Unskinny Bop Lyrics

What's got you so jumpy?
Why can't you sit still, yeah?
Like gasoline you want to pump me
And leave me when you get your fill, yeah
Every time I touch you honey you get hot
I want to make love you never stop
Come up for air you push me to the floor
What's been going on in that head of yours

Unskinny Bop
Just blows me away
Unskinny bop, bop
All night and day
Unskinny bop, bop, bop, bop
She just loves to play
Unskinny bop nothin' more to say

You look at me so funny
Love bite got you acting oh so strange
You got too many bees in your honey
Am I just another word in your page, yeah, yeah
Every time I touch you you get hot
I want to make love you never stop
Come up for air you push me to the floor
What's been going on in that head of yours

Unskinny bop
Just blows me away
Unskinny bop, bop
All night and day
Unskinny bop, bop, bop, bop
She just loves to play
Unskinny bop nothin' more to say

You're sayin' my love won't do ya
That ain't love written on your face
Well honey I can see right through ya
Yeah whose ridin' who at the end of the race

What's right
What's wrong
What's left
What the hell is going on

Unskinny bop
Just blows me away
Unskinny bop, bop
All night and day
Unskinny bop, bop, bop, bop
She just loves to play
(Up for air, pulled to the floor)

Unskinny bop
No good, no good
Unskinny bop, bop
All night n' day, do it
Unskinny bop, bop, bop, bop
No good, no good, good, no good
Unskinny bop (oh ooh)
Unskinny bop

Unskinny Bop
  • According to Poison guitarist C.C. DeVille, the phrase "Unskinny Bop" has no particular meaning. DeVille wrote the music and used the phrase as a placeholder for the lyrics, which lead singer Bret Michaels would write. When their producer Bruce Fairbairn heard the phrase, he thought it was perfect for the song, even though he had no idea what it meant.
  • Poison formed in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1984 as Paris. They moved to Los Angeles in an ambulance Michaels bought for $700 and begin playing in clubs there. When their guitarist quit, they chose DeVille over Slash and Steve Silva, who also applied. Slash eventually joined Guns N' Roses and Silva was in the The Joe Perry Project. Poison got a record deal in 1986, disbanded in 1994 and re-formed in 1999.
  • On the 2002 Poison album Hollyweird, there's a song called "Home (Bret's Story)," where Michaels sings: "I eat dinner with Nick Cage and Charlie Sheen, Nick asks me what the hell 'Unskinny Bop' means, it's slang for CC banging a porno queen."

Whatever Gets You Thru The Night Lyrics

Whatever gets you through the night
It's all right, it's all right
It's your money or your life
It's all right, it's all right
Don't need a sword to cut through' flowers
    Oh no, oh no

Whatever gets you through your life
It's all right, it's all right
Do it wrong, or do it right
It's all right, it's all right

Don't need a watch to waste your time
    Oh no, oh no

Hold me, darlin', come on, listen to me
I won't do you no harm
Trust me, darlin', come on, listen to me
Come on, listen to me; come on, listen, listen

Whatever gets you to the light
It's all right, it's all right
Out of the blue, or out of sight
It's all right, it's all right
Don't need a gun to blow you mind
    Oh no, oh no

Hold me, darlin', come on, listen to me
I won't do you no harm
Trust me, darlin', come on, listen to me
Come on, listen to me, come on, listen, listen

Whatever Gets You Thru The Night
  • Elton John sang backing vocals and also played piano on this. He famously wagered Lennon that this song would become a #1 hit. When it did, Lennon made good on the wager by making a guest appearance at an Elton John concert on Thanksgiving night 1974 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. It turned out to be Lennon's last live rock performance.
That night, the duo also sang The Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There." Backstage, Yoko Ono reunited with Lennon, ending John's 18-month separation from her, known as his "Lost Weekend."
  • This hit the top of the US charts, but it fell fast. It spent just 3 weeks in the Top-10 before dropping from 2-16 in November 1974. In 2004 Fantasia broke this record when after 2 weeks in the Top Ten "I Believe" dropped from #6-18.
  • In December, 2005, John and Yoko's personal assistant May Pang told Radio Times: "At night he (John Lennon) loved to channel-surf, and he would pick up phrases from all the shows. One time, he was watching Reverend Ike, a famous black evangelist, who was saying, "Let me tell you guys, it doesn't matter, it's whatever gets you through the night." John loved it and said, "I've got to write it down or I'll forget it." He always kept a pad and pen by the bed. That was the beginning of Whatever Gets You Thru The Night."
  • With this song, Lennon became the last of the Beatles to hit #1 US in their respective post-Beatles careers. By this time Paul McCartney had hit #1 three times, and George Harrison and Ringo Starr twice each.
  • In 1975 Lennon helped out on Elton's John's #1 cover of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds." Lennon played guitar on that track and was credited as "Dr. Winston O'Boogie."
  • What was it like recording the Walls And Bridges album? When we asked David Thoener, who was an engineer at the sessions, he told us: "It was amazing. Despite all of the personal pain John Lennon was in, (it was during his lost weekend) he was a consummate professional in the studio. Almost as if working kept him sane, through those difficult times. Working with him was quite an experience and something I am very glad to have been part of."

