It's So Easy Lyrics

Can't be sleepin'
Keep on wakin'
Is that the woman next to me?
Guilt is burning
Inside I'm hurting
This ain't a feeling I can't keep

So blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me

Blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
So blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me

Can't you see it, I was manipulated by it
Too little to the dawn
I had no choice in this
I was a friend she missed
She needed me to talk

So blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me

Blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
So blame it on the night
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me

Oh I'm so sorry, so sorry baby
Yeah
Ooh I got defense (oh I promise I'll be better this time, I will be better this time)
Oh I promise (I'll be better this time, I will be better this time)

Don't blame it on me
Don't blame it on me

    The kindness of man decayed

    The roar on decatur grew

    What can this city do?

    She Wants a Cowboy Lyrics

    Fancy ties, pinstripe suits
    Gold cuff links, Italian shoes
But she likes boots, She Wants a Cowboy
New York City, a Soho flat
Wall Street clean, cut hair slicked back
But she likes hats, she wants a cowboy

Riding with him in the wide open
The Cheyenne wind, no fences can hold 'em
Ropin' her dreams, Texas and smoke in his voice
    She wants a cowboy

    Motorcycles, turbo Porsches
    Sailboats, Rolls Royces
But she likes horses, she wants a cowboy

Riding with him in the wide open
The Cheyenne wind, no fences can hold 'em
Ropin' her dreams, Texas and smoke in his voice
    She wants a cowboy

Riding with him in the wide open
Cheyenne wind, no fences can hold us
Ropin' her dreams, lucky for me I was her choice

    Big Bad John Lyrics

    (Big John, big John)
Every mornin' at the mine you could see him arrive
He stood six foot six and weighed two forty five
Kinda broad at the shoulder and narrow at the hip
And everybody knew ya didn't give no lip to big John
(Big John, big John) Big Bad John (big John)

Nobody seemed to know where John called home
He just drifted into town and stayed all alone
He didn't say much, kinda quiet and shy
And if you spoke at all, you just said hi to Big John

Somebody said he came from New Orleans
Where he got in a fight over a Cajun Queen
And a crashin' blow from a huge right hand
Sent a Louisiana fellow to the promised land, big John
(Big John, big John) big bad John (big John)

Then came the day at the bottom of the mine
When a timber cracked and men started cryin'
Miners were prayin' and hearts beat fast
And everybody thought that they'd breathed their last, 'cept John

Through the dust and the smoke of this man-made hell
Walked a giant of a man that the miners knew well
Grabbed a saggin' timber, gave out with a groan
And like a giant oak tree he just stood there alone, big John
(Big John, big John) big bad John (big John)

And with all of his strength he gave a mighty shove
Then a miner yelled out, there's a light up above
And twenty men scrambled from a would-be grave
Now there's only one left down there to save, big John

With jacks and timbers they started back down
Then came that rumble way down in the ground
And then smoke and gas belched out of that mine
Everybody knew it was the end of the line for big John
(Big John, big John) big bad John (big John)

Now they never reopened that worthless pit
They just placed a marble stand in front of it
These few words are written on that stand
At the bottom of this mine lies a big, big man, big John
(Big John, big John) big bad John (big John)

(Big John, big John) big bad John (big John)

  • Jimmy Dean wrote this about fellow actor John Mentoe ("Destry Rides Again"), who was 6' 5" tall. According to Dean's roommate (at the time), the song was intended to be a joke.
  • Floyd Cramer ("Last Date") was hired to play the piano on the recording, but wound up hitting a chunk of steel with a hammer instead. It was Floyd's idea to make the switch.
  • In the US, this was a monster hit with tremendous crossover appeal. Not only did it top the Hot 100 for five weeks, it was also #1 on the Country chart for two weeks, and #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart for 10 weeks. The next song to reach the top spot on all three charts was "Rhinestone Cowboy" by Glen Campbell in 1975.
  • Jimmy Dean went on to become famous for his line of sausage products. He also had his own TV series in the '50s and '60s.
  • The original ending of "At the bottom of this mine lies one hell of a man" was deemed too controversial. (thanks, John - Bowie, MD)
  • Dean wrote this on a flight from New York to Nashville when he realized he needed another song for his recording session. (thanks, Edward Pearce - Ashford, Kent, England)
  • This was the 100th #1 song of the Rock Era, defined by Billboard as beginning in July 1955, when "Rock Around The Clock" by Bill Haley & His Comets topped the US singles chart.

