Digital Bath Lyrics

You move like I want to
To see like your eyes do
We are downstairs where
No one can see
New life break away
Tonight I feel like more
Tonight I
You make the water warm
You taste foreign
And I know you can see
The cord break away
'Cause tonight I feel like more
Tonight I feel like more
Tonight I feel
Feel like more
You breathed
Then you stopped
I breathed then dried you off
And tonight
I feel like more
Tonight

Digital Bath
  • Lead singer Chino Moreno wrote this song thinking about a sexual fantasy he had about luring a girl into a bath, electrocuting her, then dressing her back up.
  • Chino: "It was probably 5 in the morning - we were still up partying - and I just pictured this whole scenario of having this girl, bringing her downstairs and taking a bath and like, out of nowhere, just reaching back and electrocuting -- basically throwing some kind of electrical device in the bathtub and then taking her out of the bath and drying her off and putting her clothes back on."
  • This song was recorded live at KXTE's back patio in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2000. In the liner notes of the Deftones B-Sides And Rarities album, bassist Chi Cheng wrote: "This was recorded in the blistering Vegas heat at peak hangover time, early afternoon. It was a small, intimate deal, and I was glad we got to do this song stripped down, because I always hoped it would translate as well as it did." (thanks, Tim - PGH, PA, for above 3)

Whose arms do you go into?
Whose arms do you go into?
    Whose arms?
What time are you hanging around?
Your face is all over the place

Good grief, by the skin of your teeth
You should've looked a little hotter last week
Trust you to be tripping out
Trust you to be tripping out
Trust you, trust you, trust you

    Hoochie Coochie
    Hoochie coochie

What game are you playing now?
What game are you playing now?
    What game?
Whose car are you riding in?
I doubt you'll even gonna begin to feel

Hot damn, going off for the race
Click clock and then you got him in back so good
Trust you to be tripping out
Trust you to be tripping out
Trust you, trust you, trust you

    Hoochie coochie

Come on, baby, when are you gonna call it a night?

I'd cut off both your wings on principle alone
    On principle alone

    Hey Megalomaniac
    You're no Jesus
    Yeah, you're no fucking Elvis
    Special, as you know yourself
Baby, just step down, step down

    If I were your appendages

There was never meant to be only one
    To be only one

    Megalomaniac
  • Megalomaniac means self-exaltation, and to be crazy for big things. The song is about power crazed people and their destructive behavior. (thanks, Katt - England)
  • The video had lots of images of famous megalomaniacs, including Hitler and George Bush. For a while, MTV refused to show it except late at night. MTV was under a lot of pressure after Janet Jackson bared her breast at the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, which they produced. They responded by banishing this and 6 other potentially offensive videos to late rotation, but this was the only one deemed offensive for political reasons - the others had too much sex. MTV eventually started playing this during the day, but before they did, guitarist Mike Einziger said, "It's ironic that this MTV scrutiny comes from an incident where someone bared their chest in public, while for the first time, our singer has his shirt on for an entire video."
  • Lead singer Brandon Boyd: "Lyrically speaking I know that there were a lot of things going on in and around the world and there were some very specific people in my mind coming dangerously close to having megalomaniacal tendencies and so I did my best to write those thoughts down." (thanks, Tim - Pittsburgh, PA)

    Nightmares Lyrics

I was afraid of coming undone
Being a burden, being a son
I was afraid of the look in my eye
The tears on your face in the desolate night

'Cause when you're afraid of everything
Everything is a start for Nightmares
    Nightmares, nightmares, nightmares
    Oh, oh, oh, oh

If I die tomorrow, would you be upset?
Or would be the one coming to get me?
Fallin' by the wind side of the never changing
    So tell me it's alright

If you can reason, if you can stay
To put all the faith in the palm of my hand
I will protect you, I will defend
It never gets you ever again

'Cause when you're afraid of everything
Everything is a start for nightmares
    Nightmares, nightmares, nightmares
    Oh, oh, oh, oh

If I die tomorrow, would you be upset?
Or would be the one coming to get me?
Fallin' by the wind side of the never changing
    So tell me it's alright

    Maybe I'm just dreaming
    Maybe I was wrong
    Maybe I was right
'Cause I can't imagine distances in our faiths
    Is there any?

  • Guitarist and co-vocalist Russell Marsden came up with this song. Bassist Emma Richardson explained to Tonedeaf : "He had this idea about having a fear of everything, you know, which seems kind of an apt topic for culture today and anxiousness in general with people being anxious about the state of the world and what's happening."

"It's got a different atmosphere to a lot of the songs we've written before," she added, "we were writing it and rehearsing it and it puts you in a certain mood when you play it.''

