Let Go For Tonight Lyrics

Fell from the sky
We fell from the sky and started walking
Leavin' our footprints on the ground

It might be a prayer
Or maybe a piece of conversation
Wherever we go we make a sound

So I call your name, the only thing I know
Is I need you here, will you be gone forever?
All that I know, all that I know is we're here tonight
Turn off the lights

Let Go For Tonight baby
Let love in your life and be shown (turn off the lights)
Let go for tonight baby, who needs sleep tonight?
I need to let it go, let it go
Let it go, let it go, turn off the lights
Let love in your life baby, who needs sleep tonight?

I wanna drive
I wanna drive into the open
Lookin' for reasons I can't find

So I call your name, the only thing I know
Is I need you here, will you be gone forever?
All that I know, all that I know is we're here tonight
Turn off the lights

Let go for tonight baby
Let love in your life and be shown (turn off the lights)
Let go for tonight baby, who needs sleep tonight?
I need to let it go, let it go
Let it go, let it go, turn off the lights
Let love in your life baby, who needs sleep tonight?

I need to let go, let go
Let go, let go
I need to let go, let go
Before we're gone, gone, gone

So I call your name, the only thing I know
Is I need you here, will you be gone forever?
All that I know, all that I know
Is I need you here, will you be gone forever?

Let go for tonight baby
Let love in your life and be shown (turn off the lights)
Let go for tonight baby, who needs sleep tonight?
I need to let it go, let it go
Let it go, let it go, turn off the lights
Let love in your life baby, who needs sleep tonight?

Let go, let go
Let go, let go
I need to let go, let go
(Before we go, go, go)

Fell from the sky
We fell from the sky and started walking
Leavin' our footprints on the ground

Let Go For Tonight
  • The original version of this anthemic ode to all-nighters featured on Foxes' Warrior EP, which was released in May 2012. She then re-recorded the tune, sprucing up the original stripped down, piano-led production for her second single to be released from Glorious.
  • Foxes wrote the song with singer-songwriter Kid Harpoon, whose other credits include Florence + the Machine's "Shake It Out," Calvin Harris' "Sweet Nothing" and Jessie Ware's "Wildest Moments."
  • The song's music video involves Foxes and several others in a food fight. It was the singer's love of cakes the encouraged her to pitch the idea to record bosses. "I have had this idea for a music video for years," she told The Birmingham Mail. "It was a dream to go into a record company and for them to ask me what I want to do for the video. I said 'can I shoot cake out of a cannon and could you make that happen?' It was like an eight year old was in control."

    Sky Blue And Black Lyrics

In the calling out to one another
Of the lovers up and down the strand
In the sound of the waves and the cries
Of the seagulls circling the sand

In the fragments of the songs
Carried down the wind from some radio
In the murmuring of the city in the distance
    Ominous and low

I hear the sound of the world where we played
And the far too simple beauty of the promises we made

    If you ever need holding
Call my name, and I'll be there
    If you ever need holding
And no holding back, I'll see you through
    Sky Blue And Black

Where the touch of the lover ends
And the soul of the friend begins
There's a need to be separate and a need to be one
    And a struggle neither wins

But you gave me the world I was in
And a place I could make a stand
I could never see how you doubted me
When I'd let go of your hand

Yeah, and I was much younger then
And I must have thought that I would know
If things were going to end

    And the heavens were rolling
Like a wheel on a track
    And our sky was unfolding
    And it'll never fold back
    Sky blue and black

And I'd have fought the world for you
(I'd have fought the world for you)
If I thought that you wanted me to
Or put aside what was true or untrue (true or untrue)
If I'd know that's what you needed
What you needed me to do

But the moment has passed by me now
You have put away my pride
And just come through for you somehow

    If you ever need holding
Call my name, I'll be there
    If you ever need holding
And no holding back, I'll see you through

You're the color of the sky
Reflected in each store-front window pane
You're the whispering and the sighing of my tires in the rain

You're the hidden cost and the thing that's lost
    In everything I do
Yeah and I'll never stop looking for you
In the sunlight and the shadows

And the faces on the avenue
    That's the way love is
    That's the way love is
    That's the way love is
    Sky, sky blue and black