  • This is the first single from Brooklyn-based trio Augustines (formerly We Are Augustines) eponymous second album. Vocalist/guitarist Billy McCarthy explained the song's meaning: "There's a great saying in America: 'Dance with who brung ya.' To me it means stick with who got you where you are. This song is about the realization that now is the time. Gone are the days of wandering around waiting for that right time. There is no right time, so go – ya got nothing to lose but your head."

If I had a day that I could give you

I'd sing a song to make you feel this way

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high

If I had a tale that I could tell you
I'd tell a tale sure to make you smile
If I had a wish that I could wish for you

    Sunshine On My Shoulders
  • Denver wrote this song on an early spring day in Minnesota when the rain was gently falling. He found himself looking forward to spending more time outdoors and enjoying the sunshine. He said of the song, "On one level it was about the virtues of love. On another, more deeply felt level, it reached for something the whole world could embrace."
  • This song first appeared on John Denver's 1971 album Poems, Prayers & Promises. Denver was a struggling singer/songwriter at the time who was enjoying his first solo hit "Take Me Home Country Roads," which was released a few months before the album and was climbing the charts. Over the next few years, Denver found an audience with his heartwarming, spiritual songs that dealt with finding pleasure in the simple things. "Sunshine" was revived in 1973 when it was used as the B-side of Denver's single "I'd Rather Be a Cowboy," which reached #62 in the US. Later that year, "Sunshine On My Shoulders" was issued as an A-side single, and for a week in February 1974, it was the #1 song in America. Seems the United States was in a kinder, happier mood at the time, as the next #1 was "Hooked On A Feeling" by Blue Swede.
  • This song got a big boost when it was used in a November 1973 made-for-TV movie called Sunshine, which was a weeper about a woman dying of cancer who recorded messages for her family in her final days. The concept was used in a spin-off series the next year, also called Sunshine.
  • This was used in the 1994 episode of The Simpsons called "Bart of Darkness." It also appeared in a 2005 episode of the show Cold Case.
  • Denver wrote this song with his lead guitarist Mike Taylor and bass player Richard Kniss. Taylor also co-wrote "Rocky Mountain High" with Denver.

  • This is the title track of The Boo Radleys third album, which was the English Alternative Rocker's breakthrough record, peaking at #17 on the UK Top 20. Select magazine named it as their album of the year and NME placed it at #2 in their Best of 1993 list.
  • Boo Radleys frontman and John Coltraine aficionado, Martin Carr, titled the album after the Jazz legend's 1960 record of the same name.
  • The song was inspired by frontman Martin Carr's quarter-life crisis. He told NME: "I spent the last year really worried about being 23 and I had this rush of memories of my life so far. I was obsessed with it and I just didn't go out at all."

  • Dave sugggested at a 2006 concert in Saratoga, NY, that this song is about the human population destroying the world, and one monkey surviving and starting everything over again.

Won't you go away (little girl)

Won't you go away (little girl)
    Wooo ooo go away.

    Go Away Little Girl
    Go away little girl
I'm not supposed to be alone with you
Oh yes I know that your lips are sweet
But our lips must never meet
I belong to somebody else and I must be true.

    Please go away little girl
    Go away little girl
It's hurting me more each minute that you delay
When you are near me like this
You're much too hard to resist
So go away little girl before I beg you to stay.

Won't you go away (little girl)
Wish you wouldn't stay (little girl)
Won't you go away (little girl)
    Wooo ooo go away.

    Go away little girl

You're much too hard to resist
    So go away little girl
Call it a day little girl
Please go away little girl before I beg you to stay.

    Go Away Little Girl
  • The second solo single to be released by Donny Osmond, this was a cover of Steve Lawrence's 1962 chart-topper "Go Away Little Girl." When Donny's own version also reached the summit of the Hot 100, it became the first song of the Rock era to be taken to the top of the charts by two different artists. The second song to accomplish this feat was "The Loco-Motion" by Little Eva (1962), then Grand Funk (1974). The husband-and-wife songwriting team of Gerry Goffin and Carole King penned both tunes.

    (You're My) Soul And Inspiration
  • With soaring vocals and a symphonic arrangement, this song bears a strong resemblance to the Righteous Brothers' breakout hit, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'." That song was written by the Brill Building songwriting duo of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, and produced by Phil Spector. When it became a #1 hit in 1965, Spector asked Mann and Weil to write another one, and they came up with "Soul And Inspiration." They saw it as a carbon copy of "Lovin' Feelin'," however, and didn't deliver it to Spector.

