Angel in Blue Jeans Lyrics

And though I never got her name
Or time to find out anything
I loved her just the same
And though I rode a different road
And sang a different song
I’ll love her till my last breaths gone
Like a river made of silver
Everyone came running to the scene
I was shot down in cold blood
By an Angel in Blue Jeans

Late that night she got away
I chased her to the turnpike
Then lost her where the music never plays
And though I rolled upon the stones and fell into the water
I’ll love her till my judgment day
Like a sunrise made of white lies
Everything was nothing as it seems
I was shot down in cold blood
By an angel in blue jeans

I hear voices calling all around
I keep falling down
I think my heart could pound right out of me
I see a million different ways
To never leave this maze alive

I woke up in somebody’s arms
Strange and so familiar
Where nothing could go wrong
Barely alive or nearly dead
Somehow awake in my own bed
And there you are
Like a highway headed my way
Life is but a dream
I was shot down by your love
My angel in blue jeans, oh

Angel in Blue Jeans
  • The first single from Train's Bulletproof Picasso album finds Pat Monahan singing of falling in love at first sight with an "angel in blue jeans." Monahan penned the song with the New York-based Norwegian songwriting and music production team consisting of Espen Lind and Amund Bjørklund. The same trio also wrote Train's hit tunes "Hey Soul Sister" and "Drive By."
  • The song's Western-themed video features seasoned character actor Danny Trejo (Spy Kids, Machete) going against type by playing the good guy. (Monahan is the villain). New Girl's' Hannah Simone co-stars as the "angel in blue jeans." Monahan told Entertainment Tonight he thrived playing the baddie. "I think my face is really good at being a bad guy and it's great 'cause Danny, who usually is a bad guy, ends up being the hero, which is super cool," the vocalist said.
  • Trejo had to listen to the track around 50 times so he could lip syncs the words properly for the video. "I drove everybody crazy with it, but thank God everybody likes the song. Now everybody's singing it," he joked to ET. "This song is gonna be a hit, I'm telling you. Everybody's heard it. Low riders are all bumping it pretty loud!"
  • Monahan explained the song's meaning to Radio.com : "The song is literally about dreaming about trying to find that woman that did a magical thing to you and then you wake up from the dream at the end and you're laying next to her," he said. "And then you can relax."

In school they never taught bout hamburgers or steak,
Elijah Muhammed or the welfare state.
    But I know.
And I know because of KRS-One.
Yeah and I know, and I know because of KRS-ONE.

    Because he's droppin' science,
Droppin' history with a whole leap of style and intelligence
    Yes, I know.
I know because of KRS-ONE yeah,
And I know, I know because of KRS-ONE.

Because we don't want to pay money to hear the same old sounds.
Watch him he'll take hip-hop to a higher ground.
And I know (How do I know?)
And I know because of KRS-ONE.
Yeah, and I know, and I know because of KRS-ONE.

    KRS-One
  • KRS-One is a rapper who was one of the first to infuse social commentary in his songs. He has been cited by Sublime as a major influence on both their ethos and sound: They would take many different genres and mix them together, something KRS-One was known for as well.
  • This samples two songs from KRS-One's group Boogie Down Productions: "You Must Learn" (which samples "Super Sporm" by Captain Sky) and "The Style You Haven't Done Yet." It also samples "Tough" by Kurtis Blow.

    April 29, 1992 (Miami) Lyrics

(I don't know if you can, but can you get an order for Ons, that's O-N-S,
Junior Market, the address is 1934 East Anaheim, all the windows are
Busted out,... if he wants to)

    April 26th, 1992
There was a riot on the streets
    Tell me where were you?
You were sittin' home watchin' your TV
While I was participating in some anarchy
First spot we hit it was my liquor store
I finally got all that alcohol I can't afford
With red lights flashin', time to retire
And then we turned that liquor store into a structure fire
Next stop we hit, it was the music shop,
It only took one brick to make the window drop
Finally we got our own P.A.
Where do you think I got this guitar that you're hearing today?

