She Lyrics

She walked to watch you with the head down low
She wondered if there's a way out of the blue.
Who's gonna take her home this time'
She knew that this time wouldn't be the last time.

There she waits looking for a savior,
Someone to save her from her dying self.
Always taking ten steps back and one step forward,
She's tired, but she don't stop.

She don't stop, she don't stop, she don't stop.
She don't stop, she don't stop, she don't stop.

Every day she stood, hoping for a new light
She closed her eyes and she had a smile voice say
You don't stop, no, you belong to me
She cried, maybe it's too late.

Don't stop, don't stop, don't stop, don't stop'

She walked to watch you with the head down low
She wondered if there's a way out of the blue.
Who's gonna take her home this time'
She knew that this time wouldn't be the last time

She
  • "She" is not based on any one person – it is a composite. It is about the idea, emotion, and feeling of desperation. Mvula told Songfacts : "I'm fascinated by the idea that as human beings, even in that ultimate sort of desperation - loneliness or isolation or coming to the end of yourself - there could be something as small as hope, as small as a mustard seed. It could be minute, but it's enough to sustain you for however much longer. When it feels like you have nothing left, there's always something. For some people it's God, for others it's relationships, or whatever."
  • Laura Mvula spent years dabbling in music without taking the plunge and devoting herself to it full time. She played some solo gigs, earned small writing commissions and taught music to kids whilst working as a supply teacher and receptionist. It was the divorce of her parents that kickstarted Mvula into pursuing music as a career, her muse fueled by the uncertainty of her family life. This autobiographical song was the breakthrough. She told Mojo magazine: "I remember the afternoon I wrote 'She.' The beauty of it, the personal beauty, is I know how necessary that was for me. It was the first thing I'd done that I recalled listening back to and feeling, This really moves me."
  • The dam burst after Mvula wrote this song and next came the other tracks that comprise her debut EP, She as well as the single "Green Garden." Mvula told The Guardian how the songs she wrote were borne from the anguish she'd experienced after her parents split. "These songs have been a fantastic therapy for me," she revealed. "I needed to write them. They evoke the emotions of being lost or left, or loss in general. Things are really complicated, very painful and deep, and the music has been part of the process."

    Seven Lyrics

Full of greed you sell your soul
Full of pride a heavy load
    You eat yourself, gluttony
    Resent yourself you envy me

    Everything turns into wrath
    You lust yourself to death
    Deep fears that drive us
    Hid beneath disguises
    Judge the world within
    Forgive my deadly sins

    Procrastination always giving up
    Something better comes to interrupt
Cast your verdict down to me
    Spare me your bleeding sympathy
    Only care how you appear
Clearly see you can't see clear
    Deep fears that drive us
    Hid beneath disguises
    Judge the world within
    Forgive my deadly sins
    Deep fears that drive us
    Hid beneath disguises
    Judge the world within
    Forgive my deadly sins

    Greed, gluttony, pride, envy,
    Wrath, sloth, lust, deadly Seven
    Seven deadly sins of mine
    On every street
    And corner lie
These seven deadly sins of mine

    On every street
    And corner lie
These seven deadly sins of mine
    On every street
    And corner lie
    These seven deadly sins
    On every street

    Flamenco Sketches Lyrics

    Flamenco Sketches
  • Miles Davis began in the late 1950s to create music based on the modes, or scales, used by ancient Greek musicians, instead of traditional keys and harmonic patterns. His 1959 landmark Kind of Blue album was his first major modal jazz recording.
  • Kind Of Blue was recorded at Columbia's 30th Street Studio in New York, the five tracks were laid in nine hours with Miles Davis giving only brief instructions to a new band. (It was a ploy that Davis frequently used, feeling that individual musicians would consequently focus more on their performances.) All but one of the tracks were recorded in one take; this piece, which is made up of a set of improvised chord changes using various modes, was the only one that required a second run-through.

    Here In My Room Lyrics

This party is old and uninviting
    Participants in black and white
    You enter in full-blown technicolor
Nothing is the same after tonight

If the world would fall apart
    In a fiction-worthy wind
    I wouldn't change a thing
    Now that you're here

    Love is a verb
Here In My Room [Repeat: x3]
    Your love is a verb
Here in my room [Repeat: x3]

You enter and close the door behind you
Now show me the world seen from the stars
If only the lights would dim on winter
I'm wary of eyes upon the skies

If the world would fall apart
    In a fiction-worthy wind
    I wouldn't change a thing
    Now that you're here

    Love is a verb
Here in my room [Repeat: x3]
    Your love is a verb
Here in my room [Repeat: x3]

    Tractor beam into your incision
Spinning as free ? vicious world
I came here expecting next to nothing
So thank you for being that kind of girl
    Kind of girl [Repeat: x10]

    Here In My Room
  • This is about a guy who goes to a party and has a one-night-stand. The party is "Old and uninviting" until a girl shows up "In full blown Technicolor." She lightens up everything: "You enter and close the door behind you... now show me the stars as seen from the sky." The repetition of "That kind of girl" at the end indicates that she is a girl who will have sex with a guy after just meeting him.
  • The alternate title to this song is "Pink Tractorbeam."