By 1966, The Righteous Brothers had signed a $1 million deal with MGM Records and needed a hit to please their new corporate overlords. Medley remembered the tune Mann and Weil had scrapped, and asked them to revive it. They reluctantly delivered the song to Medley, who produced it himself, using many of Spector's techniques.

Released as their first single for MGM, "(You're My) Soul And Inspiration" returned the duo to the top of the Hot 100, where it stayed for three weeks.
  • The song's co-writer Cynthia Weil said of this song: "It will always be Lovin' Feelin' sideways to me."

The listening public seems to agree: While the song remains a Righteous Brothers favorite, it never had a popular resurgence like "Lovin' Feelin'" or "Unchained Melody," and is rarely heard in movies, TV shows or commercials.

    Papi Pacify
  • An R&B musician and dancer of Jamaican and Spanish descent, Tahliah Barnett moved from her childhood home in rural Gloucestershire, to London where she became known as Twigs (for the way her bones crack). The acronym FKA was later affixed at the request of another artist called Twigs. The young singer paid her dues as a back-up dancer in Jessie J's video for "Do It Like A Dude," and also appeared in a BBC comedy sketch called Beyoncé Wants Groceries, in which she can be seen dancing in a supermarket.
  • This smoldering track was the lead single from Twigs' critically acclaimed EP2, which was released on indie label Young Turks (The xx, Jack Penate) on September 10 2013. The moody and intimate cut features production from Yeezus collaborator Arca.
  • The song's music video was directed by FKA Twigs and Tom Beard. She told NME regarding its concept: "It's important to run with your first instinct. The video is meant to be a physical manifestation of emotional turmoil with a lover."

    Pink Moon Lyrics

    Pink Moon
  • The cryptic 2-minute title track of Nick Drake's third album, he got the name of this song from the Dictionary Of Folklore. It represents the blood-red color of the moon during eclipses.
  • Drake never had anything resembling a hit in America, but "Pink Moon" has become his most popular song in that country. This is due in no small part to its use in a 1999 commercial for the Volkswagen Cabriolet convertible, which show four young people driving under the moonlight. When they reach their destination - a party - they tacitly agree to keep driving. The ad, which was created by the agency Arnold Worldwide, sparked a resurgence of interest in the song and in Nick Drake.

The commercial was titled "Milky Way," and this song was not the first choice - "Under the Milky Way" by The Church was what they originally had in mind.
  • This song contains just Drake's voice, piano and acoustic guitar. These three elements are all that is heard on the entire album, as there were no outside musicians involved. In fact, the only man who seemed to know that Drake was even making an album was his producer/engineer John Wood, who recorded it.

Even then, Drake was being called "the great silent enigma of our time." His record company, Island, claimed that they had lost track of him, and only knew about the album when Drake walked into the office and delivered it.

Pink Moon would be Drake's last album; two years later he died after overdosing on antidepressant drugs in what was possibly a suicide. The singer was battling depression when he made this music, which is both melancholy and wondrous, providing an insight into his state of mind.

Where Did My Baby Go Lyrics

I happened to notice a girl in a light shade of blue
I happened to see her, the sight of her leaves me confused
    She may not be you
But she looks just like you

You should've seen the way she wore her dress
    And her white stiletto shoes
You should've seen the way they looked on her
Just like the ones that I bought you
I searched for days on end to no avail
‘Til I found them in Peru
She must've been to Lima just as well
    Because she had them too
You should've seen her eyes, her lips, her face
She looked as sweet as honeydew
You should've seen the way she walked away
Oh, she swayed her hips like you
I was only several steps from her
    But she never noticed me
I took another sip of fine liqueur
It was quite a sight to see

I happened to notice a girl in a light shade of blue
I happened to see her, the sight of her leaves me confused
    She may not be you
But she looks just like you

You should've seen the way he stroked her hair
And the smile that lit her face
You should've seen the way he kissed her lips
Did it have the same sweet taste?
Though my mid, it might be running wild
    In constant search of you
It's funny how my eyes keep seeing things my heart
    Would not believe are true

I happened to notice a man in a dark shade of blue
Who happened to be with a woman who leaves me confused

    Where Did My Baby Go
  • Several critics have commented that this song sounds like something written by Burt Bacharach. However, Legend told Performing Songwriting magazine that any similarities were accidental. "I'm not really a student of his work," he said. "He was a prolific songwriter, and there are songs of his that I didn't even know I knew, like songs sung by Luther Vandross and Aretha Franklin. But I don't own any of his albums. It just so happened that I end up sounding like him."

"You listen to music and use it to try to create something new, and who knows what's going to come into your head," Legend continued."A song is a song. You produce a song, and at that moment when you produce it, that's when you take it into a genre. Before you produce it, it's just a song, and it could be any style depending on how you decide to mix it and arrange it. To me, when you evaluate songwriting, you don't do it on a genre basis. You ask, 'Is this a good song?'"
