Isobel Lyrics

In a forest pitch dark
Glowed the tiniest spark
It burst into flame
Like me
Like me

My name Isobel
Married to myself
My love Isobel
Living by herself

In a heart full of dust
Lives a creature called lust
It surprises and scares
Like me
Like me

My name Isobel
Married to myself
My love Isobel
Living by herself

When she does it she means to
Moth delivers her message
Unexplained on your collar
Crawling in silence
A simple excuse

Nana na na na, Nana na na na
Nana na na na, Nana na na na

In a tower of steel
Nature forges a deal
To raise wonderful hell
Like me
Like me

My name Isobel
Married to myself
My love Isobel
Living by herself

When she does it she means to
Moth delivers her message
Unexplained on your collar
Crawling in silence
A simple excuse

Nana na na na, Nana na na na
Nana na na na, Nana na na na
Nana na na na, Nana na na na
Nana na na na, Nana na na na

Isobel
  • This is a strange, epic, modern fairy tale about a girl named Isobel. It was the first single released from the Post album.
  • Björk says of this song on Björk.com: "This is the story of Isobel; she was born in a forest by a spark, and as she grew up, she realized that the pebbles on the forest floor were actually skyscrapers. And by the time she was a grown-up woman and the skyscrapers had taken over the forest. She found herself in a city, and she didn't like all the people there so much, because they were a bit too clever for her."
  • After directing clips for "Human Behaviour" and "Army Of Me," French filmmaker Michel Gondry returns for the surreal black-and-white music video for "Isobel," which follows Björk in the lead role as a girl who grows airplanes by planting light bulbs with toy planes inside.

Hold On We're Going Home Lyrics

I got my eyes on you
    You're everything that I see
I want your hot love and emotion, endlessly
    I can't get over you
You left your mark on me
I want your high love and emotion, endlessly
'Cause you're a good girl and you know it
You act so different around me
'Cause you're a good girl and you know it
I know exactly who you could be

Just Hold On We're Going Home
Just hold on we're going home
It's hard to do these things alone
Just hold on we're going home, ho oh

I got my eyes on you
    You're everything that I see
I want your hot love and emotion, endlessly
    I can't get over you
You left your mark on me
I want your high love and emotion, endlessly
'Cause you're a good girl and you know it
You act so different around me
'Cause you're a good girl and you know it
I know exactly who you could be

So just hold on we're going home (goin' home)

It's hard to do these things alone (things alone)
Just hold on we're going home (goin' home)
    Ho oh (goin' home)

    You're the girl
    You're the one
    Gave you every
    Thing I love
    I think there's something
    Baby
    I think there's something
    Baby

    You're the girl
    You're the one
    Gave you every
    Thing I love
    I think there's something

    Hold On We're Going Home
  • The second single from Drake's Nothing Was the Same album is a Noah "40" Shebib co-produced cut, which finds the Toronto MC singing about a "good girl" whom he attempts to seduce.

"I got my eyes on you, you're everything that I see
I want your hot love and emotion endlessly
I can't get over you, you left your mark on me
I want your high love and emotion endlessly."

"It's me and 40 just channeling our Quincy Jones/Michael Jackson production duo," Drake told MTV News. "Obviously no offense to the greats, I know we're not anywhere near that — it's just us kinda doing our thing, humbly attempting."
"It's not a rap record," he added. "It's not 'Versace,' it's not 'Started from the Bottom.' In approaching this album I was like man, it would be great if we had a record that was played at weddings in 10 years or that people that are away from their families in the army could listen to. Something that just [has] timeless writing, timeless melody."
  • The song features a group called Majid Jordan, who are signed to Drake's OVO Sound label. The act is a pair of Toronto producers, Majid Al Maskati and Jordan "ClassAct" Ullman, who were formerly known as Good People.
  • The song's music video takes place in 1985 Miami and was directed by Bill Pope, who also worked on The Matrix trilogy. It finds Drake playing a criminal kingpin who gets his lover kidnapped by a rival gang and does everything in his power to get his girl back home. Actor Steven Baauer (Scarface) plays the bad guy, whilst rapper A$AP Rocky gives the opening toast. "Basically it's a video full of acting because I'm dying to get back into acting," Drake told MTV News. "So there's actually no performance in the video."

