Trouble

This is about a guy who realizes too late that he has gotten himself into something really bad and can't get himself out. He figures out that he got there by hurting another person badly and is trying to apologize to that person.

Two music videos were made. The original UK version, directed by Sophie Muller (No Doubt, Garbage), finds the band in the Wild West, where frontman Chris Martin is held captive in a warehouse and tied to a chair. It was shot at a ranch in Newhall, California.

The US version, directed by Tim Hope, features the band members as two-dimensional figures who get caught up in a tornado and land in suburbia. The clip won for Best Art Direction at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards.

Song for My Father

Many of the tracks on Shine On were inspired by the death of Sarah McLachlan's adoptive dad, Jack, who succumbed to cancer in December of 2010. The singer also had to deal with the divorce from her husband Ashwin Sood, after 11 years of marriage and the upheaval of switching labels (McLachan released Shine On on Verve after decades at Arista). The resulting songs are personal and contemplative, as she moves into the second half of her life battered and bruised but with hope. She told Jam! Music : "You don't get to this age unscathed. We've all been through a whole lot at this point in our lives and it's a bit of a turning point where you get to look at the rest of your life and see how it will play out. What have I done up until now? How am I going to make the rest of my life look? It's a real pivotal time, and it certainly has been with mine these last five years."

"I wanted to try to emulate that in the music," McLachlan added. "My dad's death had a profound impact in my life. It took a couple of years to find out what that meant to me, and what he meant to me."

My Blue Heaven

This was written in 1927. Walter Donaldson supplied the music and George Whiting wrote the lyrics.

This didn't become popular until about two years after it was written, when Eddie Cantor featured it in his successful stage musical Ziegfeld Follies of 1927. Afterwards, it became very popular for vaudeville productions.

During the first season of the TV show M*A*S*H, this was used frequently on the show. Examples: A Korean version on the PA system, Hawkeye and Trapper singing it before going to R&R in Tokyo (Bananas, Crackers, and Nuts) and Hot Lips singing it at a "no-talent show" (Dear, Dad Again).

This has been covered by the Smashing Pumpkins (who added extra lyrics), Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller, Al Jolson (who appeared in The Jazz Singer, the first "talkie"), and Dolly Parton.

There are 2 different movies called My Blue Heaven, and both used this song. The first was a 1950 musical where it was performed by the stars, Betty Grable and Dan Dailey. The second was a 1990 comedy starring Steve Martin and Rick Moranis. Fats Domino's version was the theme song in that one.

Besides the films in which it was used as the title song, this appeared in the movies Never a Dull Moment in 1943 (sung by Frances Langford), Moon over Las Vegas in 1944 (performed by Gene Austin, who recorded it for the album Victor, which sold over five million copies and held a record until Bing Crosby's "White Christmas"), the 1955 biographical musical Love Me or Leave Me, and the 1959 film The Five Pennies (performed by Bob Crosby). This song is sung off-screen in Toy Story 2 by the character Jessie in a flashback sequence that explains her history. Sarah McLachlan performs the vocals of the ballad, while actress Joan Cusack does the speaking voice of Jessie.

The song was written by Randy Newman. McLachlan recalled during a Reddit AMA: "Funny story. When that song came through our office, my manager said 'you're probably not going to like this.' And so I listened to it, and I started crying right away, because Randy Newman singing that song reminded me of Kermit the Frog singing 'It's Not Easy Being Green.' So I instantly fell in love with it, and I got to tell Randy that story, and he loved it too."

This was nominated for the 2000 Oscar for Best Original Song, but the award went to Phil Collins for "You'll Be In My Heart."

Ain't That A Shame

This is a heartache song about a breakup that was the other partner's fault. Domino wrote it with Dave Bartholomew, who worked on most of Domino's hits.

This was the first song to crossover from the R&B charts to the mostly white pop charts of the day. Like several other songs previously heard exclusively in black bars or nightclubs, this was covered by the crooning Pat Boone. Concerned about how educated, upper-class whites would respond to the title, he originally wanted it changed to "Isn't That a Shame," but the producers realized the original title would sell better and kept it.

Boone's cover was a huge hit, going to #1 on the US Pop charts and reaching #7 in the UK. This gave Domino's original recording a boost, and helped it cross over.

This was Fats Domino's first hit song that was not recorded in New Orleans, where the singer lived. He recorded it on March 15, 1955 in a Hollywood studio when he was on tour in Los Angeles. Imperial Records had the engineers compress Fats' vocals and speed up the song a bit to make the song sound less bluesy and give it more mainstream appeal. This also made it more difficult for other artists to cover the song.

In 1960, Domino recorded a sequel called "Walking To New Orleans," where he leaves and goes back to his hometown.

This was used in the 1972 movie American Graffiti. It was also used in the movie October Sky. (thanks, duff - Paris'suburb, France)

Cheap Trick's 1978 cover went to #35 in the US and helped make their At Budokan album a huge hit. A portion of the first guitar solo in their version, played by Rick Nielsen, is lifted from the opening harmonica riff from the Beatles' "Please Please Me." That same riff is also used in the guitar outro to the track "The House is Rockin' (Domestic Problems)" from the band's 1980 album Dream Police.

