My Hitta Lyrics

I said that I'mma ride for my motherfuckin' hitta
Most likely I'mma die with my finger on the trigger
I've been grindin outside all day with My Hittas
And I ain't goin' in unless I'm with my hittas

My hitta, my hitta (My hitta, my hitta)
My hitta, my hitta (My motherfuckin' hittas)
My hitta, my hitta (My hitta, my hitta)
My hitta, my hitta
Duh

First thing's first I love all my hittas
This rap shit cracked and I involve my hittas
You lookin' for some lean, lemme call my hitta
He sell it for the high, I need all mines hitta
Some hittas smoke smoke, some hittas drink drank
Got hittas on the block with the glock that don't think
That's a hitta back up, they in a bucket lapped up
I got to act right if you hittas wanna act up
He talkin' like a snitch no, that ain't my hitta
He trippin' off a bitch no, that ain't my hitta
Take a hitta case, yeah that's my hitta
Know him since I was eight, yeah that's my hitta
Fucked my first bitch, passed her to my hitta
Hit my first lick, passed with my hitta
Fuck them other hittas 'cause I'm down for my hittas
I ride for my hittas, fuck them other hittas (snitch)

I said that I'mma ride for my motherfuckin' hitta
Most likely I'mma die with my finger on the trigger
I've been grindin' outside all day with my hittas
And I ain't goin' in unless I'm with my hittas

My hitta, my hitta (Dope boys my hittas)
My hitta, my hitta (YG my hitta)
My hitta, my hitta (Rich Homie my hitta)
My hitta, my hitta (It's the motherfuckin' world)

Just know I'm down with the hittas down for me
I got 2 words for you, love and loyalty
It was me and my hitta, trippin' on a half a B
When we used to hit a mall and buy everything we see
Me and my down ass hitta gettin' twisted
Hitta get to trippin', knock the gravy out your biscuit
Just know I fucked with you the long way, my hitta
So when I see you out I'm like, "Hey, my hitta!"
Drink that act right by the case, my hittas
Drink that act right and get straight with my hittas
Me and my hitta ridin' dirty trynna chase them figures
Who got the yopper, who got the yola? Don't matter, go figure

I said that I'mma ride for my motherfuckin' hitta
Most likely I'mma die with my finger on the trigger
I've been grindin outside all day with my hittas
And I ain't goin' in unless I'm with my hittas

My hitta, my hitta (My motherfuckin' world)
My hitta, my hitta (YG my hitta)
My hitta, my hitta (Rich Homie my hitta)
My hitta, my hitta (My hitta, my)

My hitta's got K, money got weight
My hitta fronted me, he the reason I'm straight
My hitta got a house, my hitta got a lake
My hitta we eatin', my hitta get a plate
And we're still hittin' licks, my hitta, my hitta
Runnin' off a hitta shit, my hitta, my hitta
I fucked a hitta bitch with my hitta, my hitta
If a hitta talkin' shit then he ain't my hitta
My hitta, my hitta (My hitta, my hitta)
Yg my hitta and I ain't goin' in, ain't trynna leave my hittas
Shawty seein' me and want to leave with a hitta
But it wasn't enough room 'cause I came with my hittas

My hittas, my hittas
I need a set of wings 'cause I'm too fly, hitta
And I'm all about my business like a suit and tie hitta
I ride for my hittas (Believe that)

I said that I'mma ride for my motherfuckin' hitta
Most likely I'mma die with my finger on the trigger
I've been grindin outside all day with my hittas
And I ain't goin' in unless I'm with my hittas

My hitta, my hitta
My hitta, my hitta (My motherfuckin' hittas)
My hitta, my hitta (My hitta, my hitta)
My hitta, my hitta

