Reflections Lyrics

I remember you back in nineteen-fifty-six
You had all the moves and you knew all the tricks
You left all the ladies in a hell of a fix
When your voice took wings

Then you'd shake around and oh, how'd you sing
Just an old boy from Memphis with a big diamond ring
A country girl's prayer and a city girls dream, hail the King

But it's alright now, keep on singin' loud
It's alright now, heaven should be proud

The fifties left town on a crowded dance floor
The sixties came in with a bang and a roar
The world heard a knock
It was Janis at the door, they let her in

And when it seemed this whole world was falling apart
The houselights would fall and the music would start
She'd be givin' us all the little piece of her heart once again

But it's alright now, keep on singin' loud
It's alright now, heaven should be proud

It was October in St. Louis town
When we heard that the Free Bird had fell to the ground
We all said a prayer before we went down to play

And Ronnie, my buddy, above all the rest
I miss you the most and I loved you the best
And now that you're gone I thank God
I was blessed just to know you

But it's alright now, keep on singin' loud
It's alright now, heaven should be proud

If You Were In Love Lyrics

Dreams slipping away, just like sand in the tide
Like words you'll never say, it's so wrong, but feels so right

And now, lost in a dream I sail on your sea
Somehow in my fantasy I believe in dreams

We could settle down, wouldn't fool around
Wouldn't have a doubt If You Were In Love
If you'd feel the same, I'd do anything,
We could find a way, if you were in love with me
oh, oh, if you were in love with me

Hope, time after time, with my heart on my sleeve
And love will find me tonight, in my dreams when you leave

Oh I, I just dream about you, it brings me to my knees
I can't hide what I feel about you, I want to beg you, please

We could settle down, wouldn't fool around
Wouldn't have a doubt, if you were in love
If you'd feel the same, I'd do anything
We could find a way, if you were in love with me
Oh I, I dream about you

And now, I'm lost in a dream I sail on your sea
Somehow in my fantasy, I believe in dreams

Oh, oh if you were in love with me
Oh, oh, if you were in love with me

We could settle down, wouldn't fool around
Wouldn't have a doubt if you were in love with me
If you'd feel the same, I'd do anything,
    We could find a way
If you were in love with me

    If You Were In Love
  • This song features the voice of bassist Kimberley Dahme, who has been performing with Boston since the 2002 Corporate America album and tour. Leader Tom Scholz explained her contribution to Ultimate Classic Rock : "I thought that Kimberley would sound great on 'If You Were In Love' and I wrote it because of that, for a female voice, but I had always intended to have it accompanied by harmonies that had male voices with her. But when I heard her sing the song and I heard the second verse harmonies come in, I just said, 'This couldn't possibly be any better,' so she ended up singing the thing in its entirety. So you never know."

    Let's Get It Started Lyrics

Let's Get It Started, in here

And the base keep runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and
Runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and...

In this context, there's no disrespect, so,
when I bust my rhyme, you break your necks.
We got five minutes for us to disconnect,
from all intellect collect the rhythm effect.
Obstacles are inefficient, follow your intuition,
free your inner soul and break away from tradition.
Coz when we beat out, girl it's pullin' without.
You wouldn't believe how we wow shit out.
Burn it till it's burned out.
Turn it till it's turned out.
Act up from north, west, east, south.

    [Chorus]
Everybody, everybody, let's get into it.
    Get stupid.
Get it started, get it started, get it started.
Let's get it started (ha), let's get it started in here.
Let's get it started (ha), let's get it started in here.
Let's get it started (ha), let's get it started in here.
Let's get it started (ha), let's get it started in here.
    Yeah.

Lose control, of body and soul.
Don't move too fast, people, just take it slow.
Don't get ahead, just jump into it.
Y'all hear about it, the Peas'll do it.
    Get stutted, get stupid.
You'll want me body people will walk you through it.
Step by step, like you're into new kid.
Inch by inch with the new solution.
    Transmit hits, with no delusion.
The feeling's irresistible and that's how we movin'.

    [Chorus]

Runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and runnin runnin' and

    C'mon y'all, lets get woohoo!
    Lets get woohoo! (in here)
    Lets get woohoo!
    Lets get woohoo! (in here)
    Lets get woohoo!
Lets get woohoo! (in here) Ow, ow, ow!
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya...

Let's get ill, that's the deal.
At the gate, we'll bring the bud top drill. (Just)
Lose your mind this is the time,
Y'all test this drill, Just and bang your spine. (Just)
Bob your head like me APL de, up inside your club or in your Bentley.
    Get messy, loud and sick.
Y'all mount past slow mo in another head trip. (So)
Come then now do not correct it, let's get ignant let's get hectic.