    What You Wanna Hear Lyrics

I bet you're sick of them pick up lines, the same thing every Friday night
You're so hot girl, you're looking so fine, like you don't already know
They say they'll treat you right, show you the city lights
Get you sipping on something you don't even like
I guess they don't know, they're on the wrong road
I know What You Wanna Hear

Truck tires on a two lane rolling
River rushing and a warm breeze blowing in
Hair all around to the sound
Of the radio singing in the background
    Gravel grinding, while we're finding
A little spot I can make a fire in
Top popping on an ice cold beer
I know what you wanna hear
Ain't that music to your ears?

Tell me, have I got you figured out?
Baby, ain't that what you're all about?
Do I make you wanna leave this crowd and head on outta here
'Cause I can tell by that little shy smile
What I'm talking bout's a little more of your style
It'll only take a couple of miles to the

Truck tires on a two lane rolling
River rushing and a warm breeze blowing in
Hair all around to the sound
Of the radio singing in the background

    Breathless Lyrics

    Now, if you love me,
    let's please don't tease
If I can hold you then
    let me squeeze
My heart goes 'round and 'round
    My love comes tumblin' down

    You leave me Breathless
Oh, I shake all over and
    you know why
    I'm sure it's love and
    that's no lie
'cause when you call my name
    I burn like wood inflamed

    You leave me Breathless
    Oh, baby! Mm-mm. Crazy!
    You're much too much
    I can't love you enough
Now it's all right to hold me tight,
    but when you love me
    love me right

    Now, come on, baby
    Don't be shy
'cause love was meant for you and I

  • This was sinking without a trace when Dick Clark made the following offer on his show: a free copy of the "Breathless" 45 for 5 Beechnut gum wrappers and fifty cents shipping and handling. As a result "Breathless" reached the Top 10 and Beechnut outsold Wrigley for only the third time in history.
  • This was Lewis's last Top 10 hit before his career was derailed by scandal. He married the 13-year-old daughter of his cousin, and when word got out, radio stations stopped playing his songs.
  • Richard Gere's 1983 movie Breathless featured both Jerry Lee Lewis' hit of the same name and a version by the LA punk group X. In the film, Gere sings some of the song to his love interest before grabbing a gun and firing on police who are closing in on him. The credits then roll as the X version plays.

So how did X end up recording the song? Before the band performed the song on their David Letterman Show appearance, X guitarist John Doe told the host: "They called us up and said, 'We hear you do a wonderful version of this song.' And we didn't, so we BS'd our way through it and said, 'Sure, of course we do.' We ran back to the studio, rehearsed it up and recorded it in about a week."

    Paris Lyrics

    The train pulled into Paris
Like a rocket to the moon.
    The station's like a circus

    Every face is a cartoon.
    And everyone's stoned on pride
    And drunk on cheap champagne.

    Tonight this joie de vivre
Sure don't live up to its name.
Now all I can say is

I'd give this world to you
    Every rock and every stone
    Every masterpiece in Rome

And if you'd ask me to
    I'd steal the Mona Lisa
Tear it up in little pieces

And lay them at your feet
For all the world to see.
But tonight I can't give you Paris.

    Aristicats are everywhere
And the air is as thick as thieves.
She'd like nothing better than to

    Steal the breath from me.
And the tower's lights ain't shinin'
As it hangs its head in shame

At the sight of American blood
On the streets of St. Germain
    Washin' up into the Seine

And I'd give this world to you
I'd steal the crown and kingdom
    From the Queen of England

And if you'd ask me to
I'd take this city in my hands
Break it down to grains of sand

And lay them at your feet
For all the world to see.
But tonight I can't give you Paris.

  • This was written by Troy Verges, Blair Daly and Gordie Sampson in London while the trio were penning songs for the latter's record. It tells the story of an incident that happened to Verges when the three songwriters popped over to Paris for Bastille Day. "We partied until late in the night, and around three in the morning we went to get in a cab to go home and a fight broke out in the cab line," Verges recalled to Rolling Stone Country. "And for the only time in my life, I ended up getting in this fight and got knocked out cold. My nose was broken, my face a bloody mess. I woke up in an ambulance on the way to the public hospital in Paris, and my friends lost me because they didn't have the address."

"The next morning, I walked around Paris trying to find my friends and we finally get on the train back to London and I'm covered in bandages, my nose is broken and I look like I had just killed someone," he continued. "We got back to London and started writing 'Paris.' It sounds like a love song, because that's just the way the lyrics came out, but it was about that night. Faith heard it and thought it was a love song, so we were kind of scared to tell her the real story behind that song."