My Hitta
  • After LA-based rapper YG announced that his debut album would be executive produced by Young Jeezy, the pair begun frequently collaborating. The fruits of their labors included this ode to love and loyalty, which was initially released as a track on a EP released by the Atlanta rapper's label, CTE World, #It'sThaWorld. The song was then included on the first official CTE World mixtape, Boss Yo Life Up Gang. Released as the record's lead single, it became YG's first Hot 100 Top 40 hit.
  • The song is actually titled "My Ni-ga," with the edited version being called "My Hitta."
  • This banger also features a verse by Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan, who also performs the hook. It was recorded around the time he was breaking with the street anthem "Type Of Way."
  • The beat was supplied by DJ Mustard. The Californian producer is YG's DJ, and his other credits include the hit singles Tyga's "Rack City" and 2 Chainz's "I'm Different."
  • DJ Mustard was born Dijon McFarlane. The producer admitted during an interview that he doesn't like the yellow condiment. "I don't even eat mustard," he said. "That s--t is nasty."
  • YG recruited an all-star cast on the song's remix, grabbing verses from Lil Wayne, Rich Homie Quan, Meek Mill, and Nicki Minaj.
  • The song was also included on YG's debut album, My Krazy Life. The record was originally titled I'm 4rm Bompton - the replacement of the "C" in Compton with a "B," is a common switch among Bloods gang members. YG changed the disc's name to My Krazy Life on the advice of Young Jeezy. "He said, 'If you come out with an album (called) 'I'm 4rm Bompton,' you'll only be (catering) to a certain crowd of people,'" the Compton rapper told USA Today.
  • YG did the song in one take at Quad Studios. He knew it was going to be a street anthem as soon as Rich Homie Quan got done with the hook. He told The Boombox : "We put it out and it started doing what we thought it was gonna do, but then the DJs started playing it on the radio and making their own clean versions and everybody was calling in like, 'Ay, this the s–t!' So we're like damn, how the f--k we gonna clean this song up?

"It took us like three weeks to figure out the clean. That was a little cold ass situation."

    Sugar We're Going Down Lyrics

    Sugar We're Going Down
  • This song has a hint of jealousy in it. The singer wants to be this girl's boyfriend, but he's not. "I'm just a notch in your bedpost but you're just a line in a song" indicates that he means nothing to her, and he's trying to make it seem like she means the same to him. But it's not working too well. The chorus is about their relationship failing miserably in "an earlier round" because they don't even have a relationship. "I'll be your number one with a bullet, a loaded God complex cock it and pull it" means that she might as well be killing him because he hurts so much.
  • The name of the album comes from a book about a bull that doesn't fight in the ring, but just sits under the cork tree and smells the sweet fragrance. This used to be a favorite story book of band member Andy Hurley. The title also provides a clever acronym: FUCT.
  • The lyrics, "I'll be your number one with a bullet" is a play on words. "With a bullet" is a term for when a song is climbing up the music charts at a rapid rate - the Billboard charts would put an image of a bullet next to the song to indicate this. But when you're "number one with a bullet," there is nowhere to go but down.
  • Fall Out Boy bass player Pete Wentz wrote the lyrics. In 2006, he told Rolling Stone magazine: "I wrote the lyrics in Chicago. I was with my dad, and we were listening to the old music where they'd always say 'sugar' and 'honey' - stuff like that. I was like, 'Why doesn't anyone do that anymore?' Be we really locked it down in California. It was the day before the new Taking Back Sunday record came out. I remember calling those guys to say congrats."
  • This was Fall Out Boy's breakthrough single, however in a 2009 interview, Wentz told Spin magazine that the record label doubted its potential. He recalled: "That chorus was a throw away. Our label told us the chorus was too wordy and the guitars were too heavy and that the radio wasn't going to play it. I felt so good when that song broke."

    Mama Never Told Me Lyrics

    Mama Never Told Me
  • The third single from Sister Sledge, this funky little number is a delicious piece of Philadelphia Soul written and produced by Phil Hurtt ("I'll Be Around
") and Tony Bell ("I'm Stone In Love With You"). Hurtt and Bell got the group a deal with Atlantic Records after they signed to the label's publishing division in the early '70s. In our interview with Phil Hurtt , he told us how this song came together:

"Thommy Bell had a hit on the Spinners called 'One of a Kind.' Tony [Thommy's brother] was playing guitar. He started playing the riff that reminded me of that: 'One of a kind...' I started humming the melody to it, and I started thinking about a story. The mom is Flo with these five daughters [one daughter did not perform with the group]. And there had to be some instruction to her daughters, had to be some communication about life. I started thinking about that, and 'Mama Never Told Me' popped off. So basically it was just imagining a mother's conversation to her daughter, then I had to flip the script, because her mama couldn't tell her too much, because she fell for the same thing: a quiet man."
  • This was recorded at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia, with members of the studio house band (known as MFSB) providing the instrumentation.
  • The "Shooby dooby dooby doo bop bop" vocal was a playful touch that songwriter Phil Hurtt worked into the song, as he thought it would get people singing along to the song. It was also a cute and appropriate bit for Kathy Sledge to sing, as she was just 14 years old at the time.

