Ballroom Dancing Lyrics

Well I used to smile when I was a pup
Sailing down the Nile in china cup
With the recipe for a lovely day
Sticking out my back pocket

But it wasn't always such a pretty sight
'Cause we used to fight like cats and dogs
Till me made it up in the ballroom

Ballroom Dancing made a man of me
One, two, three, four
I just plain adore your
Ballroom dancing, seen it on TV
I got what I got from ballroom dancing
Big b.d.

Well I used to fly when I was a kid
And I didn't cry if it hurt a bit
On a carpet ride to a foreign land
At the time of Davy Crockett

But it wasn't always such a pretty sight
'Cause we used to fight like cats and dogs
Till me made it up in the ballroom

Ballroom dancing made a man of me
One, two, three, four
I just plain adore your
Ballroom dancing, seen it on TV
I got quite a lot from ballroom dancing
Big b.d.

Well went so fast and we all grew up
Now the days have passed in the china cup
Are the memories of another day
And I wouldn't want to knock it

But it wasn't always such a pretty sight
'Cause we used to fight like cats and dogs
Till we made it up in the ballroom

Ballroom dancing made a man of me
One, two, three, four
I just plain adore your
Ballroom dancing, seen it on TV
I got quite a lot from ballroom dancing
Big b.d.

Ballroom Dancing
  • American fans didn't get it, but British fans loved this song because it was a satirical send-up of the ballroom dancing craze in England in the early 1980s. The biggest hits on British television at the time were ballroom dancing competitions ("seen it on TV").

    Hit Me More Lyrics

    40 days of rain.
    40 nights it poured.
    I can't take it anymore,
    It's getting overboard.
    I lean forward.
    Wandered through mountains,
    Ran through valley's so low.
Been down the road less traveled,
    A million times before.
Went through hell to find my heaven,
    Crossing up my lines.
Went through hell to find my heaven,
    Fighting for my life.

    10 floors down,
    I dove into the night.
The stars were in my eyes, I scream,
    Come on Hit Me More.
    Broken by the sound.
    Blinded by the light.
You say it's do or die, I scream,
    Come on hit me more
There's a choice to be made,
Come on, what you waiting for?
    Is that all you got?
    Come on hit me more.

    Hit me with sunshine,
    Burn my skin,
    Reign down fire,
    Come on bring it again.
    Gotta pay it forward.
    Float like a butterfly,
    Sting like a bee,
I want you to give me your best mohammad ali
Went through hell to find my heaven,
    Crossing up my lines.
Went through hell to find my heaven,
    Got nothing left to hide.

    10 floors down,
    I dove into the night.
The stars were in my eyes. I scream,
    Come on hit me more.
    Broken by the sound.
    Blinded by the light.

    Come on hit me more
There's a choice to be made,
Come on, what you waiting for.
    Is that all you got?
    Come on hit me more.

"float like a butterfly, sting like a bee."
I want you to give me, your best mohammed ali
    I lean forward

    10 floors down,
    I dove into the night.

    Hit Me More
  • This song finds Scott Stapp revisiting a horrific episode from his past when during a drug-fueled bout of paranoia, he jumped ten stories off a hotel ledge in Miami Beach and miraculously survived. Stapp now sees it a life-altering moment. "Rationally, I should have been dead," he said. "Yet all it did was strengthen my conviction that, as hard as I tried to control or even end my story, my story was really out of my hands."

Randy Newman - I Love LA Lyrics and Youtube Music Videos

    Album: Trouble In Paradise
    Released: 1983

    I Love LA Lyrics

    I Love LA
  • Randy Newman was asked to write a song about Los Angeles as a theme to the 1984 Olympics, which were held there. Instead, he wrote a tongue-in-cheek "homage" to the car-cruising, sun-worshipping LA culture, complete with mentions of a "Big nasty redhead" and a "Bum down on his knees." LA officials didn't think this was the image they wanted, but Newman released the song anyway. Despite the unsavory references to the city, the song became an anthem for Los Angeles, as most people didn't listen far beyond the chorus. This is typical of Newman's songwriting; he often writes lyrics that mean more than what's on the surface. "I don't want to sing everything out of the side of my mouth," he once said.
  • Randy Newman's cousin, Tim Newman, directed the video. Tim had lots of experience directing commercials, but had never done a music video. For most of the video, we see Randy driving around Los Angeles, taking in the beautiful sights along the way. Tim said it was the most fun he ever had at his job.
  • For a while this was the adopted theme song for the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team. It is also played after every LA Dodgers home victory.