"I based it off of some of the old Michael Jackson videos like Moonwalker," he added, "so it's sort of exciting, violent a little and scary a little, but it's great."
  • Drake revealed to Jian Ghomeshi of CBC Radio that he knocked out this song in about two hours.
  • This was Pitchfork 's Top Track of 2013. The alternative music website said: "'Hold On' promises all we can ask for from a pop song (or another person): hot love and emotion, for richer or poorer, for better or worse, in sickness and in health. Endlessly."
  • A version by The Voice Season 6 contestant Christina Grimme peaked at #74 on the Hot 100.
  • Despite being a R&B song, this won a VMA for Best Hip-Hop Video of the Year. Drake gave a acceptance speech during a Boston concert, in which jokingly commented on the oddity of his win. "I know this is a hip-hop award and a lot of you out there are frustrated, like, 'This is not a hip-hop song.' And you know what? You're right -- I tricked you all," he laughed. "Rappers, better luck next year. Thank you."

To all the kids with heroin eyes

    Another Soulmate Lyrics

    Another Soulmate
  • This one-off single was released in time for Jane's Addiction's August 9, 2013 co-headlining appearance at the Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival, in Scranton, Pennsylvania and was a centrepiece of their five-week Uproar Tour. "Being that we have a tour, I'm really happy that we have a good song that will serve as our calling card when we hit various cities," frontman Perry Farrell told Rolling Stone. "Jane's is kind of known for long songs; being this is a one-song single, I thought it'd be interesting to try and write a Beatles-esque short song that would be fast and furious and it would just be fun, dig it and move on, short attention span."
  • This was inspired by a girlfriend of Perry's wife, Etty Lau Farrell. "This girlfriend, as all people do, really wanted a mate," the singer explained, "and I think she shortchanged herself an awful lot in life. She's a good-looking woman, she had a career, but when it came to love and romance, she sold herself short all the time and she would reach out to guys that we would scratch our head like, 'What is she doing with this guy?' She said, 'I feel like he's my soul mate.' Any time she'd meet a guy she'd say, 'I feel like he's my soul mate.' So I wrote this song."
  • The song was first performed live by Jane's Addiction back in 2010 when bassist Duff McKagan was sitting in with the band.

    Casey Jones Lyrics

Drivin' that train, high on cocaine
Casey Jones you better, watch your speed
    Trouble ahead, trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind

This old engine, makes it on time
Leaves Central Station at a quarter to nine
Hits River Junction at seventeen to
At a quarter to ten you know it's travelin' again

Drivin' that train, high on cocaine
Casey Jones you better, watch your speed
    Trouble ahead, trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind

Trouble ahead, The Lady in Red
Take my advice you'd be better off dead
Switchman sleepin', train hundred and two
is on the wrong track and headed for you

Drivin' that train, high on cocaine
Casey Jones you better, watch your speed
    Trouble ahead, trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind

Trouble with you is the trouble with me
Got two good eyes but we still don't see
Come 'round the bend, you know it's the end
The fireman screams and the engine just gleams

    Casey Jones
  • "Casey Jones" is (very) loosely based on the real life happenings of the heroic engineer Casey Jones, who was the subject of the famous 1902 song "The Ballad Of Casey Jones." It was doubtful that Jones was high on cocaine when he took over the train, and although his life was ended when he was hit by a train traveling the wrong way, he sacrificed his life so those on board could be saved.
  • In the book Garcia: A Signpost to New Space, Jerry Garcia was asked if this song grates on him when he hears it. The Dead frontman replied: "Sometimes, but that's what it's supposed to do. It's got a split-second little delay, which sounds very mechanical, like a typewriter almost, on the vocal, which is like a little bit jangly, and the whole thing is, I always thought it's a pretty good musical picture of what cocaine is like. A little bit evil. And hard-edged. And also that sing-songy thing, because that's what it is, a sing-songy thing, a little melody that gets in your head."
  • Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter came up with the line "Drivin' that train, high on cocaine, Casey Jones you'd better watch your speed," which he wrote down and put in his pocket. He didn't think of it as part of a song until he looked at it later and decided to complete the lyrics.