Hold On (Just A Little Bit Longer) Lyrics

Hold On (Just A Little Bit Longer)
  • Five songwriters are credited on this track, which was a minor near the end of Little Anthony & the Imperials career - they were officially known as Anthony & the Imperials by this time. Those writers are Tony Bell, William Berry, Rufus Brown, James Hill and Phil Hurtt. Bell and Hurtt were frequent collaborators, teaming up at Philadelphia International Records and at Atlantic Records as songwriter/producers. Hurtt told us about writing the lyrics:

"'Hold on just a little bit longer,' it's just one of those ideas. It's a thing that pops into your head. What are you holding onto? Hold on a little bit longer. And then the story popped into my head. I'm going to leave my girl here at home, and I trust her, but I don't trust people around her. So I don't mind you going out, but you have limits. Know when to say no, know when to come back, and hold on just a little bit longer. Be strong. Ideas like that just pop up. I can't put a finger on it, but it pops into your head. And once you get a title, then you get the first line, and then you get a story. You have two or three different ways you can go with the story, and then decide on which way to go. Sometimes it just takes you there."

Got no time for foolin' with you baby
Your stupid game is about to end.
    You played it out.
    Thought you had it made.
And it looks like someone passed you by again.

I left her standin' in her corner
She told me she was tryin' to find her way.
I've got to leave before I get much older
Cause she ain't moved in nearly forty days.

I've got a woman that's treatin' me better.

    Mother's Daughter
  • Told from the first-person point of view, this is about a man who is tired of being mistreated by his girlfriend. At the end there's a twist... the man apparently had an affair with the girl's mother.
  • Gregg Rolie got sole credit for writing this song. From 1966 to 1972, almost all of his contributions to the band dealt with heartbreak and loneliness ("You Just Don't Care," "Hope You're Feeling Better").

He explained: "I'm sure like lyrically and the tone of the lyrics fit but musically it's something we never really done before. It's another one of those songs that we wrote off the cuff. Just one part to the next so it's very natural, I think people are going to… I think it's going to be a polarizing kind of song. Here Comes the Night Time
  • This sonically schizophrenic song features propulsive percussion and festive horns gleaned from Haiti. Arcade Fire multi instrumentalist and co-vocalist Régine Chassagne has roots in the Caribbean country as her Haitian parents emigrated to Canada during the tyrannical dictatorship of Papa Doc. The band has traveled there on several occasions in recent years, including a trip to Haiti's Carnival in Jacmel.
  • Three percussionists from the Haitian band RAM lent a hand to this floor-filler. Chassagne, and Will and Win Butler spent two weeks in New Orleans with the drummers working specifically on rhythm. "We just recorded beats," Chassagne told The Guardian. "We were interested in doing hybrid beats that could translate stuff that I know from my family background in Haiti. I was always interested to try to find rhythms that mean something, to communicate emotion through rhythm and music. Because rhythm is almost like a vocabulary."
  • The song is reprised at the beginning of the record's Side B with an alternative version titled "Here Comes the Night Time II."
  • This is one of several songs on Reflektor inspired by the band's time spent in Haiti. Frontman Win Butler told The Sun: "We spent a lot of time in Haiti, an island a lot of people don't get to see. So we wanted to bring Haiti to the people. And the Haitians know how to party. We have a lot to learn, that's for sure."
  • The song starts with Butler singing:

    "When the sun goes down
When the sun goes down, you head inside
    Cause the lights don't work."

He explained in an interview with Macleans magazine: "There's a crazy energy in Port-au-Prince when the sun goes down, because there is no electricity in a lot of the city. A lot of parts of the city are pretty dangerous, and people are rushing around trying to get home."
  • The song finds Win Butler criticizing Christian missionaries, whom he believes shouldn't be attempting to convert Haitians from their own beliefs. The Arcade Fire frontman explained to Rolling Stone that he was thinking about, "Just the absurdity that you can go to a place like Haiti and teach people something about God. Like, the opposite really seems to be true, in my experience. I've never been to a place with more belief and more knowledge of God."
  • Win Butler described the song to Rolling Stone as "kind of a hybrid of Haitian Rara and Jamaican influence." He added: "We spent some time in Jamaica, but it sounds like a Cure song at the end of the day, kind of a mashup. I mean, it's not like our band trying to play Haitian music. I just felt like we were opened up to a new influence. Bob Marley probably felt the same way the first time he heard Curtis Mayfield."

