Coconut Dracula Lyrics

Coconut Dracula Song Chart
  • The inspiration for this quirky song came as a result of lead singer Mikey Carvajal mishearing his Spanish-speaking grandfather. He explained to Rock Sound magazine: "My family is Hispanic and one day my Uncle said something that sounded like 'Coconut Dracula.' I asked him if that's what he said and he said no. I told him I liked the way it sounded and was going to write a song with that somehow."

"It's a song about having a new nature," Carvajal continued. "Count Dracula one day finds a coconut on the ground and bites into it. He discovers that there are beautiful things in the world that have nothing to do with being evil or hurting people. He then gets his name legally changed from Count Dracula to Coconut Dracula. He is roommates with a Werewolf, Frankenstein, a Witch, and a Mummy. They are very confused about Dracula's new lifestyle as he is helping with charities, wearing batman pajamas, and eating fresh veggies from his garden. The song is from the Mummy's point of view as he is desiring to be filled with the same joy that has captured Dracula's heart."

  • The title stands for "She Was Like A Bearded Rainbow." Like the songs' lyrics, it is not supposed to make much sense.

The words were written by Pete Brown, a poet who was friends with drummer Ginger Baker and bassist Jack Bruce before they formed Cream. Early on, most of Cream's songs (including this one) were sung by Bruce. Brown was able to put words to the instrumental Cream tracks that Bruce was comfortable singing, making him a welcome addition to their songwriting process.
  • Cream used Felix Pappalardi as the album's producer. Pappalardi was also a musician, and later formed the band Mountain. He encouraged them to experiment in the studio, which led to unusual songs like this one. It was done on a tight schedule, however, as the band had just three days to record Disraeli Gears (except for "Strange Brew," which they put to tape a month earlier) before shipping back to England. The sessions took place at Atlantic Studios in New York City, and were engineered by Tom Dowd, who took care of the mixing after musicians were called away. When Eric Clapton formed Derek and the Dominos a few years later, Dowd produced their classic Layla album.
  • Eric Clapton's guitar part was heavily processed. He ran it through a fuzz-box and used a wah-wah pedal.
  • This was released as the B-side of "Sunshine Of Your Love," Cream's only hit in the US.
  • Eric Clapton got the idea for the album title after a roadie told him about the derailleur gears on his bicycle. Derailleur, pronounced "Di-rail-yer," are the kind of gears commonly found on 10-speed bikes. The roadie (Mick Turner) pronounced it "Disraeli," which led to the title.
  • This was one of two Cream songs (the other being "N.S.U.") that consisted of only initials. Many DJs attempted to give the song title to listeners by reading it as if it were a real word, instead of reading each individual letter (i.e. "swuh-lah-bur," instead of "S.W.L.A.B.R."). If My Truck Could Talk Lyrics

Twelve gauge, old Ford, buckshot floorboard, don't ask
Fence post, door dent, let's just leave it at that
It's got dirt on me, yeah I'd be up a tree

If My Truck Could Talk, I'd have to yank out all the wires
Pour on the gas, set it on fire, anything to shut it up
It's been good to me but it knows too much, he'd sing it all
I'd have to find a riverbank and roll it off
    If my truck could talk

Those two headlights, looked in her eyes, how she danced
Moonlit truck bed, two kids, enough said, yeah man
All that went on, goes all night long
It could go on and on and on

If my truck could talk, I'd have to yank out all the wires
Pour on the gas, set it on fire, anything to shut it up
It's been good to me but it knows too much, he'd sing it all
I'd have to find a riverbank and roll it off
    If my truck could talk

If my truck could talk I couldn't deny a word it said
I'd just smile and shake my head, yeah

It's been good to me but it knows too much, he'd sing it all
I'd have to find a riverbank and roll it off

  • This Old Boots, New Dirt track about country music's favorite mode of transportation was penned by Neil Thrasher, Wendell Mobley and Andrew Pates. Aldean told Billboard magazine why the song resonated with him. "I think that's another of those songs that as a guy, you always remember your first car -- the one you drive until the wheels fall off," he said. "You've got all these memories of things you've done in it, and at 16, that's what you look forward to most - being able to drive."

"A song like this tells that story," Aldean continued. "I thought about my first car, running it into the ditch, and all the other things I did. I thought it was a really cool way to say something like that, and I had never heard a song say it that way."
  • Aldean told Taste of Country the song reflects his story. "I had a '94 pickup truck when I turned about 16," he said. "I had about 150,000 miles on it and it definitely has some good stories. I hope somebody runs it off a cliff."

