Bastards of Young

Fitting with the rebellious nature of The Replacements, this song is about a lost generation. The references to "Elvis" and the "Baby Boom" imply their parents, who see them as nothing more than tax deductions. "Bastard" is a derogatory term for a child born out of wedlock.

Some have speculated that the chorus is actually, "We are the sons of Norway" (somewhat fitting, given the Minnesota birthplace of all members) but, (famously) as no lyric sheet was ever provided by the band, it remains speculation.

The video is a black-and-white, single shot of a stereo system playing the song. He see a guy enter the frame, lie on the couch and smoke a cigarette, but we never see his face. At the end of the clip, he kicks over a speaker and leaves.

The original, found on the Tim demo sessions, has the guitar starting the song and is about committing suicide. This song was co-written by and features Luke Bryan. FGL's Brian Kelley told Billboard magazine: "He just brings so much energy and personality to the song. We couldn't be more proud of how it turned out, especially with his vocal on it. There's so much life on it."

The FGL duo had worked with Bryan closely in the months before they recorded this song. "Being able to tour with Luke and build a relationship with him all year and have him on the release is really exciting," Kelley told Billboard. "It shows how the country music community works. You go out there and work with somebody that they want to support you and you want to support them. It's cool to see it come full circle."

"Chillin' It" hitmaker Cole Swindell helped the FGL duo and Luke Bryan write the song. The Georgia-raised singer-songwriter kickstarted his own solo career when he appeared on select dates on Bryan's Dirt Road Diaries tour.

Swindell told Radio.com how the song came together. "It's such a crazy story," he said. "Me and Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line started writing it and he had said something. We were out on tour last year, FGL was out with Luke, and Luke had said something the night before about shooting bullets at the moon and Brian Kelley was like, 'Man, I want to write something like that. That's such a cool thought about being out somewhere and being able to do whatever you want.'"

So, the guys got together and came up with "This Is How We Roll."

The music video was directed by Marc Klasfeld, who has also worked with Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Filmed outside of Los Angeles in the desert, it features FGL and Luke Bryan performing the song in a tractor-trailer as X Games champion Travis Pastrana and his Nitro Circus crew showcase some impressive tricks on their dirt bikes.

This was Florida Georgia Line's third Country chart-topper, following "Cruise" and "Stay." In doing so, they became the first duo to notch at least a trio of Hot Country Songs chart-toppers from a debut full-length album since Brooks & Dunn arrived with four from their debut LP, Brand New Man, in 1991.

Candy Girl

Producer Maurice Starr wrote this shortly after seeing the band perform at a talent show. He signed them and had them record this in a small studio in Roxbury, Massachusetts.

Starr wrote the song in the style of "ABC" by The Jackson 5. He wanted New Edition to emulate The Jackson 5, and had them perform similar dance moves and vocal harmonies.

Ralph Tresvant sang lead. His voice sounded a lot like a young Michael Jackson, which is the sound they were going for. Tresvant was their lead singer in their early years.

This was New Edition's first hit, and it led to sudden fame and a long and turbulent journey for the band. The band members were between the ages of 13-15 when it was released.

This was the first UK chart topper to include rapping. This style of incorporating little raps in R&B/pop crossover songs caught on over the next several years as groups like TLC, Another Bad Creation and Bell Biv Devoe (a group comprised of former New Edition members) used the technique frequently, often with one member designated as the rapper.

The video for this song was the first that New Edition made. They didn't have a wardrobe budget, so the band is wearing their school clothes in the clip. MTV wasn't playing videos by black artists at the time (for more on this, see "Billie Jean"), but the American network Black Entertainment Television (BET) gave it plenty of airtime, giving New Edition a big boost in the black community.

With Tresvant's sweet lead vocals and the song's candy-coated lyrics, the group was labeled a bubblegum act. "Bubblegum? Yeah, it was in a way," Bobby Brown told Musician. "But I don't think that's a negative term necessarily. The Jacksons were deemed the same thing; the press just gave it to us. We were just being what we were: kids. We might've grown up in a bad neighborhood, but there was still some sweetness there."

Aiko told Radio.com that after hearing Lamar spitting about monogamy on his verse, she decided to change her own lyrics up a bit. "When I recorded the song, I wanted to keep it simple and sexy," Aiko explained. "But when he sent me back his verse, I realized the song could be more than that, so I decided to elaborate on my original verse and stop being lazy."

Aiko also released an alternate version in which her alter ego J Henny replaced Kendrick Lamar's verse. She told Rap-Up.com that J Henny had a bit of fire in her. "She still sings, but she's more aggressive," Aiko explained. "She likes to really talk a lot of s--t and talk about things that a lot of R&B singers don’t talk about."