You're not shy, you get around
You want to fly, don't want your feet on the ground
You stay up, you won't come down
You want to live, you want to move to the sound
Got fire in your veins, burning hot, but you don't feel the pain
Your desire is insane, you can't stop until you do it again

But sometimes I wonder, as I look in your eyes
Maybe you're thinking of some other guy
But I know, yes I know how to treat you right
That's why you call me in the middle of the night, you say

It's Urgent, so urgent, so urgent, just wait and see
How urgent my love can be, it's urgent

You play tricks on my mind, you're everywhere, but you're so hard to find
    You're not warm, you're sentimental
You're so extreme, you can be so temperamental

But I'm not looking for a love that'll last
I know what I need and I need it fast
Yeah there's one thing in common that we both share
That's our need for each other anytime, anywhere

It gets urgent, so urgent, you know it's urgent
I want to tell you it's the same for me
So urgent, just wait and see, how urgent my love can be, it's urgent

You say it's urgent, make it fast, make it urgent
Do it quick, do it urgent, gotta run, make it urgent
Wait it quick, want it urgent, urgent, emergency, urgent, urgent, emergency

  • The group wanted a "Junior Walker-style" sax solo for this record. When they took a break from recording, one of the members read in New York newspaper The Village Voice that Walker was performing that night mere blocks from the recording studio. Walker accepted their offer to play, and the recording of the sax solo was swift and without a hitch.
  • Written by the Foreigner songwriting team of Mick Jones and Lou Gramm , this was the first single from 4, one of the best-selling albums of the '80s.

With an R&B sound, the song was a musical departure for the band; many listeners didn't recognize it as Foreigner when they first heard it. "A few people were trapped into liking it before they found out who it was," Jones told Sounds.
  • Before recording this album, two members of the group left, trimming the band from six members to four. This, along with the fact that it was their fourth album, explains the title, 4. (thanks, Jared - Meadville, PA)
  • Foreigner's guitarist Mick Jones produced the 4 album with Mutt Lange, who is known as a very meticulous producer with a tremendous work ethic. Jones told us: "We locked horns at the beginning, both pretty strong-minded about what we wanted to achieve, and we gradually discovered that it was the same thing. He drew a lot out of me. He was the first person that insisted on listening to every single idea I had on every single cassette tape, or any ideas I had anywhere, down on paper or lyrically, phonetically, instrumentally. He pulled songs like 'Urgent' out of that, and contributed a lot to 'Juke Box Hero.' It ended up being a great relationship." (Check out our interview with Mick Jones.)

But just a little spark and once again, I don't know

    Deep inside

I've been hopelessly lost in the fear
    Are you for real?

    Are we the only ones?

  • In Flames open Siren Charms with this track. Guitarist Björn Gelotte explained why they decided to kick off the album with this tune: "To be honest, that's not the obvious opening track for In Flames," he told Artist Direct . "We're not Dream Theater or Meshuggah, but it's got a little bit of that twist and turn in the rhythm part to a degree. That was the main idea to begin with."

"That was the first thing I played around with when I started writing that song," he continued. "Then, we thought we should put something more straightforward as a chorus in there and make it a little bit more interesting when it comes to certain things and then be more straightforward when it comes to the obvious. It's a little bit of an experiment, but when you listen to it, you'll hear it's In Flames. In the end, it turned out to be a good opener."

Aw look at daddy's baby girl
    That's daddy baby
    Little sleepy head
    Yesterday I changed your diaper
    Wiped you and powdered you.
How did you get so big?
Can't believe it now you're two
    Baby you're so precious
    Daddy's so proud of you
    Sit down bitch
If you move again I'll beat the shit out of you

    (Okay)
Don't make me wake this baby
She don't need to see what I'm about to do
Quit crying bitch, why do you always make me shout at you?
    How could you?
Just leave me and love him out the blue
    Oh, what's a matter Kim?
Am I too loud for you?
Too bad bitch, your gonna finally hear me out this time
At first, I'm like all right
You want to throw me out? that's fine!
But not for him to take my place, are you out you're mind?
This couch, this T-V, this whole house is mine!
How could you let him sleep in our bed?
    Look at Kim
    Look at your husband now!

    (No!)
    I said look at him!
He ain't so hot now is he?
    Little punk!
    (Why are you doing this?)
    Shut the fuck up!
(You're drunk! you're never going to get away at this!)
You think I give a fuck!
Come on we're going for a ride bitch
    (No!)
    Sit up front
(Well I can't just leave 'ey alone, what if she wakes up?)
    We'll be right back
Well I will you'll be in the trunk

    [Chorus: x2]
So long, bitch you did me so wrong
I don't want to go on
Living in this world without you

    You really fucked me Kim
You really did a number on me
Never knew me cheating on you would come back to haunt me
But we was kids then Kim, I was only eighteen
    That was years ago
I thought we wiped the slate clean
    That's fucked up!
    (I love you!)
Oh God my brain is racing
    (I love you!)
    What are you doing?