    Shame On The Moon Lyrics

Until you've been beside a man
You don't know what he wants
You don't know if he cries at night
You don't know if he don't
Where nothing comes easy, old nightmares are real
Until you've been beside a man
You don't know how he feels

    Once inside a woman's heart
A man must keep his head
    Heaven opens up the door
    Where angels fear to tread
Some men go crazy, some men go slow
Some men go just where they want
    Some men never go

    Oh, blame it on midnight
    Ooh, Shame On The Moon

    Everywhere is all around
    Comfort in the crowd
    Stranger's faces all round
    Laughing right out loud
    Hey, watch where you're goin'
    Step light on old toes
Until you've been beside a man
You don't know who he knows

    Oh, blame it on midnight
    Ooh, shame on the moon
    Oh, blame it on midnight
    Ooh, shame on the moon
    Blame it on midnight

  • This was inspired by Ernest Hemingway's book The Sun Also Rises. Bass player and co-vocalist Emma Richardson explained to Tonedeaf : "It just really got me, it's only a short novel but it's got a real atmosphere too it. It really transports you to Spain and that scene in the 20s you know, of people with a lot of money, just wondering around and you know just having an amazing social life basically."

"They go to this bullfight in the book and the way he describes it is brilliant and it made me really wanna go and see one for myself just to see what it actually felt like so," she continued. "I guess it's kinda loosely based on that experience but it has that Spanish feel too it I think.''
  • Ernest Miller Hemingway (1899 - 1961) was an American author and journalist whose style of simple sentences attracted many imitators. His life of adventure and love of big game hunting and fishing all added to his macho public image. Here are some more songs inspired by the life and works of Hemingway.

"Mrs. Hemingway" by Mary Chapin Carpenter. About the author's first wife, Hadley Richardson Hemingway.

"Hemingway's Whiskey" by Kenny Chesney. This song about living life to its fullest without compromising is a theme that many of Hemingway's novels revolved around.

"For Whom The Bell Tolls" by Metallica. Based on Hemingway's novel of the same name.

"Losing It" by Rush. The band's drummer and lyricist Neil Peart is an enthusiastic reader of Hemingway and this song refers to the author and his novels, The Sun Also Rises and For Whom the Bell Tolls.

"I Am Disappeared" by Frank Turner. The song finds the English singer-songwriter crooning about having dreams involving Bob Dylan, Patti Hearst and Ernest Hemingway.

"Islands in the Stream" by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. The song title came from an Ernest Hemingway story which was published posthumously in 1970.

    Fly To The Rainbow Lyrics

Life is empty, can't remember anytime before,
On a plain lit cold December, see it evermore,
Gliding through this life, and another is a child,
And we're doing games, and losing things,
    Always playing gigs.

Somewhere in the sky, where the moon the stars shine bright,
Where the sun is shining, in the night.
I am in disgrace, yet I see a smiling face,
And I hope you let me, share your place.
    I don't live today.

Rain in the sky , make the world fly,
Into time, beg me your time.
Sun in the sky, make the world fly,
Into time, beg me your time.

Rain in the sky , make the world fly,
Into time, beg me your time.
Sun in the sky, make the world fly,
Into time, beg me your time.

Rain in the sky , make the world fly,
Into time, beg me your time.
Sun in the sky, make the world fly,
Into time, beg me your time.

Well, I lived in magic solitude
    Of cloudy-looking mountains
And a lake made out of crystal raindrops
Roaming through Space ten thousand years ago
I've seen the giant city of Atlantis
Sinking to eternal waves of darkness

    Somewhere in the blue distance
Are those long-forgotten trees of yore
A broken violin floating alone in December
    Darkness everywhere and nothing more.

    Symbol, strange Symbol, Melancholy
Painting torrid colors to a sky of green
    Candle breathing one night only
Far away, in chillness, bleak, unseen

    Drifting galley, ghostlike shadow,
Sails rigged to catch and kill the Time
Echoes wandering down an endless meadow
    To call the Thing
    Sublime!

  • Chevelle wanted an industrial sensibility for this apocalyptic tune, which features electronic percussion. "My brother always swore off drum machines," laughed Pete Loeffler. "I wanted that fast, dark, and aggressive tone so I bought him an electronic drum kit as a compromise. We wrote in an industrial way, adding something else to what we normally would do."