Someday (Place in the Sun) Lyrics

They never have time to give you
    They’re always on the run
But you keep on working for your place in the sun
When the lights go out in London
    Your work has just begun
Someday you will find your place in the sun
Find a place in the sun
Find a place in the sun

Back to the beginning in fact no we’re winning
Thanks to the spectacular raps that I’m scribbling
It’s ‘Bachs that I’m driven in
    Plaques in my living room
The stats match the facts man I'm back, back, back, back
Mama look we made it out the flats we was living in
Times I nearly thought I would collapse living in Britian
    Smiling in pictures
    Flying to fixtures
Never in denial cos the Nile is a river
Rappers on the sly try’na eye my elixir
Jealousy’s a crime bet your pride won’t resist ‘ya
To get to where I am I cried like I was injured
Bled like a soldier perspired like a sprinter
Brother said T keep an eye out from them rinsers
People that you hang with are trying to lynch ya
    Never break down
I’ll be there to lift ya
You’re perfect how you are so why they trying to fix ya

They never have time toAnnotate give you
    They’re always on the run
But you keep on working for your place in the sun
When the lights go out in London
    Your work has just begun
Someday you will find your place in the sun
Find a place in the sun
Find a place in the sun

Away from the pain and the sadness
Soon the whole world is gonna understand my language
Everybody’s try’na find a method to the madness
Wankers hating on me ‘cos I did it single handed
Whatever will be will be even if you plan it
On the road to success but feeling like I’m stranded
Disturbing London ho, I don’t speak no other language
Started with a goal and then I ended with a hat-trick
Selling out arenas think it’s time to do a new tour
Pennies for the thoughts that I’m about to give you food for
Never show emotion even on a mood board
Sold my bandwagon then I went and bought a two door
Dizzee made me rap and rider made me get my groove on
I just wanna hit a billion views and do a tune Sean
Thinking ’bout life listening to too short
One day they’ll have a statue of me in Madame Tussauds

They never have time toAnnotate give you
    They’re always on the run
But you keep on working for your place in the sun
When the lights go out in London
    Your work has just begun
Someday you will find your place in the sun
Find a place in the sun
Find a place in the sun

For that spot I’ma use Cruella Deville power
Or do a Willow and Jaden and use my willpower
Victory is the sweetest defeat is real sour
Together we can move mountains rebuild towers
A lot of hurt still waiting for God to heal ours
Stand up and rebel again the real cowards

They never have time to give you
They’re always on the run (on the run)
But you keep on working for your place in the sun
When the lights go out in London (Disturbing London)
Your work has just begun (we’ve just begun)
Someday you will find your place in the sun

    Someday (Place in the Sun)
  • Tempah explained in a track-by-track video that this song is about how he started in the cold, harsh streets of London and had to face many obstacles to get to where he is today (his "place in the sun").
  • The song features vocals by Virgin/EMI singer-songwriter Ella Eyre, who also sung on Rudimental's chart-topping single, "Waiting All Night."

    Looking Down the Barrel Lyrics

    Looking Down the Barrel
  • This track filled with boisterous boastings and laugh-out-loud punchlines follows on from where the Disc-Overy track "Obsession" left off. Tempah explained that he decided to fill the tune with "random retorts and different tangents he was going off on," concerning fame, life, relationships and success.
  • The song's Johnny Cash-flavoured beat was supplied by Tom Rowlands of The Chemical Brothers, and the song's sample of Gator Creek's 1970 track "Betty Jean's Mama" was selected by the electronica musician. "The beat is very odd," Tempah told The Sun. "It's grimey and there's a Johnny Cash-esque sample too. I'm always trying to flip it. I've put some weird lyrics in there too; just things that pop into my head. I think it's great for people to get into my mind. I think people were wondering 'Who is this guy?' It's important for me to let people in a bit more."

    King For A Day Lyrics

    There's no way
    I'm coming back to you
    I've just got to say
That everything we did is through
    You tried to undermine
The better ranges of my nature
But soon you're going to find
You should have started talking straighter
    Now don't you worry
    I won't put you down
    I'm in no hurry, baby
To see you go to ground
Because it's true what they say
You know it's true what they say
You're only King For A Day
I guess you're happy that way

    Well there's no hope
    For peace and reconciliation
You're quick to play your hand
But what you haven't learnt is patience
    So look before you leap
To tell the world your colored story
It's clear your talk is cheap
You'd do anything to get your glory
So spread your wings and fly
    There is no doubt
You're so sorry inside you've got something to shout about
Because it's true what they say
You know it's true what they say
You're only king for a day
I guess you're happy that way

    And there's no love
Ever to be lost between us
    I guess this is because
The damage that you've done is so grievous
    So I hang my head
To dwell on what might have been
    But what you left instead
Is pieces of a broken dream

    Now don't you worry
    I won't put you down
    I'm in no hurry
To see you go to ground
Because it's true what they say
You know it's true what they say
You're only king for a day
I guess you're happy that way

So spread your wings and fly
    There is no doubt
    You're so sorry inside you've
    Got something to shout about

Because it's true what they say
You know it's true what they say
You're only king for a day
I guess you're happy that way

Don't you see that you're only king for a day
    You must believe that

    Pathetic benign accept it undermine
    Your opinion my justification
    Happy safe servant caged
    Malice utter weakness
    No toleration, invade
    Committed enraged admit it
    Don't condescend don't even disagree
    Destroy decay disappoint delay
You've suffered then now suffer unto me

