Fly To The Rainbow Lyrics

Life is empty, can't remember anytime before,
On a plain lit cold December, see it evermore,
Gliding through this life, and another is a child,
And we're doing games, and losing things,
Always playing gigs.

Somewhere in the sky, where the moon the stars shine bright,
Where the sun is shining, in the night.
I am in disgrace, yet I see a smiling face,
And I hope you let me, share your place.
I don't live today.

Rain in the sky , make the world fly,
Into time, beg me your time.
Sun in the sky, make the world fly,
Into time, beg me your time.

Rain in the sky , make the world fly,
Into time, beg me your time.
Sun in the sky, make the world fly,
Into time, beg me your time.

Rain in the sky , make the world fly,
Into time, beg me your time.
Sun in the sky, make the world fly,
Into time, beg me your time.

Well, I lived in magic solitude
Of cloudy-looking mountains
And a lake made out of crystal raindrops
Roaming through Space ten thousand years ago
I've seen the giant city of Atlantis
Sinking to eternal waves of darkness

Somewhere in the blue distance
Are those long-forgotten trees of yore
A broken violin floating alone in December
Darkness everywhere and nothing more.

Symbol, strange Symbol, Melancholy
Painting torrid colors to a sky of green
Candle breathing one night only
Far away, in chillness, bleak, unseen

Drifting galley, ghostlike shadow,
Sails rigged to catch and kill the Time
Echoes wandering down an endless meadow
To call the Thing
Sublime!

Fly To The Rainbow
  • After Michael Schenker left the Scorpions for UFO and Uli Roth took control of the lead guitar in The Scorpions, they reunited for this one song, which they wrote together.
  • The original version has an acoustic intro, but the Scorpions never played it live, possibly because it needs more the 2 guitarists. (thanks, Charles - Lebanon, for above 2)

    An Island Lyrics

They said this fun, is near the end
You've worn out welcome way too fast
    You'd better bite your tongue

    I need An Island
    And I need it fast
    Some little island
    Is all I ask

    Put, put you on
    Put, put you on

    Stay there don't move
    I think it's got fangs
    Watch if they turn
    Become the villains

    Are you allowed to know?
    Are we allowed to know?
    Are you allowed to know?

    Are you allowed to know?
    Are we allowed to know?
    Are you allowed to know?

    Just an island
    Is all I ask
    Some little island
    A spot to cast

    To put you on
    To put you on

    Force you to go

    Some little island
    One little island

To put you on (Some little island)
To put you on (One little island)
To put you on (To put you on, put you on, put you on)
To put you on (To pout you on, put you on, put you on)

    An Island
  • Chevelle wanted an industrial sensibility for this apocalyptic tune, which features electronic percussion. "My brother always swore off drum machines," laughed Pete Loeffler. "I wanted that fast, dark, and aggressive tone so I bought him an electronic drum kit as a compromise. We wrote in an industrial way, adding something else to what we normally would do."

Rikki Don't Lose That Number Lyrics

We hear you're leaving, that's OK
I thought our little wild time had just begun
I guess you kind of scared yourself, you turn and run
But if you have a change of heart

    [Chorus]
    Rikki Don't Lose That Number
You don't want to call nobody else
Send it off in a letter to yourself
    Rikki don't lose that number
It's the only one you own
You might use it if you feel better
    When you get home

I have a friend in town, he's heard your name
We can go out driving on Slow Hand Row
We could stay inside and play games, I don't know
And you could have a change of heart

    [Chorus]

You tell yourself you're not my kind
But you don't even know your mind
And you could have a change of heart

    [Chorus]