Musta Had a Good Time Lyrics

Hey, y'all, is that my dog up on the roof?
And, good God, why's my car out in the pool?
All I 'member was a phone call, now the party's on
    Somebody knockin' at my door

And I don't know what the hell went on round here last night

Now I'm picking up beer cans, what a mess,
Oh Man, who's that passed out in the yard?
All that's left in the fire pit's one of my lawn chairs
And a piece of siding off my barn
Somebody doin donuts musta hit the mailbox
Cause it's laying out there in the road
There's a flood in the bathroom
A hog in kitchen, a dude on my couch with a bloody nose

And I don't know what the hell went on round here last night,
But we Musta Had a Good Time

Hey y'all why's my bed not in my room?
And, good God, how did my face get black and blue?
All I remember was a bring it on, a pour it strong,
And the girls all getting down!

Now I'm picking up beer cans, what a mess, Oh Man,
Who's that passed out in the yard?
All that's left in the fire pit's one of my lawn chairs
And a piece of siding off my barn
I guess we used the table top for a game of beer pong
And the back porch for a dance floor
Somebody took a shower rod, turned into a strip pole
Man, there's a hole punched through my door!

Now I don't know what the hell went on round here last night,
But we musta had a good time!

I sure could use a cold one, right about now

Cause I'm picking up beer cans,
Oh Man, somebody's passed out in the yard?
All that's left in the fire pit's one of my lawn chairs
And a piece of siding off my barn
Somebody doin' donuts musta hit the mailbox

I don't know what the hell went on round here last night
But, we musta had a good time!

    Musta Had a Good Time
  • Parmalee paid their dues before releasing their debut major label album Feels Like Carolina. This party anthem was written during harder times while temporarily living in an R.V. in the parking lot of a Nashville motel during the city's 2010 flood. It was released as their first single after signing with Stoney Creek Records and peaked at #42 on the Country chart.
  • Lead vocalist Matt Thomas explained the song's meaning to The Boot : "'Musta Had a Good Time' describes that one epic party that all of us have either been to - or hope to go to - at some point in our lives," he said. "It's that one party that becomes a legend in a small town. The response that we get from fans when we play this song live is crazy - the fans know all the words and everyone's dancing, and it becomes a party on stage and in the crowd. We're finding out that there's a lot of people out there who really like to have a good time."
  • Matt Thomas told Radio.com why they penned this good-natured party song: "We're at a point in our lives where we just want everyone to have a good time," he said. "We want to write happy, fun songs and I want to smile when I'm singing a song."
  • The song's music video was directed by Wes Edwards (Jason Aldean, Thompson Square) and was intended to portray the monumental party in the song, but the bash they filmed went further than they anticipated. "We shot the video at this big house near Music Row (in Nashville) with a huge swimming pool and big, crazy deck," Matt Thomas told The Boot. "There were a million things going on at once, from miniature horses running around, to stunt bikers jumping in the pool, to people dancing in a foam pit."

"It was pretty overwhelming. You couldn't look anywhere and not see something totally ridiculous," added guitarist Josh McSwain, laughing. "The video shoot was only supposed to look like the party described in the song, but at some point the shoot actually became the party. We even got kicked out of the house we were shooting in!"

A Certain Shade Of Green Lyrics

    A Certain Shade Of Green
Tell me, is that what you need?
All signs around say, "Move ahead"
Could someone please explain to me
You're ever present lack of speed?
Are your muscles bound by ropes
Or do crutches cloud your day?
My sources say, "The road is clear
And street signs point the way"

Are you gonna stand around 'til 2012 a.d?
    What are you waitin' for
    A certain shade of green?
I think I grew a gray watchin' you procrastinate
    What are you waitin' for
    A certain shade of green?

    Would a written invitation
Signed, "Choose now or lose it all"
    Sedate your hesitation
Or inflame and make you stall?
    You've been raised in limitation
But that glove never fit quite right
The time has passed for hand-me-downs
    Choose a new, please evolve
    Take flight

Are you gonna stand around 'til 2012 a.d?
    What are you waitin' for
    A certain shade of green?
I think I grew a gray watchin' you procrastinate
    (Talk that thing)

    Green?
    What are you waitin'?
    What are you waitin'?
    What are you waitin' for?
    What are you waitin'?
    What are you waitin'?
    What are you waitin' for?

    What are you waitin' for?
    What are you waitin'?
    What are you waitin'?
    What are you waitin' for?
    What are you waitin' for?