Third Week in the Chelsea Lyrics

    Third Week in the Chelsea
    By Jorma Kaukonen
Sometimes I feel like I am leaving life behind
My hands are moving faster than the movement of my mind
Thoughts and generations of my dreams are yet unborn
So we go on moving trying to make this image real
I hope that I will find them 'fore my moving gets too worn
Straining every nerve not knowing what we really feel
If only I could live to see the dawning of the dawn

Straining every nerve ending and everybody sees
That what they read in the Rolling Stone has really come to be
And trying to avoid a taste of that reality

Showed to me a face I didn't know at all
On an early New York mornin' a mirror in the hall
When I looked into the mouth there was nothing left inside
Lines were drawn around a pair of eyes that opened wide

So I walked into the little room and whistled like a sigh
As dawn light closed around me my head was still in gear
Thinking thoughts of playing more and singing loud and clear
Trying to reach a friend somewhere and make that person smile
Maybe pull myself away from that old lonesome mile

That often comes to haunt me in the morning
All my friends keep telling me that it would be a shame
To break up such a grand success and tear apart a name
Emptiness ain't where it's at and neither's feeling pain

Time is getting late now and the sun is getting low
But all I know is what I feel whenever I'm not playin'
Well now what is going to happen now is anybody's guess
If I can't spend my time with love I guess I need a rest
And sunshine's waiting for me a little further down the roadMy body's getting tired of carryin' another's load

    Third Week in the Chelsea
  • This Jorma Kaukonen written song is about the band's stay in New York City's Chelsea Hotel. Bassist Jack Casady recalled to Uncut magazine: "That's the story of us all spending three weeks in the Chelsea Hotel, and coming to grips with the weight of all those years there'd been, and how we had all been at it non-stop since 1965. I mean, every day."
  • The Chelsea Hotel has been immortalized in several other songs over the years. They include Leonard Cohen's "Chelsea Hotel #2," where the Canadian describes meeting a famous singer in one its elevators that led to a sexual encounter and Bob Dylan's "Sara" in which he reveals that he was, "Stayin' up for days in the Chelsea Hotel writin' 'Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands' for you."
  • Will Scarlett, formerly of Jefferson Airplane spin-off Hot Tuna, guested on harmonica.

    I'm A King Bee
  • This was originally recorded by Blues musician Slim Harpo, who was long a favorite of Mick Jagger. The Stones faithfully reproduced Harpo's version, even including all of his spoken asides. Mick Jagger didn't understand why listeners would choose the Stones version over Harpo's. He even stated in 1968, "I mean what's the point in listening to us do 'I'm A King Bee' when you can listen to Slim Harpo doing it?" (thanks, Joel - Chicago, IL)

    30 Minute Break
  • The Luka State is an English band from Winsford, Cheshire comprising lead vocalist and guitarist Conrad Ellis, bassist Sam Bell and drummer Jess Whitmore. This is their second single – it was initially released independently as a double A-Side with "Matter Of Time" on limited edition vinyl on August 22, 2013.
  • The song was produced by Sam Williams, who recorded Supergrass's 1995 first album, I Should Coco, then worked with their lead singer Gaz Coombes on his 2012 debut solo release Here Come The Bombs.
  • The song's music video was directed by cinematographer Oliver Kember and explores the issue of domestic violence against men. Kember told The Hollywood Reporter : "The idea for a domestic violence short film really came from the band. They had a very strong narrative idea within the lyrics of the song. We wanted the video to appear as gritty as possible, so we actually filmed the whole thing in a very guerilla fashion."
  • The clip stars Thomas Brodie-Sangster as the the victim of the domestic abuse, He is best known for playing Jojen Reed in HBO's Game of Thrones and has also had roles in Love Actually, Nowhere Boy, and Nanny McPhee. "I really liked the fact that the script shines a light on a very real problem," he told THR. "Domestic violence is never spoken about, but female-on-male aggression is practically invisible. Nobody, male or female, should have to be scared in their own home."