I have finally found a way to live
Just like I never could before.
I know that I don't have much to give,
But I can open any door.

    Everybody knows the secret,

I have finally found a way to live
In the color of the Lord.

I have finally found a place to live
Just like I never could before.
And I know I don't have much to give,
But soon I'll open any door.

    Everybody knows the secret,
    Everybody knows the score.
I have finally found a place to live

  • Eric Clapton wrote this song, which is a testimony of faith. It's the first song he wrote all the lyrics for.
  • Steve Winwood sang lead, as he did with all of the Blind Faith songs. Clapton wanted him to sing it because he knew Winwood could hit the high notes.
  • This was Blind Faith's only album. They broke up after one difficult tour.
  • The song is about how Clapton was becoming more comfortable with his life. He had just left Cream at the peak of it's popularity, and was looking forward to playing with Blind Faith.
  • The album cover was a photo of a young girl with no clothes on holding a model spaceship. According to photographer Bob Seidemann, who shot the cover, he had the idea but did not have someone to pose. While riding the London subway, he saw a young girl who would be perfect and asked her to pose for the cover. He went to the girl's house to ask her parents' permission to pose topless for the cover. They agreed, but the girl backed out. However, the girl's younger sister begged the parents to let her pose instead. They agreed and the younger sister ended up posing for the cover. Seidemann called the image "Blind Faith" and Eric Clapton made that the name of the group. (thanks, Joel - Chicago, IL)

    Let It Rain Lyrics

The rain is falling through the mist of sorrow that surrounded me
The sun could never thaw away the bliss that lays around me

    [Chorus]
Let It Rain, let it rain,
Let your love rain down on me
Let it rain, let it rain,
    Let it rain, rain, rain

Her life was like a desert flower burning in the sun
Until I found the way to love, it's harder said than done

Let it rain, let it rain,
Let your love rain down on me
Let it rain, let it rain,
    Let it rain, rain, rain

Now I know the secret; there is nothing that I lack
If I give my love to you, you'll surely give it back

Let it rain, let it rain,
Let your love rain down on me
Let it rain, let it rain,
    Let it rain, rain, rain

  • Clapton wrote this with the help of Bonnie and Delaney Bramlett. They put most of it together while they were touring together in 1969; Clapton with Blind Faith, and The Bramletts supporting them with their group Delaney & Bonnie. Blind Faith broke up after their first tour, and Clapton formed Derek and the Dominos with Delaney & Bonnie's backup group, who Clapton became friends with on the tour.
  • This was the last track on Clapton's first solo album. Delaney Bramlett produced it.
  • Organist Bobby Whitlock, bass player Carl Radle and drummer Jim Gordon were part of Clapton's backing band on his first album and played on this track. After recording the album, these four formed their own group, Derek and the Dominos, and released the classic album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.

Jim Gordon wrote the piano part for "Layla" and later suffered terrible mental illness and bludgeoned his mother to death.
  • Jerry Allison and Sonny Curtis sang backup on this track. They were former members of The Crickets, Buddy Holly's backup band. The female backup singers were Bonnie Bramlett and Rita Coolidge.
  • This wasn't released as a single until 1972, two years after the album came out. This was done to capitalize on the success of "Layla," which became a hit that year when it was re-released as a long version and after people figured out that Derek and the Dominos was Clapton's group.
  • This was one of the few Eric Clapton solo tracks Derek and the Dominos played when they toured. At one point, they used it to teach drummer Jim Gordon a lesson. "Jim Gordon was going on about how he never got a drum solo, so we fixed his little wagon," Bobby Whitlock said in his Songfacts interview. "We gave him a drum solo in 'Let It Rain' and it lasted for nine-and-a-half minutes. And he kept going - you could hear it in the solo. He would stop and he was looking at Eric. We were on the side of the stage behind the curtain smoking a cigarette and having a drink, and we wouldn't come back out, so he had to keep going and keep going. Okay, Mr. Drummerman, you want a solo? Take your solo."
  • Stephen Stills played the guitar solo in the middle of the song.