(Call fire... respond Mobil station. Alamidos in Anaheim, it's uhh flaming up good)

When we returned to the pad to unload everything
It dawned on me that I need new home furnishings
So once again we filled the van until it was full
Since that day my livin' room's been much more comfortable
Cause everybody in the hood has had it up to here
It's getting harder, and harder, and harder each and every year
Some kids went in a store with their mother
I saw her when she came out she was gettin' some Pampers
They said it was for the black man
They said it was for the mexican
But not for the white man
But if you look at the streets, it wasn't about Rodney King
It's this fucked-up situation and these fucked-up police
It's about comin' up and stayin' on top
And screamin' 1-8-7 on a mother fuckin' cop
It's ain't in the paper, it's on the wall
    National guard
    Smoke from all around

(Units be advised of an attempt 211 to arrest now at 938 Temple, 9-3-8
Temple, many subjects with bats trying to get inside the CB's House, they're trying to kill him)

Cuz' as long as I'm alive, I'ma live illegal

    Let it burn
Wanna let it burn, wanna let it burn
    Wanna wanna let it burn
    (I feel insane)
Riots on the streets of Miami
Whoa, riots on the streets of Chicago
On the streets of Long Beach
    In San Francisco
Riots on the streets of Kansas City

    April 29, 1992 (Miami)
  • This is about the riots that ensued after the Rodney King trial in Los Angeles, California. King was a black motorist who was beaten by four white police officers after they pulled him over. The incident was videotaped by someone who lived nearby and became a huge news story, dealing with issues of police brutality and race. The case went to trial in suburban Los Angeles, where the all-white jury acquitted the officers. Just hours after the verdict on April 29, 1992, riots broke out in the black sections of the city, prompting King's famous remark: "Can't we all just get along?"
  • In the lyrics, lead singer Brad Nowell says, "April 26, 1992" when referring to the date of the riots. This was a mistake - the date in the title is correct. (thanks, Curtis - Ottawa, Canada)
  • This contains samples of actual LAPD radio communications.
  • Miami is the first city mentioned in a long list of American cities where riots occurred. In the Doors song "Peace Frog," Jim Morrison did something similar when he named cities where the band ran into trouble with the law, including Miami.
  • This features samples from "La Di Da Di" by Doug E. Fresh featuring MC Ricky D, "Original Gangster of Hip-Hop" by Just Ice, and "Shook One (Part 1)" by Mobb Deep.

  • The sixth single from Wilkinson's debut studio album Lazers Not Included, the song peaked at #25 on the UK Singles Chart, making it the Drum and Bass producer 's second Top 40 single after "Afterglow."
  • The song features vocals by Tom Cane. The British singer-songwriter previously reached the UK Top 40 as a guest vocalist on Drumsound & Bassline Smith's #34 charting single "Through the Night" in mid-2012. Cane also has a number of notable songwriting credits, including co-penning the title track for Cheryl Cole's third studio album A Million Lights, as well as Matrix and Futurebound's UK Top 10 hit "Control."
  • The song's music video was shot in various locations in Belfast, including the Good Shepherd Church on the Ormeau Road. A scene showing a partially clothed couple kissing on the church altar had to be removed after priests complained. The diocese stated it had not granted permission for a scene of that nature to be filmed there.

    Saw Red Lyrics

    Girls don't go crazy

    Woman, hold your man tight

Every day I love him just a little bit more,
A little bit more, a little bit more
Everyday I love him just a little bit more
And he loves me the same

Every day I love her just a little bit more,
A little bit more, little bit more
Everyday I love her just a little bit more
And she loves me the same

Baby if you want to get on

Oh baby if you want to get off

It makes no sense at all

    I Saw Red

I saw red, I saw red, one more sacred lover that

    I shot dead

Everyday I wake up just a little bit more
Feelin' like a dog out on the yard
Because that's just how we are

Everyday I wonder if it's over
When I wake up realizin' that we hate
    And brake down the war

