Strange Ways Lyrics

Well, it's a strange way
The way you look at me
And it's a hard time
Time you been givin' me
Come on and open up
Open up to me
So you can realize
That I could set you free

Strange Ways, twisted days
Strange ways, twisted days

Well, it's a strange place
That you've been livin' in
And it's a strange line
You've been deliverin'
I think I like it
But I'm not really sure
Don't wanna to fight it
Just wanna feel some more

Strange ways, twisted days
Strange ways, twisted days

Strange ways, twisted days
Strange ways, twisted days

Strange Ways
  • Ace Frehley: "I love 'Strange Ways.' I just came up with the riff. It was one of those inspired, heavy tunes. I didn't feel comfortable as a singer at that point. Gene and Paul are very intimidating people. A lot of the time they tend to make people feel inadequate. It took me a while to get over my feeling of inadequacy. I didn't think I was as good a singer as I am. It took me a while to come out of my shell. Whenever I wrote songs in the early days, I'd always ask Peter (drummer Peter Criss) to sing so he would get some of the spotlight. I wasn't that secure with myself as a singer around Gene, Paul and Peter. They were all confident lead singers and even though I knew I could sing, they didn't encourage it, so, I just kind of laid back. 'Strange Ways' was never performed live by KISS. I had forgotten just how heavy it was. One of my favorite guitar solos is the one on 'Strange Ways'. It was done in one take. I just closed my eyes and that's what came out. Usually, I record in the control room, but for that solo I went out and stood in front of the amp and got that wild feedback bend at the beginning. It sounded like a dinosaur."
  • Peter Criss: "Ace wrote it and I sang it. It was really different for me, really heavy and new. I'd never sung anything like it, it wasn't exactly R&B. It was a great challenge to me and I loved it." (thanks, Ken - LaSalle, Canada, for above 2)

    Album: Electric Universe

    Magnetic Lyrics

    No self-control
A chain reaction as my body lets go
    A strange kind of light
The tempo takes me and the circuit excites

    It's Magnetic
The rhythm of a dangerous dance
    Let's dance in the static
Suck you in twice as fast
    Magnetic
The rhythm of a dangerous dance
    Let's dance in the static
Suck you in, you'll never last

    Step into the light
    Make the spark ignite
    Step into the light tonight

    No place to hide
I keep on runnin' but I'm falling behind
    A new kind of beat
It takes your mind, then it takes your feet

    It's magnetic
The rhythm of a dangerous dance
    Let's dance in the static
Suck you in twice as fast
    Magnetic
The rhythm of a dangerous dance
    Let's dance in the static
Suck you in, you'll never last

    Are we making contact tonight?
    Don't break the circuit
    I'll be making contact tonight
    Don't break the circuit

    Magnetic
  • This song is about a groove so attractive, it pulls you toward it like a magnet. It's one of the few Earth, Wind & Fire songs the band had no part in writing. They were looking to shift toward a more modern, electronic sound at the time, and called in Martin Page to help. Page, who is from England, had written a song for his group Q-Feel called "Dancing In Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop)," which EW&F mainman Maurice White liked. White asked for something with a similar sound, and Page - who is a huge fan of the band - was happy to comply.

"I quickly ran down the road to a little electrical shop and bought a Fostex 8-track," Page told us . "I tried to emulate the groove of 'Dancing in Heaven,' because I knew that appealed to him. And I wanted to create something that had a mysterious lyric to it, but sounded very contemporary. Earth, Wind & Fire had this magical sense of rhythmic vocals. You didn't have to know what they were singing about, you just had to feel where their syncopations happened."
  • In the late '70s, Earth, Wind & Fire made a successful transition into disco, but their journey into '80s electronica was poorly received. "Magnetic" was the biggest hit from the Electric Universe album, which was recorded while the band was falling apart. Maurice White went solo after it came out, releasing a self-titled album in 1985. The group got back together in 1987 with their album Touch the World.
  • If Earth, Wind & Fire were ever going to be video stars, this is the one that would have done it. The post-apocalyptic clip features futuristic gladiator battles that look like a cross between RoboCop and Tron. The band had been making videos since 1977, but never got much interest from MTV, which fancied themselves a rock network when they started in 1981 and gave almost no airplay to black artists until Michael Jackson broke through on the network. "Magnetic" was also ignored by MTV, although the clip has since gained a following on YouTube.