When they put the song together, Hunter looked for ways to omit the word "cocaine," which at the time was a controversial word for song lyrics (they had taken some heat for using "Goddamn" in "Uncle John's Band"). Hunter tried some other phrases - "whipping that chain," "lugging propane" - but couldn't find an acceptable substitute, so Casey Jones ended up high on cocaine as originally written.

    Blame It On Love Lyrics

    Blame It On Love
  • This was released as the first single from Los Lonely Boys' sixth album. Guitarist Henry Garza told AntiMusic : "We picked this track to be the first to be released because we felt that this song really took us back to our Texican roots, and it was a song that almost anyone could connect with."

Garza added: "The real inspiration behind this song was love, and we were looking for a way to say that love is the reason for everything. In all honesty, who hasn't had a situation where they could blame the outcome on love!? If we really pay attention, everything we do is motivated by love."
  • The track was recorded at Bismeaux Studios in Austin, Texas with Don Gehman manning the boards. Gehman is best known for his work in the 1980s with John Mellencamp and R.E.M. Garza told AntiMusic regarding the veteran producer: "He has worked with so many greats, and it was a humbling experience to be in the studio with him. Don just has a way of knowing how to make a track pop, and he did that with 'Blame It On Love.'"

  • At a concert, The Reverend explained that this song is about a real band called The Loco Gringos that used to play in California. They had a lot of character, and would literally bring "5 bales of hay" to decorate the set; they cruised town in a "Cadillac Hearse" and had a tour bus painted like the Mexican flag; they lived in a house they called "Gringo Manor;" and there was a guy who would sell corndogs at their shows, which explains the line, "Hey there, Pablo, whatcha got in the bag?"

  • Producer Mike WiLL Made It's lead single from his Est. In 1989 Pt. 3 (The Album) longplayer features Miley Cyrus crooning alongside rapper Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J. Will also worked with Cyrus on her BANGERZ album and he told MTV News about this collaboration with the former Disney starlet. "I already had Juicy J and Wiz on there, and then we were working on 'We Can't Stop,' and I had a verse on there that was already laid down, but I wanted a girl to do it," he explained.

"But I didn't know who I was going to do it with, and this was first day meeting Miley, and we had just knocked out 'We Can't Stop.' And then I let her hear it, and she told me she liked it," Will added.
  • Will admitted telling Cyrus that he had some reservations about her contributing a rapped verse, but that didn't stop her. "She told my engineer, 'Turn the mike on,' and she went in the booth, then she laid down the verse, and she killed it," the producer explained. "[So I] left her on there. She killed it, all swagged up."
  • The song finds Will paying tribute to Michael Jordan. The title is a reference to the basketball legend's shirt number, which he wore as it was half (then rounded up) of his brother, Larry's number 45. When Michael was at high school, he believed that he only had half of Larry's skills and wanted to be at least half as good.
  • Cyrus told MTV News why she was so eager to get on the cut. "He had had this track '23' with Wiz and Juicy already, and it's just on some cool like old-school J s--t and that's what's really cool about it," she said. "And like people wouldn't expect me to be on a song about Jordan... right now all they really see of me and Juicy is me at his concert way too twerked up, they haven't seen what we can do when were together and when were together it's this crazy kind of vibe because it's not what people would really expect."

"I'm definitely not a rapper. It's my rapping," Cyrus added. "It's my own swag. I hate that word. But it's just the only way I can really describe it, it's just kind of my own thing where it's not really rapping, it's just kind of on my own thing it's just kind of on my own s--t."
  • The song's music video was filmed in Brooklyn on August 26, 2013 and directed by Hannah Lux Davis (Lil Wayne's "Love Me," Jason Derulo's "Marry Me").

