Singer/songwriter Jim Weatherly wrote this. He also wrote "Midnight Train to Georgia," and "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)," which were also million-selling hits for Gladys Knight & The Pips. Blue Eyed Hexe

This was released as the lead single from the Pixies' EP2. The songs were recorded during October 2012 at Rockfield Studios in Monmouth, Wales and were produced by Gil Norton. They were made available to fans via a limited edition 10" vinyl, which came complete with a black patch-stitched hoodie. Alternatively, fans could simply download the EP via Pixies website.

Vocalist Black Francis explained the song's meaning: "It's a tale from the northwestern part of the UK," he said, "and it's a witch-woman kind of a song. That's what a 'hexe' is, and ours is a blue-eyed hexe."

A Hexe is a German word for a witch. The German medieval metal band Subway to Sally once recorded a song titled "Die Hexe."

Guitarist Joey Santiago said of his contribution: "Gil wanted a swagger, he wanted the guitar solo to sound like you're going to have sex with this blue-eyed hexe."

The song was originally teased by Frank Black in a Vine clip in August 2013 and debuted by the band the following month during an unannounced show at Los Angeles' Echo.

The lyric "Nixes from the Queets" combines German mythology with the name of a river in Washington state. Black Francis told Mojo magazine that Pixies songs exist on "an abstract plain."

How Deep Is Your Love

The Bee Gees wrote this for the American singer Yvonne Elliman. Robert Stigwood, who produced the movie Saturday Night Fever, insisted the Bee Gees perform it themselves for the soundtrack. Elliman did sing "If I Can't Have You," which was written by The Bee Gees and included on the soundtrack. That song was also a #1 hit in the US.

This won the 1977 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Group.

This was a massive hit in the US. It was #1 for three weeks and stayed in the Top 10 for 17 weeks, which was a record at the time. The song was also a huge hit on the Adult Contemporary chart, where it spent six weeks at #1 - more than any other Bee Gees song. When Billboard listed their top 100 Adult Contemporary song of all time in 2011, "How Deep Is Your Love" came in at #13.

In 1996 Take That covered this for their last single release until their comeback in 2006. It topped the UK chart. Gary Barlow (in 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh) commented on their remake, "We wanted to prove that we could still do a cover version this far on in our career and do it very well."

This was the first of four new songs on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack to top the US Hot 100. It was released as a single before the film or the soundtrack were issued, and rose to the top spot a week after the film debuted.

A songwriter/antiques dealer in Illinois named Ronald Selle sued the Bee Gees, claiming a song he wrote in 1975 called "Let It End" was the basis for "How Deep Is Your Love." The case went to a jury in 1983. The Bee Gees claimed that they had never heard "Let It End," and there was no evidence that they did (that song was never released - Selle made a home recording that he had sent to music publishers). The case was based on the similarities between the songs, and an expert witness for Selle - a musicologist named Arrand Parsons - tried to convince the jury through technical analysis of the notes that the Bee Gees plagiarized the song. The jury bought it, and ruled that the Bee Gees did copy Selle's song. The judge, however, nullified the verdict. Selle later appealed, and was once again rebuffed.

The case underscored the problem of juries making judgments on music, and it led to a landmark ruling that "striking similarities" between songs was not enough to prove plagiarism (something George Harrison would have appreciated). Henceforth, a songwriter had to prove that the infringing party actually heard the song before the case could move forward. This is one reason why music publishers and songwriters refuse to hear most unsolicited material.

In Daniel Rachel's The Art of Noise: Conversations with Great Songwriters, Robin Gibb explained the unique sound he and Barry created by combining their voices: "If you listen to 'How Deep is Your Love' you think it's a single voice but it's me and Barry singing in unison, which produces a nice sound, as it does on 'New York Mining Disaster.' There's a sound that we do, it's almost like a single voice, but it isn't, and it's not double-tracked, it's two voices together. It's something that we've done a lot."

Frontman Black Francis: "As with all my songs, I would prefer people add their own interpretation to it. But, in this case, let's just say that we had done 'Gigantic' as the closer for many years at our reunion shows and it worked really well. But I could see that we were going to grow weary of that and I felt like we basically needed a better 'Gigantic.'"

"It was my attempt to come up with another song that would ' musically, emotionally and psychologically ' sit in the same place that 'Gigantic' has sat," he continued. "Not that I could ever replace that song: you write songs and they come out the way they come out. So perhaps it can be said that this song fills the emotional niche that 'Gigantic' occupied, another show-closer. I think the lyric alludes to that, the fact that it's the end of the night, the end of something. And a separation if you will, between the band and the audience. So I guess it's kind of a goodbye song, or really more of a 'good night' song."

