there in the corner stands..."
  • Summer wrote this with Michael Omartian, who also produced the album and played many of the instruments. Omartian also co-wrote "Sailing" with Christopher Cross and produced "We Are The World" with Quincy Jones.
  • The music video was directed by Brian Grant, who was one of the first directors in the medium, having done clips for Queen and The Human League the predated MTV. The video for "She Works Hard For The Money" shows various women working difficult jobs - nurse, housekeeper, waitress - and then joining together in the end for a group dance. According to Summer, this was to show that they have overcome their challenges and succeeded.

The video was very popular on MTV, airing a few months after Michael Jackson broke the MTV color barrier with "Billie Jean." Summer became the first black female singer to land a video in hot rotation on the network.

    We are a rock revolving
    Around a golden sun
We are a billion children rolled into one
So when I hear about the hole in the sky
    Saltwater wells in my eyes

    We climb the highest mountain
    We'll make the desert bloom
We're so ingenious we can walk the moon
But when I hear of how the forest have died
    Saltwater wells in my eyes

    I have lived for love
    But now that's not enough
For the world I love is dying And now I'm crying
And time is not a friend (no friend of mine)
As friends we're out of time
And it's slowly passing by ....right before our eyes
    We light the deepest ocean
    Send photographs of Mars
We're so enchanted my how clever we are
Why should one baby feel so hungry she cries
    Saltwater wells in my eyes

    I have lived for love
    But now that's not enough
For the world I love is dying And now I'm crying
And time is not a friend (no friend of mine)

  • Long before the global warming debate, Julian Lennon released this song about the destruction of the environment and how we as a people needed to do our part to protect it. Lennon would pursue this agenda, forming the The White Feather Foundation to take on environmental issues and help in the distribution of clean water.
  • Lennon wrote this song with Mark Spiro, who would later co-write tracks for Bad English ("Straight To Your Heart"), Giant ("I'll See You In My Dreams"), and John Waite ("How Did I Get By Without You?"). Leslie Spiro (possibly Mark's wife) is also credited on the track - her only composer credit we could find.
  • George Harrison was supposed to help Julian on the slide guitar for the song, but wasn't able to make it because he had to attend to Eric Clapton's son's funeral. Instead, George sent Julian the samples.
  • Atlantic records did very little to promote the album in the US, and it never charted there, but in other parts of the world, this was a huge hit.
  • Julian recorded a Spanish version with the title "Creo Que Voy A Llorar," which means, "I believe/know that I am going to cry."

Haven’t seen you before, try to feel you out
Die hard, disregard, coming out your mouth

My Chemical Romance - Helena Lyrics and Youtube Music Videos

Album: Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge
    Released: 2004

    Helena Lyrics

    Helena
  • This song is partially about the death of lead singer Gerard Way's grandmother, Elena Lee Rush. She taught Gerard how to draw, paint and sing, and she gave him his first car - the white van that appears in the original "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" video. The song is dedicated to her, as is the CD. She is mainly who the part "Can you hear me? Are you near me?" is for. But this song also starts the concept of the CD. A man and a woman (Helena) die in a car crash ("When both our cars collide"), except the woman doesn't really die, the man only thinks she has. The man is sent to Hell. This song is a mourning for Helena's "death" by the man. He is wishing he could see her again and is giving his last goodbyes ("So long and goodnight").
  • Throughout the Warped Tour 2005, Gerard introduced this song as the most important song to himself and his band.
  • In an interview with the Florida Sun-Sentinel, Way explained that Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge is a combination evil, devil-vampire story and sweet tribute to Grandma. The whole CD was to be about revenge and this guy coming back from hell to be reunited with his love, then Elena, Way's grandmother died, and they decided to add in tributes to her because he loved her dearly and she was the one who taught him everything he needs to know to have a good band (i.e. how to sing). He had no idea how it would work with the rest of the CD that was supposed to be a storyline on revenge. "I don't know if it fits," Way says, "but I know that's how we had to make the record. And it's one of those things you just hope works in the end. And actually, the record works so much more on a personal level not only for us but also for the people who listen to it.
  • In Shakespeare's A Midsummer Nights Dream, there is a character named Helena who toward the plays' end falls into a deep sleep. This could coincide with the songs' refrain, "So long and Goodnight."
  • Before playing this song during their 2005 American tour, Gerard Way would tell the crowd to look up and say, "Hey Grandma! What's Up?"

He quipped to Glamour magazine: "This song is my 'get-the-violins-out' ballad on the album haha. It's basically me saying that I hope one day I'll fall in love and settle down."
  • Murs regularly played a stripped back version of the song unaccompanied on the piano during his Right Place Right Time Tour. He described his solo performances as "pretty daunting."
