Implode

The first new Slayer song in five years, the band debuted the tune at Revolver magazine's 2014 Golden Gods Awards. The tune was originally penned with the intention of being included on an unreleased EP that was supposed to coincide with the group's appearance on the 2012 Mayhem Festival tour.

The song features lyrics concerning the "extermination of mankind." "It's not directly connected to the Mayan Calendar, but everybody always talks about the world ending," guitarist Kerry King told Artist Direct in 2012. "Whether it's with war or disease, that's where I went with it."

Movin' On Up (Theme to The Jeffersons)

The Jeffersons was a spinoff of All in the Family in which the Bunkers' black next-door neighbors moved to a "deluxe apartment in the sky." This gospel-tinged song described their progression "on up." The show ran 1975-1985 and starred Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford. Roxie Roker, who played their neighbor Helen Willis, is the mother of Lenny Kravitz.

The gospel choir consisted of 35 black churchgoers. Despite the choir, the song is often covered by garage bands.

Ja'net Dubois wrote this song with the legendary songwriter Jeff Barry, who also sang backup vocals. Barry and his wife, Ellie Greenwich, composed several popular songs such as "Why Do Lovers Break Each Other's Hearts?," "Da Doo Ron Ron," "Then He Kissed Me," "Baby I Love You", "Be My Baby," "The Kind of Boy You Can't Forget," "I Can Hear Music," and "River Deep, Mountain High."

Dubois said of this song: "I know about black folks movin' up. I've been there."

DuBois played the role of Willona Woods on another black sitcom, Good Times. Good Times was a spinoff of Maude, which like The Jeffersons, was a spinoff of All in the Family.

The Jeffersons featured TV's first mixed-married couple, a white husband and a black wife. It had its own short-lived spinoff, Checking In.

This is commonly played at sporting events when a team which has previously been doing poorly makes a startling comeback and hence moves back "up" to its previous status.

Nelly sampled this for his song "Batter Up" (the title was inspired by the line in this song, "Now it's our turn at bat"). "Batter Up" was a spoof of the media's enthusiasm for sports and also featured St. Lunatics and Murphey Lee.

When the first season of The Jeffersons was released on DVD, it was called "Movin' On Up." (thanks, Brett - Edmonton, Canada, for all above)

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, rapper Ludacris said, "That's every black person's favorite TV theme, because we movin' on up!"

This featured in commercial for Apartments.com that aired during the 2016 Super Bowl. In the spot, Jeff Goldblum (in character as Brad Bellflower) is hoisted up a building as he plays this song on a piano. On one floor, he spots a guy dressed like George Washington standing next to the rapper Lil Wayne (known as Weezy), and asks, "Is that George and Weezy," to which Wayne replies, "Who else would it be?" Turns out they're grilling beans, since as we known from this song, beans don't burn on the grill.

Kip Winger told AntiMusic the story of this song: "Reb (Beach, guitar) and I wanted to do a Progressive song. Something that summed up the Prog side of what we do, aka 'Rainbow in the Rose' or 'M16' but take it further," he said. "The Right hand keyboard riff, kind of fell into my hands, it's in 4/4 and Reb started played the ascending guitar parts instinctively in 5/4. Polyrhythm lends itself very well to this type of music."

"I went on the compose several other sections that Reb and I jammed over, the arrangement took about a day," Kip continued. "I had several lyric ideas but got stuck on finishing so I sent to by friend Donnie Purnell who sent back a version of my lyrics completed by him, Strangely without mentioning it to me, he wrote about PTSD and I had wanted to write about this for a while... Tailgunner

A sequel to Maiden's 1984 song "Aces High." It depicts the battle from another perspective. It was co-written by Bruce Dickinson and Steve Harris.

Contains the harshest profanity Iron Maiden has ever used in their song lyrics- the F-word.

Bruce Dickinson: "The title came from a porno movie about anal sex. Then I thought, well I can't write the lyrics about that, so I write it about real tailgunners. I had some words which began 'Trace your way back fifty years, to the glow of Dresden, blood and tears.' I know we shouldn't mention the war but it's about the attitude of bombing people. It was real death in the skies back then. But there aren't any tailgunners on planes anymore, it's all done by computers using missiles. At least it used to be man-on-man, but now it's machine-on-machine. Who uses bullets anymore?"

The first track off the album, it featured Dickinson imitating former vocalist Paul Di'Anno 's raspy singing style.

Dickinson sang the word "Fokker" (a plane term) in a way that sounded very similar to the popular expletive.

After the Black Keys had finished touring El Camino in January 2013, the pair headed to the Key Club studio in Benton Harbor to record an album's worth of songs on Sly Stone's old console. "We left the building once in two weeks," guitarist Dan Auerbach recalled to NME. "It felt like we were on a ship in the ocean."

