Helmet In The Bush Lyrics

I keep asking
What's your lie?
It is disturbing
This isn't mine
Days keep passing
One notch at a time
I don't feel right
Please God let me sleep tonight

Everyday confronted
Fuck off, it's giving in
I just want to know why!
Want to give it up but I can't escape

I keep asking
Again please try
It is haunting
This takes my mind
Days keep passing
Line after line
I don't feel right

Please God don't let me die tonight
Everyday confronted
Fuck off, it's giving in
I just want to know why!
Want to give it up but I can't escape

Please God
Please God help me
Please God free me
Please God save me from my painful situation

Helmet In The Bush
  • A track from the Nu Metal band Korn's first album, lead singer Jon Davis explained: "It's about a speed problem that I had. You know, you do a lot of speed and - if you're a male - your penis retracts severely."
  • The voice at the beginning of the song is a friend of the band known as "La Caco." Jonathan Davis explained: "His real name is Michael and likes taco bell. He's a really Nice Guy and he has been friends with the band for years."

    Don't Stop (Wiggle Wiggle) Lyrics

    Don't Stop (Wiggle Wiggle)
  • First released in 1994 as a single in Europe, this song imported the American Miami Bass sound that was popularized by groups like 2 Live Crew and Quad City DJs. And like the oeuvre of the 2 Live Crew, the song was shockingly explicit and caused a similar outrage that of course made it wildly popular far beyond its artistic merits.

This original version ran 4:45, but was cut down to 3:19 for radio play once the controversy started. With the explicit lyrics removed, the song was reduced to its groove and chorus, but fueled by media coverage, this was enough to send it to #1 on the UK charts in March 1995.

The subject of this song's profane content was actually raised in Parliament, when on June 15, 1995, the MP for Worcester Peter Luff asked:

Will my right hon. Friend find time for an early debate on the availability of pornographic material to children? I hope that he has had the opportunity to study the correspondence that I delivered to his office yesterday. It is correspondence that I have had with my constituent, Mr. Wilde, about the purchase by his 11-year-old daughter of a grossly obscene record which rejoices in the innocent name "(Don't Stop) Wiggle Wiggle" by the Outhere Brothers. Such filth suggests that the record industry is not policing its output effectively, and that there could be a need for further action by the Government.

Tony Newton MP replied for the Government: "I have indeed read the correspondence that my hon. Friend kindly gave me, and I fully understand his concern. He has written to my right hon. and noble Friend the Minister of State, Home Office, and I am sure that she will reply to him."

The press also reported that this song - and several others by the band - had come under fire from another MP, and that the Crown Prosecution Service was considering a prosecution under the Obscene Publications Act. (thanks, Alexander Baron - London, England)
  • The Outhere Brothers were fronted by two Chicago musicians: the rapper Keith Mayberry (also known as "Malik" or "Silk E") and producer Lamar "Hula" Mahone. The pair got some help from an Italian production team known as Aladino, and also from Craig Simpkins, an American producer who goes by "Azza K. Fingers." They collectively shared songwriter credits on this and other Outhere Brothers tracks, but Mayberry and Mahone were the only members who appeared in publicity materials and videos.
  • Just as there were dirty and clean releases of this song, there were different official videos made as well. The first video (the dirty one) showed the groups frontmen cavorting with various vixens in boot camp and wrestling scenarios. The second (clean) video was made up of old footage of dancers and cartoons.

  • This is about the anxiety Jon Davis developed while touring. He became agoraphobic and had trouble even stepping off the tour bus.
  • This track is kind of strange. It's a short interlude with Jon singing. On one side it has the track playing normally and on the other side is the same track playing backwards at the same time. If you listen closely you can hear it. (thanks, Nick - Paramus, NJ, for above 2)

    Weight of Love Lyrics

    Weight of Love
  • This bluesy workout opens Black Keys' eighth album, Turn Blue. The duo recorded 30 songs for the record before narrowing it down to 11. Speaking with XFM, drummer Patrick Carney revealed that the recording of this song determined the structure of the album. "We didn't have a plan, we just kind of went in and recorded stuff and came up with the record," he explained. "It wasn't until we recorded the song 'Weight of Love' that we figured out how we wanted to start the record. Once we finished that we knew that was the beginning of the record."
  • The Black Keys' longest song to date, this clocks in at just under seven minutes. The band previously hit nearly six minutes on "Goodbye Babylon" from 2006's Magic Potion, plus six minutes, 45 seconds on "My Mind is Ramblin'" from their 2006 cover EP Chulahoma: The Songs of Junior Kimbrough.
  • Vocalist Dan Auerbach told the BBC that as soon as The Black Keys had finished laying down this breakup epic they knew it should be the first track on the record. "We liked the journey it took you on, we like how it started so hush," he said. "It demands your attention in a different way to any of our other records opening tracks."
  • The song features backing vocals by Regina, Ann, and Alfreda McCrary who are three-quarters of the McCrary Sisters gospel quartet. Regina also toured for six years as Bob Dylan's harmony singer, and she's on all three albums from his gospel period: Slow Train Coming, Saved and Shot of Love.
  • The NSFW music video was directed by photographer Theo Wenner, who is the son of Rolling Stone co-founder Jann Wenner. He was also the man behind the lens for The Black Keys' "Fever" clip.