    I Saw Her Again Lyrics

I Saw Her Again last night
And you know that I shouldn't
To string her along's just not right
    If I couldn't I wouldn't

But what can I do, I'm lonely too
And it makes me feel so good to know
    You'll never leave me
I'm in way over my head

Now she thinks that I love her
    Because that's what I said
Though I never think of her
But what can I do, I'm lonely too

And it makes me feel so good to know
    You'll never leave me
Every time I see that girl
You know I want to lay down and die

But I really need that girl
    Don't know why I'm livin' a lie
It makes me want to cry
I saw her again last night

And you know that I shouldn't
To string her along's just not right
    If I couldn't I wouldn't
But what can I do, I'm lonely too

And it makes me feel so good to know
    You'll never leave me

But what can I do, I'm lonely too
And it makes me feel so good to know
    You'll never leave me
Every time I see that girl

You know I want to lay down and die
But I really need that girl
    Don't know why I'm livin' a lie

    I Saw Her Again
  • This song was written by John Phillips, the leader of the Mamas And The Papas, about the affair between his wife, Michelle Phillips (a Mamas And Papas member), and Denny Doherty (also a Mamas And Papas member), which ultimately led to Michelle Phillips' unceremonious dismissal from the band and John and Michelle's divorce. Ironically enough, Doherty received a songwriting credit. The sessions for this album must have been as uncomfortable as were the sessions when Fleetwood Mac was recording the Rumours album 10 years later and the personal relationships in that band were imploding. (thanks, Dave - St. Paul, MN)
  • Lou Adler produced this song, and Bones Howe was the engineer for the session. According to Bones, the part around the 1:45 mark where "I saw her" is repeated twice was a happy accident. Said Bones: "We were punching vocals in, and when we came to that part where the rhythm stops and the group goes, 'I saw her again last night,' I just punched in early. They came in early, and so we stopped. And then we went back and started again, and I punched in at the beginning of the vocal, they started two bars later or whatever it was. And when I played it back, the vocal went, 'I saw her - I saw her again.' It was a mistaken punch. And Lou said, 'I love it! Leave it in.' It was an error, it was a mistake. But Lou was wise enough, it caught his ear and he left it. And I learned something from that. You go with your gut. If something catches - they could be - there are wonderful mistakes that happen in the studio and you have to learn to catch those when they happen and use them."

    Better Lyrics

There's a bottle on the shelf, talkin' to me
Sayin', "Come over here, you can have a drink"
We can make it through this lonely night together

But that's a road I don't wanna go back down
And I hate myself for what I'm thinkin' now
Hey, it's just one night, it's not like it's forever
I just want to feel Better

I just want to feel good, feel alright
Feel anything but what I feel tonight
I just want to move on with my life
And put the pieces back together
I just want to feel better

All these pictures running through my head
From the way he loved to the way he left
Not a single day goes by, I don't miss him

When the lonely gets to be too much
I try to kill the pain with a stranger's touch
Though I know I won't forget him altogether
I just want to feel better

I just want to feel good, feel alright
Feel anything but what I feel tonight
I just want to move on with my life
And put the pieces back together
I just want to feel better

    I know there's gonna come a day
When he's still gone and it's okay

I just want to feel good, feel alright
Feel anything but what I feel tonight
I just want to move on with my life
And put the pieces back together
I just want to feel better
I just want to feel better

    Better
  • This song about a woman who has experienced a loss in her life was written by Dave Berg, Deanna Bryant and Candy Cameron. Released as the second single from Cut to Impress, it peaked at #46 on the Country chart.
  • The heartbroken woman in the song resorts to things that she is not necessarily proud of, in order to make her feel better. Rose told American Songwriter magazine the tune has resonated with many of her fans. "It was overwhelming to hear these stories of loss and struggle from strangers but it was so beautiful at the same time to know that the message in that song carried so far and touched so many people," she said.

"I chose to cut that song because upon my first listen I reared up," Rose added. "Maybe it was something going on in my life at that time that made it more poignant but I knew that I wanted to share that relatable feeling with other people in my music. That's what it's all about."