    [Chorus]

    Lets get woohoo!
    Lets get woohoo! (in here)
    Lets get woohoo!

    Let's Get It Started
  • Originally, this was "Let's Get Retarded," which is how it appears on the album. When it was released as a single, it was changed to "Let's Get It Started" so it would get radio play. The phrase "Let's Get Retarded" is a West Coast term that means to go crazy on the dance floor (synonyms are "Go Dumb," and "Get/Go Stupid."). The phrase is chanted at clubs and dances and used in everyday slang, but the word "Retarded" is offensive to people who see it as put-down of those who are mentally challenged. (If you want to be really politically correct, the term is "Cognitively Impaired). Later copies of the album contained both versions of the song.
  • The single was released in 2003 as "Let's Get Retarded," but it took off when it was re-released later that year as the much more marketable "Let's Get It Started." This new version was used in a slew of advertising campaigns and promotions, including a series of NBA spots that featured the Black Eyed Peas. It provided a huge boost for the band and was their breakthrough single in America.
  • This won the 2004 Grammy for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group.
  • This was the first single to sell over 500,000 digital downloads in the United States.

    Dream Baby Dream
  • This song was originally written and recorded by Suicide under the title of "Keep Your Dreams," for their 1977 debut EP. The electronic protopunk duo remade the dark, electronic tune two years later under the title of "Keep Your Dreams," and released as a non album single. It found a fan in Springsteen, who transformed it into a warmer and more optimistic version, which he performed a solo keyboard version to close the concerts on his 2005 Devils & Dust tour.

The track later resurfaced as the soundtrack to a video released in October 2013 as a thank you to Springsteen's fans for supporting the 2012 and 2013 Wrecking Ball tour and then was included on his 2014 High Hopes album.
  • Suicide have been recording intermittently active since 1970. A flyer the band circulated in November of that year was the first ever to use the phrase "punk music" to advertise a concert. Alan Vega's vocals were backed by a primitive drum machine and Martin Rev's fuzz organ and their nihilistic attitude and lack of guitars often aroused bewildered reactions amongst their audiences. Despite their lack of popularity amongst the general public, Suicide's albums of the late '70s and early '80s are regarded as highly influential by music critics, having helped shape the direction of indie rock, industrial and dance music.
  • Alan Vega commented of Springsteen's cover in an 2005 interview with Backstreets Magazine. "A lot of bands have done my stuff, Suicide stuff, and they basically try and copy and do it the way that you do it," he said. "He just - thank god! - finally somebody did their version of it. They interpreted my song, he did it his way, and such a great way, that I'm going to have to sing it that way, or not sing it at all any more!"
  • High Hopes producer Ron Aniello admitted to Rolling Stone that he didn't know this was such a well-known song. He recalled: "(Bruce) played me the thing and said it was an experience more than anything at the end of his Devils and Dust shows. It took a lot to get that experience on a record for him. We had to do that song probably 10 times – different versions of it – until he was satisfied it was the right version."
  • Aniello told Rolling Stone about the recording process for High Hopes at Springsteen's home studio. "Each day he'd give me a list of things and I'd write them down," the producer said. "When he starts talking, I start writing. Then I try to distil what his advice is about the song to make it work for him. We play the song again and get it to a place."

"Take the song 'Dream Baby Dream," he added. "I had some versions of the song and he was like, 'That sounds good, but it's not quite there,' or 'It's good. You're really close.' Then the next day he'd be like, 'Ah, it's terrible. Throw it out.' I was like, 'Come on, love this song. I gotta deliver this song for you.' We went over and and over it. You never know what he's thinking. It's not like when he was 21 and he'd go 16 hours in the studio without eating. He doesn't have to do that now. He has a home studio and it's quite comfortable for him."

I was walking down the street today
Just as somebody blew the doors off of the be of A
Just then I head them call my name
As I was thrown against the car
    I was being framed

All units we've got our man
We've got the Bank Robber Man
    We don't need no reason
    You're going in the can
You look like the bank robber man
    I think you misunderstand
Do you think that I am the one that did it
    Just because I'm tan?
Just then the officer at hand said
I don't give a damn that you are in a rock and roll band

All units we've got our man
We've got the bank robber man
    We don't need no reason
    You're going in the can
You look like the bank robber man

Just tell me what's going on ?
Can you tell me what I did wrong ?
Does busting me make you feel strong ?
    Make you feel strong

All units we've got our man

Stepping on the cracks in the pavement
    Another night of being wasted
    Staring at your name
    Staring at your name

I think you're hanging out somewhere downtown
I wonder who you're dancing with now
    Are you doing the same?
    Are you doing the same?