The video stars Lara Stone as the leader of a cult of women who live near an old, dilapidated lighthouse on the seashore. The Australian supermodel previously featured in the visual for Hot Chip's 2012 single "Night and Day."

    Beg For Me Lyrics

    Everyone is looking at me.
I can't get out of bed.
There is evil in my head.
    Just let me be.
Because when I hit the stage.
It is gone and I am free.
Goddamn you say you'll get up for me.

You're the crowd come on give it back to me.
You won't Beg For Me beg for me beg for me.

Goddamn you say you'll get up with me.
You're the crowd come on give it back to me.
You won't beg for me be there for me beg for me.

Tell me, how could this fade?
    I am going in shame.
And I could not have my pain.
    Everyone please let me be.
    'Cause we're on stage.
And it's gone and I am free.

Goddamn you say you'll get up with me.
You're the crowd, come on give it back to me.
You won't beg for me, beg for me, beg for me.

Goddamn you say you'll get up with me.
You're the crowd, come on give it back to me.
You won't beg for me, be there for me, beg for me.

    I feel the shame.
    I'm not insane.
    The things I feel now.
    Aren't the same.
    Who gives a fuck.

    If my life sucks?
    I just know one day.
    I won't give up.

    Everyone just let me be.

Goddamn you say you'll get up with me.
You're the crowd, come on give it back to me.
You won't beg for me, beg for me, beg for me.

Goddamn you say you'll get up with me.
You're the crowd, come on give it back to me.

    Beg For Me
  • This is about how lead singer Jonathan Davis feels when he's on stage performing. He says that he's happy because playing music for his fans is what helps him feel better for the hour and a half that he performs. After that he goes back to being miserable again but it just feels so good to have his pain go away for that short time. (thanks, Nick - Paramus, NJ)
  • Davis elaborates on the meaning: "'Beg For Me' is more of an angry thing because the whole thing for 'Beg For Me' is the crowd. The only time I was good on tour was when I walked up onstage and that's what the song is about. Feeling wanted is something one thing I've always needed. I was shuffled around so much when I was a kid...being up onstage was the only point was the only time when my anxiety would go away for an hour." (thanks, Cody - Chicopee, MA)

    Turn Blue Lyrics

    Turn Blue
  • It was reported in February 2013 that Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach and his wife Stephanie Gonis were in the midst of divorce proceedings. Many of the lyrics on the Turn Blue address the breakdown of his marriage and the moody title track finds the vocalist battling depression as he struggles to "stay on track just like Pops told me to."
  • The arrival of Turn Blue on May 13, 2014 was announced using Mike Tyson's Twitter. The idea to have the boxer unveil the album originated after he called the band to thank them for licensing a song for use in a documentary he was making and he offered to do them a favor in return.
  • The title is based on a catch phrase used by Ghoulardi, a Cleveland TV host of a late night horror movie presentation between 1963-66. The Black Keys were asked by the BBC what made this appropriate as the title track? Auerbach replied: "We just liked the phrase, first off. We liked the association with Ghoulardi, this kind of weird freak from Ohio from the early 60s - that was phrase he used to use. And then so much of the album was lyrically melancholy and introspective and personal, so it was very blue. I guess it just made sense."

He added: "We also liked how we could translate Turn Blue into artwork for the cover."

    Blue And Yellow
  • "It's a song about me and [frontman] Bert McCracken's friendship," guitarist Quinn Allman explained. "When the band started to really pick up and people started to really get interested, we were almost not being friends anymore because we were focusing so much time on the band and not on each other." (thanks, Sarah Haley - Toronto, Canada)
  • The colors in the title could have some meaning. The color blue belongs to the Planet Venus, the giver of Love, devotion and harmony. The musical note of blue is G, a favorite key for the composer of romantic music. The color yellow belongs to the planet Mercury, and is said to stimulate the nerves of the brain and body. Mercury instills a quick intellect by stimulating the nervous system, so nothing can remain stagnant under the influence of this planet. (thanks, Ryan - Howell, MI)
  • The colors could be interpreted as either 2 people attracting each other or the 2 colors being mixed to create green - the color of jealousy: "It's all in how you mix the two." (thanks, October - london, Canada)