The song's music video was directed by Josh Frank, who co-wrote the Pixies oral history Fool The World. The clip stars Mel Rodriguez as the only person left on a deserted world. The American actor is best known for his roles as Migo Salazar in Running Wilde, Sgt. Nunez in Community and Patsy De La Serda in Getting On. He also had a brief appearance as Officer Morales in the 2002 film Panic Room.

This Dance-Pop track originated with a demo sent by British songwriter Dev Hynes (Solange's "Losing You," Mutya Keisha Siobhan's "Flatline") which was inspired by a failed relationship; Ferreira then modified the original lyrics and structure along with her producer Ariel Rechtshaid.

The song was released as a single in the UK on April 14, 2013 and included on the 2013 Now That's What I Call Music! 46 compilation album in the US.

Ferreria and Hynes had been friends but the pair fell out over comments she made as to whose song it was. Ferreira told The Guardian: "He wrote the demo, and I've always given him credit, all I said was that the song wouldn't have been made without me on it. I think it's a shame because Dev's really talented and he's my friend. Well, was my friend – it's kinda sad that we can't be [friends] now."

Ferreira sung this on her debut television performance, during the January 7, 2013 episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

The Nashville based Christian Rock band We As Human are centered around lead singer Justin Cordle. The group also features guitarists Jake Jones and Justin Forshaw, bassist Dave Draggoo, and drummer Adma Osborne. This is the lead single from their debut album, which was produced by Howard Benson (Skillet, Red, P.O.D., Flyleaf).

Cordle wrote this song after coming off the tail end of a huge tour, when he felt like he had nothing left. He recalled to Loudwire : "We had been writing a lot and we were at the end of the process and I was in California with my buddy Scott [Stevens} doing some co-writes and I told Scott, 'Man, I don't know if I have any words left.' And he said that we should spend the last couple of days writing songs," he recalled. "So the last two days, we were in the studio in Hollywood and we wrote 'Strike Back' and 'We Fall Apart' together."

"'Strike Back' really kind of came out of desperation," Cordle continued. "Growing up and learning how to be a musician, I kind of felt like an outcast in my town to be honest. I was a weirdo, and I just had a lot of people who didn't understand what I did or why I loved music so much or why I wanted to do that. So I faced a lot of kickback from people who thought I should just knuckle down and get a real job. But I couldn't just let it go. So there were a lot of guys who were musicians and talked about our guys behind our back and we've all had that. Or there were people who just think you should do more with your life and I don't know why, maybe they didn't get enough hugs, but they just want you to fail. So I just took all of that and decided to write a song to empower people that were going through hard times like that and let them know that you can get through no matter what you're facing, you know."

"That's kind of the story behind 'Strike Back' lyrically," Cordle concluded. "And then the music track was just Scott and I throwing down some guitars trying to create the most in-your-face, kicking rock tune."

This plea for God to remove the weapons of our own self destruction features former Flyleaf lead singer Lacey Sturm as guest vocalist. We as Human vocalist Justin Cordle told Loudwire about the collaboration: "I was really torn about it actually," he admitted. "I absolutely love her vocal, but her screams were so good that she made my screams sound feminine. So I wasn't too excited about that. [laughs] But she did awesome, man. Her screams still give me goosebumps. When I listen to 'Take the Bullets Away,' she absolutely killed it on that track."

"I was just sitting at my house waiting for a response and hoping she likes it and she called me," continued Cordle. "We'd known Lacey for a couple of years at that point and loved everything she'd done with Flyleaf and when she called me back she had nothing but great things to say about it. She actually flew from Pittsburgh, where she lives, to L.A., for one day, just to do that song for us and it was really cool for her to do that for us. Fresh Start Fever

This was the second single to be released from You Me At Six's fourth studio album, Cavalier Youth. Speaking with Kerrang! magazine, vocalist Josh Franceschi told the story of of this song. "When we started writing in the cottage we rented in Henley, Oxfordshire, we discussed how the album didn't yet have a song that represented what our band had been about until that point," he said. "We wanted to write a big pop-rock song, with exaggerated verses and a jump-up-and-down chorus."

"Neal (Avron, producer) brought all of his expertise of programmed drums and strings and horns, which gave the song a more layered texture," Franceschi added. "There is a group chant thing in the verse as well that was inspired more by hip-hop artists that we were listening to at the time."

This won Best Single at the 2014 Kerrang! Awards.

Franceschi told Kerrang!: "We wanted to start a new chapter. That's what this is about – moving forward."