Rikki Don't Lose That Number Lyrics

We hear you're leaving, that's OK
I thought our little wild time had just begun
I guess you kind of scared yourself, you turn and run
But if you have a change of heart

    [Chorus]
    Rikki Don't Lose That Number
You don't want to call nobody else
Send it off in a letter to yourself
    Rikki don't lose that number
It's the only one you own
You might use it if you feel better
    When you get home

I have a friend in town, he's heard your name
We can go out driving on Slow Hand Row
We could stay inside and play games, I don't know
And you could have a change of heart

    [Chorus]

You tell yourself you're not my kind
But you don't even know your mind
And you could have a change of heart

    [Chorus]

    Rikki Don't Lose That Number
  • The keyboard riff was taken from "Song For My Father," which was released in 1964 by Jazz composer and pianist Horace Silver. The opening of both songs is nearly identical. It's a good example of how Steely Dan used elements of jazz in pop songs.
  • According to a 2006 interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Rikki of the title is Rikki Ducornet, a New York writer and artist. Steely Dan co-front Donald Fagen had met her while both were attending Bard College, a small liberal arts college located in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. Ducornet says they met at a college party, and even though she was both pregnant and married at the time, he gave her his number, although not in the same context as the song. Ducornet was intrigued by Fagen and tempted to call him, but she decided against it. A complete write-up of this incident is at ew.com , and it kind of sounds like it came straight out of a Doonesbury strip.
  • This is Steely Dan's highest-ever charting single, reaching #4 on the Hot 100 in 1974. The B-side was "Any Major Dude Will Tell You."
  • Frank Zappa fans of course have a different context for this song. Go to your CD collection and get out You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore (volume 2), select Disc 2, and play Track 2: "Dupree's Paradise."

Zappa sings a couple of joke lines from "Rikki Don't Lose That Number," with a hilarious deadpan. It's just after the bass-player rant and just before Frank makes another crack about Suzi Quatro cassettes. Zappa and his gang around this time frequently commented on whatever music was popular at the moment.
  • Speaking on the subject of playing their hit songs in concert, Donald Fagen told Rolling Stone in 2013: "Walter and I aren't fond of 'Rikki Don't Lose That Number.' It's not a bad song. I think it's 'well-written,' but it's so simple. I just have listening fatigue. It's been played so much. Same with 'Reeling in the Years.'"
  • The beginning of this song features a flapamba, a rare and unusual instrument that is a variant of a marimba. Although the introduction, played by British jazz musician Victor Feldman, was cut from the original ABC single version, the MCA single reissue restored the flapamba intro but fades out just before the actual end of the track. (thanks, Annabelle - Eugene, OR)
  • Jeff "Skunk" Baxter played the guitar solo on this track. Baxter, who joined the Doobie Brothers in 1975, later became a consultant in the audio industry and also leant his technical expertise to the defense industry.
  • John Mahoney sings part of this song in the movie Say Anything... when he finds out his daughter is accepted into a prestigious study program.

  • This zombie song was inspired by such horror TV shows and movies as The Walking Dead, Rosemary's Baby and the original Friday The 13th series. "I've always liked horror films," said frontman Pete Loeffler. "Watching them is like riding a roller coaster. Your heart rate goes up, and that's perfect for our music.
  • The album title is Spanish for 'The Gargoyle.' "I talk about so many dark subjects on the album," said Pete Loeffler. "That's why the album title fits. A gargoyle is a very creepy and cool creature for what it means and depicts. These mythical demons are so fascinating because it's actually socially acceptable to put them on the corner of buildings!"

Insane am I the only motherfucker with a brain?

How many time have you wanted to kill
Everything and everyone say you'll do it but never will

You can't see California without Marlon Brando's eyes

    I am my father son
Cause hes a phantom, a mystery, and that leaves me nothing!
How many times have you wanted to die?
Its too late for me all you have to do is get rid of me

    It's all in your head
    It's all in my head
    It's all in my head

I tried you lied to me for so long
Everywhere I go, there's a sense of it
Freak on my antics and give me a choice
Doesn't matter if I give a shit its the shit that you gave me

    Do you wanna feel pain?
    Takin' my name in vain
Caring never felt so lame inside
    Anybody else got pride?
Do you wanna take my life?
    Maybe I'll reverse my ride
Who the fuck are you? Fuck you!
Better suck it up 'cause you bled through
    Better get away from me
Stay the fuck away from me

    Now Hear In
  • The opener for Here and Nowhere Else, this song also serves as a mission statement for Cloud Nothings. Frontman Dylan Baldi told Radio.com that this is his favorite track from the album, "because it's been kicking around in my head for such a long time, that guitar riff that I didn't know what to do with. At one point, it was almost like a country song when I had no idea what I was doing."
  • Baldi told Cleveland Scene that he wrote the song on "this crappy classical acoustic guitar that I borrowed from my girlfriend's friend."

He added: "I started writing it in Paris. I like writing on stuff that's hard to play. It's an extra limitation. I can play guitar but I like to have something to struggle against to get a different sound."
  • The song's music video was directed by chillwave pioneer Toro Y Moi's touring guitarist Jordan Blackmon. The clip splices footage found in Los Angeles' Cinefile video store with clips of Toro Y Moi's bassist Patrick Jeffords walking around various LA locations wearing a suit and paper mache head. According to Blackmon, the visual is meant to emphasize the philosophical dilemma of "identity and ego-birth/death."