    Rise Like a Phoenix Lyrics

    Waking in the rubble
    Walking over glass
    Neighbors say we're trouble
    Well that time has passed

    Peering from the mirror
    No, that isn't me
    Stranger getting nearer
    Who can this person be

You wouldn't know me at all today From the fading light I fly

    Rise Like a Phoenix
    Out of the ashes
    Seeking rather than vengeance
    Retribution
    You were warned
    Once I'm transformed
    Once I'm reborn
You know I will rise like a phoenix
    But you're my flame

    Go about your business
    Act as if you're free
    No one could have witnessed
    What you did to me

Cause you wouldn't know me today
And you have got to see
    To believe
From the fading light I fly

    Rise like a phoenix
    Out of the ashes
    Seeking rather than vengeance
    Retribution
    You were warned
    Once I'm transformed
    Once I'm reborn

I rise up to the sky
    You threw me down but
    I'm gonna fly

    And rise like a phoenix
    Out of the ashes
    Seeking rather than vengeance
    Retribution
    You were warned
    Once I'm transformed
    Once I'm reborn
You know I will rise like a phoenix

    Rise Like a Phoenix
  • Thomas "Tom" Neuwirth is an Austrian singer who first came to public attention in 2007 after finishing as runner-up in the 2007 casting show Starmania. Four years later he returned to television in drag as the character "Conchita Wurst" on the Austrian talent show Die große Chance. After being selected to represent Austria in the 2014 Eurovision Contest, as Conchita Wurst, she won the competition with 290 points.
  • Wurst's win wasn't the first by a contestant pushing the boundaries of gender identity. Back in 1998 Israel's Dana International, who'd undergone sex reassignment surgery five years previously, won with the song "Diva."
  • Speaking backstage after her victory, Wurst commented that she felt Europe had taken a stand by voting her the winner. "I dream of a world where we don't have to talk about unnecessary things like sexuality, who you love," she said. "I felt like tonight Europe showed that we are a community of respect and tolerance."
  • The lyric, "I will rise like a phoenix," is a reference to the mythical bird of ancient legend that burned itself to death on a pyre every several hundred years before rising from the ashes to start a new life. The phoenix was subsequently adopted as a symbol of resurrection in early Christianity. Other songs that namecheck the legendary bird include:

    "Phoenix" by A$AP Rocky
"The Phoenix" by Fall Out Boy
    "Phoenix" by Wishbone Ash.

    It's Probably Me
  • Though the Ten Summoner's Tales version does not include it, the Sting music video collection does: Eric Clapton performing the song. He's actually a co-writer of the song, along with Sting and Michael Kamen. David Sanborn plays on the track as well. (thanks, Jeff - Kendall Park, NJ)
  • Sting and Frank Zappa got along quite well. Not only did they share a drummer (Vinnie Colaiuta, who came to Sting from Zappa's pack), but Sting made a guest appearance at one of Zappa's live shows. This is immortalized on Zappa's Broadway The Hard Way album, where Sting performs his hit "Murder By Numbers" in protest of the religious right's controversy around the song at the time.
Speaking of Sting drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, you'll never guess where he got his break - his first tour was with Al Kooper during Kooper's 1976 tour to kick off his solo album Act Like Nothing's Wrong - the title of which, by the way, he got from the T-shirts worn by Stevie Wonder's road crew.
  • This song was written for the action flick Lethal Weapon 3, starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Michael Kamen and Eric Clapton had already written the instrumental but needed lyrics. Although not a fan of the genre, Sting said in Lyrics By Sting, "I was intrigued by the 'brief' that the producers wanted a 'buddy' song, and nothing too sappy."

He continued: "I came up with the phrase 'It's probably me' and began to work backward from the title to create a song where two men can express their love for each other while retaining their macho credentials through the veiled reticence of the title phrase. We men are strangely contradictory creatures: 'Too proud to beg, too dumb to steal.'"

    You are the avalanche
    One world away
    My make believing
    While I'm wide awake

    Just a trick of light
To bring me back around again
    Those wild eyes
    A psychedelic silhouette

I never meant to fall for you but I
    Was buried underneath and
All that I could see was white
    My Salvation
    My, my
    My salvation
    My, my

    Oh

    You are the snowstorm
    I'm purified
    The darkest fairytale
    In the dead of night

    Let the band play out
As I'm making my way home again
    Glorious we transcend
    Into a psychedelic silhouette

I never meant to fall for you but I

  • Gabrielle Aplin came up with this song on the piano. She recalled to Artist Direct : "The lyrics didn't come up until the end of the session. I was reading, and I had the idea. I wrote it really quickly. After struggling for about six hours, I got it in about half-an-hour. It's a random song to write, really."
  • Aplin explained the song's meaning: "It's about having something you go to that's consistently there," she said. "You have some sort of salvation - whatever it may be. It could be God. It could be a friend. It could be a girlfriend or a boyfriend. It could be anything."
  • Asked by Coup De Main magazine if she has a favorite song to play live, Aplin replied: "With my band, I love playing 'Home' live. When it's me on my own, I love to play my song 'Salvation.'"