Close my eyes and we're still naked
But then I see that my clock is changing
    It's Just Another Night
    On the other side

    Oh woah, oh woah woah
    It's just another night
    On the other side

    On the other side

Hiding underground with the cool kids
I just choose to not wanna choose this
    We're living different lives
    We're living different lives

There's gonna be a way between us
Tearing down the walls of secrets
    It's just another night
    On the other side

    Oh woah, oh woah woah
    It's just another night
    On the other side
    Oh woah, oh woah woah
    It's just another night
    On the other side
    On the other side

    Nothing's gonna keep us hostage
I don't want a thing to stop this tonight
Baby don't you think we lost it
    Just come to me, yea

There's gotta be a way between us
Tearing down our walls of secrets
    It's just another night

    Just Another Night
  • This somber breakup ballad finds the Icona Pop duo taking turns singing about a relationship that has just ended. The song was penned by the Norwegian production duo Stargate with the American hitmaker Benny Blanco, whose other credits together include Katy Perry's "Firework" and Rihanna's "Diamonds." Lana Del Rey's frequent collaborator Justin Parker, Chicago songwriter Ross Golan (Lady Antebellum's "Compass") and New York songsmith RoboPop (Gym Class Heroes' "Stereo Hearts") also contributed to the writing of the song.
  • The French New Wave-inspired black-and-white video was filmed in Paris and tells the story of a love triangle between the Icona Pop pair and an Italian man. The clip was directed by Marc Klasfeld, who has also worked with Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Jay Z. Other Parisian set clips include Adele's "Someone Like You" and Taylor Swift's "Begin Again." A lot of footage for Sinead O'Connor's iconic "Nothing Compares 2 U" video was also shot around the City of Lights, but the director ended up using just a simple tight shot of O'Connor singing.

Johnny deals a bit of blow on the side
Thinks that he's invincible, hates a fight

But she got kicked out of her home in hard times

The Messed Up Kids are on the corner
    With no money
They sell their time they sell their drugs
    They sell their body
And everywhere I see a sea of empty pockets
Beautiful girls with eyes so dark within their sockets
    So far away
    It's a washed out Saturday
    The sky all pastel shades
    Under breeze block palisades

    Lights are smashed
The streets are closed in the town
Places no one really goes to hang around
Gave up on us long ago with no hope
All you hear's the cold wind blow and get stoned

The messed up kids are on the corner

    Messed Up Kids
  • Bugg wrote this song in Nashville with Raconteurs singer and guitarist Brendan Benson. It finds him singing about returning home to Clifton, Nottingham after all his success. "That song is written from a different perspective of going back," Bugg told The Sun. "When I go back to Clifton the main concerns are money and finding ways to pay bills and buy things, It was just very strange for me after all that's happened."

"There's a lot of guilt," he added. "Why should I be able to go to all these lovely places? The more you start earning and the better you do it seems the more people want to give you things. I've been given clothes, an expensive Ralph Lauren leather jacket. I'm hardly going to say no. I buy things and people ask, 'Why did you buy it?' It's simple. Because I wanted to and because I now can."
  • Bugg said in the lead up to making Shangri-La that he wouldn't be able to write about the council estates and characters of Nottingham any more now that he's touring the world and selling thousands of albums. While this is true for the majority of the album, this song finds him singing about teenage drug dealers and prostitutes in his home town. "I'll never forget where I'm from," he told NME. "I'm speaking about it from a place that I really knew, but now I'm on the outside looking in. There's a feeling of guilt involved that people live like that and that's the way it is. People living on this estate and trying to make a living and there I am. I got to live my dream."

    You've got to get better,
Said, it's all in your head,
We could live through these letters
    Or forget it altogether,
See the months they don't matter
Its the days I can't take
When the hours move to minutes
    And I'm seconds away,

Just ask the question come untie the knot
    Say you won't care,
    Say you won't care,
Retrace the steps, as if we forgot,
    Say you won't care,
    Say you won't care,
You try to avoid it, but there's not a doubt
And there's one thing I can do nothing about

When all that we need is just a reaction,
Its too much to ask for when there's no attraction anymore,
Chasing our dreams is just a distraction
I want to remember what I know
    That I can't go back,

Just ask the question, come untie the knot
    Say you won't care
    Say you won't care
Retrace the steps as if we forgot
    Say you won't care
    Say you won't care
You try to avoid it (try to avoid it)
    But there's not a doubt
And there's one thing I can do nothing
There's one thing I can do nothing
There's one thing I can do nothing about

Just ask the question (just ask the question)
    Come untie the knot

Bugg had a short relationship with her, and after their breakup, tabloid gossip was that the singer was devastated. He explained: "People were making stories about it so I made mine from it."
  • The song was dropped from the final tracklisting of Shangri-La and replaced by "Kitchen Table." "Not because of the subject," said Bugg, "but when the final mixes came back it was one of them that didn't seem as strong."