    I Stole Your Love Lyrics

    Alright
I remember the day that we met
I needed someone, you needed someone too, yeah
Spend time takin' all you could get
Givin' yourself was one thing you never could do

You played with my heart, played with my head
I got to laugh when I think of the things you said

'Cause I Stole Your Love, stole your love
Ain't never gonna let you go
I, oh yeah, stole your love, I stole your love
Stole your love, I stole your love

    You never stop runnin' around
You pick me up, then you could still put me down
You were the girl that nobody could own
Stay for a while, then you would leave me alone

I'm somethin' different, ain't like the rest
How does it feel to find out you're failin' your test

'Cause I stole your love, stole your love
Ain't never gonna let you go
I, I, stole your love, I stole your love
Stole your love, I stole your love
    Guitar

Listen, I stole your love, stole your love
Ain't never gonna let you go
I, I, stole your love, I stole your love
Stole your love, I stole your love
I stole your love, stole your love
I stole your love, stole your love
    I stole your love, oh
I, oh yeah, stole your love, I stole your love
Stole your love, I stole your love
I, oh yeah, stole your love,
Oh yeah, stole your love, alright

    I Stole Your Love
  • Paul Stanley: "'I Stole Your Love' came quickly. It was kind of a sister song to 'Love Gun,' so it came around the same time. Again, swagger and attitude. That song was influenced in some ways by the Deep Purple song 'Burn.' There's an old standard called 'Fascinating Rhythm' which is what 'Burn' is based on. The songs I was writing at the time were of a certain type. I was trying to get closer to the things I liked in British bands that were my influences. And then, interestingly, once you had KISS play it, the song took off in a different direction because of the perspective of the players in KISS. So, if I had done those songs a hundred percent my way, they would have sounded more similar to those influences. That's the beauty of being in a band, each person brings their own perspective and takes it some place you might not." (thanks, Ken - LaSalle, Canada)

    Mighty Mighty Lyrics

Walk around, why wear a frown
Say little people, try to put you down
What you need, is a helpin' hand
All the strength, at your command

How's ya faith? 'Cause ya faith is you
Who you kiddin', to yourself be true
Spread ya love, for a brighter day
For what ya search, you'll find a way

We are people, of the mighty
    Mighty people of the sun
In our heart lies all the answers
To the truth you can't run from

    Eagle flies, every seven days
Still cryin the blues, all about ya pay
What ya gonna do? 'Bout your living thang
Will ya make it better, or just complain

Everyday is real, don't run from fear
'Cause better days are very near
There are times when you are bound to cry
One more time, head to the sky

We are people, of the mighty
    Mighty people of the sun
In our heart lies all the answers
To the truth you can't run from

We are people, of the mighty

    Mighty Mighty
  • With the chorus line, "We are people, of the mighty, mighty people of the sun," this is one of the more spiritual Earth, Wind & Fire songs. "There are certain aspects which have to be kept clean, things that relate directly to the Creator," Maurice White told Blues & Soul in 1975. "By adopting a totally positive approach to our life, we can reflect this in our music."

Many of EW&F's most upbeat songs are also their most meaningful, the idea being that celebration through music can bring us to a higher power.
  • Maurice White wrote this song with his younger brother/bass player Verdine. The song, which was the lead single from the band's fifth album, became their biggest hit to this point.
  • According to Verdine White, many radio stations refused to play this song because they thought it was about black power.
  • The band recorded the Open Our Eyes album at Caribou Ranch Studios in Colorado. A big influence on their sound was Charles Stepney, who co-produced the band with Maurice White until Stepney's death in 1976.

Regarding the recording of this song, Verdine White told us : "I remember we just got into a groove, man. We just got into it. You know what I mean? That was one of our favorite songs to record and play."

    Against The Wind Lyrics

    It seems like yesterday
    But it was long ago
Janey was lovely she was the queen of my nights
There in the darkness with the radio playing low, and
And the secrets that we shared
    The mountains that we moved
Caught like a wildfire out of control
'Til there was nothing left to burn and nothing left to prove
And I remember what she said to me
How she swore that it never would end
I remember how she held me oh-so-tight
Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

    Against The Wind
We were runnin' against the wind
We were young and strong, we were runnin' against the wind

    The years rolled slowly past
    And I found myself alone
Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends
I found myself further and further from my home, and I
    Guess I lost my way
    There were oh-so-many roads
I was living to run and running to live
Never worried about paying or even how much I owed
Moving eight miles a minute for months at a time
Breaking all of the rules that would bend
I began to find myself searching
Searching for shelter again and again

    Against the wind
A little something against the wind
I found myself seeking shelter against the wind

Well those drifter's days are past me now
I've got so much more to think about
    Deadlines and commitments
What to leave in, what to leave out

    Against the wind
I'm still runnin' against the wind
I'm older now but still runnin' against the wind
Well I'm older now and still runnin'
    Against the wind
    Against the wind
    Against the wind

    Still runnin' (against the wind)
I'm still runnin' against the wind
(Against the wind) I'm still runnin'
    (Against the wind)
I'm still runnin' against the wind
    (Against the wind) still runnin'
(Against the wind)runnin' against the wind, runnin' against the wind
(Against the wind) see the young man run
(Against the wind) watch the young man run
(Against the wind) watch the young man runnin'
(Against the wind) he'll be runnin' against the wind
(Against the wind) let the cowboys ride
    (Against the wind) aah
(Against the wind) let the cowboys ride
(Against the wind) they'll be ridin' against the wind
(Against the wind) against the wind

    Against The Wind
  • Seger said of this song: "My old friend Glenn Frey of the Eagles had an idea that our guitarist Drew Abbott should play along with the piano solo. He and I then went out and did the background vocals together. The line 'Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then' bothered me for the longest time, but everyone I knew loved it so I left it in. It has since appeared in several hits by other artists, so I guess it's OK."