    Rikki Don't Lose That Number
  • The keyboard riff was taken from "Song For My Father," which was released in 1964 by Jazz composer and pianist Horace Silver. The opening of both songs is nearly identical. It's a good example of how Steely Dan used elements of jazz in pop songs.
  • According to a 2006 interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Rikki of the title is Rikki Ducornet, a New York writer and artist. Steely Dan co-front Donald Fagen had met her while both were attending Bard College, a small liberal arts college located in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. Ducornet says they met at a college party, and even though she was both pregnant and married at the time, he gave her his number, although not in the same context as the song. Ducornet was intrigued by Fagen and tempted to call him, but she decided against it. A complete write-up of this incident is at ew.com , and it kind of sounds like it came straight out of a Doonesbury strip.
  • This is Steely Dan's highest-ever charting single, reaching #4 on the Hot 100 in 1974. The B-side was "Any Major Dude Will Tell You."
  • Frank Zappa fans of course have a different context for this song. Go to your CD collection and get out You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore (volume 2), select Disc 2, and play Track 2: "Dupree's Paradise."

Zappa sings a couple of joke lines from "Rikki Don't Lose That Number," with a hilarious deadpan. It's just after the bass-player rant and just before Frank makes another crack about Suzi Quatro cassettes. Zappa and his gang around this time frequently commented on whatever music was popular at the moment.
  • Speaking on the subject of playing their hit songs in concert, Donald Fagen told Rolling Stone in 2013: "Walter and I aren't fond of 'Rikki Don't Lose That Number.' It's not a bad song. I think it's 'well-written,' but it's so simple. I just have listening fatigue. It's been played so much. Same with 'Reeling in the Years.'"
  • The beginning of this song features a flapamba, a rare and unusual instrument that is a variant of a marimba. Although the introduction, played by British jazz musician Victor Feldman, was cut from the original ABC single version, the MCA single reissue restored the flapamba intro but fades out just before the actual end of the track. (thanks, Annabelle - Eugene, OR)
  • Jeff "Skunk" Baxter played the guitar solo on this track. Baxter, who joined the Doobie Brothers in 1975, later became a consultant in the audio industry and also leant his technical expertise to the defense industry.
  • John Mahoney sings part of this song in the movie Say Anything... when he finds out his daughter is accepted into a prestigious study program.

I think you and I shouldn't leave right out that door
The Damned can have what we have built
We'll go sneaking out at night to see what we need

    How wrong were they
    Took a moment to believe
    How tricked was I
    I never want to leave

Coursing through these veins I'm locked on you
I've chose to join this zombie zoo
Oh, and never could I've known I'd crave a bite quite so much

    Hey
    How wrong were they
    Took a moment to believe
    How tricked was I
    I never want to leave

    Hey!
    Hey!
    Hey!
    Hey!

    How wrong was I
    Took a moment to believe
    How tricked were we
    I never want to leave

    Knew what we wanted
    And had to go

    Knew what we wanted

    The Damned
  • This zombie song was inspired by such horror TV shows and movies as The Walking Dead, Rosemary's Baby and the original Friday The 13th series. "I've always liked horror films," said frontman Pete Loeffler. "Watching them is like riding a roller coaster. Your heart rate goes up, and that's perfect for our music.
  • The album title is Spanish for 'The Gargoyle.' "I talk about so many dark subjects on the album," said Pete Loeffler. "That's why the album title fits. A gargoyle is a very creepy and cool creature for what it means and depicts. These mythical demons are so fascinating because it's actually socially acceptable to put them on the corner of buildings!"

Insane am I the only motherfucker with a brain?
I'm hearing voices, but all they do is complain
How many time have you wanted to kill
Everything and everyone say you'll do it but never will

You can't see California without Marlon Brando's eyes

    I am my father son
Cause hes a phantom, a mystery, and that leaves me nothing!
How many times have you wanted to die?
Its too late for me all you have to do is get rid of me

    It's all in your head
    It's all in my head
    It's all in my head

I tried you lied to me for so long
Everywhere I go, there's a sense of it
Freak on my antics and give me a choice
Doesn't matter if I give a shit its the shit that you gave me

    Do you wanna feel pain?
    Takin' my name in vain
Caring never felt so lame inside
    Anybody else got pride?
Do you wanna take my life?
    Maybe I'll reverse my ride
Who the fuck are you? Fuck you!
Better suck it up 'cause you bled through
    Better get away from me
Stay the fuck away from me

I feel safe seems you're saved

  • The opener for Here and Nowhere Else, this song also serves as a mission statement for Cloud Nothings. Frontman Dylan Baldi told Radio.com that this is his favorite track from the album, "because it's been kicking around in my head for such a long time, that guitar riff that I didn't know what to do with. At one point, it was almost like a country song when I had no idea what I was doing."
  • Baldi told Cleveland Scene that he wrote the song on "this crappy classical acoustic guitar that I borrowed from my girlfriend's friend."