The band felt that they'd unnecessarily rushed the process and only retained two cuts from the sessions for their Turn Blue album - this song and "Gotta Get Away."

This was released as the first single from Turn Blue. The Black Keys gave the song's first UK airing on XFM's Evening Show with Georgie Rogers. "Ultimately I think it's something different than anything we've done before," drummer Patrick Carney told Georgie. "It's a pretty diverse album and a little bit more psychedelic than the last record."

"It always feels strange releasing a single because you have to separate the song from the whole album and you kind of listen to a song out of context for a few weeks," he added. "That's the part I have always had trouble wrapping my head around because for Dan and I, our albums are meant to be listened to as albums. I'm excited for people to hear the song. I'm more excited for people to hear the whole album."

The song's music video features Dan Auerbach as a televangelist, whilst Patrick Carney nods along approvingly on the side. The clip was directed by photographer Theo Wenner, who is the son of Rolling Stone co-founder and publisher Jann Wenner.

Auerbach urges his followers to call his donation hotline number - 1 (646) 397-6172 , which flashes at the bottom of the screen. Try dialing it for a largely indecipherable pre-recorded message, which turns out to be Patrick Carney, posing as New Age act Quartzazium, prank-calling the Black Keys' own label, Nonesuch.

The Black Keys felt freed of the need to write hit singles for Turn Blue, but this still became radio hit. Auerbach told the BBC: "We made five albums without once ever thinking about a single and then we wrote 'Tighten Up' and it got played on radio and changed our career. So from then we started looking at it as a challenge."

"So when we were writing 'Fever,' we wanted it to be catchy," he continued. "We weren't thinking 'this is a radio hit' but it was like 'the melody is catchy, let's do things that would make it even catchier.'"

Jammin' Me

Mike Campbell, guitarist for The Heartbreakers, wrote the music for this and gave Petty the demo. Tom held it for a while and didn't do anything with it until one day when he was working with Bob Dylan. They came up with some lyrics by picking words out of a newspaper and off the television. Tom pulled out Mike's demo, and they inserted those words over the track.

Many of Petty's songs start as demos written by Campbell. Mike also wrote the tracks for Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer" and "The Heart Of The Matter," and helped Petty produce this album. (Check out our interview with Mike Campbell.)

In 1986, the band toured with Bob Dylan in Australia, New Zealand and Japan, which led to Dylan's contribution on this song. In 1988, Petty and Dylan played together in The Traveling Wilburys, a band whose other members were Jeff Lynne, George Harrison and Roy Orbison.

In the lyrics, Petty mentions various places and events that were in the news and getting constant media exposure. Actors Vanessa Redgrave, Joe Piscopo and Eddie Murphy also show up.

DJ Khaled enlisted the help of Jay Z as well as frequent collaborators Rick Ross, Meek Mill and French Montana for the lead single of his eighth studio album, I've Changed a Lot. "Every summer's mine," the Miami-based mogul said when he spoke to MTV News on April 28, 2014 to announce the song. "I'm the king of the anthems. It's been seven summers. Well now, it's gonna be eight summers. Summer's mine man."

Khaled is referring to previous posse cuts like 2007's "I'm So Hood" featuring T-Pain, Trick Daddy, Rick Ross and Plies, 2011†²s "I'm On One" with Drake, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne, and 2013†²s "No New Friends" featuring Drake, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne.

Sounds like Jay-z is taking a jab at Drake on his verse when he spits:

"Haters wanna ball, let me tighten up my draw string
Wrong sport, boy, you know you're as soft as a Lacrosse team."

Lacrosse is a sport that's popular in Canada and this appears to be a response to Drake's shot at the happily married Hova on his sports-metaphored freestyle "Draft Day" where he rapped:

"I'm focused on makin' records and gettin' bigger
Just hits, no misses
That's for the married folks."

The fact that the song was produced by Mike Zombie, who is part of Drake's rapper's OVO Sound crew and helmed the Toronto MC's "Started from the Bottom" hit tune, adds further weight to Jay's jab.

The single's cover art features Khaled clenching a gold chain between his gold grill-covered teeth. The artwork on Mississippi rapper Kolley's debut Mixtape, RNS, features a similar close-up of the rapper's face biting a gold chain, matching his gold grill. He accused the Miami producer of stealing the idea from his mixtape cover.

The Gil Green-directed video was filmed in several locations in Miami and features DJ Khaled, Meek Mill, French Montana and Rick Ross. Jay-Z does not physically appear in the clip, but Timbaland, Ace Hood and Internet star Lil Terio all make cameo appearances.

Here Comes My Girl

This was written the same week as "Refugee." Both songs started as demos written by Heartbreakers guitar player Mike Campbell on a 4-track recorder in his house.

In our interview with Mike Campbell, he explained: "'Here Comes My Girl' was interesting because we had the chorus and Tom wasn't sure how to do the verse, he kept trying to sing it different ways and he finally came across sort of half-talking it, and that's when the song seemed to come to life."

