This was the only cover song Boston ever recorded. It was originally done by a Pennsylvania band called Hybrid Ice, who had a singer reminiscent of Brad Delp. Rusty Foulke, the guitarist for Hybrid Ice, also did some other work with Tom Scholz.

A Love Like War

This was released as the lead single of the reissue of American Rock band All Time Low's fifth studio album Don't Panic. The extended record features four newly recorded songs and four additional acoustic remixes as well as the original material.

The song features Vic Fuentes of the post hardcore band Pierce the Veil. Fuentes told Kerrang! magazine how he got involved with the track. "Alex (Gasgarth, All Time Low singer) asked if I'd be interested in doing a song. We'd grown pretty close over the last couple of tours."

He added: "Alex had the song written, but they said, 'Just go nuts on it and put your own thing on it,' so I ended up adding a few little things here and there."

This is the debut single released by New York-based Indie Rock band American Authors. The song is an optimistic track about keeping your chin up. The band explained to Marley's Musicality how the tune came about. "2012 was a very intense year for everyone," they said. "It was a very violent year. Sandy struck us really hard in our home of New York City. There was a lot to devastating things that happened. We decided to be optimistic about the new year. For 'Believer' there was really no formula in mind. We were all in the room where we write and we were playing around on a guitar, and then someone started to play a really happy fun riff. We added some banjo and then someone chimed in with a melody. The rest came very organically."

Lead vocalist Zac Barnett recalled to American Songwriter magazine: "When we wrote that, we wanted to do something completely fun and upbeat. James (Shelley, guitar) had just found a banjo under his girlfriend's bed like two days before that, so he actually learned banjo for that song."

The song urges listeners to look optimistically towards the future. "In the verses it's talking about all these flaws and insecurities that we have as people," Zac Barnett explained to Radio.com . "It's saying, 'I'm sheltered, I'm scared, I'm nervous that I'm not getting anywhere. I'm jealous and I'm slow. But at the end of the day, these are the things that make me who I am.'"

"When the chorus hits," Barnett added, "it's 'I'm a believer that things are going to get better.' You can be who you are and stay true to yourself, but in the end things are always going to get better in life."

The guitar solo in the song uses 6 different types of Wah effects: 2 standard pedals, 3 Auto Wah pedals, and a digital Wah via Pro-Tools.

"Heavy" rocketed to the #1 spot on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, and then set a record for longevity at that position by cruising for 15 weeks. The record stands so far. This, in addition to the other seven charting hit singles from the Dosage album, made it a landmark in Collective Soul's career.

The band performed this at the Woodstock '99 festival, along with a cover of Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train."
And "Crazy Train" pretty much sums up the Woodstock '99 experience. As opposed to earlier attempts to recapture the Woodstock spirit, Woodstock '99 was marked by riots, looting, fires, and reported rapes and assaults. The Red Hot Chili Peppers' Anthony Kiedis compared viewing the fires from the stage while performing with scenes from the film Apocalypse Now. Riot police broke it up, ending it abruptly. Looking back, one has to wonder what got into people. Y2K jitters?

Anthony J. Resta was the producer for this album. Along with being a marquee producing talent for acts such as Duran Duran and Megadeth, he also snagged his 11th RIAA Gold and Platinum certification for his production work on the soundtracks for the Twilight films. See, that's just what Collective Soul fans wanted was to be reminded of Twilight.

This song is about Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. Billy tried to sue the band after "Shine" was a hit - he claimed they copied his song "Rhinosauris." However, "Shine" was featured on a Ed Roland demo back in 1987 long before Billy wrote his song. The case was thrown out.

The second track on Life, Love & Hope is actually a remastered version of a song that was included on Boston's previous album, Corporate America. Boston leader Tom Scholz explained to Ultimate Classic Rock : "I did remaster it and change the mix a little bit, but that's basically the same song that was released back in 2002."

"That's the only song on the album that I didn't write in its entirety," Scholz added. "Curly Smith and a friend of his wrote that verse and I just really liked the song. So my goal was to try to get a bigger audience for it than it got with Corporate America. It was no mistake that I put it in there in the #2 position. I really wanted people to hear this song."

"Now, the moment those giant three-part a capella harmonies come in, you know it's a Boston song. I thought Tommy (DeCarlo) did a great job of covering that first verse lead vocal and finishing out the choruses.