He added: "I started writing it in Paris. I like writing on stuff that's hard to play. It's an extra limitation. I can play guitar but I like to have something to struggle against to get a different sound."
  • The song's music video was directed by chillwave pioneer Toro Y Moi's touring guitarist Jordan Blackmon. The clip splices footage found in Los Angeles' Cinefile video store with clips of Toro Y Moi's bassist Patrick Jeffords walking around various LA locations wearing a suit and paper mache head. According to Blackmon, the visual is meant to emphasize the philosophical dilemma of "identity and ego-birth/death."

    Take these plastic people
Read their lips, now let it linger
Is there anything that makes them sound sincere?
    Tightly hold your hand
Take a deep breath, give them the finger
    Are you worried
That your thoughts are not quite clear?
    (Twitch)
    Overlooked, unfit appearance

    I remember falling
    I remember marching
    Like a One Man Army
    Through the blaze
    I know I'm coughing
    I believe in something
I don't want to remember falling
    For your lies

    Unbutton your clothes
Undress your soul, show them your vigor
Are those inhibitions easiest to fear?
    Take this gasoline tin
Head up high, walk like a winner
Let the bare feet be the last sound that they hear

    (Twitch)
    Overlooked, unfit appearance

    I remember falling
    I remember marching
    Like a one man army
    Through the blaze

  • This song finds Dylan Baldi screaming "swallow." Radio.com asked the vocalist how many times he had to scream to get it right. Baldi replied: "That's all like first take stuff. Yeah, my voice can just do that stuff like endlessly."

"But, the reason I chose 'swallow,' which honestly, has nothing to do with the song, is because my girlfriend is French and I asked her what her favorite English word was, because I wanted to repeat one word over and over and didn't know what to say," he continued. "She said it was 'swallow' so I was like, 'Alright, I'll just say the word "swallow."' Yeah, it ended up sounding good. It does sound pained. But it didn't hurt."

Hide the telephone in case, you realize that sometimes you're not okay

    There's nothing strange about this
You need to know your friends
I'll be waving my hand watching you drown
    Watching you scream
    Quiet or loud
    Maybe you should sleep
Maybe you just need a friend
    As Clumsy as you've been
    There's no one laughing
You will be safe in here
Throw away this very old shoelace that tripped you again

    Clumsy
  • Lead singer Raine Maida said: "There's a connection between the song 'Clumsy' and it being the title of the album. There's a line in the song that says: 'I'll be waving my hand/watching you drown/watching you scream', it's about seeing something but not seeing it for what it really is. It's about decisions. That image of 'waving your hand/watching you drown,' is about seeing someone in the water, they're waving at you, and you're just waving back, not realizing that they're drowning. Or you think they're drowning, but they're just waving at you. It's those weird situations where you just take something at face value, but you can be so wrong. You have to look deeper and question things. I think it's something that too many people don't do these days. We're so inundated with the f--king media, and you just believe it. How many times, not just to focus on us, have we read an interview or an article where we've been completely misquoted? We're just some small band, when you think about some of the major players and you really have to question how true it all is." (thanks, Chrissy - Vancouver, Canada)
  • In 2012, Our Lady Peace lead singer Raine Maida told us that this song still felt important to him, even though it was over 15 years old. Maida elaborated by stating, "I have to say, for whatever reason, most of the stuff that I've written about seems to still have a lot of relevance to me."