High up on you, you display good traits though few.
We've found time alone will tell.
This disease keeps holding me down.
Try to run when bear sleep.
    To imagine us away.
He said come, fly around my he'll.
And know this, you seem to be
    Too scared to run.
    Wish I had your faults
    Nothing seems to phase you
Lies, you're much more than just human.
I was high up on you til the shadows began to crawl.
Some say we can never know from just how far down this beast has come.
    Too scared to run

    An Evening With El Diablo
  • Drummer Sam Loeffler: "That's a little bit of a joke. It's about meeting a person that you sort of randomly meet. I think it's about a specific time when Pete met somebody and thought, 'Wow, this person's really cool,' and then finds out later on that they're exactly the opposite of everything good. Essentially, that they're the devil. Not literally the devil, but everything that you would say that is bad in this world that person is about that. The devil's pawn. But your first impression is that this person's really cool, I want to hang out with them and do this and that, and then you go out with them and find out that they're snorting everything they can get and that they're bagging every girl they come across, all this stuff. It was about a time you met somebody like that and it's funny how people can cover up the real things that they're about, so that they can get to a certain point and then they unload on you. So, it's about finding out later 'Wow, I just spent an evening with the devil.' It started out cool and in the end I realized that this guy was crazy.

    Awful Sound (Oh Eurydice) Lyrics

    You and I were born
    In a little town
    Before the awful sound
    Started coming down

    Oh no oh

    You came home from school
    Knew you had to run
    Please stop running now
Just let me be the one

    For you

But I know you can see
    Things that we can't see
But when I say I love you
    Your silence covers me
Oh, Eurydice, it's an awful sound

    I was so disappointed
    You didn't want me
Oh, how could it be, Eurydice
    I was standing beside you
    By a frozen sea
    Will you ever get free?
    Just take all your pain
    Just put it on me
    So that you can breathe
    When you fly away
    Will you hit the ground?
    It's an awful sound

    I know there's a way
    We can make 'em pay
Think it over and say (I'm never going back again)
    I know there's a way
    We can leave today
Think it over and say (I'm never going back again)

When you were born in the little town
    Before the awful sound
    Started coming down
    There's so much inside you
That you won't let me see
    You fly away from me
    But it's an awful sound
    When you hit the ground
    It's an awful sound
    When you hit the ground

    I know there's a way
    We can make 'em pay
    Think it over and say
    (I'm never going back again)
    But I know there's a way
    We can leave today
    Think it over

We know there's a price to pay
For love in the reflective age
I met you up upon a stage
Our love in a reflective age

Oh no, now you're gone (No)

    Awful Sound (Oh Eurydice)
  • This song references Eurydice, who in Ancient Greek legend was the wife of the gifted musician Orpheus. The lyrics about despair, isolation and death were inspired by the story of the mythological lover's attempt to retrieve Eurydice from the underworld after she died.
  • Frontman Win Butler told The Sun that a particular inspiration was Marcel Camus' 1959 Brazilian movie about the star crossed lovers, Black Orpheus. "Regine (Chassagne, wife and bandmate) and I watched the film Black Orpheus, which is super relevant because it's based in Brazil during carnival and is the oldest pre Romeo and Juliet love story there is."

"So it got to me," he added. "I obsess about ideas. I don't know any other way to write. I try to find five different ways to look at an idea."
  • Reflektor's cover art is an image of Auguste Rodin's sculpture of Orpheus and Eurydice. This is one of several songs on the album that were inspired by Greek mythology and the structure of tragedy.

    Send The Pain Below Lyrics

    I liked,
    Having hurt,
    So Send The Pain Below,
    Where I need it.

    You used to beg me,
    To take,
    Care of things,
    And smile at the thoughts,
    Of me failing.

    But long before,
    Having hurt,
    I'll send the pain below,
    I'll send the pain below.

    Much like suffocating,
    Much like suffocating,
Much like suffocating (I'll send the pain below)
Much like suffocating (I'll send the pain below).

    You used run me away,
    All while laughing,
    Then cry about that fact,
    Til my returns.

    But long before,
    Having hurt,
    I'll send the pain below,
    I'll send the pain below.

    Much like suffocating,

I can't feel my chest (chest, chest),
    Anymore,
    Drop down,
    'Cause I'm in
I can't feel my chest (chest, chest)
    Drop down!

    I liked,
    Having hurt,
    So send the pain below,
So send the pain below (Much like suffocating) (I liked),
So send the pain below (Much like suffocating) (Having hurt)
So send the pain below (Much like suffocating)
So send the pain below (Much like suffocating)
    So send the pain below