    Am I Losin' Lyrics

I recall when I used to come home never had a dime
But Lord I always had a good time
And I recall drinkin' wine with one of my friends
Lord, I can't go back again

    [Chorus)]
Am I Losin' my own way back home
Am I losin' a good friend that I've known
Am I losin' won't you tell me how I've sinned
Why am I losin one of my bets friends

And I recall this friend of mine I knew so well
It goes to show Lord you just can't tell
Now my friend won't talk to me Let me tell you why
He thinks I 've changed because of a dollar sign

    [Chorus]

And its so strange when you get just a little money
Your so called friends want to act just a little funny
    They'll blame you

But I'm not the one that's here to blame
Its you my friend that's really changed
Its a shame, such a shame
    Am I losin' once again

Why these things happen, Lord I don't understand
But Lord it can sure hurt a man
Why my friend won't take me as I am
'Cause your friend Lord is the most important thing

    [Chorus]

    Am I Losin'
  • This is about drummer Bob Burns leaving the band due to the stress of heavy touring. After release of the album, Lynyrd Skynyrd started a 90-day 61-concert tour called "The Torture Tour." Ed King walked out during this tour.
  • An acoustic version is featured on Lynyrd Skynyrd's 1994 album Endangered Species.
  • Skynyrd is one band that's familiar with hardship. Al Kooper relates in his memoir Backstage Passes and Backstabbing Bastards that, while he was still in the early stages of taking over management of the band, Ronnie Van Zant phoned him at 2 a.m. This was to report the news that Lynyrd Skynyrd's equipment van had been stolen. They had a tour to fulfill and no equipment. So Van Zant asked Kooper to wire them $5,000 on the spot. Kooper immediately obliged, to which Van Zant remarked, "Al, you just bought yourself a band for five thousand dollars!"

    Up All Night Lyrics

Yeah girl, I just had me,
One hell of a work week.
    It's been driving me crazy,
    Not enough of you baby.
    Yeah and I been a-thinkin',
    'Bout breakin' in the weekend
    Not doin' any sleepin'
So get in, let's take a ride

And baby let's go, take a dirt road
Kick it back, find a good song on the radio,
'Til we get lost in a sunset falling
Lay a blanket by the creek
Where the moon peeks over that sycamore tree
And there won't be anyone watching
    No one watching
Now there ain't nothing wrong, baby, you and I
Gettin' down to some Up All Night

    Now don't forget your flip-flops
We can stop by the quick stop
Get some jerky and a twelve pack
No tellin' when we'll be back
I got a cooler in the truck bed
I couple towels when we get wet
Cause you know we're gonna jump in
And take a little midnight swim

So baby let's go, take a dirt road
Kick it back, find a good song on the radio,
'Til we get lost in a sunset falling
Lay a blanket by the creek
Where the moon peeks over that sycamore tree
And there won't be anyone watching
    No one watching
Now there ain't nothing wrong, baby, you and I
Gettin' down to some up all night

Come Monday, I'll be back to workin' and savin'
    But until then, yeah

Baby let's go, take a dirt road
Kick it back, find a good song on the radio,
'Til we get lost in a sunset falling
Lay a blanket by the creek
Where the moon peeks over that sycamore tree
    There won't be anyone watching
    No one watching
Now there ain't nothing wrong, baby, you and I
Gettin' down to some up all night

    Yeah, me and you
    Up all night, yeah
La la la la la, la la la la na
    Na na na na na

    Up All Night
  • The second single released by Jon Pardi was written by the Country music artist with Bart Butler (Thomas Rhett's "Make Me Wanna") and Brett Beavers, who has produced and co-written many of Dierks Bentley's songs. Pardi opened for Bentley shortly after signing on with Capitol Records in 2010.
  • The video was directed by the Edde Brothers, who also shot the clip for Pardi's debut single, "Missin' You Crazy." It was filmed outside Nashville near Montgomery Bell State Park and includes the singer's friends as well as his dog, Cowboy.
  • The song finds Pardi singing about taking his girl in his truck down a dirt road. "I had the title lying around. I had the drum loop before they were standard issue in a Country song," he told Billboard magazine. "There's no deep thought in it. It's all fun."