    Bow River Lyrics

Listen now to the wind babe
    Listen now to the rain
Feel that water lickin' at my feet again
I don't want to see this town no more

Wastin' my days on a factory floor
First thing you know I'll be back in Bow River again

Anytime you want babe, you can come around
But only six days separates me and the great top end
I been working hard, tweleve hours a day
And the money I saved won't buy my youth again

Goin' for the heat babe, and a tropical rain
In a place where no man's puttin' on the dog for me
Waitin' on the weekend, set o' brand new tyres
And back in Bow River's just where I want to be

Listen now to the wind babe
    Listen now to the rain
Feel that water lickin' at my feet again
I don't want to see this town no more

Too many years made up my mind to go or stay
    Right to my dying day
I don't want to see another engine line
Too many years and I owe my mind

First set o' wheels headin' back Bow River again
First thing you know I'll be back in Bow River again

Got the motor runnin', got the rest of my days
Sold everything I owned for a song
So anytime you want babe, you can come around
But don't leave it too late you just might find me gone

Listen now to the wind babe . . .

    I don't need the score
    I'm goin' through the door
Gonna tell the man I don't want no more
Pick up a fast car and burn my name in the road

One week two week maybe even more
Piss all my money up against the damn wall

  • Like most of Cold Chisel's songs, this is about the working class ("I've been working hard, twelve hours a day..."). It describes the needs and wants of the working class man - the song has a very Aussie feel to it. (thanks, hayley - vic, Australia)
  • The members of Cold Chisel were: Jimmy Barnes (lead vocals), Ian Moss (vocals and lead guitar), Steve Prestwich (drums), Phil Small (bass) and Don Walker (keyboards). All members have gone on to have strong solo careers, with Barnes doing the strongest. He has a long list of albums, and toured globally supporting artists such as Bon Jovi. Barnes is the brother of John Swan (Swanee) who recorded as a solo artist, then went on to do the lead vocals for the "Party Boys." (thanks, Bart - Cairns, Australia)
  • This appears on Cold Chisel's live albums Last Stand (1983) and Ringside (2003). The song was also recorded in 1991 by Ian Moss on his second solo album Worlds Away. His 2006 release Six Strings features a 7-minute solo acoustic rendition of the song. Jimmy Barnes included a version on his 2001 live release Raw with a guest appearance from Ian Moss as well. Towards the end of Barnes' live rendition where the song goes into, "I don't need the score, I'm going out the door..." he stumbles for a second and forgets the words. • Pitbull's followup single to his worldwide smash "Timber" is another blend of rap, EDM and country. This time Pitbull teams up with girl group G.R.L, who were formed by choreographer Robin Antin. They were originally intended to to be the new line up of The Pussycat Dolls following their disbandment in 2010. Artin later reformed the quintet as a brand-new group with a different name. One of the G.R.L members, Lauren Bennett, previously featured on LMAFO's smash hit "Party Rock Anthem."
  • Some of the scenes for the song's music video were shot at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles and others at the Viscaya Gardens in Miami.

    Coming up beyond belief
    On this coronary thief
    More than just a leitmotif
    More chaotic, no relief
I'll describe the way I feel
    Weeping wounds that never heal
Can the savior be for real
Or are you just my seventh seal?

    No hesitation, no delay
You come on just like Special K
Just like I swallowed half my stash
I never ever want to crash
    No hesitation, no delay
You come on just like special K
Now you're back with dope demand
    I'm on sinking sand
    Gravity
    No escaping gravity
    Gravity
    No escaping, not for free
I fall down, hit the ground
    Make a heavy sound
Every time you seem to come around

I'll describe the way I feel
    You're my new Achilles heel
Can this savior be for real
Or are you just my seventh seal?

    No hesitation, no delay
You come on just like special K
Just like I swallowed half my stash
I never ever want to crash
    No hesitation, no delay

    Hey Girl Lyrics

    Girl, hold my hand
    Girl, I know you'll understand
That I've been waiting for a long, long time
Think every thing's gonna turn out fine

    Hey, hey, it's alright
    Hey, hey, it's alright
    Hey, hey, my, my, my
    Hey, hey, yeah, yeah

    Girl, treat me kind
And girl, I think you'll find
That no one can love you better than me
Close your eyes and I think you'll see

    Hey, hey, it's alright
    Hey, hey, my, my, my
    Hey, hey, come on children
    Hey, hey, my, oh, my

When I think of what I've missed
    It makes me laugh inside
All the girls that I ain't kissed
    Just to keep my pride
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

    So girl, look around
And girl, see what we've found
We've found something we can't fight
Don't think twice it'll be alright now