Angel's Son

written by lead singer Lajon Witherspoon , this was originally recorded acoustically and written for and about James Lynn Strait of the band Snot. Strait died in a car wreck in December of 1998 along with his dog. Apparently, he lived a life battling an addiction as mentioned by Sevendust on their DVD Retrospect.

Tinashe Kachingwe is a Los Angeles-raised singer-songwriter, who started as an actress, making her acting debut in the 2000 television film Cora Unashamed. Tinashe has also voiced for the film The Polar Express and had a recurring role on CBS' Two and a Half Men. Her first foray into music was as a member of the five-piece girl band The Stunners. After they disbanded, Tinashe embarked as a solo act, signing with RCA and releasing two critically acclaimed mixtapes in 2012.

This was released as the first single from Tinashe's debut album, Aquarius. A DJ Mustard-produced cut for the club, it features a guest verse from Schoolboy Q. "I wanted '2 On' to be transitional, so people get used to the idea of, 'She can make songs that can play on the radio, and she can still make songs that I can vibe out to in my car,'" she told Billboard magazine.

"With this song, it's not such a struggle [for fans] to, like, clap or sing along," she added with a laugh. "They're already having fun and pumped up."

Tinashe first performed the song live at the 2014 SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.

Tinashe explained the song's meaning to The Idolator : "We are trying to kill 'turnt up,' 'turned up on life,' 'YOLO,' all that stuff," she said. "And we are trying to bring in '2 On.' So basically, it just means super hyped up, super extra out on whatever emotion that it is if you are super, super happy, then you are '2 On.' You got it?"

The song samples Sean Paul's 2005 hit single "We Be Burnin'" towards the end.

The song's official music video was helmed by Hannah Lux Davis, who is one of the most in-demand music video directors (she is responsible for clips by the likes of Lil Wayne, Jason DeRulo and Ciara). However Davis and Tinashe go back a long way – Davis directed for the singer's old group The Stunners.

Tinashe said to Billboard magazine of DJ Mustard's clap-heavy production: "'2 On' really caught people's attention initially because it was the first time that they'd heard a female singing on that type of beat. DJ Mustard didn't have any women on any of his music at the point when I wrote that song, and I thought that that would just be a fresh sound."

A track from the Nu Metal band Korn's first album, lead singer Jon Davis explained: "It's about a speed problem that I had. You know, you do a lot of speed and - if you're a male - your penis retracts severely."

The voice at the beginning of the song is a friend of the band known as "La Caco." Jonathan Davis explained: "His real name is Michael and likes taco bell. He's a really Nice Guy and he has been friends with the band for years."

First released in 1994 as a single in Europe, this song imported the American Miami Bass sound that was popularized by groups like 2 Live Crew and Quad City DJs. And like the oeuvre of the 2 Live Crew, the song was shockingly explicit and caused a similar outrage that of course made it wildly popular far beyond its artistic merits.

This original version ran 4:45, but was cut down to 3:19 for radio play once the controversy started. With the explicit lyrics removed, the song was reduced to its groove and chorus, but fueled by media coverage, this was enough to send it to #1 on the UK charts in March 1995.

The subject of this song's profane content was actually raised in Parliament, when on June 15, 1995, the MP for Worcester Peter Luff asked:

Will my right hon. Friend find time for an early debate on the availability of pornographic material to children? I hope that he has had the opportunity to study the correspondence that I delivered to his office yesterday. It is correspondence that I have had with my constituent, Mr. Wilde, about the purchase by his 11-year-old daughter of a grossly obscene record which rejoices in the innocent name "(Don't Stop) Wiggle Wiggle" by the Outhere Brothers. Such filth suggests that the record industry is not policing its output effectively, and that there could be a need for further action by the Government.

Tony Newton MP replied for the Government: "I have indeed read the correspondence that my hon. Friend kindly gave me, and I fully understand his concern. He has written to my right hon. and noble Friend the Minister of State, Home Office, and I am sure that she will reply to him."

The press also reported that this song - and several others by the band - had come under fire from another MP, and that the Crown Prosecution Service was considering a prosecution under the Obscene Publications Act. (thanks, Alexander Baron - London, England)

The Outhere Brothers were fronted by two Chicago musicians: the rapper Keith Mayberry (also known as "Malik" or "Silk E") and producer Lamar "Hula" Mahone. The pair got some help from an Italian production team known as Aladino, and also from Craig Simpkins, an American producer who goes by "Azza K. Fingers." They collectively shared songwriter credits on this and other Outhere Brothers tracks, but Mayberry and Mahone were the only members who appeared in publicity materials and videos.

Just as there were dirty and clean releases of this song, there were different official videos made as well. The first video (the dirty one) showed the groups frontmen cavorting with various vixens in boot camp and wrestling scenarios. The second (clean) video was made up of old footage of dancers and cartoons.