This was the first album the band released on a major label. Their first two albums came out on a small label called Shelter Records, which was acquired by MCA. After some legal maneuvering where Petty filed for bankruptcy and the label sued the band, MCA set up a label called Backstreet Records, which was dedicated to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. This didn't end the tension between Petty and MCA. Petty held back the tapes for their next album, Hard Promises, when MCA tried to raise the price from $8.98 to $9.98. Petty won that battle and the album came out at the lower price.

Solo Dancing

Nottingham-born singer-songwriter Indiana first got into music when her sister moved house but couldn't find room for her piano in her new place. Indiana offered to store it in her dining room and started playing around on the keys. She picked it up quite quickly and by 2010 was writing songs. By the end of the following year Indiana started concentrating on making a career as a recording artist and on February 17, 2013 she released her debut single "Bound."

The Nottingham native scored her first UK chart hit with this euphemistically-titled song in which she describes her penchant for dancing "to the bitter end" by herself.

The song's single release also contains three remixes by Chris Lake, Joe Goddard and KAOS.

Ostensibly a song about joyously dancing on your own, both Indiana's detached vocal delivery and the minimal, icy instrumentation make the listener question their assumptions about its meaning. "I write these songs that can appear to be love songs, and seem all nice and sweet," she told Billboard magazine. "But then you peel away that first layer and chip away at that exterior, and they're all dark and a little bit twisted, and a bit sinister … I'm quite an odd person anyway, but I think if I didn't write these songs, I'd probably be doing horrible stuff. I write these songs to save other people from things I might do."

Indiana wrote the song with John Beck and Steve Chrisanthou. She told Billboard that inspired by the synth-noir sound of Cliff Martinez's 2011 Drive soundtrack, the intention was to create "something more uptempo" than the tracks she'd previously released on YouTube, such as like "Bound," "Smoking Gun" and "Animal." "I've put out things prior to 'Solo Dancing' that I wrote after 'Solo Dancing,' so there has been a progression in songwriting, but I think 'Solo Dancing' was always going to be one of the strongest things I've written," she admitted. "In my head, it's still unfinished, because it was something that I couldn't quite draw a line underneath. I kept going back to it production-wise. The label loved it so much that they said, 'We need to take this now, you've got to stop.'"

John Beck and Steve Chrisanthou previous credits together include co-writing Corinne Bailey Rae's breakthrough hit tune "Put Your Records On" and Eliza Doolittle's single "Mr. Medicine."

Lunchbox

This is about a young boy who is bullied at school and immerses himself in rock music to drown the pain. It is somewhat autobiographical. The album was exploring the fears of the average middle-class, Christian, conservative, white trash family, and one of them is that their child will become a "Punk Rocker."

The single was released on January 24, 1995 - the band's second single that year, the first being "Sweet Dreams." It featured the album version of the song, as well as four remixes - "Next Motherf***er," "Brown Bag," "Metal" and "Highschool Dropouts" - and a cover of Gary Numan's "Down in the Park." Most of the remixes just changed the intros or sound bytes, and "Highschool Dropouts" was simply the radio edit which muted out the obscenities.

Manson wrote about lunchboxes in this song because in Florida, where he was living at the time, the schools had banned metal lunchboxes because the children were hitting each other in the head with them. Manson used to have a metal KISS lunchbox which he used to defend himself at school. (thanks, Phil - Rockville, MD)

The music video, which dramatized the song, featured the band singing near a roller rink. It was included on "Dead to the World".

There is a 1993 CD which features demos of the band performing this and several other songs while they were still called "The Spooky Kids." It is called "Demos In Lunchbox."

Kasabian songwriter and guitarist Serge Pizzorno explained to NME that this song is based on the late-night conversations that singer Tom Meighan and him have while on tour. He said: "It's more a conversation that me and Tom might have at five or six in the morning. Ridiculous rants when you think you're making the most amazing points, and the next morning you're like… what?"

"I was gonna call it 'Horsemeat' but I thought it was a bit ridiculous. But it's just a bit of a spit, really. There have been so many nights in hotel rooms when me and Tom will stay up all night talking and it's about that."

The song was named for the dialect of the band's home city, Leicester. Pizzorno wrote it after reading in the local paper that the Leicester accent was dying out.

Meighan said to NME of the heavy Electro banger's chorus: "It's a comic. Is cartoonish. It's punk. We've never done anything like it. It's trashy. It's dirty. It's Leicester."

The video was directed by fashion designer Aitor Throup and filmed in Black Island Studios, West London on April 16, 2014. Swedish actress Noomi Rapace (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Prometheus) cameos as a drummer. Vocalist Tom Meighan told Q magazine: "It's a tongue-in-cheek video.