Seger later clarified: "The only thing that bothered me about that phrase was the grammar. It sounded grammatically funny to me. I kept asking myself, 'Is that correct grammar?' I liked the line, and everybody I played it for – like Glenn and Don (Henley) – were saying, 'That's the best line in the song,' but I couldn't shake the feeling that it wasn't right. But I slowly came around. You have to understand that songwriters can't punctuate anything they write. I work in such a narrow medium that I tend to second-guess things like that. As a matter of fact, I've seen that line in a few other songs since I came up with it, so I guess it was okay after all."
  • Seger won the 1980 Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal Grammy award for this song.
  • The Highwaymen, a country supergroup consisting of Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, remade this song for their debut album. (thanks, Danny - Waterville, NY)

Hope You Get Lonely Tonight Lyrics

I could go for a tipsy tailgate kiss,
Baby taste the moonshinin' off of your lips,
I want to see that want ya smile,
Still got me hooked been hooked for awhile.
If you got a bottle you ain't opened yet,
And an empty spot beside ya in ya bed,
If you got some room for a little regret,
Let me know girl I've already left

If you're feelin' what I'm feelin' let's mix it up,
You got my number baby hit me up,
If you need a little late night pick me up,
I, Hope You Get Lonely Tonight,
We ain't gotta make up just kiss me,
We could straight up blame it on the whiskey,
You ain't gotta wake up and miss me, no,
I hope you get lonely tonight

I don't care if you're spinnin' in the neon,
Or burnin' up the sheets with my tee on,
Either way the thought is turning me on,
And I can't shake it girl I'm wide awake, so

If you're feelin' what I'm feelin' let's mix it up,
You got my number baby hit me up,
If you need a little late night pick me up,
I, hope you get lonely tonight,
We ain't gotta make up just kiss me,
We could straight up blame it on the whiskey,
You ain't gotta wake up and miss me, no,
I hope you get lonely tonight

    Hope you get lonely,
    Hope you get lonely,
    Hope you get lonely tonight,
    Girl

If you're feelin' what I'm feelin' let's mix it up,
You got my number baby hit me up,
If you need a little late night pick me up,
You know, I hope you get lonely tonight,

    Hollywood Nights Lyrics

She stood there bright as the sun
    On that California coast
He was a Midwestern boy on his own
She looked at him with those soft eyes
    So innocent and blue
He knew right then he was too far from home
He was too far from home
She took his hand and she led him along that golden beach
They watched the waves tumble over the sand
They drove for miles and miles
    Up those twisting turning roads
Higher and higher and higher they climbed

    And those Hollywood Nights
    In those Hollywood hills
    She was looking so right
    In her diamonds and frills
    Oh those big city nights
    In those high rolling hills
    Above all the lights
She had all of her skills

He'd headed west cause he felt that a change would do him good
See some old friends, good for the soul
She had been born with a face
That would let her get her way
He saw that face and he lost all control
    He had lost all control
    Night after night
    Day after day
    It went on and on
Then came that morning he woke up alone
He spent all night staring down at the lights on LA
Wondering if he could ever go home

    And those Hollywood nights
    In those Hollywood hills
    She was looking so right
    It was giving him chills
    In those big city nights
    In those high rolling hills
    Above all the lights
    With a passion that kills

    In those Hollywood nights
    In those Hollywood hills
    She was looking so right

  • Seger: "The chorus to this song came into my head one night in 1977 as I was driving through the Hollywood Hills. Our drummer, David Teegarden, played an entire set of drums as we recorded and overdubbed another entire set of drums playing a different pattern. In other words, there's two sets of everything: snare, kick-drum, hi-hat, etc. Billy Payne (of Little Feat) sat in with us for the first time and played the last two instruments, piano and organ. When he was done, he asked for a tape to listen to on the way home. he called me the next day while he had been listening, he looked down and found himself going 100 miles an hour on the freeway." Ed Bruce - After All Lyrics and Youtube Music Videos

Album: You're Not Leaving Here Tonight
    Released: 1983

    After All Lyrics

    After All
  • The third single from Ed Bruce's You're Not Leaving Here Tonight album, this peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. Bruce wrote the song with his then wife and manager Patsy. The pair were frequent collaborators and are best known for penning Waylon Jennings & Willie Nelson's hit single "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys."
  • The song finds the elderly narrator serenely reflecting back on a lifelong marriage:

"After all these years after all the joys and tears
After all is said and done after most of everything we knew is gone
    I still love you."

