Bad Girl

This industrial grinder finds Lavigne teaming up with Marilyn Manson. The Canadian singer told Billboard magazine that she first met the shock rocker at one of his gigs when she was just 18. "I went to one of his shows and we hung out backstage," she recalled. "We were friendly over the years. And then I wrote this song called 'Bad Girl' and it's darker and heavier; it's one of the rock tunes on the record, so I called him up."

Lavigne revealed to MTV News that the collaboration with Marilyn Manson was completely unplanned. "It was last minute," she said. "I was sitting there at the board thinking Manson would be perfect on this track, so I texted him, and he's like, 'I'll come over and I'll hear it.' So he came at 4 o'clock in the morning. Yes, it was one of those nights."

A Murder Of One

This song contains the band's namesake in the lyrics and reveals the origin. The Grudge

This is about a battle with Saturn ascending and teaching us lessons over and over again until we get it right. "Saturn ascends, choose one or ten. Hang on or be humbled again" means get it right or Saturn will come around again teaching the same lesson until you do it. "The one the ten" could be the Aries and Capricorn houses in the zodiac (Capricorn is ruled by Saturn). A lot of what Maynard Keenan is saying relates to characteristics of a Capricorn. They are known to hold grudges and be control freaks. Maynard is an Aries, the true pioneer of the zodiac. It could be a message for all the caps and people out there who hold grudges.

The line, "Unable To Forgive Your Scarlet Lettermen" presumably refers to the classic novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. One of the main characters in the book is a female adulteress who is forced to wear a scarlet letter 'A' on her breast as punishment.

Celine Dion covered this Daniel Merriweather and Adele duet for her Loved Me Back To Life album, turning it into her own restrained gin-soaked breakup ballad. "Instead of trying to make it pure and perfect, I get to loosen up a little," she told Katie Couric of the song on her daytime talk show.

Dion sings this with the lower, grainier register of her voice. She told Billboard magazine: "A few years ago, I would have pronounced it 'a couple of more,' would have sung [stretches out the notes] 'til I forget your naaaame.' So for me, it's very, very different. I'm using my bedroom hair, bedroom voice."

This Diane Warren penned song accompanied the British-German film Song for Marion. However, when the soundtrack for the movie was released in February 2013, it wasn't included as it was being saved for Dion's Loved Me Back To Life album.

Warren has been working with Dion since the early 1990s and has written over a dozen singles for her, including "Because You Loved Me" and "If You Asked Me To." The songwriter played Dion an early version of the song after one of the singer's Vegas shows in 2011, with the intention of recording it that week during the Canadian's time off. Despite her busy schedule, Dion remained committed to nailing the perfect take in the studio. "Here's what's so impressive about working with Celine, what separates the good from the great," Warren told Billboard magazine. "I went to her show, and it's almost two hours. She's not lip-synching. She's singing songs that aren't easy to sing. Then we went in the studio at 11:30 at night and she stayed until, like, 4 a.m. and would not leave until it was perfect. I kept thinking, 'That's why she's going to be around forever.' A lot of times you work with singers and they're like, 'Aw, I'll finish next time.' She just came from two hours onstage and then really sang her ass off. Not that she needed to - she got it right the first time. There's too few people like that."