    Obsession, take another look
    Remember, every chance you took
    Decide, either live with me
Or give up, any thought you had of being free

(don't go) I never wanted anybody more
    Than I wanted you
(I know) the only thing I ever really loved
    Was hate

Anyone no anything yes anyway fall anybody mine
    Anybody tell me
    I want you I need you I'll have you I won't
    Let anybody have you
Obey me believe me just trust me worship me
    Live for me
Be grateful now be honest now be precious now
    Be mine just love me

    Possession, feed my only vice
Confession, I won't tell you twice
    Decide, either die for me
Or give up, any chance you had of being free

(don't go) I never wanted anybody more
    Than I wanted you
(I know) the only thing I ever really loved
    Was hurting you
(don't go) I never wanted anybody more
    Than I wanted you
(I know) the only thing I ever really loved
    Was hate

Stay inside the hole, let me take control
    Dominate
You are nothing more, you are something less
    Innocent
Something has to give, something has to break
    Omnipresent
Fingers in your skin, let me savage in
    You deserve it

(don't go) I never wanted anybody more than I wanted you
(I know) the only thing I ever really loved was hurting you
(don't go) I never wanted anybody more than I wanted you
(I know) the only thing I ever really loved was hate

To Live And Die In LA
  • This is the title track to William Friedkin's 1985 crime drama To Live and Die in LA Wang Chung wrote the original score for the film (which included this song).
  • According to the DVD commentary on To Live and Die in L.A., director William Friedkin didn't want a theme song for the movie, but Jack Hues and Nick Feldman of Wang Chung wrote one anyway, which was this song. Friedkin liked it and decided to use it in his movie.
  • In an interview with Eric Greenberg on the Just My Show podcast, Jack Hues of Wang Chung explained: "It all has to do with the opportunity to explore a new genre. I started out just a kid in love with the Beatles music and learning to play guitar, but when I got around 18, I wanted to go to university. And at that time you had to do classical music if you wanted to do music in university. So I got into classical music, and that whole thing of long form composition - outside of a three-minute pop song - was something I really, really wanted to do. So the opportunity for To Live and Die in LA was ideal for me creatively. It gave me the chance to really expand ideas instead of always having to pare them down and try and fit them into that three-minute format."

    The Spark Lyrics

A little bit of misfit dancing
A little bit of jojo dancing
A little bit of thoughts of mine coming out
The mind of this midnight rambler

I can't wait 'til these tunes of mine
Get me out of this local jam
Get up, up on that big stage now
Show the world just who the heck I am

Ever thank you if it all goes right
You got something that could change your life
Use that moment just to show your life
    Everything is gonna be alright.

    Crashing through the stars, alright
I'm screaming 'til the stars collide
    I'm tellin' everybody, that's right
    We all got The Spark,
We all got the spark tonight

Takin' back the way we are
'Cause that's just the way we are
I'm crashing through the dark, well alright
    We all got the spark,
We all got the spark tonight

They say if you look around
    For something hard enough
And you just might find it
And there's some around who wanna keep you down
    But Shawty don't be blinded
    Feeling trapped
Thinking that you can't get out of this hum drum scene
Time to turn this thing upside down
Show these people what you really mean

Everything that you could lose your mind
Could it be the big dream you'll find
No more waiting 'cause it's almost time
    Everything is gonna be alright.

    Crashing through the stars, alright
I'm screaming 'til the stars collide

    We all got the spark,
We all got the spark tonight

    I'mma feel this forever
Or even if it's just tonight
I can see the end much clearer
Even when I close my eyes

Tryin' to keep myself from falling
Tryin' to get this thing right
I gotta do this more often
    Well, well maybe tonight

    Crashing through the stars, alright
I'm screaming 'til the stars collide
    I'm tellin' everybody, that's right
    We all got the spark,
We all got the spark tonight

    The Spark
  • This song features vocals by Nashville singer-guitar player-rapper, Spree Wilson. Afrojack recalled the track's origins to Billboard magazine: "I started working with Spree on the song in the studio and he already wrote the song. Then the label came and were like, 'Hey look: we're the label, let's put some major artist on there' and it didn't really work because it completely disrupts the balance of the song. It became too pop sounding." Ultimately, Wilson was retained as the featured artist, a first for the songwriter.
  • The music video was directed by Tim Nackashi, who is best known for helming clips for artists such as Maroon 5, OneRepublic and OK Go. The visual sees Afrojack hitting Las Vegas and partying in a mansion. (The Dutch DJ was a resident at the time at Sin City's Wynn luxury resort).
  • This was released as the lead single from Forget The World. Afrojack told Rolling Stone that the album title has a lot of meaning for him. He explained: "It's basically a message not just to my fans, but also to myself, to always remember to keep following your heart, keep following your path, and never try to let the things around you get you down."