Unlike the narrator and his wife, the Bruces' marriage didn't make the distance. After 22 years together, Ed filed for divorce on July 27, 1987 charging Patsy with "cruel and inhuman treatment."
  • On January 28, 2004 Bruce sung "After All" and "The Last Cowboy Song" on the CBS variety show Hee Haw.
  • Johnny Cash recorded the song and his version can be found on his 2014 posthumous album Out Among the Stars, which was produced by his son John Carter Cash.

Carter Cash told Billboard magazine: "This was a very different song for Johnny Cash to sing. The melody is pretty unique for him, I can't think of any other song of this type he ever recorded, the range is so extensive. He always had a way to know if a song could work, he had a way to make it his own."

And before we, got to hit the lights
And before we start the candlelight
Baby girl I want to bump and grind
This is something that is on my mind

So anxious so meet me at eleven-thirty
I love the way your talkin' dirty said I'm
So anxious girl could you quit this stallin'
    You know I'm a sexaholic said I'm

So anxious so meet me at eleven-thirty
I love the way your talkin' dirty said I'm
    So anxious

    So Anxious
  • This Static Major penned song finds Ginuwine anxiously waiting on his lover all night to come home and have sex with him.
  • The third single released from the singer's 100% Ginuwine album, it became his most successful song to that date, peaking at #16 on the Hot 100 and helping the LP reach double platinum status. However Ginuwine admitted to Billboard magazine that he initially was not in favour of its release. "I was really scared of it because it was so slow and I was singing really hard and really high. I was nervous about how it would be received by the public," he said.

"But my management at the time, Jomo Hankerson, he actually picked that one and said 'This is the one to go with,'" Ginuwine added. "We went with it and thank God he was right."
  • The music video was directed by Chris Robinson and featured an appearance by rapper Solé. Ginuwine began dating Solé soon after the promo was filmed and they wed in 2003.

    See You Soon Lyrics

See you lost your trust and you never should have, you never should have.
Don't break your back if you ever see this.
    Don't answer that.
In a bullet proof vest with the windows all closed
    I'll be doing my best
    I'll See You Soon.
In a telescope lens when all you want is friends
    I'll see you soon.

See, they came for you they came snapping at your heels, they came snapping at your heels.
Don't break your back if you ever see this.
    Don't answer that.
In a bullet proof vest with the windows all closed
    I'll be doing my best
    I'll see you soon.
In a telescope lens when all you want is friends
    I'll see you soon.

    You lost your trust
    You lost your trust
    No don't lose your trust
    No don't lose your trust

    See You Soon
  • This is about insecurity. The line, "So you lost your trust and you never should have" states that the person was so insecure that there was no reason to lose trust. Then he says, "Don't break your back if you ever hear this, don't answer that," meaning not to fret - time will do it's thing if you just think and listen. The line, "In a bulletproof vest, with the windows all closed, I'll be doing my best and I'll see you soon" means that the person protects themselves, not letting anyone in. The other person will be doing their best, seeing them soon when the insecure person has gained trust. (thanks, David - Huntington Beach, CA)

Boy i ain't scared of you, no no

Tell me who you snuck and gave you number to

    [Ginuwine]

It's ringing, but that doesn't mean I've been cheating does it

    [Chorus]
    Not right now I'm busy
Call me in the morning, oh
    Your telephones awful busy
They calling in the morning, oh
That was your final warning, don't call me in the morning Oooh

    [Aaliyah]
    Ooh, who keeps bugging you
Or who's been loving you, tell me
"are you" are you "that somebody,"
Or is it you been loving on somebody else

    [Ginuwine]
Woo, what the hell you talking bout?
And could you put that finger down
I'm always gonna be the "same ol G"
Are you leaving or staying with me?
    Tell me

    [Chorus]

    [Aaliyah: Repeats]
So who keeps bugging you (tell me)
So who keeps bugging you (oh oh oh)
So who keeps bugging you (oh oh)

    Final Warning/Interlude
  • This duet with Aaliyah was the only track on 100% Ginuwine with a featured guest. Ginuwine told Billboard magazine: "I was never really into doing features, but if I was going to do one it was going to be with her. We had the same management team; were under the same umbrella."

"I remember that day we were just having fun and playing around like we usually would do," he continued. "We did the song in like an hour, but we kept going all day because we were just talking and joking. I'll never forget that day. I'm really lucky that I got to have her on my CD and that that will live on forever. I'll always be grateful for that."

"I actually wrote 'Miss You' for her back then," Ginuwine added. "It didn't get put on her next album, but after she passed it got released on the compilation album [I Care 4 U]. I was really happy about that."