    Let me in
    Don't stop can't stop
    Oh and it's big time
    Walk on the wind
    Breaking me out
From the inside and the outside
    A shock front
    Rocked you and rocked you
    Double quicklime
    Hold the whirlwind
    Hanging me up
Like the first time and the last time

    Hang on, hang on
    The universe explodes
    Hang on, hang on
    Confusion controls

    What's happening
    It's shooting me up
    Into the big sky
    Just everything
    Is breaking us out
    From the inside
    And the outside
    Thoughts blown
    Rocked and blocked me
    Oh, I'm mystified
    Chase the whirlwind
    Waking us up
For the first time and the last time

    Come on, come on
    The universe exposed
    Come on. come on
    Confusion controls

    Day by day by day
    By North or South
    You can't go home
    Confusion controls
    Hang on, hang on
    The universe explodes

    Lay Down Sally Lyrics

There is nothing that is wrong
In wanting you to stay here with me
I know you've got somewhere to go
But won't you make yourself at home and stay with me?
    And don't you ever leave

Lay down, Sally, and rest you in my arms
Don't you think you want someone to talk to?
Lay down, Sally, no need to leave so soon
I've been trying all night long just to talk to you

The sun ain't nearly on the rise
And we still got the moon and stars above
    Underneath the velvet skies
    Love is all that matters
    Won't you stay with me?
    And don't you ever leave

Lay down, Sally, and rest you in my arms
Don't you think you want someone to talk to?
Lay down, Sally, no need to leave so soon
I've been trying all night long just to talk to you

I long to see the morning light
    Coloring your face so dreamily
So don't you go and say goodbye
You can lay your worries down and stay with me
    And don't you ever leave

Lay down, Sally, and rest you in my arms
Don't you think you want someone to talk to?
Lay down, Sally, no need to leave so soon
I've been trying all night long just to talk to you

Lay down, Sally, and rest you in my arms

  • This jaunty tune is one of Clapton's biggest American hits. He wrote it in the style of one of his favorite songwriters, the Oklahoma musician J.J. Cale (Clapton said the song was "as close as an Englishman could get to being J.J. Cale). The B-side of the single was Clapton's cover of Cale's song "Cocaine."
  • In this song, Clapton tries to convince a girl to hang out with him in bed instead of leaving. The song is not typical of Clapton's work, which is often based on the blues.
  • Marcy Levy, one of Clapton's backup singers, wrote this with him and sang on it. She toured with Bob Seger before joining Clapton's band in 1973. In 1988, Levy, using the name Marcella Detroit, joined former Bananarama singer Siobhan Fahey to form Shakespear's Sister.

Also getting a songwriting credit on this track is George Terry, who also played guitar on the track. Terry was a member of Clapton's band.
  • "Lay Down Sally" is grammatically incorrect, as it would mean taking Sally and actually placing her horizontally. When asking Sally to join him in bed, Clapton's correct grammar would be "Lie Down Sally." He's in good company: Bob Dylan also ignored this rule of grammar in "Lay Lady Lay." (thanks, Bert - Pueblo, NM)
  • Eric Clapton once had his hand slammed in a car door by a member of the band The Blues Project. As told in Al Kooper's Backstage Passes and Backstabbing Bastards , during the landmark 1967 concert "Murray the K's Easter Rock Extravaganza," Clapton, Steve Katz, and Kooper headed out to a local music store between sets and were a little late getting back. Hurrying out of the cab, "Steve was right behind me and as he left the cab he accidentally slammed the door right on Clapton's hand! Eric began to scream in pain, and Steve turned around, ran back, and opened the door. Miraculously, Eric hadn't broken any bones or even punctured his skin for that matter. Steve felt like a jerk, however. Can you imagine that kind of guilt?"
  • This is the first track on the album. Depending on who you ask, "Slowhand" was either a nickname given to Clapton by the group's manager when he was with The Yardbirds (because of his laid-back guitar style), or derived from what would happen when Clapton would break a string on stage: the audience would do a "slow hand clap" while he fixed it.

The sassy singer is warning a guy if you want to get with her, you'd better give her that girlfriend title.
  • This was released as the second single from Title. "Dear Future Husband" was originally earmarked to be the second release as it has a closer doo-wop sound to "All About That Bass," but instead this was chosen as the follow-up to Meghan's #1 smash. "I loved that 'Title' showed a little Caribbean drum before the chorus," she explained to MTV News, "and then, like, a rap bridge that was, like…[a] totally different sound."
  • Title topped the US album chart, making Trainor the thirteenth female artist to achieve both a debut #1 single and long player. The previous female artist to do so was Kesha with "TiK ToK" and Animal in 2010.
  • Trainor wrote this with her "All About That Bass" songwriting partner Kevin Kadish, who also produced the track. He explained to Songwriter Universe: "We had a free day and we wrote the song right away, in about eight minutes! We were inspired. The lyric theme is about something real that Meghan was dealing with. I had this track and she said she wanted to write to it."