    Faden Away
  • 7 Days Of Funk is a duo comprising Snoopzilla - one of the many aliases adopted by rapper/singer Snoop Dogg - and modern-funk musician Dâm-Funk. Their eponymous debut album was released on December 10, 2013 and Snoopzilla said. "Me and my man Dam-Funk grew up on Kool & The Gang, Parliament-Funkadelic and the Gap Band, and we wanted to recreate the funk with modern vibes for 7 Days of Funk."
  • This was released as the album's lead single. Snoopzilla explained its concept to HipHopDX.com : "When you get in a relationship with somebody, it could be with your wife, it could be with your girlfriend, it could be with your kids, it could be with your mom, it could be with your brothers, 'cause your relationships are relationships," he said.

"And it gets to a point in time where it begins to fade away," Snoopzilla added. "But you try your best to hold on and keep the good things there. And a lot of times, we always looked at the ones who make the relationship go bad, but when it go bad, we the ones who try to keep the relationship together. So it's like that song represents so much of who I am and what I'm going through. Not even on a personal tip, but on a business tip. Maybe I'm fading away on a business tip, or the music side. Maybe I'm fading away career-wise. But it just feels like, 20 years from now, that record is still gonna be the s--t, no matter where we at."

    Mouldy Old Dough Lyrics

    Mouldy Old Dough
  • There are very few words in this song, mostly just "Mouldy old dough" repeated over and over.
  • Lieutenant Pigeon was a British group of Robert Woodward (piano), Steve Johnson (bass) and Nigel Fletcher (drums). Woodward's mother Hilda was a piano teacher, and she was also in the band. This is the only UK #1 to feature a mother and her son. The only father-daughter combination was Frank and Nancy Sinatra, who had a 1967 British #1 with "Somethin' Stupid."
  • In an interview with New Musical Express the band's drummer Nigel Fletcher explained: "Hilda's front room in Coventry was the scene of the crime. We didn't use the best equipment - it was recorded on a domestic machine. We find we get a better sound using the front room."
  • The single took 8 months to reach the top of the UK charts. Their only other British hit was the song's follow up "Desperate Dan."

I'm the Guy Who Found The Lost Chord
  • "I'm the Guy Who Found The Lost Chord" was co-written by Durante and Earl K. Brent. Perhaps unwisely it was released as a single on the MGM label in 1964 backed by "It's My Noses' Birthday."
  • When he introduced this song on his BBC Radio music programme in July 2013, Desmond Carrington said it was best to remember that first and foremost Jimmy Durante was a comedian, and that it would have been better if not only the chord but the song had been not simply lost but forgotten. Durante performed this in the 1947 film This Time For Keeps.

On a Monday, I am waiting
    Tuesday, I am fading
And by Wednesday, I can't sleep
Then the phone rings, I hear you
In the darkness is a clear view
'Cause you've come to rescue me

Fall, with you I fall so fast
I can hardly catch my breath, I hope it lasts

Oh, it seems like I can finally rest my head on something real
I like the way that feels
Oh, it's as if you know me better than I ever knew myself
I love how you can tell
All the pieces, pieces, Pieces Of Me
All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me

    I am moody, messy
I get restless, and it's senseless
And you never seem to care
    When I'm angry, you listen
And me happy is a mission
And you won't stop 'til I'm there

Fall, sometimes I fall so fast
When I hit that bottom, crash, you're all I have

Oh, it seems like I can finally rest my head on something real
I like the way that feels
Oh, it's as if you know me better than I ever knew myself
I love how you can tell
All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me

How do you know everything I'm about to say?
    Am I that obvious?
And if it's written on my face I hope it never goes away, yeah

On a Monday I am waiting
And by Tuesday I am fading into your arms, so I can breathe

Oh, it seems like I can finally rest my head on something real
I like the way that feels
Oh, it's as if you know me better than I ever knew myself
I love how you can tell
Oh, I love how you can tell

    Pieces Of Me
  • John Shanks wrote this with Kara DioGuardi. They came up with the song after Simpson told them, "I have all these sides to me, and my boyfriend doesn't understand." Shanks has written and produced hits for many young female singers, including Hilary Duff, Michelle Branch, Kelly Clarkson and Lindsay Lohan.
  • In October, 2004, Simpson was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live when she was caught lip-synching to this. She performed this as her first song, but later in the show she was supposed to sing "Autobiography." This song started playing instead, and while Simpson looked dumbfounded, her vocals came on, clearly indicating she was lip-synching. She walked off stage while the band kept pretending to play, and NBC went to commercial. At the end of the show, she said her band started playing the wrong song, and later claimed she lip-synched because she was suffering from acid reflux. The incident was captured by a news crew who was doing a story on Saturday Night Live for 60 Minutes. When asked about Simpson, SNL producer Lorne Michaels claimed he expected her to sing, and musical guests were only allowed to augment their vocals if dancing was involved. Michaels was clearly not happy about the incident, and they made fun of Simpson the next week.

  • This song is about surfing. Notice the first letter of each line for the meaning:

    (R)eturn to sea
    (F)orgetting everyone

  • The Pixies aren't known for surf music, but it's something they enjoyed. Frontman Frank Black explained: "I think some of our stuff sounds kinda surfy sometimes. The sound is really basic and totally involves chord progressions and a cute little riff."
