Good Kisser

The first single from Usher's eighth album finds the R&B singer giving praise to a lady who is a great kisser. Her smooching skills are not restricted to Usher's mouth as testified by the lipstick on his leg.

"Women can enjoy it because it's fun," Usher told Billboard magazine collage of the song's come-ons and pick-up lines. "And it's easier for a guy because it's something they can just talk and say."

The sultry make out ode was written by Usher. It was produced by:

Los Angeles-based Turkish-American record producer "Oak" Felder and his partner, Andrew "Pop" Wansel, who have produced several of Nicki Minaj's singles including "Your Love" and "Right By My Side." They also helmed Big Sean's sex ode "Marvin & Chardonnay."

Ronald "Flip" Colson, whose other credits include Rihanna's "Numb."

Jameel "JProof" Roberts, who also contributed to the writing of Nicki Minaj's "Right By My Side."

Newcomer Terry "Tru" Sneed, for whom this is his first major credit.

The song features a throwback sparse bass guitar and drums. "Real music is taking a stand," Usher said. "Artists are going after real instrumentation as opposed to electronic, synthesized music."

It was Pop Wansel who originally came up with the song. He recalled to Vibe magazine: "A lot of times when I wake up singing something random, it turns into a song. So I woke up one morning just signing 'Don't nobody kiss it like you baby,' and I was just singing it all day long."

"And then Flip, who also co-produced on the record came by my house and heard me," he continued. "Then, he started humming it, and I was like looking for this imaginary song on the internet because I really thought it was somebody else's [laughs]. And, that same day I went to sleep with my iTunes on and I woke up to that Foster Sylvers sample playing on my computer."

"Later that night, I went to the studio and just put it all down, then forgot about it," Wansel added. "About six months later, we were going through old ideas on my computer and that one came up and I was like 'Oh s--t, this is crazy.'"

Once Usher got hold of the song, he made some lyrical changes, including altering the word "suck" to "kiss" in order to make it more radio-friendly. Wansel told Vibe: "At first, we were thinking Usher had to be the one to make this song about... oral pleasure."

"That was in play, believe that, that was in play," he added. "But he actually came in and scaled it back some. Not much, you still have that risqué factor. He didn't want to change that at all but he changed a couple of words that I had wrote. Let's just say he made it less X-rated [laughs]."

This contains a percussive sample taken from Foster Sylvers' 1974 cover of Bobby Bloom's song "Montego Bay."

Laichzeit

This, like most Rammstein songs, is about sex. The protagonist, "Der Fisch," is supposed to represent man's inner desire to reproduce through... sex. We all have this longing, no matter how much we try to hide it by acting "civilized." At the end of the song all the people "Der Fisch" screwed around with don't want him anymore, which shows that it was all senseless and without deep purpose. The point is that deep down we are all animals in a way, and sex isn't something necessarily "noble" at all. (thanks, Roc - Houston, TX)

Proceeds from the song went to the ACM Lifting Lives Foundation.

Underwood told The Hollywood Reporter the story of the song. "I wanted to write a song for this event," she said. "I kept it to myself because you never know how things are going to turn out. If I told everybody I wanted to write a song and I had writer's block, that would be terrible."

"I had a writing date with some amazing songwriter friends of mine," Underwood continued. "I tossed out the idea that we should try and chase something for a few minutes and see if it snowballs and becomes something we love. We played around on guitar. I started mumbling gibberish and humming tunes. None of it made sense. If someone walked in and saw what we were doing it would have looked ridiculous. We started humming and the words popped out and the song really wrote itself. You just have to be able to make sense of it all and put it in some kind of order."

This borrows its structure from Led Zeppelins "Going To California." During a Hurricane Katrina Benefit concert, Pearl Jam played some songs together with Robert Plant, and while playing this one they segued over to Plant's "Going to California."

A Sky Full Of Stars

This song was recorded during the sessions for Ghost Stories with Avicii. The Swedish EDM artist was invited by Chris Martin to play the piano and his imprint can be heard on the song's majestic piano lines. Speaking with BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, Martin, who usually tinkles the ivories on Coldplay's recordings admitted he felt like he was cheating on the band when he asked the Swede to play the piano instead of him.

Chris Martin said on Fuse: "What that song represents on Ghost Stories is the release after you've climbed the mountain - after you've done anything challenging. That's why that song is so unashamedly happy and danceable: because that's what it needed to be. I love singing it. I know we didn't break the mold, but it's just so fun to play."

A house-influenced piano-centric song with pounding bass drum, this is the closest Coldplay have come to recording a dance track.

Avicii also produced the track along with the band and Ghost Stories producers Paul Epworth, Daniel Green and Rik Simpson.

The song received its TV première on the April 29, 2014 episode of BBC 2's Later... with Jools Holland and four days later the band performed it on Saturday Night Live.

Martin told the hosts on The Kevin & Bean Show that after coming up with the idea for this song, he did something different. "What happens with our songs generally is that they get sent from the universe, however they come," he said. "I don't know where they come from, in the middle of the night they come through and I take it to the rest of the band and it gets layered up, like a car being built or something."