You say it's black, but I can't believe you

And if you say it's white,
You say I'm tryin' to deceive you

And I'm aware of the high and the low,
And I'd be waiting for you in the middle but I just lack control

Baby if you want to get low

Oh baby if you want to get high

It makes no sense at all

    I saw red

I saw red, I saw red, one more sacred lover that

    I shot dead

    Girls, don't go crazy,
    Girls, don't go crazy,
Oh girls, don't go crazy when the men use you, oh

Oh, woman hold your man tight
If it makes you feel right, it's your own life

    Saw Red
  • No Doubt lead singer Gwen Stefani sang on this, making it into a duet running 1:57; she used to go out with Sublime lead singer Brad Nowell. On the Sublime: Stories, Tales, Lies & Exaggerations DVD, Stefani explained that Nowell wrote this in the studio and did his vocal in one take. (thanks, Vanessa - Covina, CA)
  • This was recorded before either Sublime or No Doubt were famous. Both groups rose to fame in the mid-'90s on the Southern California punk scene that also featured Green Day and the Offspring and was fathered by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
  • This is based on a popular Jamaican song called "She's Mine" by the dancehall singer Barrington Levy. Sublime recorded it as a tribute to Levy, changing the lyrics but keeping the music pretty much intact. After Sublime lead singer Brad Nowell died, their bass player and drummer formed the Long Beach Dub All-Stars, and recorded a version of this song with Levy. (thanks, Mitch - Colton, CA)
  • Robbin' The Hood was Sublime's second album, released on their independent label, Skunk Records. This song was a hit with college radio, but Sublime didn't break through to the mainstream until their next (self-titled) album, which was released in 1996 after they signed with MCA Records.
  • An acoustic version appears on Bradley Nowell & Friends, released in 1998. It's just Brad and a guitar.
  • In October of 2008 this song was covered by Rome Ramirez for YouTube's "Rawsession," featuring Sublime bassist Eric Wilson. (thanks, Logan - Ottawa, KS)

  • Written by Abbey Road session man Laurie Marshall, recorded under the pseudonym of Paul St. John and released on the Pye label, this strangely appealing piece of nonsense takes its title from the 1953 book by self-styled contactee (and con man) George Adamski. It was though clearly influenced by the works of Erich Von Däniken, as was the monster Chris de Burgh track "A Spaceman Came Traveling" of three years later. Perfect Lyrics

    Sometimes is never quite enough
If you're flawless, then you'll win my love
Don't forget to win first place
Don't forget to keep that smile on your face

    Be a good boy
    Try a little harder
    You've got to measure up
    And make me prouder

How long before you screw it up
How many times do I have to tell you to hurry up
With everything I do for you
The least you can do is keep quiet

    Be a good girl
You've gotta try a little harder
    That simply wasn't good enough
    To make us proud

    I'll live through you
I'll make you what I never was
If you're the best, then maybe so am I
Compared to him compared to her
I'm doing this for your own damn good
You'll make up for what I blew
What's the problem, why are you crying

    Be a good boy
    Push a little farther now
    That wasn't fast enough
    To make us happy
We'll love you just the way you are
    If you're Perfect

    Perfect
  • The lyrics are about a parent who gently, and then more forcefully, pushes his/her child to excel. Alanis was a child in show business, appearing on the Nickelodeon show You Can't Do That On Television when she was just 10 years old, so she had lot of early experience with expectations. She has explained that the song is not about her relationship with her parents, but the pressures of society, which will love you as long as you're perfect.
  • This was the breakthrough song on the Jagged Little Pill album, which Alanis wrote with the producer Glen Ballard. They spent a lot of time trying to make Morissette's analytical lyrics work in the context of songs, and it was in the middle of work on another song that something clicked. They abandoned that song and cranked out "Perfect" in about 20 minutes. They recorded a demo of the song that night, and it was this original demo that ended up on the album. Alanis, who is an investigative, logical type, had a hard time understanding how this song could appear so quickly. She said she was "scared," since she had no explanation for it. Once the song was completed, she and Ballard found their groove and were able to complete the album.