    Hey, hey, it's alright
Hey, hey, I said my, my, my, yeah
    Hey, hey, it's alright
Hey, yeah, hey, yeah, it's alright

    Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, yeah, hey, yeah, it's alright
Hey, ow, hey, ooh, it's alright
Hey, ooh, hey, yeah it's alright

Hey hey, c'mon shake your hand
Hey, hey, alright a promised land
Hey, hey, yeah woh, it's alright
Hey, hey, you know what I mean, it's alright
Well, I say alright alright, alright

    Hey Girl
  • This commercially-leaning single was written by Small Faces band members Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane. It was a compromise between the band and their manager Don Arden as Arden wanted a very radio-friendly song. Keyboardist Ian McLagan recalled to Uncut magazine: "Just a little pop song. Steve and Ronnie were being shrewd. After that, they were the writers. I was music musically frustrated in the studio at this point, but live we were raw and raucous."
  • Released on May 6, 1966 with the B-side "Almost Grown," the song peaked at #10 on the UK singles chart.
  • McLagan remembered to Uncut: "In those early days, the bridge of 'Hey Girl,' which goes to a minor key became a pattern. Steve would ask me to play a solo on piano and organ for a new song and I'll be thinking, 'hang on haven't played this bridge before?' They were writing very fast."

    Always On My Mind Lyrics

    Maybe I didn't love you
Quite as often as I could have
    Maybe I didn't treat you
Quite as good as I should have
If I made you feel second best
Girl I'm sorry I was blind

But you were Always On My Mind
You were always on my mind

    Maybe I didn't hold you
    All those lonely, lonely times
I guess I never told you
That I am so happy that you're mine
If I made you feel second best
Girl I'm sorry I was blind

But you were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn't died
Give me, give me one more chance
    To keep you satisfied
    I'll keep you satisfied

Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
But you were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

    Always On My Mind
  • This was written by the songwriting trio of Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson Thompson. It was originally recorded by Brenda Lee in 1971.
  • This song tells the story of a man who admits that he didn't always do the things he should have to show appreciation for his lady, but wants her to know he was always thinking about her.
  • The Country Music Association named this Single Of The Year in 1982. It also did very well at the Grammys, taking the awards for Song Of The Year, Best Male Country Vocal Performance, and Best Country Song. It was the first country song to take Song Of The Year, and it wasn't until the 2007 ceremonies when another country act got one: The Dixie Chicks for "Not Ready To Make Nice."
  • Elvis Presley recorded this in 1972. His version reached #9 in the UK. A cover version by The Pet Shop Boys made UK #1 in December 1987. They had released it after performing it on a BBC Elvis tribute show. (thanks, Adam - Dewsbury, England)
  • Levi's used this in a 2004 commercial where a guy goes to great lengths to retrieve his jeans. He brings his old girlfriend a flower as a peace offering, then grabs his jeans and leaves while she puts it in water.
  • In the January 2006 issue of Esquire magazine, B.B. King said that this was his favorite song.
  • In 1987, The Pet Shop Boys released a dance version on their album Introspective which was the Christmas #1 in the UK and reached #4 in the US. Neil Tennant explained to 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh, "We were approached by Central TV to be on a program called Love Me Tender, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley, and for some reason, we agreed to do it. Rob Holden, who worked with our manager, Tony Watkins, got us a load of Elvis cassettes and the first track on the first one Chris picked up, Magic Moments With Elvis, was 'Always On My Mind.' We were originally going to do a house version of 'Baby Let's Play House' but there wasn't time. We wouldn't have done 'Always On My Mind' unless it was very different from the original, so we added an extra chord to it. There's a B flat at the end of each chorus that wasn't in the original. It makes it far more like a pop song."
  • As part of a series of re-releases of Elvis songs in the UK in 2007 his version re-entered the UK chart at #17.
  • The Pet Shop Boys rendition of this song was voted the top cover version of all time in a 2014 BBC Music vote. Johnny Cash's interpretation of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt" came in second place, followed by The Stranglers' cover of Dionne Warwick's "Walk On By."
  • Wayne Carson wrote this song in ten minutes at his kitchen table in Missouri. He competed it in the studio with the help of Johnny Christopher and Mark James.