Cyrus can be seen wearing at one stage the controversial foam finger she waved and gyrated against during her 2013 MTV Video Music Awards performance . Davis recalled to Billboard magazine that she saw Cyrus' more professional side. "She was there the whole day of shooting, even though she didn't need to be," said the director. "Her energy on set was great - so personable, so easy."
  • Mike WiLL Made It got a huge amount of flak at the time for working with a pop act. "All I hear is 'Yo, that s--t you're making ain't hip-hop,'" he told Billboard magazine. "People told me that Miley's '23' wasn't hip-hop. Let me tell you, she went in and owned that track. She smoked more weed in one week than most rappers I know. That song was not some far-fetched thing she had to reach for. She was ill as hell. When people question me about whether something is hip-hop, I ask them, 'Does it sound hard? Does it hit home? Is it raw and real?' If it is, I did my job. And you can call it whatever you want."

I’m waking up on Sunset Boulevard
Maxing out all my credit cards
    Living my own LA story
Living it up ’til the morning

Sammy, I’m not trying to show you love and affection
I’m trying to live the life a kid always expected
Over on Sunset, finished a couple sessions
One foot in the door, one in the hills, questions
Angels in leather, I ain’t talking ’bout the motor club
But I tend to go hella hard when I go to clubs
Minibar murder, I’m on Denzel’s flight
With a stewardess that wants to fuck the whole damn night
Who cares what they all say
Try’na find some girls like Hov' did with Beyonce
Had you for a week but I heard you say fiance
Na na, none of that girl

I fell in love, the streets got a glow
The city of angels is calling me home

And she said, and she said uh

I’m waking up on Sunset Boulevard
Maxing out all my credit cards
    Living my own LA story
Living it up ’til the morning
We’ll be taking shots under the stars
    Living off of hotel minibars
    Living our own LA story
Living it up, living it up
    We living it up

    Everybody’s a model or a wannabe
If you’re that bad it’s in Paris where you ought’a be
She’s an actress, working on the late shift
Only longs for a big break as a waitress
Walk the strip, see the fashion getting wacky now
    Out the door, passing out
    Hit the floor, Pacquiao
Credit card at the bar never closing out
But the weather’s so nice, nobody slowing down
    Well except for the 101
Gotta SUV stuck in traffic with a ton of buds
I can promise you tonight’s gon’ be a ton of fun
    Know that c-c-c-c

‘Cause I fell in love, the streets got a glow
The city of angels is calling me home

And she said, and she said uh
I’m waking up on Sunset Boulevard
Maxing out all my credit cards
    Living my own LA story
Living it up ’til the morning
We’ll be taking shots under the stars
    Living off of hotel minibars
    Living our own LA story
Living it up, living it up
    We living it up

Upper Edge Cafe like Vinny Chase
She got a big booty, itty bitty skinny waist
    Henny straight, everyday summer
Never on the sheets like you’re on top of the cover
Every day when I’m away look at the toe so
Look at the cops, don’t even care, you can just blow smoke
I’m Robin Hood on the beat
I get paid in LA and give it back to the D

I fell in love, the streets got a glow
The city of angels is calling me home

And she said, and she said uh

I’m waking up on Sunset Boulevard
Maxing out all my credit cards
    Living my own LA story
Living it up ’til the morning
We’ll be taking shots under the stars
    Living off of hotel minibars
    Living our own LA story
Living it up, living it up
    We living it up