But this time around, he took the song straight to Avicii and had it produced by the Swedish EDM mastermind.

This was the last song Coldplay added to Ghost Stories and the band appreciated the "fresh injection" by Avicii. "The rest of the band was very gracious, as usual," Martin told Kevin and Bean. "So they said, 'We trust you and let's keep rolling.'"

Filmed by movie director Mat Whitecross (The Road to Guantanamo, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, The Shock Doctrine), the song's music video shows Chris Martin walking through King Street in Newtown, Sydney kitted out like a one-man band, before being joined by the rest of Coldplay. 250 fans were also invited to march from Newtown's Courthouse Hotel.

Speaking during a Beat x Beat webcast, Chris Martin explained how the song was created. "It needs to be about unconditional love," he said. "There will be a point where you'll be like, 'OK, I got that out of my system. Now let's go dancing.'"

Martin added that he was listening to Katy Perry's music when he was writing Ghost Stories. He borrowed the way the Californian songstress' tunes have a repetitive chord pattern with a sing-along melody over the top for this track.

In the book Scar Tissue, Anthony Kiedis explains that this song is about his drug addiction. The "slide" is how far he will get back into his drug addiction, since he would stop doing drugs for a time, then get right back into it. Silence

This trance anthem finds the Canadian electronic music group Delerium linking up with Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan. Originally released with a slower tempo on the 1997 album Karma, notable DJs such as Tiësto and Airscape produced remixes, which generated interest in clubs. It got promoted as an uptempo vocal trance song and as a result of increased airplay became an international hit three years later.

Asked during a Reddit AMA how the collaboration came about, McLachlan replied: "I wanted to challenge myself. It was a genre I didn't know much about, and I knew the boys from also living in Vancouver, and they asked me to be a part of it, so I thought it would be fun."

The song featured on the soundtrack for the 1999 movie Brokedown Palace starring Claire Danes and Kate Beckinsale.

Trenchtown Rock

Trenchtown is a poor area in Kingston, Jamaica where Marley grew up. After a hurricane destroyed many of the homes there in 1951, a new settlement formed around a dump site. It was a difficult way of life, and Marley wrote this about how music was an escape from the poverty and desperation of Trenchtown.

Sublime covered this on their 1997 album Second Hand Smoke. Lead singer Bradley Nowell was a huge fan of Marley and referenced him in many of Sublime's songs. (thanks, Megan - Saratoga, NY, for above 2)

Down close their Down IV - Part Two EP with this epic track, which features what sounds like a ukulele passage by guitarist Pepper Keenan. Vocalist Phil Anselmo told Artist Direct about the recording of the song. "On the last day of tracking guitars, I said to Pepper, 'We need this part,'" he recalled. "It was a reminder because it was something we talked about plenty."

"Sure enough, he brought out this smaller guitar," he continued. "It wasn't really a ukulele [Laughs]. It was a miniature guitar, and I'm not even sure how many strings it had on it. Yes, right then and there on the spot, we gave him as much silence as we could because we were all in the room and pretty excited. We were laughing and talking in the background as he was telling us to 'Shut up, please!' He came up with that little part. It was recorded within an hour or so."

"While he was tracking that, I was generally getting the repeating hook over and over in my head," Anselmo added. "I tracked my part. Really, that whole piece came out automatically, organically, and fast. S--t, I think it took us two hours to do."

The Bacchanalia were Roman festivals in honor of the wine god Bacchus. They were characterized by drunkenness and licentiousness, hence 'Bacchanalian orgy' for any uninhibited drunken revelry.

Wonder wrote this to celebrate the birth of his daughter, Aisha. In 2005, Aisha (last name: Morris, which is Wonder's real name) sang a duet with her dad on his song "How Will I Know." (thanks, Brett - Edmonton, Canada)

The baby crying in the beginning is Aisha. Also, at the end of the song, Stevie says, "Come on, Aisha. Get out of the water, Baby," which is a memorable moment with Stevie and his daughter.

Wonder had Aisha with Yolanda Simmons, who he mentions near the end of the song: "Londi it could have not been done, without you who conceived the one." (thanks, Annabelle - Eugene, OR)

Wonder performed the harmonica part, which was mostly improvised. It came out sounding very good.

In 2015, Wonder was honored with the TV special Stevie Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life - An All-Star Grammy Salute. This was performed at the ceremony by Ne-Yo, who was joined midway through the song by Aisha Morris, surprising Wonder, who didn't expect to hear his daughter's voice.

The song's comic book-themed lyric video finds the guys dressed as superheroes saving a red-haired girl. The clip ties into the anti-bullying effort the band launched in support of Ashton's sister after the 5SOS member tweeted, "Can't believe people pick on my sister at school, one day they will realise individuality is a beautiful thing, I love you Lauren, be tough." Fans took hold of the tweet and #5SOSFamLovesLauren immediately trended worldwide.

Director Sophia Ray told MTV News the lyric clip was inspired by the 5SOS fanbase. "We wanted her to signify all of their fans," she said, "all the people that they're serving through this anti-bullying campaign."