    I Shot the Sheriff Lyrics

(I Shot the Sheriff, but I didn't shoot no deputy, oh no! Oh!
I shot the sheriff, but I didn't shoot no deputy, ooh, ooh, ooh)

Yeah! All around in my home town,
They're tryin' to track me down,
They say they want to bring me in guilty
For the killing of a deputy,
For the life of a deputy, but I say

    Oh, now, now, oh!
(I shot the sheriff) the sheriff
(But I swear it was in self defense) Oh, no! (Oh, oh, ooh)
Yeah, I say, I shot the sheriff oh, Lord! (And they say it is a capital offense)
    Yeah! (oh, oh, ooh) Yeah!

Sheriff John Brown always hated me,
    For what, I don't know,
Every time I plant a seed,
He said kill it before it grow,
He said kill them before they grow, and so

Read it in the news! (I shot the sheriff) Oh, Lord!
(But I swear it was in self-defense)
Where was the deputy? (Oh, oh, ooh)
I say, I shot the sheriff,
But I swear it was in self defense, yeah! (Ooh)

Freedom came my way one day
And I started out of town, yeah!
All of a sudden I saw sheriff John Brown
    Aiming to shoot me down,
So I shot, I shot, I shot him down and I say,
If I am guilty I will pay!

(I shot the sheriff) But I say (But I didn't shoot no deputy),
I didn't shoot no deputy (oh, no-oh) oh no!
(I shot the sheriff) I did!
But I didn't shoot no deputy, oh (Oh, oh, ooh)

Reflexes had got the better of me
And what is to be must be,
Every day the bucket a-go a well,
One day the bottom a-go drop out,
One day the bottom a-go drop out, I say

    I, I, I, I, shot the sheriff.
Lord, I didn't shot the deputy, no
    I, I (shot the sheriff)
But I didn't shoot no deputy, yeah
    So, yeah

  • This song tells the story of a man who shoots a sheriff who is harassing him, but is wrongly accused of killing the deputy. Marley said that some of the song is true, but would not say what parts.
  • This was the last single Marley released with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, who left to go solo.
  • Eric Clapton recorded this in 1974. His version was a #1 hit in the US, the only #1 of his career. Clapton's recording gave Marley a big boost, as it exposed him to a rock audience.

    I Can't Stand It Lyrics

You've been told, so maybe it's time that you learned
You've been sold, maybe it's time that you earned

    I Can't Stand It
    You're fooling around, I can't stand it
    You're running around, I can't stand it
You're fooling around with my heart

I'll explain, Ifeel like i'm being used
Make it plain, so you don't get confused

    I can't stand it
    You're fooling around, I can't stand it
    You're running around, I can't stand it
You're fooling around with my heart

    I can't stand it
    You're running around, I can't stand it
    You're fooling around, I can't stand it
You're playing around with my heart

It's time, time for me to let you know
Ain't no crime, no crime to let your feelings show

    I can't stand it
    You're fooling around, I can't stand it
    You're playing around, I can't stand it
    You're fooling around I can't stand it
    You're running around, I can't stand it
    You're playing around, I can't stand it
    You're fooling around I can't stand it
    You're running around, I can't stand it
    You're running around, I can't stand it
Running around, I can't stand it
    You're fooling around I can't stand it
Playing around, I can't stand it
You're fooling around with my heart
You're fooling around with my heart
    My heart
    Running around
    Fooling around with my heart
Fooling around, I can't stand it
Running around, I can't stand it
Fooling around I can't stand it
Fooling around I can't stand it
Fooling around I can't stand it
Running around I can't stand it
Fooling around I can't stand it
    Running around
    Running around
    Running around
    Running around
    Running around

I Can't Stand It Song Chart
  • Clapton is rooted in Blues, which is evident on this song where he tells his lover he can't stand her cheating and isn't going to put up with it anymore.
  • Clapton added some new members to his band before recording this, including Albert Lee on guitar and Gary Brooker, formerly of Procol Harum, on keyboards. The band lasted only one album, but Clapton remained good friends with Brooker.
  • A month after this was released, Clapton developed severe ulcers and almost died. Years of alcohol and pain killers were responsible.
  • Clapton got the album title from a friend who was always asking for another ticket to his shows.