    L.A. Story
  • The Bostonian rapper Sammy Adams told Zann during his show on New York's Hit Music Channel 92.3 that his song was not well received by his East coast friends. "People from Boston would be like, 'Why'd you write an L.A. Story song?' And it's like well if you listen closely, you can tell I'm from Boston because I sort of take the piss out of a lot of things in L.A."
  • Mike Posner sings on the new track. Adams told Zann that the cut was a fun project that was a long time coming. "Mike and I have known each other for years. We did a show together with Big Sean – I think it was 2008 or 2009–out in California.," he said. "Then, Mikey released Matter of Time and Sean was releasing Finally Famous mixtapes, and then both of them blew up so we never got to work. We had ideas of working on songs together, then they both just got really busy. [L.A. Story] was great because we needed someone to help me sing the hook and do the bridge, and Mikey immediately came to mind."
  • Adams wrote the song with Posner, Oren Yorl, Ryan Tedder and Noel Zancanella. The latter two also produced the cut. It was released as the lead single from I Wish on May 28, 2013.
  • The video is set on beach side LA as we see Adams skate by the seafront in reverse.

    Man Of Constant Sorrow Lyrics

I am a Man Of Constant Sorrow,
I've seen trouble all my day.
I bid farewell to old Kentucky,
The place where I was born and raised.
(The place where he was born and raised )

For six long years I've been in trouble,
No pleasures here on earth I found.
For in this world I'm bound to ramble,
I have no friends to help me now.
(He has no friends to help him now.)

It's fare thee well my old lover.
I never expect to see you again.
For I'm bound to ride that northern railroad,
Perhaps I'll die upon this train.
(Perhaps he'll die upon this train.)

You can bury me in some deep valley,
For many years where I may lay.
Then you may learn to love another,
While I am sleeping in my grave.
(While he is sleeping in his grave.)

Maybe your friends think I'm just a stranger
My face, you'll never see no more.
But there is one promise that is given
I'll meet you on God's golden shore.
(He'll meet you on God's golden shore.)

    Man Of Constant Sorrow
  • This song was featured in the movie Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?, which is based on the novel The Odyssey. The song relates to the story: the line, "I am a man of constant sorrow. I've seen trouble all my days" refers to Odysseus and all the troubles he had on his journey home.
  • The Soggy Bottom Boys were a group that was made up for the movie with George Clooney as one of the members. The real voice was that of Dan Tyminski from the band Union Station, with backing vocals from Harley Allen and Pat Enright. Tyminski was later tapped by the EDM star Avicii to sing on his 2013 Bluegrass-inspired song "Hey Brother."
  • This song was first published in 1913 by the blind folk singer Richard Burnett. Some artists who recorded the song include The Stanley Brothers, Bob Dylan and Jerry Garcia.
  • The song won the 2001 CMA award for Best Single and a Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals.
  • Released in 1961, Judy Collins' first album was called A Maid of Constant Sorrow, with the title track being a version of this song with the gender reversed.

    Melody Calling Lyrics

    Oh I,
How can I go on with it much further?
I didn’t think that it would go any further,
But now it has and it’s making me nervous,
    A wonderful motion,
That is turning in your every motion,
    Oh I,
I think I might be losing my mind,

    [Chorus]
When I hear a Melody Calling,
    Is your melody calling?
    Isn’t anyone calling?
    Melody calling.
    Melody calling (x4)

    Oh I,
How can I go on with it much further?
I didn’t think that it would go any further,
But now it has and it’s making me nervous,
    A wonderful motion,
That is turning in your every motion,
    Oh I,
I think I might be losing my mind,

    Oh I,
I just did an undeniable order,
    order,
I hear it moving under the border,
    Cussing the ocean,
And calling in your every motion
I think I might be losing my mind,

    [Chorus: x2]
When I hear a melody calling,
    Is your melody calling?
    Isn’t anyone calling?
    Melody calling.

    Melody Calling
  • The title track of The Vaccines' Melody Calling EP was penned by frontman Justin Young during Christmas 2012. He told NME: "I'd built loads of vocal stuff around the main chorus vocal, and then ended up muting the main part so all that's left is the harmonies – that's why they're all falsetto. It moves in a different way. It's not one you bang your head to; maybe you sway a bit more."
  • The song's music video finds bassist Arni Arnason plucking up the courage to call a woman on the phone. It was shot on East London's Regents Canal and in the London Fields outdoor swimming pool.