I put the good in front of bye, y'all
Put a hole in the drywall
Put the pedal to the firewall and I was gone
Met the boys at the starlight
Tried to drink a hundred Bud Lights
    Lost count around midnight
But you got what you wanted baby
    Yeah, you

Wanted me, wanted me, wanted me, wanted me, Wanted Me Gone
    So I'm moving, I'm moving, I'm moving, I'm moving, I'm moving on
Yeah and now you cry and you cry and you cry cause you're all alone
But you wanted me, wanted me, wanted me, wanted me, wanted me gone

When you threw me out the backdoor
    Screamin' like an Evinrude outboard
I guess I took a detour when you told me to go to hell
'Cause I'm in heaven every weekend
The water's nice off the deep end
I bet that you were thinkin'
    I'd be all by myself
    Oh well, you

Wanted me, wanted me, wanted me, wanted me, wanted me gone
    So I'm moving, I'm moving, I'm moving, I'm moving, I'm moving on
Yeah and now you cry and you cry and you cry cause you're all alone
But you wanted me, wanted me, wanted me, wanted me, wanted me gone

Yeah, I hear you want me back
But I just can't do that

You wanted me, wanted me, wanted me, wanted me, wanted me gone
    So I'm moving, I'm moving, I'm moving, I'm moving, I'm moving on
Well now you cry and you cry and you cry cause you're all alone

Writer/s: THOMPSON, JOSH / WARREN, BRAD / WARREN, BRETT
    Publisher: Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC
Lyrics licensed and provided by LyricFind

    Wanted Me Gone
  • This Southern rocker was penned by Josh Thompson with Brett and Brad Warren. The Warren brothers' other credits include Dierks Bentley's "Feel That Fire," Tim McGraw's "Felt Good On My Lips," Toby Keith's "Red Solo Cup" and Keith Urban's "Little Bit Of Everything."
  • The song tells the story of a man who decides to move on from the relationship he originally didn't want to leave only for his old flame to decide she wants to get back together.
  • The music video was directed by Nashville videographer/video editor and audio engineer Tom Dyer and shot at Thompson's house. No props had to be purchased for the video – all the items featured were Thompson's, including the wall-mounted fish that he'd caught during a trip to Lake Okeechobee. "I definitely had the most fun I've ever had shooting this video," Thompson told Country Music Is Love . "It tells the story of the song perfectly, and you can't go wrong with spending the day sitting in a lawn chair with a beer."
  • Thompson told Roughstock the story of the song: "I had the first three lines of the song written already, before we got together to write," he revealed. "I woke up on my couch, and there was an outdoor channel on … something about Dale Earnhardt. It was like 3:30AM. I heard some guy use the term he put the pedal to to the firewall. So I wrote that down. My eyes rolled to the back of my head, and I went back to bed."

"I got up the next morning and wrote those lines, 'I put the good in front of bye, y'all. I put a hole through the dry wall. Pedal to the firewall,'" Thompson continued. "I had those lines for two or three weeks, maybe. I sang them when I sat down to write with the Warren Brothers. They loved it, of course. It kind of went from there. The whole wanted me, wanted me, wanted me, wanted me thing just kind of fell out. That was it. From there, I was hooked. We were all in because we thought it was catchy and hooky, and it was just kind of fun, too."
  • For the second verse, Thompson ad-libbed a line about a boat engine - "screaming like an Evinrude outboard" - that he thought would be a placeholder. However the lyric made the trio laugh, so they decided to keep it. "We were wondering if everyone would know what an Evinrude outboard is," Brad Warren noted to Billboard magazine. "And I said, 'If you don't know what an Evinrude outboard is, you shouldn't be listening to country music.' The writing session was finished in a scant two hours."
  • Co-Producer Cliff Audretch III organised some background singers for the "wanted me gone" chorus but there were a number of no-shows and only the Warrens and Audretch made it in. The trio sang the chorus several times in a studio kitchen and stacked the performances so they sounded like gang vocals. "The song has a bit of a party vibe," observed Audretch to Billboard magazine. "For that to be the way the gang vocals went down, it was appropriately less than perfect - pretty lo-fi, really."