You think I'm ugly don't you
    (It's not that!)
    No you think I'm ugly
    (Baby)
Get the fuck away from me, don't touch me
I hate you! I hate you!
I swear to god I hate you
Oh my God I love you
How the fuck could you do this to me?
    (Sorry!)
How the fuck could you do this to me?

    [Chorus: x2]

    Come on get out
    (I can't I'm scared)
    I said get out bitch!
(Let go of my hair, please don't do this baby)
(Please I love you, look we can just take Hallie and leave)
Fuck you, you did this to us
You did it, it's your fault
Oh my God I'm crackin' up
    Get a grip Marshall
Hey remember the time we went to Brian's party?
And you were like so drunk that you threw up all over Archie
    That was funny wasn't it?
    (Yes!)
    That was funny wasn't it?
    (Yes!)
See it all makes sense, doesn't it?
You and your husband have a fight
One of you tries to grab a knife
And during the struggle he accidentally gets his Adams apple sliced
    (No!)
And while this is goin' on
His son just woke up and he just walks in
She panics and he gets his throat cut
    (Oh my God!)
So now they both dead and you slash your own throat
So now it's double homicide and suicide with no note
I should have known better when you started to act weird
We could've, hey! where you going? get back here!
You can't run from me Kim
    It's just us, nobody else!
You're only making this harder on yourself
    Ha! ha! got you!
    (Ah!)
    Ha! go ahead yell!
    Here I'll scream with you!
    Ah somebody help!
Don't you get it bitch, no one can hear you?
Now shut the fuck up and get what's comin' to you
You were supposed to love me
    Now bleed! bitch bleed!
    Bleed! bitch bleed! bleed!

    [Chorus]

    Kim Song Chart
  • Eminem raps in this song about his wife, Kimberly, who is also the mother of his daughter Hallie. They had a very volatile relationship and divorced in 2001, but reconciled and got back together in 2006 before splitting up again a short time later.
  • The song is a prequel to Eminem's 1999 track "'97 Bonnie & Clyde," where he raps about throwing Kim's body in the trunk and dumping it in a lake. "Kim" depicts what led to this point, how they got into an argument and he killed her.

It's pretty shocking stuff, especially since Eminem used the real names of his wife and daughter in the song. And while no rational person believes he wanted to kill her in real life, their relationship was fraught with turmoil. The buffer here is Eminem's character Slim Shady, who expresses his base impulses. Much of Em's early work depicts a battle between his true self (Marshall Mathers), and the volatile Shady, who he can't always control. His fans got it, but many listeners didn't and found the song misogynist and offensive. The ensuing controversy got him in the news even more, especially when he and Kim divorced, and helped sell a lot more albums.
  • Eminem says he was tripping on the drug Ecstasy when he wrote this song. "Ecstasy amplifies whatever mood you're in - love or hatred," he told Q magazine. "I've wanted to kill people on Ecstasy. And then I've had times when I've been telling people I don't know, 'I love you man!'"
  • The song "The Kids" replaces this on the edited version of the album. (thanks, Paul - North Palm Beach, FL)

  • Lead singer Anders Fridén explained to Finland's Kaaos TV why In Flames chose to title their eleventh studio album after this song. "The title, 'Siren Charms', a siren is in Greek mythology," he said. "It's like a womanly creature who sings nice songs and lures sailors to the depths. And I used that kind of image to describe something in life that will charm you, and she has to symbolize the good and the evil part, so to speak. So it covers the whole album and all the theme of the album, if there's a theme. And all the different songs are around this topic."

"[They're] not very happy songs…. I think it has a sad tone or something," he continued. "It was created under a lot of emotions and stress and inspiration as well, because of this time pressure, but it was supposed to be like that."
  • The ancient Greek myth of sea nymphs luring sailors on to rocks by their singing has been the inspiration for a number of songs. They include:

    "Sirens" by Angels & Airwaves

    "The Sirens" by Nightwish

"Song To The Siren" by Tim Buckley

"Home at Last" by Steely Dan.
  • In Flames stickman Daniel Svensson explained his drumming approach on Siren Charms to Metal Ignition: "This time, on 'Siren Charms', most of the songs weren't even written when we entered the studio, so I really had to push myself, 'cause I only had two weeks to record all the tracks and come up with fills and stuff like that," he said. "But when [guitarist] Björn [Gelotte] has a riff, or presents a riff, we both know how the drums should sound like for it to be 'In-Flames-ish.' And then I try not to overplay and make too many weird and fast drum fills. I try to make them more melodic and fit the music more than [make them] fast or whatever."

"I think it's easy to ruin a song, or ruin the balance of a song, so you have to try to write tasteful fills," Svensson added. "And that's my approach [to] drumming."
