Dope Ghost Lyrics

Dope Ghost
  • The first song that New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde, a.k.a. Ella Yelich-O'Connor, ever wrote was inspired by Larry Clark's 1995 dark coming-of-age movie Kids. "I've always written. I wrote short stories until I was about 13 and then messed around with songwriting until I got a bit better," Yelich-O'Connor, told MTV News "[My first song] was called 'Dope Ghost.' I had just watched that Larry Clark movie Kids and I thought it was rad. I think it was poking fun at this girl in my year who was kind of going off the rails."

And I wrote this song that sounded like System of a Down, but it was called 'Chicken Taquito.' No joke. I called it that. And literally, the words were just like, how much I love eating chicken taquitos. In a round about way. There was singing about mushrooms and green peppers and stuff too."

    It Must Be Done Lyrics

    It Must Be Done
  • Townshend wrote this song for the TV drama series The Americans with the show's composer Nathan Barr. The pair spent a couple of months exchanging musical ideas before the tune emerged. Townshend told Billboard magazine about their collaboration. "What I was struck by was that Nate composes on the cello, an instrument my partner and orchestrator Rachel (Fuller) uses, so I have listened to a lot of cello music and I have really fallen in love with it," he said.

"We exchanged ideas (between England and Los Angeles) and I was immediately struck by this very evocative piece he had written, very plaintive. I added some guitar, then came up with some lyrics."
  • Townshend and Barr wrote the song for a scene involving a car being shadowed, but after the episode was edited it was felt it did not fit the scene so was switched to a different one. Asked by Billboard what elements of the show did he want to incorporate into the song, Townshed replied: "I wanted to keep it very simple. Here's this couple whose whole life is about duty, duty without honor, duty without explanation. There are no accolades. They're not living a lie but doing things they find hard to do. Everybody has a part of their life that's difficult to explain. For me it's why the f--k am I in the Who?"
  • This was the first time Townshend had written a song specially for television. However, his tunes have been used on the medium before, most notably as the themes for CSI ("Who Are You?"), CSI: NY ("Baba O'Riley") and CSI: Miami ("Won't Get Fooled Again").

  • The first song that Kentucky-born coal miner's daughter Angaleena Presley learned to play on the guitar was "Mama Tried" by Merle Haggard. It was her father who taught the song at the age of 15 and within a year or so Presley was penning her own material.
  • This was the first ever song Presley wrote. She recalled to American Songwriter magazine: "It was so awful. I was a senior in high school and I wrote a song called 'Fairy Tale Land.' It was about me venturing off into the world and leaving my fairy tale life behind. My mom liked it and encouraged me to write more. About 20 songs later I wrote something that made me think, "hmmm … this one might be kinda good."
  • Presley told CMT News she wrote this when she was 16-years-old. "It was about me moving away and going to college and leaving your parents," she explained. "It was awful. I would die if anyone heard it."

"It was no 'Honky Tonk Girl,' that's for sure," she added.