Maida says he's asked all the time whether or not he gets sick of playing the same hit songs (such as "Clumsy") over and over again. The answer is always a defiant "No." Maida explained, "There are songs that we'll never play just because they don't feel relevant; they don't feel authentic to us, which is fine, because I think every band probably has some of those songs. But we're not one of those bands that aren't going to play one of our hit singles just to spite people or whatever. That's just not in our thinking. We don't operate that way. So we're lucky, I guess."
  • Our Lady Peace frontman Raine Maida said performing the Clumsy album in its entirety on tour in 2010 seemed "a little scattered to me." Maida says there were a few songs on that album where he felt OLP missed the mark, but added "But hey, that's life, you know?"

  • Faul & Wad Ad is a French House duo comprising DJs Maxime, who records under the pseudonym of Faul, and Wad Ad, the stage name of Camil Meyer. The pair first met at their Parisian school and started to produce music in between their studies.

Pnau is an Australian dance act, consisting of vocalist Nick Littlemore - best known for being one half of Empire of the Sun ("We Are The People") - and guitarist Peter Mayes. In 2012, Pnau released Good Morning to the Night, a collaborative record with Sir Elton John, which gave the knighted star his first #1 album in the UK for over two decades.
  • Faul & Wad Ad came across Pnau's 2008 single "Baby," which samples a children's choir and was a Top 40 hit for the pair in Australia. The Parisian duo put their deep house style spin on it and placed their adaptation online. They titled the new tune "Changes" and credited both the French and Australian sides of the creative process in equal measure. The track went on to become an international hit topping the German singles chart and reaching the Top Ten in many other European countries.

But how much can you fake
An ordinary boy an ordinary name
But ordinary's just not good enough today

    We'll just laugh instead

You worry about the weather and
Whether or not you should hate
Are you worried about your faith
    Kneel down and obey
    You're happy you're in love
    You need someone to hate
An ordinary girl an ordinary waist
But ordinary's just not good enough today

    Superman's Dead
  • In 1997, Our Lady Peace frontman Raine Maida wrote this song about how hard it is to be a kid growing up surrounded by media, TV images, and outside pressures to look or feel a certain way. When we caught up with Maida in 2012, he thought the song felt more relevant than ever before. Maida explained, "That's probably the genius of that song, not by any part on me, but just the fact that I think the trend has gotten even tougher for kids these days. It seems that if you talk about the world going faster, my analogy back then was the subway. Now it's like we've hit light speed with ADD and the technology. I mean, just to stay focused for 20 minutes, I can hardly do it. You're just inundated. Our senses are on overload, for sure."
  • Lead singer Raine Maida said of this song: "It's just about how hard it is for kids to grow up today. They're inundated with the media and images and cliques they try to have to fit into. Two images that are really strong for me lyrically are 'Ordinary's just not good enough today' and when I think of kids today, I would never think of a group of eight year olds going out to a baseball park and throwing the ball around. It doesn't happen anymore. I have a nine year old brother; he's either inside playing Nintendo or staying up late on a school night to watch Beavis And Butthead. And you juxtapose that against the old Superman, on the black and white series. He was also a real hero, good values, strong willed, a gentleman, but I think Beavis And Butthead wins today." I stand here face to face
With someone that I used to know
He used to look at me and laugh

    But now he claims
That he's known me for so very long
But I remember being no one

I wanted to be just like you
    So perfect, so untouchable
Now you want me to be with you
Someone who used to have it all

    [Chorus]
    Do you remember now?
You acted like you never noticed me
    Forget it
Cause the gone has come around
You're not allowed to be a part of me

    Did you know me?
    Or were you too preoccupied
With playing king in your new kingdom
    And now the real world
Has stripped you of your royalty
And from your kingdom you're evicted

I wanted to be just like you
    So perfect, so untouchable
Now you want me to be with you
Someone who used to have it all

    [Chorus]

  • This is about a "friend" lead singer Doug Robb had back in high school. Doug has said that he had his own group of friends and if he went back now, his teachers wouldn't recognize him. This song, however, is about a person who won't give you the time of day, but when you make it big and become famous, would be more than happy to hang out with you. (thanks, Austin - Collierville, TN)
